Bruce Wayne is John Connor!!!

Hey folk Harry here. Just got off the phone with an extremely trusted source who has never been wrong before. he revealed exclusively to AICN that in the upcoming McG reboot, TERMINATOR SALVATION: The Future Begins, that they have cast CHRISTIAN BALE as none other than JOHN CONNOR. you folks know what that means... THIS IS GOING TO KICK ASS!!!

Hey folks, Harry here again... The above was posted by AICN's Behind-The-Scenes God, RoRo - as Time-Warner knocked out my internet this morning in a widespread pre-emptive strike to attempt to silence the news that Bruce Wayne was John Connor... But I want y'all to think about this for a second. McG has done more than just CHARLIE'S ANGELS - his film WE ARE MARSHALL was a very solid and tonally realistic film. Personally - I love what McG did with CHARLIE'S ANGELS - it was fun, kinetic and exactly what that version of CHARLIE'S ANGELS should be. Then there's the fact that he cast the T-1000 in WE ARE MARSHALL - which means, probably, he's a fan of T2 - or just has the coolness to just recognize that Robert Patrick is the shit. Either way - He's managed to cast Christian Bale in TERMINATOR SALVATION - and that's pretty huge. We know Bale takes his shit seriously. And if you saw 3:10 TO YUMA... just imagine him coming out of his mountain and beginning the process of taking out SKYNET. With Bale as Connor - that means that we have a great chance that McG is pulling a chair up and will deliver. It all depends on that script... it is obvious we're dealing now with an adult, GREAT MILITARY LEADER storyline ... How he got the remnants of civilization together, trained them, armed them and began a guerilla war that eventually, we hope, brings down SKYNET. I for one am anxious as hell to see this done right. Let's hope.

    McG + Bale =

    by Jeroen

The stranget actor/director combo since the diabolical Schumacher/Hopkins/Rock triangle of Bad Company. Who'll win out in this confrontation? I guess Bale is going to be lobbying to get McG replaced, thus saving the franchise and notching up another classic role. Yay!

    Bale must have been stoned...

    by Korrom

to sign on to a project that has every chance to suck unwiped ass. On the other hand, this might mean that there is a faint hope that the TERMINATOR BEGINS (again) will not end up to be the steaming pile of buffalo shit that McG almost guarantees for.

Who thinks this is a load of crap. There's NO WAY Bale would agree to star in the THIRD sequel of a franchise. Batman Begins was a reboot, so I don't consider that a sequel to the 90's Batman movies. I call this guy's bluff. Bale is NOT going to be John Connor. Waaaay too good to be true.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:13 p.m. CST

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:13 p.m. CST

I wasn't expecting that. Why would he want to work with McG?

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:15 p.m. CST

    So what?

    by MaxCalifornia.

You could resurrect Laurence Olivier, Marlon Brando, and James Dean and stick them in 'T4' but its still a movie directed by McG, and its still a Terminator movie without Ahnuld. This seems like such an obvious fanboy baiting move, you can just picture a studio exec saying "Hey, let's cast Christian Bale, all the nerds like him, right? Then they'll all be behind this film!". And sadly, it seems to have worked. Maybe next they'll put Simon Pegg in it and it'll be the AICN movie of the year.

    Christian Bale as Broody McDourface

...for sniffing out decent projects versus stinkers. Therefore, I call bullshit on this as well. Either that, or Bale has lost his sense of smell.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:19 p.m. CST

    Exactly what they needed

    by Turd Furgeson

This means there is no way Arnold will be in the movie, no big stars as the Terminator, no big stars as supporting characters except for Claire Daines (maybe).. They need a big name for an Iconic character... The character of John Connor has been with us for 25 years now and I can't be more pleased to have it portrayed the way it deserves to be portrayed, by a strong MAN... Not whinny ass douche from T2, and not scrawny ass Nick Stahl (although I like his acting but not right for T3)! Bale can power through ANY bad director, he's that talented.. This is truly COOL news.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:20 p.m. CST

Holy shit! IF this is real news. I'M a HAPPY.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:21 p.m. CST

    Christian Bale?

    by zooch

Why would Bale sign on for this crap? Might be cool if they get Arnold, Michael Biehn, Linda Hamilton, and Robert Patrick all to come back.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:22 p.m. CST

bale with a mullet would make a great solid snake. Which is ironic because Mike Biehn was the SNAKE character model for one of the old METAL GEAR cartridge/box designs...

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:23 p.m. CST

    That WILL be awesome, BUT...

    by fractureJonze

I wish they would have had Micheal Biehn playing John Connor, and Edward Furlong playing Kyle Reese. That would have been badass! Or not.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:24 p.m. CST

    what does this mean for...?

    by Grendy

The Sarah Conner Chronicles? It's supposed to air with the woman who played Gorgo from 300 as Sarah Connor. On tv this spring or some crap. I like parts (especially the downer ending) of T3, but that too-long chase scene was just lame in that movie. Not gonna top the Semi coming over the overpass in T2. Not gonna do it.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:25 p.m. CST

    But...but..but it's McG...

    by Ayii

Bale kicks ass, but McG? The two Charlie's Angels films were terrible. But maybe if the script is great he can deliver.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:27 p.m. CST

so at the end of T4

is john connor going to send some Biehn look-alike back in time? who would that be? Biehn's too old and rough now to pull off his 80's self by a long shot. Also- how the hell does the terminator series fit in to the universe...the chronicles of mom and young john's hijinx with other terminators....yet in 3 there is no mention of any adventures or problems since T2.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:32 p.m. CST

    No ARNOLD? Are you nuts!

    by ABking

Just because BALE is in doesn't mean Arnie is out..yet! Imagine Arnie as a soldier along with BALE in the future wars. Could be a great new trilogy. Also, I think T4, T5 and T6 should all have new filmmakers with each McG for T4, Verhoeven for T5 and McTiernan for T6.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:34 p.m. CST

    you know what?

    by Datascream

I think I'm ready to pull for this movie. Maybe..JUST maybe, McG will surprise us. Maybe this will be the film where he actually TRIES to make a great film. This casting certainly is off to a great start. I'll be keeping my eyes on this for sure.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:36 p.m. CST

What if in a fit of rage...

    by poeticwarriorII

Bale lisps on the terminator and short circuits the poor thing. Boy, that would make for a really short movie although quite funny!

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:37 p.m. CST

    the terminator bodies

...the flesh of the terminators have to be based off of (or hell- cloned) off of some model. it would be cool if ARNIE was a soldier of connor's, and is one of the few that are captured (alive or dead) intact enough for skynet to use as a template. Cloning would also explain how the arnie-terminators would look younger than ARNIE if he were to appear as a soldier in this film today. skynet has the technology to advance the growth of the host/flesh/clone to whatever they want. The whole original point of the fleshed robots was infiltration, after all.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:38 p.m. CST

Who cares. its still MCG and no arnold....

    by coltrautman

jeez, are some people here soo easy to please?? its still MCG the guy who directed charlies angels and No Arnod schwarzenegger who IS the terminator. and nw they get christian bale that all the ids love oooh ahhh now we love it... this movie will be a disaster..

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:39 p.m. CST

    holy shit

that's a good idea i just had. they never really explained or went too deep into the flesh/over metal thing other than to say that the machines could not travel through time without being encased in flesh- a law which was pretty much busted when they sent back the liquid terminator and the terminatrix.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:40 p.m. CST

    by Gil Brooks

According to the original T2 script, there are only 10 of each "look", hence the "Model 101", when Arnold describes himself. So, there are 10 of "Model 102" "103", etc., each with a different look, both male and female.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:41 p.m. CST

    Highly Unlikely

    by thedarklinglord

I wouldn't let McG shoot me taking a dump, okay? And Christian Bale actually has something to lose by trusting that fuckwad with his career. I just can't see Bale jumping on board what's sure to be a colossal shitstorm of wasted time, money, and potential. Unless he's secretly a HUGE Terminator fan and just can't resist the chance to be in a movie - even one destined to suck massive amounts of ass - I can't honestly picture him saying, "Another movie in the dead horse franchise of Terminator? Directed by McG? Oh, fuck yeah! I'm in, baby!"

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:41 p.m. CST

    If this is true,

    by dr_buggerlugs

then either this script is damn good or McG can talk a good game. Bale seems a little too good for this project but in the absence of Arnie, the franchise needs a strong John Conner to hang on to and if it's true then I'm there.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:43 p.m. CST

    Doubt it very much

i seriously can't see bale going ANYWHERE near this film!

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:44 p.m. CST

if they would bother to explain the why's and how's of fleshing a terminator, they may as well say that captured or killed people ( a certain few important or good physical specimens) were used to clone the flesh or provide the template for each of those models. I mean how does an evil machine just put meat on a fucking robot?

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:45 p.m. CST

    by Turd Furgeson

yeah that would be great, if it we're still 1984.. Have you seen Arnold lately? He looks like the Terminators grandfather... Because of his heart, he can't work out anymore.... His body without a shirt on probably looks like deflated fat bastard from Austin Powers 3.. No Way Arnold is going to be in this.. We're not talking about Professor X and Magneto playing themselves 15 years ago, we're talking about a 50 something old guy needing to look like he did 25 years ago and shirtless.. Not going to happen.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:45 p.m. CST

They should have Micheal Biehn in it.

    by fractureJonze

    As himself.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:47 p.m. CST

    by Pound Sand

Still, seems like McG (sigh) is aiming a little high.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:47 p.m. CST

    by ABking

Why do some of you guys think Arnie is not involved? Until we read that Governor Schwarzenegger has turned down the film, then there is a chance McG and the producers are smart enough to hold on to the one person that fans would line up around the world to see return in his iconic role. Besides KING CONAN, Arnie can play the older BAD ASS soldier that his T-800 model is based on in the sequels. Arnie as a kick ass/ take no names bad ass is where the story should go. But I would still love to see Arnie play a evil killer robot in T4!

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:47 p.m. CST

    Seriously though...

    by fractureJonze

They could have Biehn playing Kyle Reese with that same de-ageing crap they pulled in X-Men 3.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:47 p.m. CST

    I can't believe

    by Harold The Great

I'm the only one who doesn't hate Charlie's Angels. I'm a harsh critic, but for what they were, they were great. Granted, I was drunk with a bunch of friends when we rented the two movies, but it had hot girls, Tim Curry, Bill Murray, flying Demmi Moore (WTF?), Demmi Moore maiming Bruce Willis, good music and truly insane action sequences. The exact same tone and balls to the wall insanity that most people are missing from comic book movies. I think it depends on your expectations and state of mind when you watch it. (And I'm biased when it comes to McG for Supernatural. Best show nobody watches) Great casting, may not suck balls.

McG = meh Christian Bale = awesome McG + CB = DOES NOT COMPUTE!!!

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:49 p.m. CST

    why bother?

    by systemsbroom

the terminator series is grounded in a very 1980s conception of what a plausible future would be. Ask yourself: does it really make sense from our current perspective that an advanced, hostile networked AI would attack humanity by sending humanoid robots back in time? Instead of a bioengineered plague, a nanobot gray swarm, or really any sort of threat stemming from the technological trends at play now? Robots were cool in the 1980s; robot-monster threats are laughable now the same way that giant-atomic-insect threats have been laughable for decades. Leave the past behind.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:51 p.m. CST

    i'm just sayin'

have modern arnold in it now, as a grizzled old soldier of connor's, like a no.2 man or something. they don't even have to build his character- just establish it early on. then it's more tragic when old arnie gets killed/taken and is used to create (the younger- because it's lab grown meat) arnie terminator(s). They wouldn't even have to show any in action, just at the end or near the end of the flick, show cyberdine pressing out the first arnie-terminator...which could easily be done with effects of any sort today....setting up terminator one without having old arnie even have much screen time.

Let this please be a fake story

    by IAmLegolas

I'm a huge fan of Christian Bale, long before BATMAN BEGINS, and I don't need to see his good name sullied by a f*cking Terminator sequel to a sequel of a sequel... that's far removed from anybody that worked on it at the creative level since the beginning (i.e. James Cameron, Stan Winston, etc.). At this point Christian Bale doesn't GOTTA EAT, he's probably sitting pretty well financially. HE DOESN'T NEED TO WORK FOR F*CKING McG, THAT A$$CLOWN!!!!

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 3:54 p.m. CST

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 4 p.m. CST

    how the hell---

does anyone in the future with limited means, incapacitate and reprogram a terminator anyway? I mean, you pretty much have to DESTROY one to get it to keep from killing you....much less, have one so intact that you can send it back in time for T2 and haveit still look like arnie completely fleshed....does terminator flesh heal after a while? My only guess is John connor and crew have some electromagnetic pulse weapon that they must have only been able to use once in limited range...or else they'd have taken out skynet.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 4:02 p.m. CST

OH, btw, CB can pick a script, so unless any of you have actually seen and read the script, or even the fleshed out story line for that matter, I think I'll give Mr. Bale the benefit of the doubt. ...who builds the factories and the machines that build the terminators anyway? at the end of T3, the world just got nuked. i could guess you could say that the survivors were enslaved to build things for skynet like the jews and the egyptians, but enslaved by what? in T3 all skynet was was the internet and a few military prototype hover gun things. that's where the story falls apart. how are they going to patch that gaping hole?

Right, because Equilibrium and Reign of Fire were so good. Bale's made some mistakes before -- and I'm hoping this isn't one of them. (And would you people shut up about T3? It wasn't great or anything, but it was FUN.)

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 4:42 p.m. CST

Why the fuck would Bale sign on to this?!

    by judge dredds fresh undies

I LOVE Christian Bale, even his blockbuster roles are full of passion and I don't believe he ever does things just for the paycheck so I am incredibly shocked by this. Either he knows something we don't or he is getting ridiculous amount of money for this role. It's irritating as Bales involvement makes interested in the film again but I really do not want to watch a terminator film which doesn't involve Schwarzenegger.

  • Nov. 21, 2007, 4:48 p.m. CST

I know Aliens (speaking circumspectly of James Cameron)took the lone Alien idea and changed it successfully into a whole mess of Aliens, but another post-apocalyptic wasteland setting seems 80's sci-fi lame, and an army of metal-skeleton robots doesn't seem that cool to me. Losing the modern-day setting will be bad.

-but 'being' the terminator is 'half right'. well, i imagine someone first designed the terminator. why design it skeletal and humanoid if every single one wasn't destined to be fleshed out for time travel or stealth work? you can't tell me bipedal gun holding units was the best thing skynet could come up with. Maybe Bale is the evil prick responsible for the whole thing. Creator of skynet or at least designer of something. Assumedly, the whole thing couldn't just come to consciousness on it's own, it had to be programmed to awaken like a virus. That would be a really crummy plot device though, and waste of Bale.

    time travel...sorry ME again.

what were the time travel rules set up in the series? They could only go as far back as cyberdine existed? or the machine was made..or what? Time travel would be a more powerful weapon than just sending back an assassin could accomplish. but you can't go back to just destroy mankind- because then there's no machines or cyberdine. And if you can't find your enemy (JC), you go back to when they were weak and in the open (T2), or before they were born(1)...when you think about it, skynet trying to kill john connor throughout his life is what makes him strong enough to fight the resistance in the first place. So skynet's priority should have been to never go back in time and fuck with the connor family. Man, you could argue time travel for years :)

YES! YES! This is the best fucking news I've ever heard about when it comes to the Terminator series! Only one man can really bring the Terminator series back to life, and CHRISTIAN BALE is that man! He has done it for the BATMAN series, and will now do it for the Terminator series! He simply is JOHN CONNER!

his part in bringing us Chuck. It's not nearly in the same league in technical excellence as say, 'Mad Men' but I really enjoy and look forward to watching Chuck every week. And I'm not sure how it all came about but casting Bale is a positive sign. Now, if he manages to prevent turning T4 into a kinetic, high on flash, low on substance music video-ish feature he just might earn some respect around here.

Great news, I'm one of the few around here

    by SpencerTrilby

naive, stupid or just open-minded enough to expect some good things from this film. Charlie's Angels movies were mindless fun with boobs - a concept that some of you snobs accept when it's a Troma movie but reject when it's big budget... Sheeeesh... I respect those who don't enjoy the movie for what it is (mindless fun, remember?) but calling him a hack... First, he's not Brett Ratner (Red Dragon, X-men 3, Rush Hour: a guy who indiscriminately fucks up projects whether the source material is shit or gold) and second it's not as if it raped anyone's childhood, because the original show was shit anyway. One of the few adaptations that IMPROVED upon the source material. <p> Besides, We are marshals sounds, from what I gathered, like a solid little film, and McG (which is a stupid name, I give you that ) said while promoting it that he wanted more serious material from now on. <p> And don't forget that the shitty humor in T3 was an attempt from John Mostow to get in touch with the doubters with some kind of laid-back atmosphere, before unleashing hell in the third act and taking both doubters and fans by surprise. I cringed at the gay glasses or talk to the hand line like many of you, but you gotta admit that it was a sly move from Mostow, as he knew that the expectations were low because of Arnie's lame track record for the past 10 years or so. Mostow's angle was tricky but he pulled it off. And T2 had also shitty humor anyway.

So if McG wants it serious, with Serious-Bale onboard

I am not familiar with "McG" so I can't really comment in that regard, but I do know Christian Bale is awesome in every role he takes, from Prestige magician to Batman, to POW. If he was interested enough in this John Connor part, I know he is going to bring some power to the role. Imagine Bale in the future commanding an army of resistance fighters and tearing shit up. Maybe Bale as Connor gradually becomes more terminator-like as he gets injured in his war against the machines and literally replaces pieces of himself at the cost of his humanity. Skynet sees how well he destroys machines and decides to copy his behavior/technology etc. and the terminators are born. I can easily see the 800 series being the bigger, beefier successor to the original T600 line which is based, you guessed it, on cyberntetic John Connor. However, if this movie isn't Apocalypse Now meets Star Wars meets Braveheart then Stinky McPoo to the "G" it will be.

It's a trilogy, right? with John Connor as the mentor character, which means someone else is the main character and somewhere along the lines John will die (either literarly or metaphorically, but my guess is on literarly).<br> <br> The most logic choice for a main character if you look at the established mythology would be Kyle Reese, so the last of the three movies would end with him going back in time.<br> <br> Does the casting of Christian Bale and the confusion about the part he'll play suggest Skynet will replace John Connor at some point by a Terminator?

I can see how boy Furlong could grow up into adult Christian Bale. That sort of makes sense. But Ah-nuld MUST be in this is the expectation of the public...if he is not on the movie poster in some way, people will see this movie as second rate and missing its star, kind of like Predator 2. It doesnt even need to be a big scene...a shot of soldier Ah-nuld running into battle and being taken away by the long as he is on the poster.

    THE Terminator Theme

    by Seph_J

Brad Fiedel's Terminator Theme must be used in the opening credits, I agree. That was one of the few issues I had with T3. They made up for it though, at the end of the movie. The score track 'Radio' is absolutely gorgeous, and propells the whole franchise to another emotional level. Also, if you stick through the end credits you will hear a pretty hardcore version of the original theme - just a shame it wasn't at the start, like the T2 opening credits. <P> In my mind, T3 was indeed far better than anyone had any right to expect... Arnie on the crane truck smashing into buildings, the coffin shoot-out, (I still maintain that the little model of Arnie I own where he is holding the coffin on his shoulder is far more iconic than anything from T1 or T2) and in particular the final 30 minutes were all awesome stuff. The ending was absolutely the ending I would have written, if anyone had asked me. McG doesn't excite me... nor repell me. Bale however does ground the project nicely, and makes it something I am very hopeful for. <p> And come on guys... Jonathan Mostow comimg back wouldn't be all that bad! Go back and watch T3 with an open mind... or better still... go and watch 'Breakdown'! <p> This talkback cerainly is a worthy successor to the TEST talkback. Just.

Terminator 4: Rise of the McG

    by optimus plump

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 5:49 a.m. CST

Getting Bale onboard is quite an achievement, script...

    by KillaKane

must be pretty good and/or McG's pitch/reel. Not a fan of McG's, thought this was short sighted of the producers, these types of kinetic MTV bubblegum shooters are a dime a dozen. The story and characters are the most important, great visuals and editing in context with the former is what makes a genre standout like the Terminator so effective. I hope for Bale's sake that McG (ditch that stupid handle and get some cred)raises his game for this.

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 5:59 a.m. CST

Brad Fiedel should return to score T4 ...

    by KillaKane

He's been off the radar for too long, has he retired? I thought Beltrami's score for T3 was sorely lacking in any thematic material and was bereft of that synclavier/synth industrial sampling that characterised Fiedel's work on the first two films. With today's technology he could turn in a killer score.

CHUD's source claims Bale has been cast as a Terminator

    by KillaKane

Either way I'm stoked he's onboard, but a Bale Terminator would be an interesting proposition, goota wait for the air to clear on this and hope for an official announcement. The consensus seems to be that insspite of the director choice the fact that Bale has signed means this project has to have serious potential. Strike or no strike, Bale does'nt take a pay day for the sake of it, he's built up such an impressive critically lauded body of work that even more overtly commercial work has to have merit.

Bale is the white man's Samuel L Jackson.

    by Grammaton Cleric Binks

You see his name and the first thing you think is Bad Mo Fo. I've said it before, and I'll say it again, when I saw Bale was going to be Bruce Wayne I knew it would be 1) awesome and 2) a step down because he owned in Equilibrium. As for Reign of Fire, the movie could have been better plot wise. It was a great original concept, but then failed to deliver on depth of the story. However Bale and McConnaghey (sp whatever) both looked like they were having a contest to see who was the buffest baddest mo fo left on the planet. Now Bale looks like that a lot, but Matt, daaamn he got jacked. So if this information is correct, and Bale is Connor, please Mr. McG open my wallet and take my money now. And if you are lying then I will hunt you down like the dog you are.

    Equilibrium was good

    by Bobo_Vision

I thought it was like 'Brave New World' spliced with the Matrix, but yeah I can see Fahrenheit 451 and 1984 in there too. My only problem with it was how it was too stylistically similar to the Matrix in terms of the action, like many Matrix clones in the wake of that trilogy.

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 9:08 a.m. CST

    Bobo_Vision, I must disagree

    by Grammaton Cleric Binks

Yes I would say there were style similarities, but I loved Equilibrium because there was much, way much less wire-fu and CGI. Not that there weren't any, but it was downplayed, and the action carried the movie beter because of it. The combat scenes seemed more realistic.

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 9:10 a.m. CST

    Bale good mcg bad

    by kimbers

I think theyve picked bale coz ever since the machinist hes been annorexic he looks like hes survived off a few dead rats in the ruins of a radioactive LA for the past twenty years Unfortunately mcg will turn it into a standard soul less hollywood/MTV pop video that the studios will love my only hope is it would kill the franchise and that studios would decide to make original insightful and daring films

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 9:15 a.m. CST

    There was definitely less CGI

by Bobo_Vision Equilibrium, for sure. But in terms of the gun play, the kung fu, and even the look, style, and wardrobe, it just seemed too much like the Matrix. Take a look at this Equilibrium poster, and it looks like Bale and Taye Diggs have raided Neo and Larry Fishburne's props and wardrobe closet. <p>

I saw the cheap ass looking "world" and thought "oh God this is going to suck". <p> Then Bale went Gun Kata in the darkened room and I thought "holy shit!"

    by Turd Furgeson

Is the day we celebrate in remembering the Pilgrims and their hard journey to this country. They sat down on the 3rd Thursday in November with the native americans to break bread and try to form a common community or just an attempt to get along... Then the early americans spent the next 100 years killing them and taking their land... Ahh bliss. The original Thanksgiving meal was most likely comprised of foods of the time, like deer, fish, clams, muscles, vegetables and breads. We changed that to an easier to eat meal like Turkey, potatoes, stuffing, vegetables etc. in the 1800's... That help IAmMrMonkey?

the Rwandan genocide. Okay, the analogy is a little off, but that film sucked. Entertaining and dumb are not synonymous, despite what people will tell you. The first two Terminator films were both entertaining and well crafted. I don't put them in masterpiece category, but rather two solid entries in the career of James Cameron. It is a great casting decision, though.

    Time Travel

    by Turingtestee

Terminator plots all have a theme of time travel paradox . . . Ryese being from the future and Johns dad, the technology to develop skynet came from the future incarnations of skynet, hell even T3 (which felt like a weird version of a Terminator from a universe parallel to our own where the T2 stories differed in characters and outcomes, personally, I really dont consider it cannon at all). Changing the setting to the future resistance nearly removes the possibility of continuing the theme of paradox (the major paradox being the creation of information nothing, whether that information be biological (john), technological (super powerful computer chips), or computational (the abstract lines of code that actually make up skynet). Without that paradox its just a war movie set in the future. I wont be following the Terminator show on t.v. either for almost that very reason.

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 4:11 p.m. CST

maybe it's not a misspelling- maybe AICN knows what it's talking about. the guy Gil Brooks on here says that bale playing John Conner is 'Half' right...maybe skynet pulled an oopsie and went after john CONNOR in the first three movies on accident, because someone typed an 'o' instead of an 'e'...and Bale is a guy named john CONNER in the future who is the real resistance leader. Or maybe just to confuse skynet, John changes his last name by one letter to throw them off the scent. HA HA please know i'm kidding.

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 4:19 p.m. CST

OR john connor isn't even a person

    - what i mean is, John Connor dies at some point, maybe even early on in the wars, but was so influencial or something that his namesake is 'kept alive'...much like Osama bin laden probably being dead, but his people keep saying he's around and making decisions. Skynet is so hell bent on looking for one guy, but what if he doesn't even exost? what if the resistance movement calls itself'john connor'? or some malarky?.....okay i'm out of stupid ideas.

They Should Keep Going With The B Movie Campiness of T3

    by LaserPants

T3 was effing great -- MUCH better than T2. And the thing that makes T3 was so much better was how gleefully retarded/funny AND dark it was. How the main badgirl could make her boobs change size, and how Duh Terminatuh was programmed not only as a killing machine/father figure, but a couples counselor (hey, you never know, maybe Skynet is really concerned about human relationship problems). In addition to taking it to the comedy camp zone where it should be, T3 also featured the best efx and action sequence of the series. Whoever said Bruce Campbell as John Connor is DEAD ON. Thats where it should go. I hope Bale plays JConnor as a cross between Ash, his character in American Psycho, and John Wayne.

  • Nov. 22, 2007, 6:09 p.m. CST

Why would Christian Bale sign up for this? <BR><BR>A) Big Starring Role in a film, whether we like it or not, that will be sold world wide with a huge push. <BR><BR>B) The role is an iconic character that the previous 3 movies have been teasing us with, but never really seeing him do anything more than look through Binoculars - but is a fictional savior of mankind. If the script has that in it, what actor wouldn't want that role. <BR><BR>C) With Arnold out of the franchise - it needs a new face, a new direction and a new vision. <BR><BR>Purple Laser Rifles and Rocket Launchers on 4x4 jeeps rule. <BR><BR>He'll end up with a really groovy scar at some point. <BR><BR>After being a P.O.W. in two films, it's his turn to kick ass.

Which just goes to show, that it doesn't matter how B-Grade the project is, Bale will ALWAYS give his best (which cannot be said of some great actors who keep phoning it in). And that alone gives me hope for T4.

But, hey, in your seriously serious defense, I'd also like to see a cool hard sci-fi kinda take on the future apocalyptic groundwar too. But with something like Terminator, the ship has already sailed on it being retconned into BSGness. Least ways not in the hands of a McG. I reckon it'll be crap, so may as well make it funny.

...a lot of Hollywood B movies say they want to be but aren't. "Sure, it's not a 'good' movie in the classical sense, but damn if it's not an awesome lot of fun!" 90% of the time it is both not a good movie nor a fun movie, but Equilibrium lives up to the good bad film experience with excellence, thanks in no small part to the fact that Bale dominates. And by the way, I too am still experiencing the nauseating, disorienting synapse misfiring distortion effects of Bale and McG...together. In the same place. On the same movie. Something in the spacetime continuum is gonna give and what the fallout will be I don't know, but it will be interesting.

Long time reader, first post ever...

    by The_Juice

As far as a Terminator sequel goes, there's not a better casting choice then Christian Bale as John Connor. Although, I must admit, I'm not quite convinced of McG being "the man" to direct this particular film. In a perfect world, James Cameron would come back and tie up the series for us; however, he's too busy attempting to debunk the authenticity of certain religious figures... I heard his latest IMAX feature will be revealing the tomb of Santa Claus! That's right kids... Santa bit the big one. Anyway... It would be nice to see Cameron come back to helm the project, but it's obviously not going to happen. That being said, I like zom-bot's idea of bringing back Arnold as a solder who gets captured and becomes the mold of what will be the T-101. That's a hell of an idea! All that being said, I trust Bale enough to engage in projects that he thinks will make great films. If he were all about the paycheck, it would stand to reason he would have had no problem with being in the JLA flick... Wouldn't ya think? Quite frankly, Any movie with Bale, I'm willing to give a chance... I guess we'll have to wait and see!

If you're doing this on purpose, it does point to CHUD being correct and you being correct at the same time. Nick Stahl looked okay as adult Connor

    by Grammaton Cleric Binks

in T3, granted they had him heavily into makeup. T2 had some guy with a huge scar, a look that said I take no crap, and some serious respect. The guy is walking through the battler area, and all his men snap to. You could tell it was from respect, not fear. I wonder if T4 is going to make the character that hard. Too bad Sean Bean is a little up there. He would make a great Connor. I dunno though, I bet he could pull it off. I love Bean, and his characters definitely help make a movie, but he is not name above the marquee material, which is a shame.

Irony: Why Furlong Was Not In T3 (Funny Anecdote)

    by LaserPants

Apparently, the Holders of the Pursestrings decided that Furlong, long known to be strung-out burnout drug addict, was too much much of a strung-out burnout drug addict to play the, uh, strung-out burnout drug addict John Connor. (??????????) Enter Stahl, who, as a more stable actor, was deemed more able to portray John Connor as the homeless stung out drug addict he is at the begining of T3, even though Furlong actually IS a stung-out burnout drug addict. Weird, right?

  • Nov. 23, 2007, 8:53 a.m. CST

I listened to the commentary on T3...

    by Bobo_Vision

...when I watched it on DVD years ago now, and I clearly remember Nick Stahl and Claire Danes talking about how they got involved in the movie co-starring with Arnie, and both of them talking like it was way beneath them as actors, especially Nick. As if working in an Arnie movie was a complete farce to them, but then they both put on their Hollywood faces and said something like, 'Oh, but working with Arnold was, um, "great". He's, um, "great".' The choice to be in T3 was clearly for the payday, but its clear that Danes and Stahl will not be back. <p> But I can't stand Nick Stahl, whether he can act or not, so I would hope they don't recast him. I don't know what it is, but he's very unlikeable. I've felt strongly that way since I first saw 'The Man without a Face'.

Christian Bale is 31 years old... Perfect age range.. And after years of fighting a war, nuclear fallout, malnutrition, stress and everything else that goes along with being the savior of the human race, I don't think the character is required to have a baby face or look young.... Matter of fact, someone with Bale's physically imposing presence and ability to command a room/scene, will lend a ton of credibility to the part..

  • Nov. 23, 2007, 9:39 a.m. CST

The reason Edward Furlong was not in T3...

    by qweruiop

...was because he was considered too much of a liability to be insured by an insurance company. You see every major actor that's on the screen, who's paid millions of dollars for their part, in turn has to go do a physical and an evaluation by an insurance company that the movie studio enlists, all done before the movie even begins production. (Directors and producers have to do this too). This is an absolute necessity, and it is done so that the studio, which usually pays the actors up front money, isn't left stranded with millions of lost dollars should the actor accidentally die, get in a paralyzing car crash, get hit by a bus, etc. But certain actors, like Furlong and Lohan, continously act in such risky behaviors (like drinking and getting high), that no insurance will dare take the risk in covering and face a high default risk, hence the inability to insure them which leads to the inability for them to get parts. The term for this type of insurance is "Key person disability insurance".

I for one love Christian Bale but even he can make some poor choices in search of a paycheck. Reign of Fire was a complete waste of Bale and shows that just casting him can't lend credibility to some very shoddy Sci-Fi writing.

Just watched T2 again last night...

    by BLEST

Man that's such an awesome film! T3...ehh, not so much. It's ok, I guess, there were some cool moments and the ending was good, but unless it's a transition to a series of films that are revolutionary like The Matrix really shouldn't have been made. Also, has anybody anywhere heard any OFFICIAL confirmantion that Bale is involved in this film, in ANY role? Or are we just taking Harry's word that this is happening? Loved the comment about Christopher Walken playing Dooku in Episode II "bank on it." that Harry made before. That's funny stuff; hopefully this is a repeat situation.

I guess with the writers strike McG will have to resort to on-set improvisations from the actors. <p> Because know this: McG puts his stamp on things and there is nothing you can do to stop him. Be it casting, editing, or sucking -- he is goddamn in control. <p> I fear he may have got this job because of that scene in Full Throttle where O'Grady walks through the fire like the T-1000. The studio looked at that and knew that McG could see into Cameron's very soul.

Arnold should have left the terminator a long time ago.

    by TheNorthlander

His involvement in 1 and 2 made sense in those movies. Terminator 3 with arnie was forced because there is no way SkyNet would make only one type of T-800 model. That makes no sense whatsoever.<br> Check out the flashback in Terminator 1 where that other T-800 infiltrates the human camp and massacres everybody with a laser minigun. It's a great sequence because it really shows that they can't tell the difference between these infiltrator units and their own kind. If all Terminators looked like Arnold Schwarzenegger they would be completely useless. In fact, the fewer that does look the same, the more it shows how dangerous SkyNet is.

Clever Change in Direction for the Franchise

    by GCH888

There was no way the producers could find an actor iconic enough to replace Arnold as the Terminator so rather than focusing on that character why not develop the John Conner instead? All the previous films never really showed John Conner as the hard-core bad-ass resistance leader fighting the Terminators. And to have an intense actor like Christian Bale taking over the role of John Conner shooting down terminators left, right and centre will take this movie franchise into a completely new direction. Clever move ... I just wish they had a director with the same pedigree as Christian Bale to lift this off. Good move for CB as well since this will ensure he won't be typecasting himself as Batman.

Equilibrium is high art, or dumping on Terminator. I think it's more of a director choice issue among fans. I know a lot of posters are saying let this franchise die, but I would love to see a new Termninator movie done right. I'm not even saying T3 was done wrong, but T2 was superior. I mean come one people we've only seen glimpses of the apocalyptic future in T1 and T2 flashbacks. I would love to see a full on balls to the wall, survive or die future movie with man against machine. Just give me three things: a good story, a good director, and some good characters. I know we all expect to see John Connor, and perhaps Kyle Reese in this. Whether it is set right after the bombs dropped or a day before they sent Arnold back the first time who knows. Although since it is a Terminator movie it probably be at least around the time T-800 came off the line with real skin as opposed to those rubber models they talked about in T1. Me personally I would not mind seeing Arnold in it as a human soldier/blueprint for T-800. But a cameo in fine with me. Oh, and Terry Crews, daaamn.

to seeing The Machinist yet. I love Bale, and I don't know what is creepier, the fact that he looks so freaky in the movie, or the fact that he practically starved himself to lose the weight. The only transformation I can compare it to it Crowe going from overweight in The Insider and then dropping it to kill everything in sight in Gladiator. Then again Donofrio was buff as "Thor" only to pack on the pounds to play Pyle; Russell got jacked for Soldier, and Hanks was pretty skinny in Castaway, but Bale is always one to takes things to the extreme. It's also probably easier to pack it on than take it off. Love Bale's action stuff of course, (understatement)but he needs to get another drama under his belt soon.

BALE vs SCHWARZENEGGER! It's obvious with Box-Office

    by ABking

Bale is no box-office draw, just a hugely respected actor from both critics and geeks. Would he help sell some tickets? Some, but not enough to be a hit letalone a mega hit the way T3 was with 433 million worldwide--that was all SCHWARZENEGGER!!! The TERMINATOR name would sell most of the tickets before fading away. But Bale and Arnold teaming up as Connor and Arnie as a tough-as-nails soldier, that could really work!

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 11:14 a.m. CST

M-o-M, Bale had no high profile starring role

    by SpencerTrilby

before American Psycho (terrible movie), except Velvet Goldmine (distributed like shit outside the US, and I heard inside as well), the prince of Jutland (same here) and Empire of the sun (one of the weakest Spielbergs, and who cares about the children actors anyway?) so Equilibrium and Batman Begins did a lot for his career, it's undeniable. I doubt being the baddie in Shaft 2000, dubbing Disney flicks or playing Jesus for TV would've put him on geeks radar, or anyone's radar for that matter.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 11:20 a.m. CST

I think the Terminator name was more of a box office draw...

    by rbatty024

than Schwarzenegger. Look at some of his last films: End of Days, The 6th Day, Collateral Damage. He wasn't exactly lighting the box office on fire towards the end there. His heyday was the eighties which carried over into the early nineties. Unfortunately most people don't know what to do with him as an actor. Cameron was one of the few people who was capable of fitting him into a role naturally made for him. The Terminator franchise is still viable without Schwarzenegger if the movies are still well made. Although, admittedly that's a big "if".

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 11:43 a.m. CST

Also, Bigelow is a terrific director, but

    by SpencerTrilby

I doubt she'd be interested by an all-out, post apocalyptic future war movie with robots. I'm not sure the director of Near Dark, Point Break or Strange Days would find anything fitting her sensibility in that. She's good at blowing up stuff, but I'm not sure she likes it enough to give up 2 years of her life for that. Anyway, they chose a low-grade-yet-competent director, let's just wait and see now.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 11:55 a.m. CST

it would be a good farewell

if Arnie did come back for the very small role of a hardened fighter for would be the best and most gracious roles of his career if he came back and his screen time was brief but powerful (good friend, good soldier, tragic casualty, model for terminator)....i think it would be Arnie's first DEATH scene- he's always the survivor. It would be a great final notch in his career, give him some credibility, and show just HOW HARD the future struggle is. And it would be the only good way to pass the torch of the series. one of the biggest probs of the ALIEN franchise was dragging Ripley along for every film, and having to script it to accomodate her character. it was called ALIENS, after all, not RIPLEY:bad ass woman. and this series is called TERMINATOR, if you get my drift. Let arnie show up at the beginning, get offed, then have his terminator get made CGI style at the end of T4. Pay arnie for his likeness, problem solved.

    End Of Days

  • Rbatty024, TERMINATOR's name sold the box-office more than ARNOLD? That's gotta be the dumbest fucking thing I've heard! For anyone that feels the same way, get a real clue. Could a T4 work without Arnie? A "big" maybe but thats if the script is written by god himself and it's an amazing bar pusher Cameron style...but make no mistake, it was ARNOLD SCHWARZENEGGER that sold the tickets in all 3 TERMINATOR films! Arnold was the biggest star on the planet when T2 came out and it was all Arnie and Camerons directing what T2 made 518 million worldwide. If you put Colin Hanks (Tom's son) as a TERMINATOR, would the Terminator name sell the film??? Come on, don't make stupid statements like that!

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 1:34 p.m. CST

ABKing, I was refering to T3 but it does apply...

    by rbatty024

to T1 as well. Arnold's name probably did have something to do with the box office of T2 though. T1 was his first role and while his "performance" might have helped the film, it hardly drew in a large box office. During T2 he was a huge star and that is probably why the film was a hit, I'll give you that. T3 though? By that time he had a string of failures and no one was able to fit him into films as well as they could in the eighties. I don't think many people went to see T3 because of Arnold Schwarzenegger. It was the franchise more than the character and I think the studios have picked up on that considering the Sarah Conner Chronicles and T4 is without Arnold.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 2:14 p.m. CST

Lets see, research showed that Schwarzenegger...

    by ABking

was the sole reason to make T3! Without him, the film was in big trouble and no one wanted to see a T3 without Mr. Schwarzenegger. Mario Kassar and Andrew Vajna did polls and numerous research and they all came back and stated that SCHWARZENEGGER was the sole factor for make T3. Do you guys think after his amazing performance (for an action star in the iconic T1 & T2)that T3 would be made and people would pay to see it without Arnold? Think what you want but facts are facts. T3 made 150 million domestic because Arnold was in it. T3 made 433 million worldwide because Arnold is a GOD overseas (especially with Terminator). I'd love to see BALE by himself carry TERMINATOR SALVATION to 150 million of T3 or the 204 milion on T2 the way Arnie did. Northlander, you're a fucking idiot who pretends to know what he is talking abaout!

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 2:24 p.m. CST

    by TheNorthlander

If I'm an idiot for thinking T4 doesn't need Arnold Schwarzenegger then so are the people who invest millions of dollars in the three new planned Terminator movies and the Sarah Connor TV show.<br> I live overseas, and schwarzenegger is far from a "god" over here. He hasn't been popular in over a decade.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 2:35 p.m. CST

    A decade you say...

    by ABking

A decade would make it 1997 and over a decade is '97' and before....lets see, if Schwarzenegger hasn't been popular at those times then why these box-office grosses...ERASER (96)242 million worldwide with 141 million foreign; BATMAN & ROBIN (97) 238 million worldwide with props going to Arnold for the 130 million foreign in the Hollywood trades at that time; END OF DAYS (99) 211 million worldwide with 145 million foreign outgrossing BATMAN & ROBIN foreign; TERMINATOR 3: RISE OF THE MACHINES 433 million worldwide with 283 million foreign...Northlander, no what the fuck you are talking about before you say "over a decade"...

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 2:36 p.m. CST

Schwarzenegger certainly isnt the draw he once was...

    by judge dredds fresh undies

But the fact that Collateral Damage made even 1 dollar is down to him. A Terminator sans Arnie could well be a success but it will take a lot more than Christian Bale to do it. Although people wouldn't rush out to see a new 'Arnie' film the terminator is inextricably linked with Schwarzenegger and his absence would definitely put a dent in the credibility of the project and significantly lower the potential profit the film might make.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 2:42 p.m. CST

    Agreed about Arnie...

    by ABking

Arnie isn't the draw he once was but TERMINATOR is his and he (and Cameron) made it what it is equally. If any of you fucks say watching T1 & T2 and not admiting Arnie is the shit in those films and why they are so BAD ASS, then you guys can go watch McG's CHARLIES ANGELS films because that will tell me what kind of action and action stars you like.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 3 p.m. CST

    what I'm talking about

    by TheNorthlander

is that both Terminator 3 and Batman & Robin were franchise movies more than "Arniemovies". That's what drew the crowd, and that's why they grossed more than his other movies at the time.<br> There hasn't been a TRULY great "Arniemovie", and by that I mean action movie where he is the sole reason to see the movie and it's not part of a franchise, since True Lies. That was in 1994, over a decade ago.<br> Eraser, End of Days, 6th Day, Collateral Damage are all pretty pale compared to any of his earlier movies.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 3:37 p.m. CST

So if Arnie made TRUE LIES 2

    by ABking

If Arnie made TRUE LIES 2 it would be considered a franchise movie and therefor Arnie wasn't the sole draw to you right Northlander?!? If you think and say so pal!!! Batman & Robin I'll give it that the name BATMAN/franchise has been around since the 30's, but Arnie built the TERMINATOR franchise pal!!! Next you'll tell me RAMBO is a franchise movie and people will be paying to see "it" rather than Sly Stallone. It's Stallone as an older bad ass Rambo why people will pay to see RAMBO on January 25th and it's Arnie why people would go see a T4. Of course the "curious" moviegoer will pay to see it because Bale is a good actor and they'll think SCHWARZENEGGER is in it, but a box-office draw (Arnie for T1,T2,T3,T4) is different than a great actor that people love (Bale)...get the difference!?

You talk about it as an outsider. I was merely talking about it from the point of view of an insider. I'm a fan of her work, and not a fan of McG's. So I'm not defending him and trashing her. Merely talking about the reality of the situation. If you want further 'insider' perspective, the studio wouldnt hire Bigelow because they wouldnt want to upset Cameron either. Make no mistake, Hollywood IS a boy's club. And men can be arrogant pricks a lot easier than women can. It's reality, and unfair, but such is life. Appreciate your idealism, though.

The Predator franchise survived pretty well without Arnie

    by TheNorthlander

There's a new Conan movie comming out in two years without Arnie.<br> <br> It's not really fair comparing the Terminator movies with Rambo since Rambo is both the titular character as well as the main character while Arnie's T-800 has never been the main character of the Terminator franchise.<br> But since there's also been a new Mad Max movie in the works for a long time without Mel Gibson, I could see how a continuation of the Rambo movies without Sly could potentially work if the new movie ends up getting really big.<br> How many James Bond movies have there been now? 22 or something?

BOND actors compared to TERMINATOR & RAMBO

    by ABking

Now you are comparing Bond and it's numerous actors to Arnie and Sly's iconic signature roles! You are a piece of work who understands nothng in Hollywood. PREDATOR 2 (for your info) was a flop and grossed 30 something million while Arnie's grossed 59 million. So what if AVP made money. It's shit and ofcourse it would have since it has a fanbase. The movie is called TERMINATOR, not JOHN CONNOR. The character of Connor might be the savior, but the role of TERMINATOR became the main star!!!!!!!!Regarding Rambo, the movie is called RAMBO, not BURMA. Fuck that flop CONAN without Schwarzenegger and Milius.

    face it, ABking

    by TheNorthlander

if there wasn't a profit in making three terminator movies, they wouldn't be making them. Hollywood executives don't take chances, that's also why we have endless sequels and remakes instead of fresh ideas.

Michael Biehn Better Be In It!

    by Jumping Windows

Well, this is the perfect project to use the de-aging process used in the intro to X-men 3 throughout an entire feature. It would be groundbreaking to have an old Michael Biehn playing a young Kyle Reese. No other actor should be cast. I'm looking forward to it only to see the relationship between John Connor and Reese with Connor knowing that his buddy is his father. Now that would be an interesting dynamic. Don't miss this great opportunity to do something stunning, Mr. McGriddle.

I can't say I like that guy's performance in anything I've seen him in (although the only movie I really remember him from is die hard 4) but somehow that casting suggestion actually makes a lot of sense to me.<br> <br> I really wouldn't mind that at all.<br> Keep in mind also that John Connor has been played by three actors so far and there will be at least two more with the tv series and the new movies so somebody else playing Kyle Reese isn't really that big of a deal.

Is T4 like Star Wars Episode 4?

    by ohboy

In "T4", is like Episode 4--will introduce all the Resistance characters and focus on John Connors, Kate Brewster, his armies leading up to their fight against the Skynet. In T5, the Skynet (Empire) Strikes Back, where Kyle and the Resistance fall back. In T6, The Return of the Resistance and the Final Fight against the Skynet and wins.

Vin Diesel as 2nd billing In T4...?

    by ohboy

If Vin Diesel is indeed cast, he'll play 2nd to Christian Bale...since the story plot may focus on John Connor--which may be good for Vin. For the fact, his video game company Tigon Studios's head of VP, Cos Lauzouras is on board for The Halcyon Company T4 video games. Does that mean Vin's on board as well or did Cos quit Tigon to Halcyon? Anyone know?

    by TheNorthlander

There were some rumors or reports going around a few weeks back that the new trilogy would center not on John Connor but on someone else in the resistence.<br> <br> My guess would be that Kyle Reese is the main character and John Connor is the mentor character (think Morpheus or Ben Kenobi) who according to Campbell's mythological Hero's Journey storytelling structure would teach the main character what he needs to know in order to beat the badguys. The mentor would also give the main character a gift, and then die so the main character could take his place.<br> If I'm guessing right, the gift in this case would be the photo of Sarah Connor and possibly the ability to reprogram the terminators (which he did in the extended cut of T2 if you remember).<br> <br> If they choose to continue on the ideas presented in T3 with John Connor being killed in the future, it would make sense to have another main character being the "Hero". Also, if Reese going back in time to save Sarah Connor in T1 is enough to save the resistance, then him going through the portal at the end of T6 might work if they write it that way.<br> <br> Of course this is just speculation based on rumors, but I'm just saying if that's what they'll do then it might make sense.

And that sucked. I don't if Christian is the best for a great leader of the remainder of humanity. I mean the guy totally kicks ass, and if this is true I will totally see the movie just for that. However, Bale usually does such good movies that I am skeptical that he would sign on to a McG Terminator film......

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 6:18 p.m. CST

Is it confirmed that this will be a trilogy or is that just rumo

    by rbatty024

I think a futuristic trilogy will fit well within the Terminator mythos. At this point the mythology is more important than individual actors. The ability for the terminators to mimic humans could make for some great paranoid storytelling, something like "Screamers," and it hasn't really been explored as much as it could be.

great. I mean they just glossed over the whole destruction of mankind, and how the dragons returned. I'm a sucker for good origin stories and that's what pissed me off about Reign of Fire. Hell, I had to skip back a few times to get a load of all the news clippings, and hear what the hell he was saying. Plus, they unearthed one dragon. Where did the others come from. Was it a mating call of this one or what? And yeah Dredd Undies that poster was a ripoff. Didn't it have helicopters going head to head against dragons, and then in the movie you get only one helicopter that was running around with its tail between its legs. Like I said, good, but not great. They took a very original concept and watered it down big time.

    by GibsonUSA

JUST because he's Arnold-ish muscleman in Fast and Furious and Riddick? ....IMO he really doesnt fit the part of a Terminator, despite his physique. He has kind of a babyface when compared to the rough and ready faces of Arnold, Stallone, and even Robert Patrick. He looks like he'll sooner be in the next MTV dance movie than Terminator.<BR><BR> The 2nd name I keep hearing is The Rock. Are we this uncreative?

    Terminator Wars....

    by ohboy

Northlander, the trilogy's got potential if the T4 script focus on the human elements; develop the character arcs of the key resistance leaders, whether it's John, Kyle, or that "one survivor who happens to be a traitor in disguise" and not so much on the terminator robots. The stories and "7 timeline" are paradoxically confusing and complex for the general public or for anyone who don't really follow. 90% of those who's going to watch will turn off their brains, get "wow"ed while munching on popcorns and Hot Tamales. I'm hoping the producers will probably try to deliver a script that will satisfy both worlds and not go in a Bay-esque fashion, and blow shi^ up for cheap thrills. With that in mind, I'm curious what the producer's got up in their sleeve. For T4, I'd like to see the 2 main characters pro/antagonist as buddies, develop a strong friendship, bond, and trust in building the resistance. Then we have Kate Brewster as the "intuitive" type who sense the danger in the antagaonist but is not sure because he's John's best friend and a "good guy". As for the Skynet, they have to be careful and not pull the I-ROBOT where you have robot armies created by a lone lunatic. I'm not sure how this will pan out. Looks like it will be in T5, where they focus on Skynet and their metal armies striking back? For cast, I'd like to see Rachel Weisz to play Kate Brewster, Vin Diesel to play the antagonist, Michael Biehn to play the "dad" Kyle Reese to Christian Bale's John Connor.

  • Nov. 24, 2007, 11:18 p.m. CST

Michael Biehn is 20 years older than Christian Bale

    by TheNorthlander

Let's be realistic here. CG de-aging is in the face, like makeup but there's more to age than just how the face looks. Biehn is 51 years old, no way can he possibly play 20-something Kyle Reese again.<br> Do you REALLY want a 50-year-old playing a 20-year-old?

  • Nov. 25, 2007, 12:34 a.m. CST

    by TheNorthlander

I agree that the focus needs to be on the resistance fighters and everything.<br> <br> Still though. I'm not too sure about this whole future war thing when it really comes down to it.<br> Why? Because technically what we're getting here is the back story to the previous movies. Remember last time we got a "back story trilogy"? Technically, these movies will not be sequels, but prequels. I can't really think of one single prequel to a movie that's been REALLY good. We already know what's gonna happen and we don't need to see it.<br> <br> Didn't we learn anything from starwars?

    Perfect Ahnuld Cameo

    by POST

Bale as Connor would be perfect in my eyes. Bale as Terminator as another site says would suck. Ahnold should have a cameo but is too old and busy for a staring role. What I would like to see is a factory line full of newly made model 101s, all with Arnie's young-ified face. Perhaps they infiltrate a Skynet factory and see a long hallway with walls covered in dormant 101 models. That would be the perfect arnold cameo in my book. That scene almost made it in to the beginning of T2, put it in T4.

Brett Harrison from the TV series "Reaper" is a dead ringer for Biehn, and he has the acting chops to pull off a good Reese. As for Bale being Connor, it would really add a dramatic weight to the franchise, especially without Arnold. As an aging soldier, I'd throw him in there if he's down for it. It'd sure be interesting how they'd pull that off though. And if this shit is set in the future, it better damn well have a massive budget like it deserves. What's with that rumor going on over at CHUD are claiming Christian Bale is set to play another character and not J.C. nor the Terminator!!? Now, why do I have a feeling that for the 1st part of the trilogy-T4 will not be introducing The Terminator? Maybe in T5 or T6? It appears that T4 will be heavy on the human aspect--the Resistance and not so much the Skynet and their metal machines. The main plot? "John vs. The Traitor" ...the Christian Bale role, very likely. Now, who's going to be John Connors? I highly doubt it's Vin Diesel. We're expecting "The Terminator" to show up and waiting for the announcement of who's going to be the next "Terminator"....but the way this is looking, it may not even happen at all?!! If they are, it's going to be in T5 and/or T6? KISSman24, it looks like a "kiss my ass" to that awesome matchup between the cool Vin Diesel and the credible Christian Bale. Ohboy!

Well, I guess I owe Harry an apology....

    by BLEST

There is SOME truth to this rumor. MSN is reporting on the story that Bale is "in serious talks" about T4, but they mention that "he hasn't signed on the dotted line". AICN and Harry get a shout-out in the story, and so do the fanboys. The writer even questions Bale coming off of great work in many films, as to why he would work with "a guy whos crowning achievement is Charlie's Angles". LOL. Go to under Entertainment to read the article.

If this is indeed the story of the future war

    by Kaitain

...then that's encouraging. It's what T2 *should* have been, rather than that overrated juvenile shit we were given.

    T2 "juvenile" .."overrated"...?

so the Arnold terminator is definitively based on a soldier?

    by punto

If they changed it to some Scientist type character (you know, he pioneered whatever technology is necesary to build the life-like robots), he could just sit behind a desk for the whole movie, delivering all the technobabble and exposition, and then turn out to be the model for the robots just as credibly.

face the wrath of the Gun-Kata. Yes, the opening was bland, just like the world within the movie. However, if you go back and watch the DVD commentary you will understand why they did it the way they did. Okay, maybe it's asking too much of the average moviegoer to wait for the DVD commentary to understand, but I can see where they were coming from. I tell everyone the same thing: Sure, the first five minutes are boring as hell, and you're like yawn, snooze but, as soon as the action kicks in.......hell yeah.

there'd be all this emotional stuff, since john already "knows" him as the father-figure-robot from his past (their future)

    by GibsonUSA

Since he knows whats going to happen in terms of Soldier Arnold getting taken away by Skynet, cant he change it? (The premise of Minority report)....Cant he just hide Arnold away in some bunker......maybe Skynet got Arnold's DNA in an unexpected way....maybe they just scrapped up some of his dry piss or something...

So here goes: Harry, you were right. I was wrong. Hollywood Reporter has announced that Bale is in negotiations. I still don't get WHY he'd do it (especially with McG at the helm - don't get me wrong, Joe's a nice guy, but... Terminator?) Anyway. "You were right. Tell your sister... you were right."
