Check out the trailer for Stephen Chow's sci-fi adventure CJ7!!!

Published at:  Nov 26, 2007 2:39:26 AM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Now this is cool. Stephen Chow has been a bit quiet after the brilliant KUNG FU HUSTLE, but now he's exploded back with the awesome trailer for a flick called CJ7. It's possible this has been out there for a while, but I haven't heard of it hitting until this morning and the time stamp on the yahoo site hosting the trailer is today, so I'll go out on a limb and say it's pretty new.

And it's pretty rad, even if it isn't, so I'm covered.

    by live.

It has finally happened. I have achieved the coveted FIRST! Let this be a lesson and inspiration for others. You too can achieve the amazing FIRST! one day. Keep your eye on the prize. Keep striving toward your goal - it will happen!
I would like to thank all of the little people who have encouraged me along the way, and who I had to step on to make it here. I'm not sure that I can associate with you non-FIRST!ers anymore, but I shall remember you fondly in my memoirs.

Hope the movie's better. I've been a fan of Chow Sing Chi since I caught GOD OF COOKERY at Sydney's Chinatown Cinema.

Well done my friend, you are the talkbacker most admired by fellow talkbackers. I only hope that one day I find enough time to sit at my computer staring at the homepage of AICN, patiently refreshing it every 2 minutes in the hope of not only finding a new news story, but also completely skipping the content of it to simply put "First" as the headline for the first post of talkback. In fact, I even went as far as retiring my old talkback handle in the hope of one day replicating the thrill that I got those four times I managed to attain the coveted title of "First". One day I also hope to get a girlfriend and maybe even have some of that sex stuff I keep hearing about, but for the moment I just dream of being you.

Still not convinced it's much more than a cute homage flick with passable CGI. More trailers please.

But Chow is a genius. Just look at how the characters talk to each other in his movies. Very real, totally funny. Either that, or he has a brilliant person writing his subtitles.

    Hustle

    by ye olde shiza

If Stephen's reading this ... I'd like to thank you for the opening scene to Hustle. It was awesome, and while the rest of the film was pretty funny, I don't think it every achieved the same style and grace as that first five minutes. Here's to hoping you do something miraculous in the new one as well.

Weak trailer, but Chow is indeed a damn genius

    by spyguy

KUNG FU HUSTLE was so frickin' brilliant that I had to check out SHAOLIN SOCCER which was also all kinds of brilliant. I need to see another trailer with more than a kid shrieking and the theme from 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY playing, but any flick by Chow is officially on my personal radar screen.

    Friggin WEAK ASS trailer...

    by cinemajerk

Ok...Quint says he loves how Chows trailers show just enough but doesn't give anything away. HUH?????!!!

This trailer gives something away all right. It gives away the fact that this movie will SUCK major ass.

Come on. It blows with a capitol B.

And the effects look downright retarded.

I liked PARTS of Kung Fu Hustle. But I don't think Chow is the genius everyone makes him out to be. His overuse of digital effects cheapen his comedy. IMHO.

    Anyway...

Kung Fu Hustle was a raging good time. Kung Pow was also excellent, of course, but give Mr. Chow some respect. He deserves it for his ingenuity. And this statement is coming from someone who will enjoyed Kung Pow 2: Tongue of Fury.

    This Ain't The American Marketing

    by harry weinstein

This is Columbia Pictures' trailer for it. For the US Sony Classics will likely throw most of the marketing materials out and start from scratch. Unlike with KUNG FU HUSTLE where they threw out a great Columbia Pictures marketing campaign in favor of a really shitty one produced by Sony Classics, that's probably a good idea. The voice-over is very weak - but take it away and the trailer becomes a lot better, if no more enlightening. I like not knowing exactly what the hell is going on here. I see no point in complaining about the special effects. I'd rather see imperfect-but-decent special effects in a good movie than state-of-the-art effects in something unwatchable like TRANSFORMERS, the new shit yardstick by which all shit films are to be measured in terms of their shittiness. But yeah, this Asian-market trailer dropped on Thanksgiving Day - not exactly the most rapid reporting there, fellas. I actually expect a title change for the US - Chrysler will probably have something to say about calling it CJ7. And does Sony Classics really want people to think it's a movie about a Jeep? At least it's not called WINDSTAR or GRAND CHEROKEE. I don't even know how they get CJ7 from the previous YANGTZE RIVER 7 title. Fuck it, it's new Stephen Chow. Now where's the coverage of the OTHER movie he's producing besides DRAGON BALL - SHAOLIN GIRL, a lacrosse-themed Japanese film that's supposedly set in the "universe" established in SHAOLIN SOCCER and KUNG FU HUSTLE. Trailer here: http://tinyurl.com/34bl9l
