Spock's Daddy Is...
Merrick here...
...BEN CROSS. So says his official web site.
Cross' career ranges from greatness (CHARIOTS OF FIRE) to poop (S.S. DOOMTROOPER), with many stops in-between.
TrekMovie has an interesting side-by-side comparison of Cross next to Mark Lenard, who originated the role of Sarek. You can see that HERE.
Cross has never struck me as being a terribly dimensional actor (although this characterization may be unfair - I haven't see much of his work). At first glance, this might make him uniquely suited to play Spock's father. However, Mark Lenard's iteration of Sarek (seen in THE ORIGINAL SERIES as well as THE NEXT GENERATION) was often surprisingly nuanced...almost imperceptibly conveying range and depth while upholding a severe veneer.
Can Cross pull-off this layering? We'll see...

wow.

and second!

Although vulcans live longer (and prosperer) than humans, in TOS, Sarek looked in his forties. In a prequel to TOS he should appear younger, no?
-
Nouveau Barnabas Collins sired Spock?! My mind asplode.

*Note, I am not Really your daddy but this is great casting
by proman1984
Cool.
-
I don't know the guy but he sure looks like Sarek.
-
I don't think this film is going to be terrible, but i just can't seem to get excited about it. I don't get why everything needs to be a prequel. Trek could easilt be rebooted in other ways
-
Why he's doing this shit lord knows. Oh I know - kerchinnng! He could do this in his sleep.
-
Get the fuck out of here...

i love the original trek movies with shatner and the gang, parts 2 3 4 and 6 being my favourites, and im curious to see what they do with this one, but with all the casting news and all the hype surrounding it its got alot on its space continual hands, i dnt recall any of the previous trek movies having this kinda build up, but obviously this is no ordinary trek movie, i hope im proved wrong but i sense that this movie is gonna crumble under the weight of expectation, with so many characters involved im worried its gonna be a bit of a mess, and jj abrams is obviously a fan but am i the only one who felt mission impossible 3 was a complete bore. id love to grab hollywood execs by the balls and shout in their god damned ears the following bit of insight "great stunts, great action do not make a great movie, great characterisation, great script, great acting does, dnt even think of rolling a camera until u know for sure that u have those elements in place and that ur confident that the picture ur about to embark on will be worthwile"
but hey what do i know, im jst a fan. -
She's too high class.
-
See: Star Trek: Nemesis, Insurrection ST: Enterprise...
-
Dark Shadows: 1991 is where I got my first exposure to the guy. He was a great updating on the Barnabas character. Very Nosferatu in his physical presence, while having a certain romantic charm as well. Yeah, I think he'll project range well, if he handles the role properly.
-
You know, Sarek's first son, and Spock's half brother who became an emotional prophet or some nonsense and was the big bad in Star Trek V. They should cast Jack Black. It would make about as much sense as Karl Urban playing bones.
-
My interest is gone. This is now "Star Trek 90210: The Bee Movie" to me.
-
Analrapists and Nevernudes unite!
-
The reason there is so much hype about this movie is because its the first Star Trek movie not going to use a cast from the TV show. Though I do agree, once all the casting is announced, I would not like to hear anything about this movie except maybe a site visit and a teaser trailor. But I feel we will have update overkill like the new Batman.

HELP ME SPOCK
Help me Spock, the shields are down
The wormhole's caving in
I been up and down the galaxy
And I never seem to win
I got a forlorn Gorn and he’s at my back
and he ain’t preaching “No kill I”
Well he’s slow and green and really, really mean
And that f***** just won't die
So please, please
Help me Spock
Well a Klingon bastard killed my son
And the Nexus took my life
And if I had the chance, I’d do it all again
And take a green bitch for my wife
Yeah I was getting fat, feeling old
And my hair was getting thin
I been up and down the galaxy
and I never seem to win
So please, please
Help me Spock -
... which is going to be the latest casting news for the Justice League of America as to the actor playing Batman.
-
Oh, and USS Cygnus...do you like anything? Everytime I've seen your name in a TB you're bitchin' about something. Dude, lighten up.
-
not mention Voyager when you're naming off D.O.A. Star Trek projects? That's the cream of the crop when it comes to poorly executed Trek concepts.

Next casting news: Christian Slater to play Picard's Grandfathe
by gch888
... or something like that. I mean how long is this movie going to be? Looks like they're trying to fit every Star Trek character past, present and future into this single film.
-
cradle robbing aside, could a much older sarek (cross' bio lists him as born in 47) satisfy a voracious young amanda (winona's bio lists her as born in 71)if they only did it EVERY 7 YEARS? ON VULCAN NO LESS?
-
they deserve compensation for mind-meld content
-
Kirk Scream..
-
Now lets see if he has the acting chops to pull it off.
-
and here's another thought. do vulcan women scream during labor?
-
it was popular during its run regardless of quality. recent movies and enterprise crashed and burned in every way. i think trek can return but needs reinventing in a way not involving time travel and prequels. if it cant be done then screw it. child of its times anyway, nobody watches traditional scifi anymore.
-
is you'ld never get the ears back.
-
Not sure, but he was a dead-ringer. They should have gotten him.
-
To Live(spit) My(slobber) Life!!!
-
and the peanut butter solution's trailer, shwartzman loves this movie.
http://www.doubleviking.com/the-absurd-peanut-butter-solution-trailer-7046-p.html -
And I support the Live long and Prosper on this one.
-
First Knight. Remember that shit? Poor what's her name. That movie ruined her career. And she was so great in Smella's Sense of Snow.
-
Someone in this movie has to be able to throw a believble punch!!!! Good cast but a bit femmy (except for Cross) Get SHATNER FUCKING NOW!!!!!
-
Pshaw, show me a big budget Hollywood movie with the balls to have a giant mutant Nazi as the villain.. Nooooo they just go for the standard old guy in black with the German accent. Snooze. And for those who say the CG character effects for the Doomtrooper were crap!? Keep this in mind, it was WWII, 1945, they didn't even have CG back then. BAAM!!!
-
The triple whammy of SMILLA'S SENSE OF SNOW / SABRINA / FIRST KNIGHT killed her stone dead career-wise. I'll have to IMDB her to see what she's up to. Ben Cross? That's OK casting. Shame he's done so much genre movie villainy in his career. See McDowell and Warner also. Slackers!
-
Isn't it funny that Harrison Ford, Sean Connery and Richard Gere, the stars of Sabrina and First Knight, got a free pass on those movies. Smilla's Sense of Snow was a kick ass flick. One of my favorite.
-
With five projects so far for '08, I think she's doing OK. Besides, after Legends of the Fall (great on so many levels) it was all down hill for her anyway. She could never top that nutty character.
-
Patrick Stewart...in heels.
-
trailer...thought some people might be interested
-
I had to use the Google for this catchphrase.
-
Aaah...I really can't get excited by new Trek. Compared to newer franchises, the crew of the Enterprise, etc. always look like a bunch of back-down bitches.
-
gotta love QT
-
so is this a TMNT-Sequel? NY check, some kind of radiation gone wrong check, turtle check...hmmm
-
Somewhat took a metaphor too far...
-
casting for this thing. Too bad the others aren't this good.
-
Seems like a simple enough concept. And yet I've seen plenty of people going "That guy who plays Spock is a terrible actor, but man, put a wig on him and he looks just like a young Leonard Nimoy! I feel better about this already." How does that make any sense? If this Ben Cross guy is a terrible actor, how does looking vaguely like the guy he's replacing make things better?
-
Because the only type of punch "the Kirk" ever threw was a double-punch to the back of the neck. And then a hop, a roll and a tearing of that green velour top. Kirk-fu is more science than art, my friend.
-
winona is taller.
-
Having Shatner + Nimoy in this film is the only casting I care about. Thus far I am 50% interested. Get Shatner + Nimoy and you have 100% of my attention.
-
Ben Cross would've been great as the Shadow twenty years ago
-
Ben Cross will do fine and will probably steal the show from the WB grade cast he'll be working with.
Aside from Simon Pegg and Cross this cast is BORING!!!! But they sure are 'pretty'.
-
Kill this movie? It shelved "Angels and Demons" aka "The Bad Hair Returns", why not this movie?
-
When I first heard Abrams would be doing this project, the thought occured that Garber would make an excellent Sarek. No such luck.Instead the casting directors went with the imaginative choice of an actor with a British accent and a sharp profile to convey authority. They're really batting a thousand with this one.
-
Wasn't he last seen in some budget science-fiction movie where he played an alien who had stop another alien from impregnating Earth women or something?F**k, I really should head over to IMDB before I post these things.
-
[Insert C-List twentysomething TV actor here]
-
Or are they just going to cast every character who has ever been on Star Trek?
-
Maybe he should be Sarek's cousin.
-
In the 1990 re-do of Dark Shadows I think he pull this off.
-
5'11". Which, if you're Mae West, you respond to by saying, "Forget about the five feet. It's the eleven inches I'm interested in."
-
and he looks more like Lenard.
-
NO SPOCK, I AM YOUR FATHER.

I just hope they get JAMES HORNER back to do the score
by bendersshinyass
If you're a trek fan, Check this shit out (fix the spaces) ht tp : // you tube . com / watch? v=GOP 2GrF 8hho
-
And so was Ash/Bilbo as well. Damn I'm a nerd.
-
You know, I'm sure this film is a bitch to try and cast. I love classic Trek and would really like to see more stories of classic trek. I also understand that the original actors who played those roles can no longer do so. Sure they could go out and find exact doubles for the original actors but they probably would not have the talent to play the roles. So they try to find actors who bare a resemblence to the original actors and can also act. They have no choice. OK, I can live with that, even thou some of the casting has seemed more than a bit wacked. But the thing that bothers me the most is reading that they have redesigned the Enterprise. Why? This more than anything else will probably keep me from seeing this movie. This is just stupid.
-
He was a better Barnabas Collins than Jonathan Frid ever was. This is decent casting. He'd also be great on *Doctor Who* as some type of villain.
-
Now that would make sense. He already played the Mudd-esque character Henry Van Statten on *Doctor Who*. He's also been in other genre features such as *The Mummy*, *Hellboy*, the last Bourne flick, and *A Sound of Thunder*. He's always turning up in stuff.
-
Ben Cross was in that, plotting to blow up Hitler before Tom Cruise was taking his first auditing class while pondering (hetero) celibacy while married to sexpot Mimi Rogers.
