Quint puts the call out for his annual Holiday Shopping Guide!!!

Published at:  Nov 03, 2007 10:24:04 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. It’s that time of year again. You long time readers of the site might have noticed that I gather up a shit-ton of Holiday Shopping suggestions every November. From books to video games to DVDs to music to gadgets and technology to art I’ll compile a giant list of those things heavy in geek interest.

Click here to take a look at last year’s Guide!!!

I spend my year keeping an eye out for cool stuff, but I always find, year after year, that the best stuff in the Guide comes from reader suggestions. So, I’m calling out for you to drop me an email (quint AT aintitcool.com) with any suggestions.

If you have a product that you think is that badass, drop me a line as well. Consideration has officially begun, so just drop me an email and let me know what you got.

Be it from reader or company PR person, I’m looking for suggestions on anything that's just plain cool. It could be affordable for everybody or exclusively for the super rich only, I want to hear it all. Half the fun of the article is the window shopping, so the sky’s the limit.

Feel free to the use talkbacks as well, but email will be easier for me to comb through.

Let me know what you want in the guide this year and hopefully you’ll see it pop up in the Guide, to be published here before Black Friday. I have a ton of ideas already, but like I said… the input from you readers is what makes the Guide special. I can’t wait to see what comes up!

-Quint

Classic text, a must read for anyone who never read it (it's the only graphic novel to make Time Magazine's list of 100 best novels ever written in the English language) and well worth reading over again for those who haven't in some time. It is so packed with subtlety that one read can't do it justice. Plus, the movie is in production now, and it's a cheap gift any geek will love!

    Osamu Tezuka's "MW"

    by prof_ender

Tezuka is the God of Manga, and this book shows why. Hell, not even Alan Moore could hold up to this story.

Vertical released it last week. It retails for 25 bucks, it's a one volume work, and it's hardcover. So it's affordable, a damn good story, and it looks great on anyone's bookshelf.

And Vol. 1 for that matter. You can get them near cost on ebay. I know people worship that Watchmen, and I do love it myself. I would like the Bladerunner DVD set, thank you very much, but of course, to really get the most out of it, I would like a new 42" flatscreen to watch it on, and a pair of leather club chairs (in a nice deep saddle-leather) to sit in, and a bottle of Giacomo Conterno 1997 Barolo to sip on while viewing. Thank you. PS, I would settle for the simple Barolo, it doesn't have to be the Monfortino or anything)

  • it's also the "traditional" time where everyone starts their christmas shopping. along with it is a shitload of early bird specials and a bunch of markdowns from past seasons. another way to put it is this: black friday is explained to "non-believers" is many terms as explainable as possible. many retailers open very early typically 5 or 6 in the morning and offer "doorbusters" deals and loss leaders to draw people to their stores. although black friday, as the first shopping day after turkey day, has served as the unofficial start of the xmas season at least since the start of the modern macy's thanksgiving day parade in 1924, the term "black friday" has been traced back only to the 1970's. "black friday" was originally so named because of the heavy traffic on that day, although most comtemporary uses of the term refer instead to it as the start of the period in which retailers are in the black. black friday is frequently but erroneously referred to in the media as the biggest retail shopping day of the year. while it has been one of the biggest days in terms of customer traffic, in terms of actual sales volume black friday is the 5th-10th biggest day. there. hope it helps.
