The Producer Of VAMPIRES ON BIKINI BEACH And MOTORCYCLE CHEERLEADING MOMMAS Brings Us...HIGH NOON!?!?

Published at:  Nov 06, 2007 11:12:23 AM CST

A producer named Mark Headley has joined forces with Christopher Mitchum (son of Robert)and business partner Toni Covington to acquire the rights to HIGH NOON.

For those who've never seen it, HIGH NOON is the angsty 1952 Western starring Gary Cooper as a marshal whose town (and even his deputy) refuses to help him when badguys come-a-callin'. "High Noon" references the time a train conveying the villain will pull into town (the countdown to his arrival was critical to the movie's drama and tension).

HIGH NOON was very much a template for Peter Hyams' OUTLAND - the 1981 Sean Connery film which, while not officially a remake, was damn similar to the 1952 movie in many regards (even down to certain score elements).

Not familiar with producer Headley's work, I looked him up and found a slew of rather amazing titles to his credit, including NEON MANIACS, NUDIST COLONY OF THE DEAD (which I suppose brings new meaning to the term "stiffy"), and MALIBU SPRING BREAK.

More about the remake can be found in THIS HOLLYWOOD REPORTER ARTICLE.

The original movie was truly great - I'm assuming this represents Headley's big chance to front a (presumably) high-profile, non-schlocky project & it would be a damn shame to see the film screwed up. I guess the artistic & financial success of 3:10 TO YUMA brought this about?

As always, it's too bad The Powers That Be insist on falling back on remakes. There's a ton of unadapted western literature out there waiting to brought to the screen...as well as original scripts which have yet to be picked up.

Something tells me this project is never gonna shake out; we'll see...

Why did the recent news about Ted Eliot and Terry Rossio (Pirates of the Caribbean) doing the Lone Ranger flick not make it here, I wonder?

    This movie can't be made

    by johnnyangel

The story is that a sheriff sees a threat that the rest of the community wants to avoid. The sheriff, denied the support of his community by cowards and nay-sayers, bravely fights alone. The subtext would be W fighting the terrorists. Obviously this movie cannot be made at this time.

but regardless, IS NOTHING SACRED IN HOLLYWOOD? This isn't a cheesy B-movie that needs an update. It is one of the greatest films ever made! DAMN YOU HOLLYWOOD. Creativity is dead.

Its already been remade along with a sequel!

    by uncapie

Micahel Madsen played Frank Miller in the 2000 remake for tv. Before that, Lee Majors was in the sequel in Gary Cooper's part! Where the hell's the originality anymore?

There was an homage to the original in an episode of "Head of the Class" where Arvid faces a challenge from a bully.

    2000 remake

    by shakes

yeah, Uncapie, I'm surprised no one mentioned that a lot sooner. That's only 7 years old. sure it was a tv movie, the the simplicity of that story doesn't require a huge budget
