Is There A Picture Of The Enterprise Online?!

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here. Probably not. But just in case, check this out. I figure if anyone will be able to tell me what this image actually is and where it came from, it would be our readership. Follow the link in the e-mail below, and have at it:
Found this online at MovieTome. Is this the new Enterprise?

Looks like some kind of videogame.

    by rbatty024

I would have liked them to go more retro if this is their final product, but I doubt it is.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 6:53 a.m. CST

    crap

    by Olee Starstone

i can see where they're going with the retro look, but its not that great. Doesn't look too teaslistic to me... i miss the old models on lines...

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 6:53 a.m. CST

Could be from an upcoming video game too

    by xannibal

But if not, I still like it. I'm kind of picturing a space submarine (sturdy, functional).

Looks like the old Enterprise to me...

and the CGI in this concept just looks SciFi Channel worthy!

    Hurm...

    by Abin Sur

There have been renders of this quality coming out on the net since the advent of the internet - I've still got some of them. It may be the new Enterprise, but this can't be anything more than an early mock-up.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:11 a.m. CST

    by jimmy_neutron

I believe this is a render that Gabriel Koerner did some time ago, before the new Trek film was announced. He works for Eden FX and did CGI work on Superman Returns, Lost and Alias. His website is here: http://www.gabekoerner.com/fx/index.htm Given that he has done work on Lost, perhaps J.J. Abrams has brought him on board for the new Trek film?

    Transparent Nacelles

    by darquelyte

Does not = Flames on Optimus or Nipples on Batman. I think they look pretty sweet!

    My first, gut reaction...

    by ATARI

    I like!!!

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:13 a.m. CST

Looks like the work of Gabriel Koerner

    by flyingsparks

He's a fan and graphic designer but I don't think he's involved with ST XI. Here's a clip he made from the Intertron. It looks like the same ship to me. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGD6d921Ut4&feature=related

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:15 a.m. CST

Yeah, I think I've had this on my desktop for a year

    by Drath

Looks like the same one flyingsparks is talking about. It's good, don't get me wrong, and it sure as hell looks like what someone trying to copy the general texture of the Enterprise E would do to a new Enterprise design. But, I'm kind of expecting something much worse will be used in the final movie.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:18 a.m. CST

    flyingsparks - yep, that's Koerner

    by Sir Loin

Have to admit, his design is pretty sweet, it'd be great if they incorporated some (or all!) of his ideas. Just hope they don't change it TOO much...

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:20 a.m. CST

    You Know...

    by drew mcweeny

... I suspected it was Koerner. His various Enterprise interpretations have been awesome, but I'm not a big enough TREK fanboy to know for sure. I figured you guys would sniff it out in three minutes. <P>Thanks.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:24 a.m. CST

that's the biggest ... one of those i ever saw!

    by newc0253

that's a sweet pic, even if it turns out to be completely false.<p > put it this way, i wouldn't be unhappy if it turned out to be true. worse things could happen to star trek.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:39 a.m. CST

    Hmmm.

    by KentButabi

Its a mix of old, old and new. Its safe, but I'm not wow'd (though that is a very limited angle).

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:49 a.m. CST

    Fake

    by Surround Sound

There is not a ship that looks like that in any of the movies or shows...and it looks really bad to be the new Enterprise. The design is too Next Gen-ish and the saucer looks too small. Its fanboy I agree.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 7:52 a.m. CST

    I really don't think

    by cornponious

they would make enterprise with transparent nacelles. I just really don't...

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 8:14 a.m. CST

    What's Star Trek about?

    by Lord Nerd

    Is it cool?

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 8:22 a.m. CST

Why would they redesign the ship?

    by GregoryHarbin

I get recasting the actors, and writing a new story, but why change an iconic design? Just add more detail, don't make the nacelles clear. Yuck.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 8:26 a.m. CST

It's fanboy, yes, but not any fanboy, its Gabe Koerner's

    by Wonderboys

The guy is a pro, he works for Galactica, and others, and his designs are very cool, this enterprise included: http://www.scifi-meshes.com/forums/3d-wips/ 24059-reimagined-enterprise-further-progress.html

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 8:50 a.m. CST

    by Omar B

It looks close to the proposed re imagining of the 1701. They said it would retain the same lines but the surface would make it very apparent that it's separate pieces of metal welded/joined together ... kinda like an aircraft carrier I guess. Either way, the nacells look like the lighted ones they were going for later on in the series so I don't know how that fits in but the 1701 refit had light up nacells too. I'll say it looks cool as a model but it can't be the finished product.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 9:03 a.m. CST

Just saw the work of Gabe Koerner online...

    by Falcon5768

This was a picture of a "proposed" refit Enterprise Gabe did for the 2007 Ships of the Line book. He had since fleshed it out up till the point that he got pulled away for Speed Racer. 1) Gabe is NOT doing anything for Star Trek, he is not even a designed on the team. 2) Gabe IS doing Speed Racer, I told Harry this a few months ago but I guess it was not newsworthy enough for Harry to know who was working on Speed Racer.

they should do what they did in TOS

    by Prossor

as an homage just have 5 shots of the enterprise flying through space and have it be the space shot.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 4:08 p.m. CST

    Not the popular opinion, but...

    by maniacmedia

I think J.J. should start from scratch on the designs. If he wants to do something to pay homage to TOS Enterprise, fine. But he should have the option of doing something completely different if he so desires. That said, Gabe's work here is very nice. I especially like the "transparent nacelles".

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 4:26 p.m. CST

The new Enterprise should have a modern design, but...

    by rbatty024

with elements of 60's sci fi. It'll be hard to pull off but if they do that would be a perfect combination.

The link is down, but without even seeing

    by Grammaton Cleric Binks

the picture I can say it is irrelevant. If this is supposed to be the Star Trek prequel, then they need to have it look like the Enterprise as it appeared in TOS up through the motion picture. It's a little thing I like to call continuity.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 6:46 p.m. CST

    They should redesign it

    by I Dunno

They completly redesigned it from TOS to TMP. Sure, they said it was a refit but it was really a redesign like the Klingons were. They should do the same thing now. Seeing the same old ship would be boring.

  • Dec. 4, 2007, 8:55 p.m. CST

    They can't hide it forever

    by kafka07

since it's a very big space ship.

    StarShip Creator computer program

    by LeviDTinker

wasnt there a computer program a few years ago called <br> star trek:starship creator <br> where you could design your own starfleet ships.<br> i havent seen this supposed pic <br> but is there anychance this is just a hoax and not the real ship.<br> i mean honestly i think everything we have heard so far indicates this isnt a reboot of the franchise but a prequel. <br> especially after shatner getting the well kirk died in the 7th movie <br> excuse as to why shatner cant appear in this new movie. <br> and nimoys spock playing a big role in it.
