Finally a show that doesn't get wrapped up in its little secrets and surprises and delivers a fun action hour. Life....I liked and still watched but MY GOD thats episode where they spent 10 minutes on Prince Of Persia Montage was by far the lamest thing I've EVER seen on tv. Even worst then all the new Hero characters, like I was embarssed that I was even watching the show, each episode plays out like Law and Order CI, just not as good.

    by series7

I REALLY wanted to say that Reaper is the best new show but that show relies heavily on Tyler Labine being the funny voice of Kevin Smith and the only really constantly funny voice of the show. While in Chuck all of the characters get their funny on, and secrets are not the basis of getting you to watch the show ala Lost and Heroes. Plus its the most action packed show this side of 24. Bring on Terminator, any show with left over actors from Firefly automatically gets a boost up.

Good pacing, a rich set of characters, uses the geek stereotypes creatively and without overkill, good stories, good action, some really cool/funny moments, pop culture drops (Lo Pan!) etc. Just very good writing over all with good directing and editing. And of course, Adam Baldwin is fantastic here and the Hot Chick is surprisingly very good too. I'm sorry Harry Tang is gone though. McG: Thank you for Chuck. PS: Please do not screw up T4.

its good but after that whole Prince of Persia debacle there is no coming back from a god awful scene in a show after that. Plus its like CSI and Law and Order, just that the guy is trying to find out who put him in jail. Its like Dirty Sexy money is just like every show about rich spoiled people who do evil things just he is trying to find out who killed his dad. I like the british actor they use in this NBC series better then the other British actors they've have in their other series though. NBC and their brits, its like Pokemon gotta catch em' all. Just like the Coens using the girl from Trainspotting when they could have used... pretty much anyone for that wasted role.

Hooray for Life, still unsure about Chuck

    by dirkd13"

As long as the writers keep Charlie Crews as a seriously weird Zen-ish ladies man then all is good, but he's mellowed out a little recently and I don't like that. Sarah Shahi is the sexiest woman on TV, and the supporting cast is top notch too so I hope this show can only get stronger.Chuck is still just kind of floating along, and I don't get all the raves over it's action bits, because there really doesn't seem to be much, and when there is it's horribly shot and edited. The Pilot, Chuck vs The Tango and Chuck vs The Sizzling Shrimp were all great episodes with fantastic action, but the other episodes have been take-it-or-leave-it. Losing C.S. Lee was a big mistake for the show, although if it means more Vincent Masuka comedy gold then I'm all for it.

Chuck is an amazing show, as is Journeyman

    by bigmick

Someone said it up above that Chuck is just kind of floating along, I don't really understand what that means since Chuck is more of an episodic show instead of the usual soap opera type of thing like every other show is. THere's nothing to float along too, Chuck is the intersect and they just go on missions of varying degrees. And frankly with most of the crap that's been on TV this fall, Chuck and Journeyman are easily the only reasons why I keep my TV around. I am so determined to learn why Dan Vasser is travelling back in time. NBC seriously needs to take their heads out of their collective ass and realize a good thing when they got it, b/c if they think that Heroes is still going to be their saving grace for the network than guess again. These 2 shows are going to be the highlights of the year (well if Journeyman actually gets picked up).

So...because of one scene, which I admit was incredibly lame, you'e ready to give up on a show?

Used to be, people could forgive a good show a bad scene or two. It USED to be that, only after episode after episode of utter shite that a show would be talked about so badly, and yet you folks are ready to give up on one of the best mysteries after one?

Wow, that's even sadder than people who don't watch a show shouting for its cancellation.

Yes, you're right. That was a total misfire but it's also part of the ONLY episode in this series so far that I've felt let down. Did you see "The Fallen Woman" or the even better "Farthingale"? Both of those episodes were fantastic.Luckily, tv series don't get cancelled on the strength of one episode. Whilst "Civil War" let me down (hopefully the writer won't be invited back after the strike), every other episode has been brilliant and the ongoing story arc is shaping up to be quite engrossing.I agree with you about Vincent from Law & Order. I think I was so upset by that scene was because I felt that this was a really strong show, a more mature adult show. I still watch it and will watch it, it was the cloest thing I can get to Dexter without showtime, and Law and Order is getting a little taxing. Just that scene was SOO god awful bad that I was like man I really need to calm down on watching too much TV. It just seemed like such a lame attempt to get teenagers interested in this show. When I would rather they make this show a little darker because it does have the 10 spot. And I really like the Actor I think he is the best british import since House, I even liked him in Dreamcatcher. Its just one of those things that bugged me so bad. Like that episode was really good and then that happened and it all just feel apart. Just bothered me, made me think maybe Micheal Bay is secertly financing the show trying to see if there hope for him doing a Prince of Persia movie, i don't know. You got to admit though it has to be one of the lamest things you've ever seen on TV. Plus no one was agreeing or disagreeing with me, so I needed to know if other people noticed it as well.

I was gettin' pert near tired of posting Chuck love letters in Journeyman & Heroes TB's. Kudos NBC for having the foresight and (gulp) I totally agree on Journeyman. It's a one trick pony and when the big reveal comes (if it comes, hello LOST?) what's left. Chuck, on the other hand, has so many places it can go and unlike Journeyman, it doesn't take itself too seriously. Oh, and Heroes, last night, sucked. And I'm a fan of that show.

I fucking LOVE this show. Not only is my man Zachary Levi a real bonafied "Nerd", he does it with style each and every week, successfully showing what people that are into Video games and pop culture are REALLY like.

It's the one show that melds the action elements of shows like Alias and 24 and mixes it with just the right level of comedy.. never overkill.

    by garbageman33

I enjoy the show, but it grinds to a halt whenever Morgan shows up. I have no problem with an annoying best friend character. But Morgan, or rather the "actor" who plays him, gives you new inkling why Chuck would ever hang out with him. It's a tough role, but someone like Seth Green is really good at it. Or Bobby Cannavale in Station Agent. I'm not saying they should play Morgan. I'm just saying that's how you do annoying and endearing at the same time.

Chuck really has elements of all three, comedy, drama, and action. It can go from totally serious one moment to a 30 second slow-mo shot of an obese man "Duke-Sliding" over tables and sprinting T-1000 style.
Not to totally kiss the show's ass (too late), but it really is an uplifting and fun hour of television(what else is the point of watching TV?).
The action elements are solid, people get shot and die on a regular basis, the comedy can be laugh out loud funny (This weeks "you're ugly" line comes to mind), and the drama is totally passable.

I think if the majority of us were in Chuck's shoes with a head full of government secrets and a beyond beautiful bodyguard, the situation would be pretty similar.. just with a whole lot more masturbation.

Yeah I agree, I don't understand why this site hasn't been all about Chuck. Its pretty much tailor made for people like us. I know there are a lot more serious geeks that like there TV serious like Heroes and 24. But Chuck was totally made with the people who use this site in mind. I mean he has an Oldboy poster in his room. Which I was kind of surprised because of that whole jibber jabber about the V Tech thing and Oldboy. Its not like they are trying to make him seem like a geek ala Dawsons Creek with a poster of JAWS in his room. His looks and acts like a normal geek, not all geeks are pimply faced boners. Also the guy who plays Morgan is totally stealing Justin Longs shitck as a nervous loser friend. The thing that makse Reaper seem better is because his loser friend is a lot funnier then Morgan thats probably why people don't like Morgan as much. But Chuck is a better show, Reaper always get boring towards the end Chuck keeps up the suspense.

    Series7 - Back at ya'

    by vonfolger

Yeah, I'm surprised AICN hasn't been covering CHUCK a bit more. After the interviews I've read with Zachary Levi who plays Chuck I've pretty much come to the conclusion he brings a lot of himself to the role, which is why the show works. You can't have a person who loathes pop-culture and video games playing someone who loves them, it just wouldn't work.
But, I'm elated it got a full season pickup. "Life" is damn good too, and I normally steer away from typical "Cop Dramas".
Chuck got it right with the inclusion of a very good supporting cast. Chuck's sister has a genuine warmth toward him, and an overprotective attitude that most big sister's really have. Even bit players like "Captain Awesome" are well written and fun. Eventually "Awesome" will become an agent... you'll see.

Chuck has always been fun, but in the last 2 or 3 episodes has really hit it's stride. It's like the show finally figured out what it's supposed to be, and now not only is it entertaining with great characters, but it's actually ENGAGING as well.

As for Life, I'm biased as I'll watch anything with Damien Lewis in it, but this is a fantastic show. Awesome premise, spot-on acting and characterisation. Although the Prince Of Persia scene was a MAJOR misstep, compare that to the scene of Sarah Shahi downing the vodka - one of the ballsiest moments I've seen in recent TV. Oh yeah, and CHRISTINA HENDRICKS is in this show!!!!

Now just get Journeyman a full season and The Office back on the air and I'm a happy TV guy!

    Oh, and about Reaper...

    by mymonkeysnameisjennifer

I like the show, I really do, but does anyone think it's gotten a little formulaic since the pilot. I like the idea, and the cast are great, but in hindsight I honestly couldn't tell you which episode was which week-to-week.

re: DirkD13 and skoobyx (and Chuck)

    by _maltheus_

Agreed on Dexter. I wasn't expecting the second season to be good after that great book-based first season, but it's easily Sopranos quality for me. Every time I sit down to watch an episode, there's not a doubt in my mind that the next hour will be a great one. I can't say that for certain about any other show (although Pushing Daisies is close). I rate it as the best show on TV right now.
As for Chuck, it's light, yes, but it's a quality show through and through. It has a very professional feel to it and they're really good with the pacing. Back in the pre-air days, I was saying to can Chuck and that Reaper was the best of the two (since they're so similar). I still watch Reaper, but it's nowhere near as good as Chuck, IMO. The problem I think some people have with Chuck is that it's hard to define. Is it and action/spy show or a comedy? It's neither. It's what it is. Kind of reminds me of Buffy in that sense. A mix of genres that produces a new flavor. So I'm glad they kept it. I'd be far happier though, if they'd just keep the entire Monday night block in tact.

They need to retool "Bionic" for Katee...

    by expert_40

... because we know this is the last year for "Galactica." The other chick is hot if you like chicks who look 16 and have the emotional resonance of a dish towel. And her sister SUCKS!!!But Katee is beautiful in an unconventional way. Yeah, she's a tomboy you believe can kick a guy's ass, but she also maintains her girlness, too. And most of all... she can emote, she can ACT, and she doesn't come with a shitty-acting kid sister. This is what they need to do. Jamie Sommers goes crazy and kills the whole bionic team and Miggy Ferrer calls in Sarah, who's been fixed by taking a cure, to take Jamie out. Then the next season is a show with Sarah helping the helpless... kind of like our dearly departed Angel. In fact, she can set up shop in Chicago (middle of the country so she can travel easy) and she can be the go-to girl for not only the government, but she has a team around her who look for people who need help.

    Oh, and Chuck...

    by expert_40

... is the fucking BALLS!!!I haven't watched a show this fun since Buffy and Angel at their zanniest. Remember the puppet episode of Angel? That's the kind of feeling you get from watching Chuck, but you get it all the time. The writing, especially Adam's lines, seem like the best stuff of Noxon and Whedon. The blonde is the most beautiful woman in primetime bar none, and what a coup it would be if they bring in Rachel Bilson full-time. Also, the sister is hot, too. And Captain Awesome... IS Awesome. The best friend Morgan mostly sucks, but even he has his moments.

    bionic

    by slkboxrman

bionic woman is getting better with each episode.....jamie is finally gettin used to her job,,, things are gettin easier.. i love how in the recent episode she was on the phone with the cia dude...lost her target, chased him down, kicked his car so hard it crashed...she calmly goes over , checks his pulse, grabs the bag she wanted and walked away, continuing her conversation..and i havent heard peep about them not renewing it.. and no peep is good peep ..lol...just cuz journeyman and bionic havent been announced yet dont mean that theyre not going to get full seasons.... and from what rumors are saying, the strike should be over soon....good news for all ..... comparing adam baldwins lines in chuck to the "best stuff of whedon" is proof that u were dropped on your head as a baby... if all the chuck fans would just admit , u only watch chuck for the blonde and the brunette it would make more sense than saying its a good show ....please....do u actually watch the show ?

... suck my nuts, beeyotch. The fact that you enjoy the currently craptastic "Bionic Women" with a thoroughly unconvincing, badly-acted lead tell me that you take it up the ass and like it, even without the reach-around.Chuck OWNS Bionic. And yes, it is so off-the-wall funny with hilarious pop culture references that I weekly have to check imdb.com to see if Joss or Marti wrote the new episode.Your Honor, I stand before you with dry ball, because slkboxrman refuses to suck them.

    Good news for Dick Winters

    by big jim

and for the brother of George Luz. I enjoy both shows so I guess it's good news for me too.I too had a bit of a problem with the Prince of Persia scene. The montage reminded me of the end of Grandma's Boy. Having to relive that fetid turd was bad enough. But what really bothered me was why they had to play the game from level 1. Wasn't that the kid's xbox they were playing on? Doesn't Prince of Persia have a "save game" feature so if one would need to play, say, level 10, one could just start at the beginning of that level? I found it hard to believe that the kid, in order to access the information hidden on the game, would, every time, play the game all the way through from the first level through the tenth. I just didn't buy it.

Life Lives, Chuck Rules, Give it up Journeyman fans

    by harrysnemesis

Life is not just a csi/cop serial genre show. If you haven't been watching it, you don't know what you're missing. Life isn't anything so daring or original, but the thing that makes Life great is the main character, Charlie Cruz. He is authority, but at the same time goes against the system. He's not out to enforce the law necessarily, but justice. His dialogue is out of this world not just in what he says but in the way he interacts with the other characters within the show. It's a great character. The rest of the supporting cast is just ok (unlike chuck which has a fantastic ensemble cast) -- nothing wrong with them, just don't draw you in like in Chuck.

I agree with what someone else said about Chuck in that the first few episodes were not all that... but it has gotten better each show and has grown from a good show to a must see. There aren't many shows on tv you can really say just about every cast member is extremely well cast/acted -- this is one of them where you can. The only downside to chuck are the somewhat convoluted plots and story archs (like the drawn out love story).

Journeyman is a really good show. It is well acted and well written... but it is not going to make it, so you might as well watch the last few shows and give up -- even if NBC ordered a full season, the show won't get another -- it just hasn't caught on with the general public and more than likely isn't going to no matter how long it's given. As I said in another talkback, despite it being well written and acted, the characters just don't draw you in and aren't as charismatic (as for example in Chuck). While I like the plots and storylines, I think the time travel aspect detracts from the story flow for the average viewer who isn't watching anymore. To compare it to Quantum Leap as someone else did, in that show he was in the same time the whole show length, he wasn't jumping back and forth constantly, so there was a better 'flow' in the way the show presented. I think that and the lack of charisma of the characters is what killed it with the general audiences. I'm not saying that's the way it should be, just the way it is. If it were up to me it would get a full season and an order for next -- but it isn't up to me.
