John Singleton Goes Sci Fi!! Get Ready For EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX!!
Merrick here...
I've a feeling we may have posted something about this on AICN already, but our search engine is embarrassingly, shamefully shitty so I can't look backward to be sure. Apologies if this is repeat news.
With that caveat...
John Singleton is heading towards EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX. The project...
follows the residents of a small, snowbound town, who band together to fight a mysterious horror that turns out to be an alien being unleashed by a plane crash.
...says THIS ARTICLE in Variety.
So, it's sorta like 30 DAYS OF NIGHT with aliens? Or...THE THING?
The project is being scripted by Philip Eisner, who wrote EVENT HORIZON and the forthcoming MUTANT CHRONICLES. EVENT HORIZON was the only Paul W.S. Anderson movie I could begin to stomach (although it sure is imperfect).
EXECUTIVE ORDER: SIX. Kinda like that title, something funky and retro about it in some way.
Could be interesting.

Wasn't John Singleton attached to one of the John Clark stories? This sounds like a mesh between 2 Clancy books.
-
Not much of a stretch as far as sci-fi goes.
-
Sounds more like John Carpenter's "Thing" than "30 Days of Night".
-
What the hell is up with that movie ? Havnen't heard anything about it in a while
-
Or maybe it'll be Kurt Russel's turn this time.
-
this sounds like just another action flick masked as scifi. I would like a strong black director to flip the script and give us a thoughtful science fiction story with a pedominantly black cast.... (with a token white guy in a supporting role), not like an all black cast starring Tom Hanks as the lead character. I liked what the Matrix trilogy did by creating a world where the brown people were a major part of the world, helping to drive the story, not just the token black guy that is always the first to die.
-
Singleton is pretty cool so this might be good. Wished he would have done the Clancy first though, I would love to see Clark leading Rainbow 6 onscreen.
-
...especially if the aliens are vicious, nasty, bloodthirsty, ratbastard, Eurotrash aliens.
-
To Hide.
this is just another clone of The Thing; the greatest horror film of them all. -
Back in the day I even wrote out a treatment for EVENT HORIZON 2, to try to get myself to write a script. Never got to the script.
Loved EVENT HORIZON - despite imperfections, it still scares the shit out of me! And let's be fair, MORTAL KOMBAT has cheesy rewatchability. And Prince Goro!!!
Looking forward to MUTANT CHRONICLES. VERY much. -
Exterminate ALL of the Jedi, mother fuckers.
-
I had no idea there had already been 4 sequels to Executive Order.
-
Blow.
-
Seriously, this plot outline sounds like slight variations on about two dozen "different" Stephen King stories.
-
where he's stuck in a bus station. One of the worst movies ever. Didn't Singleton run over an old woman?
-
people stuck on an island off the coast of Maine during a snowstorm. I think it was in Everything's Eventual. Don't remember if there were aliens in it.
-
Mr Luddite, where the hell did that come from? Mutant Chronicles, like the books? or something different?
-
What a surprise.

I was hoping for a typo & JS would be involved with STAR WARS
by jeffmansixtyfo
PSYCH! Bummer...more sadness.
-
Starring Wesley Snipes, who dies 10 minutes in, leaving Mario Van Peebles to save the day.
-
Monster in small town.
Run, run. Scream, scream. Shoot, shoot. -
The fact that this site seems to have gotten rid of your LINKS page.
It's like a slap to the other sites who helped get you where you are, and who STILL to this day link to you.
It's very shitty. -
Not that that's a big thing but when I read the headline I was kinda hoping Singleton was going to tackle some crazy-ass SF, not a monster movie. I hope it's still a cool as shit monster movie, but I'd rather see him do something that sounds meatier.
-
And it was cheesy as hell. FOUR BROTHERS was damn near impossible to watch. Hopefully with this change in genre he can make something decent and then use that thunder to make a good marvel movie. Ahh he's just kidding himself he's not making any Luke Cage movie.
-
Single'ton Singleton movie (see what I did there..!) So I'm pretty sure I'm not gonna like this either. He's rubbish..!
-
He made a ton of shit after that. Goddamn, that Shaft movie was terrible. And Poetic Justice?
-
Going to ractially profile people in this movie to, and fire them? Also yeah why does the Ain't It Cool Search engine suck so hard? The Hughes brothers need to make a space movie. Singleton needs to umm not do anything.
-
The Hughes brothers need to make a comeback in a big way.
-
It wasn't bad enough were they had to get shunned away from all other promising projects. There's no doubt, they have talent.
-
Damn you John Singleton!
-
This site being the only one on the entire internet with messageboards that don't feature an edit function. Isn't it time you reminded Harry that this is 2007 and not 1987?
-
I can't belive I was the first person to mention the horrible Bill Cosby spy movie. How embarrassing if i'm the only one who has seen it.
-
Why keep kissing his ass??? Boyz in the Hood was made in 1991!! His Shaft fucking sucked. He's the black Ratner with smaller budgets. There are many terrific young African American directors out there give someone else a chance. No need to be all ass kissy and afraid to call someone a hack because they are black.
-
Just because nobody here (or, in fact anywhere) watched "P.S Your Cat Is Dead", you don't need to have a brain tumor.
-
Oh the shame.
-
Sounds like a cross between "The Thing" and "Tremors"...and From Hell was great except for the See It From a Mile Away ending.
-
whilst hanging out with Blompkamp in District 9. Then Bruce Willis came along with 12 Monkeys and put the kabosh on the whole deal.
3 numbers separated by 3. Coincidence? I think not. -
Paul W.S. Anderson makes me hate the world. How does that guy keep getting work?
everything he touches turns to shit.
WHO KEEPS GREEN LIGHTING THAT GUY?! -
Menace 2 Society is a classic that holds up far better than Boyz in the Hood, and From Hell was one of the most underrated films of its year. The Masons are behind everything!
-
all studio heads care about is experience. They dont care if the movie will suck, they just dont want the production to fall apart in the middle of shooting because the director cant hack it.
-
my kinda pr0n0
-
that name and the word hack always happen to be used in the same sentence.
-
Spamster, if I made you laugh through an entire movie, I'm jolly well pleased. At least you didn't nod off. -- Eisner
-
That is a much better search engine than that Semperex crap you've got locked in here. I also think it's free to incorporate into your site. For god's sake, dump that search zero and get with the hero.
-
It does! - 2 fast 2 furious. Done with you sir. Hustle and Flow and Black Snake Moan were great though - nice when an inner city black man can help out the career of a white southern man.......
-
Such as Boys N the Hood, and........uh.........
-
Havn't seen Executive Order 1-5?
-
He did do Higher Learning which I think was horribly under rated....pretty much summed up the college experience from multiple perspectives.....
-
Event Horizon was actually a thoroughly nasty, creepy movie, very very morbid in places. And while, yes, flawed in some parts, it still grabs me when i accidentally stumble on it on satellite movie channels.
It seems to have become victim to that sheep-like trend of bashing a movie because you saw someone else bashing it. -
MORTAL KOMBAT was shitty but enjoyable for kids (which is what I was when I saw it)
-
And Destro will be GI:JOE's main villain. Geez, catch up.
-
Ugh.
-
Six (6)
-
'a raven-haired baroness and sexy femme fatale skilled in espionage.' Doesn't sound like Scarlett to me.
-
I think they're confused. If she IS Scarlett then they already fucked up by making her a "a raven-haired baroness". Why would they include the word "baroness" anyway? Well, this begins GJINO I guess.
-
Could never get past the edited home movies of hell that Sam Neill finds when he gets to the ship. Cracks me the fuck up to picture the minions of hell gathered around an avid arguing over which shots they should use.
-
...and she writes poetry. Ugggh. I still can't believe how terrible Singleton has been since Boyz N The Hood.

Grady from Sanford & Son had a cameo in Boyz N The Hood...
by fa fa fooey
He pointed and grunted a little bit. Me likes Grady but where was Bubba?
-
It could happen...
-
Didn't he run a guy over with his car?
-
That was Singleton wasn't it? Although, I liked it mainly for the bad guy who was played by one of my favourite actors. Still, it was an entertaining hour and a half.
-
As for "Event Horizon;" the first half is great, then it starts to fall apart.
-
Seriously, has he ever made a good movie that *wasn't* a ripoff of Menace II Society?
-
Geek Porn just got taken to a whole new level

Sexecutive Order: 69 with Bill Clinton and Jenna Jameson
by mrmysteryguest
Who wants to see that?
-
Very good food!
-
Never seen Sons of Katie Elder but damned if saw a better shootout in a long LOOONG time! And Chiwetel always tears up the screen in a bad guy role!
Personally I'd like to see more Brothers From Another Planet but only if it's a nice ORIGINAL idea. This one, sadly, does not sound like the one... -
It looks like Philip Meisner likes role-playing games. The outline of XO:6 sounds similar to a Call of Cthulhu/Delta Green short story called Animal Bones, by Stabernide.
See for yourself: http://delta-green.com/opint/case_histories/ch_ADG.SN-0150.html -
That's lame.
-
The way too short answer to your question is: no, not what I imagined, but as Norrington (s cut. That would give you a chance to hate it it all over again. ;)
