CHUD Breaks Some Fascinating WATCHMEN Rumors!

Published at:  Nov 21, 2007 4:27:08 AM CST

Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.

They’ve got a heck of a good team over at CHUD these days, and Devin’s been busting ass since moving to LA, breaking some great scoops. He’s been tireless in trying to break stories on WATCHMEN, and this week brought one of the strangest updates on the film that we’ve seen so far.

I’ll be in Vancouver soon to see what’s going on with the film. Hopefully I’ll have something I can share with you after that. In the meantime, check this out:

Interesting rumors about expansion of the WATCHMEN cinematic universe and how TALES OF THE BLACK FREIGHTER may be presented.

should be a 12 part HBO series

    by bobwalnut

as the adaptors are obviously finding out. Too much integrated detail in the thing for a 2 hour flick.

    Um. Okay.

    by iammrmonkey!

So it might be out on a seperate DVD? That's totally going to confuse people who've never read the book. Can't they add it to the movie?I have a really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really, really bad feeling about this movie.

It sounds like this movie is rapidly spiraling out of control. It was to be expected i suppose.

I'm not saying this will be either good or bad, but...

    by beastie

... it sounds like Snyder is putting forth as much (probably more) effort than any one of us geeks would do. I respect that and look foward to all of these bonus materials. He has great ideas, but I'm holding off judgement until I see the final project.

    Wow, I wanted it animated . . .

    by nice marmot

. . . but I wouldn't watch it by itself. If they cut it into the film on the DVD, I'm already drooling for my copy. Please be good, please be good, please be good . . .

    Very worrying?

    by gaiusbaltarsmojo

I always feel that when directors are talking about the DVD before the film is even released (or halfway finished!!) it is very ominous. Because surely they should be focusing all their efforts on GETTING THE FILM RIGHT! Screw the jam-packed DVD - i'd sooner it got released with no extras than for the film to be a crock of shit. Who watches Snyder?

this is the STUPIDEST idea ever

    by burgerking

Wasn't the point of the black freighter to be a parallel to the main plot of watchmen? So releasing it completely seperately would be pointless...the story alone means nothing, it has to reflect the apocalyptic present in the story to have any point to it. Obviously the retard studio exs think that just blasting it out there will make us fans rejoice. No. That is wrong.

Also, animated is a stupid idea. The point of the movie was to see a real world version of this story, so making it animated sort of defeats the purpose, even if it's only a small portion of it. Fuck, this movie is going to blow.

The only way this will work

    by reel american hero

Is as extra material cut into, and I'm assuming watched separately on the extended cut dvd. Putting either of those bits by themselves takes them out of the context of the story, in the case of 'The Black Freighter', or would lessen the impact, in the case of the Midnighter interview.

I don't see them thinking of this extra material for the dvd (hopefully), as harmful to the movie now, Snyder's just trying to make this film the complete Watchmen movie experience. There's no way possible to cram all that into a theatrical audience friendly running time, but for an everything in the comic book is on the screen here cut for dvd, like Sin City pulled off, this would just make it even better.
