BLADE RUNNER: FINAL CUT To Screen In A Few Theaters After All!! Are You In One Of The Lucky Cities??
Merrick here...
This information was in a pile of stuff that was waiting to be posted throughout the last week or so. Problem is: we've been having irritating server issues over the last week or so...and posting was frequently a challenge, if not impossible. So, sorry this is a tad late...but...it's not too late for most folks.
BLADE RUNNER: FINAL CUT will be hitting theaters in a few select cities - both before the film's December release on DVD, and after. In some instances the film will be projected digitally - although non-digital prints are also in circulation.
Here is a list of cities where FINAL CUT is known to be showing. This list could feasibly expand or alter, so keep an eye out in your area for engagements.
By the way, this list comes from Bill Hunt over at thedigitalbits - so kudos to Bill for the legwork & getting this out there.

Those aren't accurate. It's playing in Houston THIS WEEKEND.
by nordling
In digital projection, too. I'm going tomorrow.
-
Come on, Phoenix has a bigger sci-fi audience than Nashville, and we have several big digital theatres. I don't get it.
-
Uptown Theater, Connecticut Ave.
-
if they release this again in 10 years can we file a class action suit against Scott?
-
WRITERS TO WALK MONDAY - BITCHES!
-
It's been playing here since last week.
-
THANKFULLY someone @ aicn shows some love to houston...especially after I ripped about the batman site ignoring the fourth largest city in the country earlier this week in their assignment of on-location pictures.in any case, Nordling, please advise where in houston is the movie playing? and in digital yet?speaking of the list being in accurate, I'm not surprised houston isn't listed. we ALWAYS get the shaft! especially on this site too. considering harry and some of the crew live in austin and EVERYONE in austin HATES houston, it really makes sense why we always get ignored. you know, if you look at all the times harry posts about something happening at the austin original alamo draft house location, you might have noticed how NOTHING is EVER mentioned about the three draft house locations in houston and what they're up to. I wonder why? do they not do cool stuff? prolly not, considering only cool stuff happens in austin and every austinite will confirm that...cue black background / white text post please..........
-
AMC Studio 30.
-
and digitally projected.
-
well, I was going to say that it's been playing here for a while, but the list was updated...so, um. nevermind.
-
https://www.movietickets.com/purchase.asp?perf_id=477322987
-
in Houston, for only $5. You simply can't beat that.
-
Wow. I am so lucky. Now I CAN'T go in Seattle. Geigh.
-
My mother? Let me tell you about my mother.
-
I can't tell you how many years I've tried to find someone on here who's from houston. only took five years! hey is that studio 30 at deerbrook mall?
-
It's also playing at the AMC South Barrington 30 for those in the Chicago area.
-
This would be spectacular in 70mm.
-
Why is LA left off the list??
-
Hey, Russman... It was just in LA. Where have you been? It looked amazing with the digital projection. We commented after the film that it looked like it was made this year. Some people were sure some was added CG. Nope... all original old fashioned optical models.
-
AMC Studio 30 is at Westheimer and Dunvale.
-
but you'll notice it's not going to a shitty Carmike or Regal, it's going to be playing at a most excellent indie theatre - the Belcourt - Belcourt.Org - Beer & a midnight screening of Blade Runner on Jan 4th & 5th sounds like a fine time indeed.
-
It's been playing in LA and NYC for a while now - the list makers probably assumed this was already known as it was highly publicized.
-
what happened to the star wars tv show talkback from last week? it completely disappeared?also, if the la/nyc locales have been playing for awhile, and the list makers probably assumed this was already known as it was highly publicized, how come houston was left off?okay it's actually three questions: do you live in austin? if so, please stop hating on houston and show us some love for once! PUH-LEEZE!
-
uh but wait a minute, studio 30 @ dunvale? oh man not my theater of choice! last movie I saw there was american pie...the first one.BUT for Decker I just might make a rare appearance...but if it's in the daylight the parking lot should be pretty safe!
-
...then it opens at the Tyneside Cinema (currently in Gatesehead whilst its Newcastle cinema gets revamped) from 23rd November.www.tyne cine.org (no gaps).
-
I only live a couple of hours from Denver I may cut out of work early grab some buddis and make the trek to see it there...unless, I'm going there htis weekend does anyone know is it playing just Dec 7 or until Dec 7
-
Between Nov. 18-23 at the Paramount. Info here: http://www.austintheatre.org/site/Calendar/635257780?view=Detail&id=14407

I'm gonna do my best to show up October 26. Fingers crossed!
by wyld stallyns rules
-
the studios are loathe to make 70mm prints. they just don't want to put out the money. the same thing happened in the 90s when SPARTACUS was ballyhooed in it's major restoration. they said it was restored to it's Technirama glory in 70mm. then they released it across the country...in 35mm prints. but then, the teenage kids running the projectors at your local miniplex don't know what to do with 70mm.
saw BLADE here at the CINERAMA in Seattle. good show. great theatre. stretched 35mm print. coulda been a much better experience. -
we NEVER get cool shit like this....count me IN!
-
where's the love?
-
according to their website the Landmark in Greenwood Village where DR:TFC is scheduled to play is paning on opening that day (Dec. 7) so that might make this even more fun and interesting to see
-
Seems like that anyways. First we're denied BSG: Razor, now no BR: Final Cut. You'd think having 40,000 geeks converge on Dragon Con every year would be proof sci-fi fans exist here, but it's obviously not. :(
-
Maybe it was so I'd be able to see Blade Runner in a theater sans the witless voice over and fake happy ending demanded by some knee-bouncing studio glorp.
-
Great Scott!!! Why No Canada?!!!!!! My dreams have been shattered to quarks!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
-
I'm just wondering what goes on inside the mind of distribution execs. "Gee, Nashville is a shoo-in for sci-films, by golly let's release it there where we'll get all of 20 people to show up. Yeah! Gonna rock!" CINE CAPRI in Phoenix is where they should be showing this, you folks in the know will agree. But noooo.
-
It moved to the AMC Empire 25 off Times Square a few weeks ago and has been playing there ever since.
And the Ziegfield is advertising midnight shows of THE FINAL CUT for this (current) Friday and Saturday - I have no idea if they are really happening. -
Damn! I just missed BOTH local showings in my region. Now I'll have to drive to Philly or Durham. Meh.
-
AMC 30 in Houston, five minutes from my place.
-
Nov 03, 2007 12:07:22 AM CDT
Is it playing anywhere other than backwards redneck america?
by orionsangels
Apparently the most important cities, LA, NY, Chicago, Miami all ignored. Let's go to 13th century Austin
-
The cut's been playing in NY and LA for awhile, and Chicago's getting the movie too. As for Austin, there's an audience here for about every movie. That is to say: fuck off.
-
Ah, living in CA does have its perks when it comes to film screenings! But, I think I'll wait for the DVD box-set. (although, to see it at the Castro...ooh!)
-
Mamma Mia! You are one spicy Douche Bag!
-
I already e-mailed Merrick to see if the early Boston date can be changed on the site, but just in case, I'll post here, too. I live close to the Coolidge Corner theater and called them to double check the date. Their website said Nov 16th, which conflicted with what I've seen here and elsewhere. The phone call confirmed the date on the website. Nov 16th, not the 9th.
Incidentally, I guess Orionsangel has a very, very specific idea of what "important" cities are that doesn't include Boston somehow??? -
Gotta love dat!
-
Nov 03, 2007 1:08:18 AM CDT
Plays for a week in Nashville & with midnight screenings...
by wraith777
And it's not about "distribution exec", it's about having a good indie theatre and a good program director who can secure the film..."20 people for sci-fi in Nashville", Ha ha ha...we'll be thinkin' about you when we're watching it on the big screen and you're still waiting on your Netflix queue
-
They have it listed in the Baltimore Sun as coming soon.
-
Sorry.
-
I never doubted you for a second, you beautiful city. I'm there.
-
Laaaaame. At least we got Poltergeist, in its fuckin full-screen bullshit ratio. srhgwy4w5yt3q4t34wtg3a4
-
they are showing it over 2 weekends in HD digital. So that's 6 screenings in 1 city. Fuckers.
-
Wasn't there a book to this thing or a graphic novel?
-
Yeah, don't include the greatest city in the world on it.
-
why cant this get a re-release. would love to see it on the big screen
-
...listen, just because it isn't coming to your town doesn't give you any reason to bash us. Like wraith said, we'll have a good time, and there WILL be a turnout. I am freakin' excited!
-
This is bullshit. BULLSHIT.
-
to see it in NYC, believe me. Why no Washington DC venue baffles me. Screw B'more - its more of a hassle getting there than driving to NY.
-
Guess I'll drive to DC to catch it again after all.
-
And behold, it was glorious.
-
Hey all...I don't know if there are any KC/Topeka/Lawrence people on here, but the Student Union Activities organization at KU is going to be doing a free screening of the Final Cut at midnight on Friday, November 9. There'll be free popcorn and Coke, too...so it should be a good time. If there are any locals who want to see it on the big screen, here's the chance.
-
I should have actually posted where it will be...the free midnight screening of Blade Runner: The Final Cut will be at Woodruff Auditorium on the 5th floor of the Kansas Union on Friday, November 9. Any questions can be directed to suafilms@gmail.com. Thanks!
-
Films over the next couple months. You all missed Top Gun, but upcoming is Tron, GHostbusters, 2001, Titanic and Lawrence of Arabia. As an LA transplant it is the only theater that comes close around here to the LA theaters that I grew to love.
-
Damn those studio execs! How dare they!
-
Go here for the somewhat incomplete info but a kick-ass official site!!!
http://bladerunnerthemovie.warnerbros.com/ -
I was so excited that Columbus actually got something cool that I didn't realize that we have to wait until February to get it. Columbus blows.
-
Hey Merrick you left out the AMC 30 on Westheimer and Dunvale in Houston. Just saw it there in DLP last night and it looked GORGEOUS! Too bad the Galaxy 10 in Austin isn't running it. Damn shame.
-
Sorry, someone already addressed that, go easy it's my first day.
-
that sounds like it would be a fun screening unfourtantly I'm clear on the other side of the state and Denver is closer to me, that and I've already made plans to go to Denver that weekend. It's good to know Kansas has some representation beyond me here
-
I can't believe Ridley Scott changed the line "I want more life fucker!" to "I want more life Father". What is this "Blade Runner: The Disney Cut". What was he thinking?!
-
Salt Lake, Baltimore, Minneapolis, Nashville, Durham and Columbus.... AND NO ATLANTA???!!!! No Orlando, Miami, Tampa, New Orleans or Birmingham? When you decide you're only going to screen this film in two cities in the southeast and the two they come up with are Nashville and Durham, you're obviously dealing with f***ing morons. Considering all the smaller cities getting notice, the people releasing this have made it painfully clear they have something against Atlanta, as well as a lot of other cities in the south. Someone's mommy or daddy must live there.
-
The Senator has been rumored to acquire a 35mm print of the Final Cut after Landmark runs it digitally.
-
Are you really taking the man and the cut to task for that line change? Are you a Kevin Smith fanboy or something? It's one word. Get over it.
-
Let's face it "I want more life FUCKER" is a perfect line for the rage of someone who has been given a 4 year life span. "I want more life father" just doesn't cut it. I can't believe I am the only one ticked off about one of the best lines in the movie being changed. It was a totally gutless move on Scott's part. There was absolutely no reason to do it.
-
Title
-
I hope I don't get shot when I go to see the movie. Or raped by a lacross team.... ZING!
Why not just show the film in Raleigh? Ya know... the capital of the state, which has a larger population... ?? Ah well, at least it's coming. -
Showing at The Astor from 15 - 18 November. 7pm Thursday. 8pm Friday. 5pm & 8pm Saturday. 2pm, 5pm and 8pm Sunday. 4K HD-Digital presentation.
-
You have to see this digitally if you get the chance. It's like an entirely new movie. Fuck CGI. Gimme modelwork back.
-
You guys would probaly be happy with a new "Gone with the Wind:Final Cut" where Clark Gable says "Frankly my dear, I don't give a hoot".
-
Saw it in SLC digitally projected. Looks pretty good, you can see the digital-ness in the titles. And the blacks seem a little high, but can't compare it directly.
-
the paramount isn't taking pre-orders. isn't that just great for us out-of-towners.
come on harry... set something for us up so that we can get in. I just can't see driving 100 miles to not get in and then 100 miles back. THAT would royaly piss me off. -
Or did this article come out earlier than 10/26?
-
I don't know why thee ATL isn't on that list but it just started Friday at the AMC Barrett Commons 24 in Kennesaw. Anyways saw it last night and was in film heaven! :)
-
Before ranting here, check out the "now playing" section of your local newspaper. That will confirm whether or not this film is playing in a theater near you.
-
no need to look for Waco, Tx being on the list... nor will it be in Lorena, Temple, Bryan, Salado, or Round Rock. you want I should list the towns going 100 miles north that won't have it?Two weeks ago i had to drive to Dallas for Nightmare Before Christmas in 3D.
-
oh jeez... i forgot to list Georgetown before Round Rock. Even I skip over Georgetown and they've got a cave and a candle factory for God's sake!
-
Why do people think that this film cant be narrated AND dark at the same time? Obviously it worked when it first came out...hence..people loving this movie still!
-
It is showing at a theatre on Granville St. This is great news!
-
Of course "the teenage kids running the projectors at your local multiplex don't know what to do with 70mm" sinc all mainstream theaters use 35mm projectors. It's not a little switched to change from 35mm to 70 mm, and it's not even a simple lens change (like from scope to flat). It's an entirly different projection system, the same way there are seperate 8mm and 16mm projectors. What next, asking for films projected in Cinerama without realizing that means three projectors screening on three screens simultaniously?
-
First of all, anybody comparing this line change to Gredo is missing the point. Gredo shooting first changes the nature of the Han Solo character entirely. Han shooting first demonstrates a LOT more about the character. AND it's the first time we see him in the film, so it's the establishment of the character. Batty has been seen plenty of times before the "I want more life" line in Blade Runner. To say nothing of the fact that "father" is more to the point of Batty's moral dilemma. It's not just some "fucker" that he's about to kill, it's his father. I like the line either way and would be perfectly happy with "fucker", but to imply that the change in any way diminishes the scene or the film is silliness. It's fine. It works in a totally different and equally valid way.

Montreal has one of the top 5 digital theaters in the world...
by utamoh
...and we're not going to see it here. Sucks. I'm calling Ridley himself and asking him why.
-
For those who are thinking that "Hey, there's no Landmark theatre by that name..." Let me be the first to say wow - an art house theatre in Denver that won't (hopefully) suck! From Landmark's Website: The Landmark Greenwood Village opens on December 7. 5415 Landmark Place, Greenwood Village, CO 80121
The Ultimate Cinema Experience
6 New Screens • Valet Parking • Stadium Seating • Upscale Bar
Popcorn and Fountain Drinks Included In Ticket Price. -
What a great way to retro-fit a 25 year old movie. He only fixed the parts of the movie with serious continuity issues. This is a way that a classic should be "fixed". Using subtlety and a light hand, unlike the complete radical change of atmosphere we got with Lucas ala "the LooneyTunes" Star Wars spaceport.
I still wish Roy Batty had called Tyrell Fucker instead of Father, because it gave the line more menace. But on the whole, who cares? -
I am not trying to be a smart ass or anything, but it was one of my favorite lines in the movie and it did seem important in the context of the film. I had no problem with any other changes in the film and I guess the film is as perfect as it is ever going to be which makes it even more annoying that he went with a stupid alteration which I think hurt the film. I guess I'll just have to stick with the director's cut over the final cut. I did hear a few groans in the audience when they heard the new line, so I am not the only person bothered by it.
-
Dude, Jeffallee, I'd love to see your point if you actually backed it up! How did choosing "father" over "fucker" change the film for the worse? It changed that scene, I will agree, but it's a tiny, dare I say almost insignificant change. How is it important in the context of the film? Especially when it's not like it was subbed with "furniture" or "rubber duckie". Father works just as well if not better than fucker. If you disagree, fine, but could you please back it up? I see Flossygomez' point that it's more menacing, but it's not SOOO menacing that it changes the face of the character or the film.
-
I'm sure this list is woefully short. It's screening at the Nuart Theater in L.A.
-
The Landmark, NOT the Nuart.
-
first time ever on the big screen. So interesting. I definitely dig this cut. Just for the mere fact that they cleaned up Joanna Cassidy's death scene so well and seamlessly, instead of that awful drag queen in a wig stunt guy stuff. It's been a few years since I've seen it, but I had forgotten how freakin' brilliant Rutger Hauer is, how good Harrison Ford is at getting the crap beat out of him, how Olmos was the 80s version of Leguizamo, how hot Joanna Cassidy, Daryl Hannah and Sean Young used to be, how dark the film is, how shocking the violence still is, and how well it holds up. Looking through today's eyes, I didn't realize how misogynist it is. Leon gets a quick death, Roy gets a noble, beautiful death. But the two female replicants? Long, drawn out, overly violent and torturous deaths. And the seduction scene with Harrison Ford and Sean Young. Maybe it was supposed to be read as sexy at the time ("tell me to kiss you") but it plays like a rape scene now. Knowing Harrison Ford's notorious attitudes towards women and Ridley Scott's own issues around that, it's hard not to read that scene a certain way. Still, a fascinating film and a nice lense into how different films were then. I especially noticed the vast differences in pacing, dialogue, visual cues, etc. Can't wait to get the DVD now.
-
Ugh. I've seen it a couple of times since the 80's and it's just not a great movie when it comes down to it.
-
I think the misogyny was probably more a result of the mood that the film was attempting to invoke. All the women in the film are potential femme fatales, so it makes sense for them to be dealt with in a more aggressive manner. Not saying it's right, just saying that I think it has less to do with the filmmaker and actor's attitudes and more with the genre.
