Roman Polanski is haunted by Robert Harris' GHOST!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. You know... I love Roman Polanski's films, but I have to take issue with serious movies that use horror film names. THE GHOST... and it's about international espionage? At least the Patrick Swayze movie had real dead people in it and those creepy-ass hell demon things.
However, I'm sure I can look past my bias against non-horror films carrying genre titles, even though I know some kid is going to see the title on Netflix or something and get tricked into watching a political intrigue film. If he makes a good movie that could end being a good thing, so we'll have to wait and see.
Robert Harris wrote the novel THE GHOST and is co-scripting the movie with Polanski, who will direct. Apparently there are a lot of parallels between the lead character, a British Prime Minister, and Tony Blair, a longtime friend of Harris'. The flick is about a ghostwriter who is hired to help a former British leader complete his memoirs... of course this draws him into the aforementioned political espionage and intrigue. Thoughts?

This is a film about a ghostwriter after all

We used to hang out at Jack Nicholson's place all the time, just chilling in the jacuzzi, getting drunk, chatting up chicks, the usual...
-
This means we'll have about thirty people talking or making jokes about what 'he did' whilst another twenty argue about what 'he didn't do' and telling people to get their facts straight. Hold onto your hats!

Roman Polanski is haunted by Samantha Gailey
Yes, I went there!
-
Chinatown was the best fucking film Nicholson ever did
-
i often spend money to see a film based solely on the title and nothing else, not the plot, or the poster, or the trailer, oh no just give me a title and i'll hand over my money based on nothing else.
-
The movie "Naked Lunch" isn't as exciting as you think it'll be from the title.
-
According to the former, they had an excellent working relationship (Harris was a political reporter) and he had tremendous respect for him up until the Iraq war, but that's it. Just a minor clarification. Carry on.
-
Dateline's "To Catch a Predator" segment.
Watch him try to run away from Chris Hansen and the camera crew. Too funny.
-
But no TB for last night's Office? It was a good one. Now, to stay on topic, Roman Polanski is a polarizing figure.
-
"creepy-ass hell demon things". WTF? They weren't creepy in the slightest.
-
What happened to the film of Robert Harris' Pompeii that Polanski was gonna direct? I know Polanski pulled out a while ago but since then nada on Pompeii moving forward? Great book by Harris... anyone know anything?
-
I highly recommend it. I fell in love with Sharon Tate because of the way Roman described their relationship.
I'm not sure Sharon ever deserved Roman, the guy couldn't keep it in his pants when in the company of other girls. -
Roman Polanski will always carry the dual title of director/pedophile.
-
"Thank Heaven. . . for little GIRLS!"

He's a piece of human trash and deserves to be shot. Don't support anything he does. If you don't know the whole story, read the testimony here: http://www.thesmokinggun.com/archive/polanskicover1.html

Or are they retroactively banned?
-
I would rather see the musical remake of that. And I was hoping that he would do it after he had to cancel "Pompeii".
-
a bit contrived at the end, but still a decent read. Seems like a decent writer. I'd consider reading something by him again. I just saw Ghost in the bookstore yesterday and considered getting it but didn't. And that's all I've got.
-
I need a better synopsis. Mesa confused!!

..FOR LITTLE GURLZ!

I thought I was gonna be the darling of the tb..

We finally agree on something! Polanski is a sick fuck who needs to serve his prison sentence.
-
I'm guessing they're either changing the script or converting somewhere in Europe to look like the Vineyard region.
-
in the US, hence the title of the movie musical would likely be the same.
Vy am I ze only vun with en accent? -
Look. Here's my issue. It's not a big deal, really, but ever since I was a tiny tot watching my grandfather's cable, I have been a fan of Polanski's work (all thanks to THE TENANT.) He seems to be one of the few commmerical directors who gets the sense of the evil mystery of occultism that Kenneth Anger repeatedly tried to induce in both LUCIFER RISING and INVOCATION OF MY DEMON BROTHER. Polanski portrayed a real understanding of the bizarre nature of wickedness in his flicks - and thanks to Bobby Beausoleil, may have paid for it with the tragedy of his family. With a title like that, I find the whole thing a bit misleading and ultimately disappointing.
-
He should do the time, but he is a messed-up individual, so I don't think he'll come clean and take responsibility.
-
Being a good director does not give him the right to rape underaged girls. Just like being a good football player doesn't give OJ the right to stab his wife to death. Wake up and stop kissing the ass of people just because they're famous. This guy is a piece of shit. Why would anyone want to kiss a piece of shit?
-
the glove didn't fit...duh
-
The drunken, drugged out 13 year-old girl said YES!
-
But seriously (nobody cares, guys, she's dead of old age already) Tony Blair is converting to Catholicism! I knew that silky little rat was a secret bible basher. no wonder he was full of the corpse-light of unnatural self-belief; don't worry about anything guys, we're all going to heaven, Horray. Dipshit.
-
First of all, he did NOT 'flee the US' after he fucked the girl. He RETURNED to his home country. He was never a US citizen, okay? So he was never deported, nor did he run away. Secondly, the girl, now a woman, has publically forgiven him, which was very big or her. Thirdly; pedo, pederasts and anyone who resenbles a pedo-pederast, are the demon kings of our generation. I was watching a super little documentary last night, about a small Wisconsin town in the 1890s, in which a sixty five year old man was married to a fourteen year old girl. This amongst all manner of murders, suicides and other havoc. The appetite on the internet for 'barely legal teens' proves that pederasts (in mind at least) form a fairly large minority (say 17%) of the adult US male population. So let's not act like they were spat out of hell from the Devil's own anus; there's probably one in your family, maybe two.
-
Starting off the adaptation of Pompeii failed, so there are two more chances.
-
'Guilty Conscience'. I seem to remember that he did.
-
Robert Harris; the master of suspense. The secret is...the SECRET IS...THE NAZIS KILLED ALL THE JEWS IN SOMETHING CALLED 'THE FINAL SOLUTION'! Argh! No, don't tell me; the spoilage!
-
When your defense is that you believe you were set up as part of a blackmail scheme but raped an underage girl anyway, well, you've got no defense.
-
It doesn't matter that he returned to his own country, he was still fleeing the US. He currently avoids going to any country that could extradite him (France does not extradite it's own citizens).
If there is one or two peados in my family well then fuck them too, your argument is still bullshit. -
Whether or not he was a U.S. citizen and/or the girl forgave him (she didn't) is completely beside the point. He committed a heinous crime and fled the country to avoid serving time. He left before he could be sentenced because he was worried that the judge was going to impose the maximum amount of jail time allowed. He is a talented filmmaker but a cowardly piece of trash and I await the day when the AICN gang realize that there are more important things in the world than movies and take a public stance against Polanski and anyone would would finance or distribute his films.
-
Polanski was convicted in a Los Angeles court of giving Quaaludes to a 14-year-old girl and then sodomizing her while she was unconscious. Try defending that. You are correct that years later the victim said she forgave him, but that doesn't make it any less of a crime.
-
Do all our subject headers have to say that now?
-
...no...really.....
-
anyway you couldn't hope for a more talented rapist
-
I like the man for his work, his personal life means nothing to me, just like every director
-
To all the dipshits who say Polanski's personal life isn't anyone's concern - this was his PROFESSIONAL LIFE we're talking about. He lured the girl on the pretext of doing a Vogue photoshoot. Get it? HE USED HIS POSITION IN THE INDUSTRY TO RAPE A 13 YEAR OLD GIRL. This is NOT just about his "personal" life. If a camp counselor raped a kid, would anyone in their right mind allow him (or her) to keep on being a camp counselor, because, other than that nasty rape business, he really was a good counselor? Pull your heads out of your asses people.
-
yeah the guys fucked up but I'm not gonna stop liking his movies
-
Eek Eek, the man;s a monster; a very common MONSTER. Fuck you. Worse things are happening, have been done, are being done, by your precious GIs in Iraq right now, baby murdering rapist scum. dry your eyes and salute the kiddy-rapists.

I mean, who didn't see Lost in Space and little 15 year old Lacey Chabert prancing around in a skintight uniform with space age push up bra and not think "You know ? If that Robot wasn't looking, I'd probably fuck it". But Polanski actually DID it. And not just that, he got her drugged up and then ASS RAPED her. AND SHE WAS 13. There's just no defending that - even on the internet.
Dude deserves to rot in a shithole prison and I'll never pay a dime to see any project that he is associated with. Hollywood might love drug pushing sodomistic statutory rapists ... but not me. -
Who hasn't, right? Edgar Allan Poe married his 13 year old cousin (lucky fuck). It was legal back in the dark ages and, hopefully, it will be again one day. If not, I'm moving to Amsterdam.
-
I'm on the wrong site again, aren't I?
-
is because he never has officially paid for his crime. Most people like to forgive others if they spent some time for their crime. In the eyes of the world though he fled (regardless if he was just visiting, the timing of his quick departure just after being tipped off about the judge giving him the maximum sentence makes it so obvious that he fled. It's like defending OJ's move to Florida because he enjoys the scenery, when it actuality of course he went there to shelter his earnings from any court rewards) to escape any punishment, conveniently staying in a country that doesn't allow deportation, and has since continued to enjoy a successful career in directing. That's why he keeps getting so much grief for it, even decades after its occurrence. He did one of the worse things under the penal system (raping a child, and yes she was a child since she was only 13 years old) and then never got punished. And no, facing years of public awareness of his crime does not constitute as punishement served. Just my two cents.
-
... the world would never have seen his delightful take on Oliver Twist.
-
It might've saved all of us from watching that piece of shit The Ninth Gate. Horrible, horrible movie. You sure that wasn't made for Sci-Fi?
-
I'll still see it. maybe the whole mother dying in Auschwitz, fleeing a nazi-occupied ghetto, wife getting brutally murdered by Manson Family thing had a negative impact on his moral judgement. I'm sure you guys went through similiar things growing up.
-
Love how all attrosous behavior is excused and forgoten in today's society. He raped a child but he had a horrific upbringing so it's ok. He murdered a little boy for his air Jordan shoes but it's ok cause he's a minority and society made him do it. He fucked an intern in the Oval Office but it's only sex what's the big deal?? He fucks little boys he meets on the internet but it's ok cause he has a constitutional right to free speech and express his values. She's overweight but it's not her fault obesity is a disease let's give her total disability and our taxpayer money. And so on and so on. What the fuck every happened to any accountability??? Hitler had a rough childhood too should we let him slide???
-
Yeah, that autobiography's a pretty decent read. To think, after Sharon Tate's murder, Polanski was so obsessed with catching the killer(s), he even suspected his buddy Bruce Lee. Would have loved to see that fight take place.
-
Okay. One: Roman Polanksi had an awful life. Alot of people who do miserable, evil things do. Two: He actually IS talented - and I happened to like the NINTH GATE, jerkfaces! THREE: HE FLED! HE'S A PEDOPHILE! (Many powerful men in the 70's abused their authority in Hollywood.) AND HE MUST PAY FOR IT! All things are true. He is a tormented, talented, pederist that ran for the vineyards the minute he thought he might be held accountable. As for Sepulchrave, "rave" is the only thing right in your freakin' name, pal. As in, "You are raving. You are mad. You have forsaken rationality for an irrational sense of superiority. I don't agree with the war in Iraq. But if you're British (and by your ridiculous rant about Tony Blair, I can only assume you are) your country shares in the blame. If you hadn't stuck YOUR NOSES into three nations where they didn't belong after WWII to seize the oil, Saddam never would've existed in the first place. Now YOU want to blame U.S. and claim you had nothing to do with it. I am so bored and exhausted with UK/Euro-snobbery. It's tedious. Christians aren't the source of all evil, and neither is religion in general. Not all Americans are unintelligent illiterates (some of us read Alan Moore.) And we DO NOT ALL APPROVE OF BUSH. He has an approval rating lower than Nixon's, for crying out loud. We just can't kick him out of office at the moment. We want to, but our hands are tied. So, get off our backs. We are a young country. I believe all of you back in the "old countries" had your problems with over-reaching political authority mixed in with theological misnomers too, and for much longer; or did you forget about the Divine Right of Kings and Oliver Cromwell? Wanker.
-
You read Alan Moore? Good, I like him too. That said, reading Moore isn't necessarily a sign of intelligence (just saying). As for Bush, I guess the 'old countries' are naive enough to think you would learn from their mistakes, but nope, you voted Bush into office. Twice. (I'm not British, by the way). And as far as religion goes, well... I'm not a religious person. I happen to think it divides people. It's the major source of intolerence, even if it preaches the opposite. I don't necessarily think of religion as an evil. It's a double-edged sword. But hey, back to Polanski. Wasn't he funny in Rush Hour 3. I'm kidding. I'd never watch Rush Hour 3.
-
so when does he stop becoming poor little Anne Frank and start becoming pedo-demon Polanski? You people have got to realize that the abused children you wail over will probably grow up to be the abusers that you revile. There is no separation between them; evil is latent in all human beings and the seeds will grow when watered with cruelty. Always. There are no real inhuman monsters.
-
yes, those hell demon things from Ghost that dragged the guys off to hell made me wet the bed as a child. That and the hell demon thing from All Dogs Go to Heaven. Boo to film makers that put creepy demons in romance/kid's animated movies.
-
My aunt was abused as a child, she repressed the memories and developed some severe mental issues,
her mentsal health has deteriorated and my cousins and uncle have been devastated by this, it seems unlikely she'll ever get out the hospital
frak polanski, frak harris and frak any studio that goes near him -
This place may explode when it is released...
-
Shut the fuck about Polanski and the 13 year-old girl. Everytime there's an article about the guy you get specious moralists like Anchorite bitching about him being a pedophile and sicko. The girl forgave him. It's over. Deal with it. Of course Polanski is fucked up, wouldn't you be a tad fucked up if your beautiful pregnant girlfriend was brutally murdered by the Manson family? Fucking twats.
-
thats it youve cracked it, every time someones wife or husband is murdered they get to rape a child!
the worlds fair again
man i wish there were more people like you in power the world would be a Utopia
-
wouldn't that mean that I policed apologist & their apologies? or are you the "apologist police"? anyway picardsucks you're an idiot and you may not have mental faculties to grasp my point. therfore it might be futile for you to read on if you're still reading this. unless this is being read to you by a grown-up. if so, just have them skip over the confusing parts so you don't get frustrated.
he obviously shouldn't have raped a young girl if that's what happened. it probably did in some form, would be my guess (though we don't really know what went down). likewise the manson family shouldn't have killed his wife. nazis shouldn't have killed his mom. life is really crappy sometimes. horrible. and maybe he needs to be further punished, beyond the public harassment and humiliation he has faced year after year. but are you really the one fit to judge? an imbecile snug in a cozy chair angrily typing away at a keyboard; you think you’re the one to cast stones at a man raise on murder, rape and genocide? of course what you think is no skin off polanski's pedo-sack but it's a bit galling to hear such a chorus of ineffectual whining about someone making movies. if you said "hey dmcarter, I hear r.p. is going to be having sex with some underage girls after drugging them; what do ya think?" I’d reply "hey there mister that sounds wrong!" but he's making a god damn movie, you scumbag! likewise I'm firmly against polanski becoming a daycare teacher -- that I don't back down on. but movies, go ahead my polish friend.
-
all I can infer from your tirade is that old republican farts are starting to hang about on fanboy messageboards now. The 'rave' thing was lame. Super-lame. Oh and wanker is our word. As are twat, wally and cunt (when referring to a stupid man).
