Jeff Bridges Back For New TRON Movie??

Published at:  Nov 15, 2007 1:51:07 PM CST

Merrick here...

Collider has an interview with Jeff Bridges in which the RECENTLY ANNOUNCED TRON MOVIE is broached.

…there’s a lot of reasons not to do it. But the reasons to do it and the reason I did that one was because it was so innovative and I understand that they’ve got a whole new batch of stuff like that… innovations that they want to use on this so that could be kind of fun.

...says Bridges in the interview, the entirety of which can be found HERE. There's also an .mp3 of his comments, which can be accessed through the article.

This shouldn't come as a big surprise. From what we know, the new TRON is being positioned as something of a continuation rather than a remake - Bridges being involved would make complete sense.

At one point (quite a while back) a sequel concept found Bridges' Flynn character journeying back into the computer world & going all funky; his role would've been similar to Brando's Colonel Kurtz in APOCALYPSE NOW. No word on if this angle is being retained in the new iteration of the sequel, although I suspect they'll start fresh.

For its time, it was one of the most innovative movies. I spent hours, and hundreds of quarters, playing the video game in the local arcade when I was a kid. If the sequel is done right, this could be pretty cool

In the span of two days we're hearing new projects, either remakes or sequals in some form for Tron, Poltergeist, Friday the 13th, and Ghostbusters. And hopefully at least one or two of these projects doesn't suck. We shall see though.

Can we get some new fucking ideas please!? Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, a sequel to Tron? Really? And NOW is the right time? I don't know where these assholes got the idea that the iron is hot and they'd better strike it, because a Tron sequel would make little/no money.

Man, as long as Flynn's back, I'm back. More Jai Alai, and light cycles! WOOT! Maybe this will 'update' the video game aspect of the first TRON movie, and Flynn will kill the bad guy, and then 'hump' his corpse, and go on a murderous rampage, and end dudes with his disc, and a voice barks out 'KILLING SPREE' while prepubescent little Hitlers bark out anti-semitic and homophobic epithets over their little headsets connected to TRON-BOX Live.God, I'm so fucking old.

It had an interesting concept, a totally unique look, it showcased CGI for the first time, and the score was brilliant. The movie as a whole though is only good, certainly not great. On a side note TRON is playing at the Seattle Cinerama in 70mm on February 24 and 26, March 2 and 4 and I will definitely be driving up from Portland to check it out.

Forgetting that Ted Striker and Greg Brady played Starman and his son on TV in the '80s, I would like a sequel with Karen Allen and the whole thing. Also, now that I know Jeff Bridges even HAS a son, I think he should play either Flynn's son in Tron 2.0 or Starman's son or something. Why not? Hollywood doesn't have anything better.

    by thepilgrim

Terrorist hack into the united states governments APOC program. The A.P.O.C recipe is comprised of every known virus in existence combined into one giant super bug. The united states army developed it with the intent to kill the Internet acitivites in any opposing countries if needed during a war. This cell infiltrates the building and releases the hack on America disabling the worlds traffic air traina and vehical, power grids, cellular networks, cable systems, the works. Flynn is called in to hack it back. He gathers a team of high stat XBOX Live players to help him. He uses a video game program that implements top of the line virtual technology to immerse players into the code to solve program and virus issues.

And when I finally did, it wasn't all that great. Then I watched it again in my 20's and realized that other than looking real cool, it pretty much sucked.I mean, there's stiff, corny dialogue, and then there's Tron dialogue. Now almost 30 years later, we get a sequel? Could people's nostalgia for a pretty bad Disney flick be that strong? Where's the Black Hole sequel? As that one sucked too.

Since all of the TV show movies didn't do so well a few years ago, we've got to go back and mine old movie franchises to draw people back to the theaters (Rambo, Indy, Friday the 13th, Poltergeist, Trek, now TRON)

I'm all for nostalgic movies, but personally I'm a little tired of movies based on comic books, video games, graphic novels, etc. Can't someone come up with an original idea? Please?
