John Singleton Goes Sci Fi!! Get Ready For EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX!!

Published at:  Nov 20, 2007 9:11:36 AM CST

Merrick here...

I've a feeling we may have posted something about this on AICN already, but our search engine is embarrassingly, shamefully shitty so I can't look backward to be sure. Apologies if this is repeat news.

With that caveat...

John Singleton is heading towards EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX. The project...

follows the residents of a small, snowbound town, who band together to fight a mysterious horror that turns out to be an alien being unleashed by a plane crash.

...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.

So, it's sorta like 30 DAYS OF NIGHT with aliens? Or...THE THING?

The project is being scripted by Philip Eisner, who wrote EVENT HORIZON and the forthcoming MUTANT CHRONICLES. EVENT HORIZON was the only Paul W.S. Anderson movie I could begin to stomach (although it sure is imperfect).

EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX. Kinda like that title, something funky and retro about it in some way.

Could be interesting.

Wasn't John Singleton attached to one of the John Clark stories? This sounds like a mesh between 2 Clancy books.

What I would like to see....

    by mr. luddite

this sounds like just another action flick masked as scifi. I would like a strong black director to flip the script and give us a thoughtful science fiction story with a pedominantly black cast.... (with a token white guy in a supporting role), not like an all black cast starring Tom Hanks as the lead character. I liked what the Matrix trilogy did by creating a world where the brown people were a major part of the world, helping to drive the story, not just the token black guy that is always the first to die.

Back in the day I even wrote out a treatment for EVENT HORIZON 2, to try to get myself to write a script. Never got to the script.

Loved EVENT HORIZON - despite imperfections, it still scares the shit out of me! And let's be fair, MORTAL KOMBAT has cheesy rewatchability. And Prince Goro!!!

Looking forward to MUTANT CHRONICLES. VERY much.

    by ray gamma

Event Horizon was actually a thoroughly nasty, creepy movie, very very morbid in places. And while, yes, flawed in some parts, it still grabs me when i accidentally stumble on it on satellite movie channels.

It seems to have become victim to that sheep-like trend of bashing a movie because you saw someone else bashing it.
