Roman Polanski is haunted by Robert Harris' GHOST!!!

Published at:  Nov 09, 2007 2:28:22 PM CST

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. You know... I love Roman Polanski's films, but I have to take issue with serious movies that use horror film names. THE GHOST... and it's about international espionage? At least the Patrick Swayze movie had real dead people in it and those creepy-ass hell demon things.

However, I'm sure I can look past my bias against non-horror films carrying genre titles, even though I know some kid is going to see the title on Netflix or something and get tricked into watching a political intrigue film. If he makes a good movie that could end being a good thing, so we'll have to wait and see.

Robert Harris wrote the novel THE GHOST and is co-scripting the movie with Polanski, who will direct. Apparently there are a lot of parallels between the lead character, a British Prime Minister, and Tony Blair, a longtime friend of Harris'. The flick is about a ghostwriter who is hired to help a former British leader complete his memoirs... of course this draws him into the aforementioned political espionage and intrigue. Thoughts?

Look. Here's my issue. It's not a big deal, really, but ever since I was a tiny tot watching my grandfather's cable, I have been a fan of Polanski's work (all thanks to THE TENANT.) He seems to be one of the few commmerical directors who gets the sense of the evil mystery of occultism that Kenneth Anger repeatedly tried to induce in both LUCIFER RISING and INVOCATION OF MY DEMON BROTHER. Polanski portrayed a real understanding of the bizarre nature of wickedness in his flicks - and thanks to Bobby Beausoleil, may have paid for it with the tragedy of his family. With a title like that, I find the whole thing a bit misleading and ultimately disappointing.

    Oh, okay, about Roman's pederasty.

    by sepulchrave

First of all, he did NOT 'flee the US' after he fucked the girl. He RETURNED to his home country. He was never a US citizen, okay? So he was never deported, nor did he run away. Secondly, the girl, now a woman, has publically forgiven him, which was very big or her. Thirdly; pedo, pederasts and anyone who resenbles a pedo-pederast, are the demon kings of our generation. I was watching a super little documentary last night, about a small Wisconsin town in the 1890s, in which a sixty five year old man was married to a fourteen year old girl. This amongst all manner of murders, suicides and other havoc. The appetite on the internet for 'barely legal teens' proves that pederasts (in mind at least) form a fairly large minority (say 17%) of the adult US male population. So let's not act like they were spat out of hell from the Devil's own anus; there's probably one in your family, maybe two.

Whether or not he was a U.S. citizen and/or the girl forgave him (she didn't) is completely beside the point. He committed a heinous crime and fled the country to avoid serving time. He left before he could be sentenced because he was worried that the judge was going to impose the maximum amount of jail time allowed. He is a talented filmmaker but a cowardly piece of trash and I await the day when the AICN gang realize that there are more important things in the world than movies and take a public stance against Polanski and anyone would would finance or distribute his films.

Polanski was convicted in a Los Angeles court of giving Quaaludes to a 14-year-old girl and then sodomizing her while she was unconscious. Try defending that. You are correct that years later the victim said she forgave him, but that doesn't make it any less of a crime.

Get it? HE USED HIS POSITION IN THE INDUSTRY TO RAPE A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL. This is NOT just about his "personal" life. If a camp counselor raped a kid, would anyone in their right mind allow him (or her) to keep on being a camp counselor, because, other than that nasty rape business, he really was a good counselor? The reason why Polanski keeps getting so much clout...

    by qweruiop

is because he never has officially paid for his crime. Most people like to forgive others if they spent some time for their crime. In the eyes of the world though he fled (regardless if he was just visiting, the timing of his quick departure just after being tipped off about the judge giving him the maximum sentence makes it so obvious that he fled. It's like defending OJ's move to Florida because he enjoys the scenery, when it actuality of course he went there to shelter his earnings from any court rewards) to escape any punishment, conveniently staying in a country that doesn't allow deportation, and has since continued to enjoy a successful career in directing. That's why he keeps getting so much grief for it, even decades after its occurrence. He did one of the worse things under the penal system (raping a child, and yes she was a child since she was only 13 years old) and then never got punished. And no, facing years of public awareness of his crime does not constitute as punishement served. Just my two cents.

Okay. One: Roman Polanksi had an awful life. Alot of people who do miserable, evil things do. Two: He actually IS talented - and I happened to like the NINTH GATE, jerkfaces! THREE: HE FLED! HE'S A PEDOPHILE! (Many powerful men in the 70's abused their authority in Hollywood.) AND HE MUST PAY FOR IT! All things are true. He is a tormented, talented, pederist that ran for the vineyards the minute he thought he might be held accountable. As for Sepulchrave, "rave" is the only thing right in your freakin' name, pal. As in, "You are raving. You are mad. You have forsaken rationality for an irrational sense of superiority. I don't agree with the war in Iraq. But if you're British (and by your ridiculous rant about Tony Blair, I can only assume you are) your country shares in the blame. If you hadn't stuck YOUR NOSES into three nations where they didn't belong after WWII to seize the oil, Saddam never would've existed in the first place. Now YOU want to blame U.S. and claim you had nothing to do with it. I am so bored and exhausted with UK/Euro-snobbery. It's tedious. Christians aren't the source of all evil, and neither is religion in general. Not all Americans are unintelligent illiterates (some of us read Alan Moore.) And we DO NOT ALL APPROVE OF BUSH. He has an approval rating lower than Nixon's, for crying out loud. We just can't kick him out of office at the moment. We want to, but our hands are tied. So, get off our backs. We are a young country. I believe all of you back in the "old countries" had your problems with over-reaching political authority mixed in with theological misnomers too, and for much longer; or did you forget about the Divine Right of Kings and Oliver Cromwell? Wanker.

You read Alan Moore? Good, I like him too. That said, reading Moore isn't necessarily a sign of intelligence (just saying). As for Bush, I guess the 'old countries' are naive enough to think you would learn from their mistakes, but nope, you voted Bush into office. Twice. (I'm not British, by the way). And as far as religion goes, well... I'm not a religious person. I happen to think it divides people. It's the major source of intolerence, even if it preaches the opposite. I don't necessarily think of religion as an evil. It's a double-edged sword. But hey, back to Polanski. Wasn't he funny in Rush Hour 3. I'm kidding. I'd never watch Rush Hour 3.

wouldn't that mean that I policed apologist & their apologies? or are you the "apologist police"? anyway picardsucks you're an idiot and you may not have mental faculties to grasp my point. therfore it might be futile for you to read on if you're still reading this. unless this is being read to you by a grown-up. if so, just have them skip over the confusing parts so you don't get frustrated.

he obviously shouldn't have raped a young girl if that's what happened. it probably did in some form, would be my guess (though we don't really know what went down). likewise the manson family shouldn't have killed his wife. nazis shouldn't have killed his mom. life is really crappy sometimes. horrible. and maybe he needs to be further punished, beyond the public harassment and humiliation he has faced year after year. but are you really the one fit to judge? an imbecile snug in a cozy chair angrily typing away at a keyboard; you think you’re the one to cast stones at a man raise on murder, rape and genocide? of course what you think is no skin off polanski's pedo-sack but it's a bit galling to hear such a chorus of ineffectual whining about someone making movies. if you said "hey dmcarter, I hear r.p. is going to be having sex with some underage girls after drugging them; what do ya think?" I’d reply "hey there mister that sounds wrong!" but he's making a god damn movie, you scumbag! likewise I'm firmly against polanski becoming a daycare teacher -- that I don't back down on. but movies, go ahead my polish friend.

all I can infer from your tirade is that old republican farts are starting to hang about on fanboy messageboards now. The 'rave' thing was lame. Super-lame. Oh and wanker is our word. As are twat, wally and cunt (when referring to a stupid man).
