You've seen the stills now see 'em move in the WANTED trailer!

Published at:  Oct 30, 2007 9:33:09 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. WANTED's all over the net this week. First the stills now the trailer. I like the look of the trailer, but the early word we've been hearing about the film is it does not share much in common with Mark Millar's original graphic novel. If it's fun, then I guess that's all that matters... Here's the trailer:

I really hate that the core concept of the comic book was abandoned. The screenwriters of this movie admitted that they wrote this thing before the all of the issues of the comic had even been released, and before they realized the entire premise of the comic...So it's obviously going to be different from the comic. But I'll give this movie a chance, for now, as mark millar has had nothing but good things to say about it. So who knows.

sorry, i don't mean to be one of those assholes who can't wrap his head around someone enjoying something he did not. but every page of that series was dripping with disdain for the past 70 years of comics and the people reading them. good for Mark Millar for tricking hollywood into making a movie out of one of his books (he admitted as much when he started the rumor himself that Eminem was interested in being in it, after instructing JG Jones to use his likeness). but i really don't get where the reverance i'm seeing for that book is coming from.

right on the head. The book has no subtext. It's for people who think FIGHT CLUB is a cool action movie about guys who beat each other up for therapy. Millar is a clumsy controversialist, period. From Wiki

    by staticneuron

"Comic book author Mark Millar described the first half of the film as being close to the graphic novel. Millar also said that the film's ending was similar, though it was relocated elsewhere from the setting in the graphic novel. The superhero costumes in the graphic novel were also removed, with the exception of the leather attire worn by Wesley Gibson and The Fox. The story arc of the Fates issuing death orders in line with the novel's original theme of predestination was a new element to the film, an addition to which Millar was amicable.[18]

Wanted will include free running and parkour in addition to car chases and gunfights.[7] Wanted creator Mark Millar saw previsualized footage for the film and said the footage had raised his expectations for the film adaptation."

If Miller doesn't completely write it off then maybe there is something interesting about it.

I mean was anyone else listening to that, "the best assassin in the world is standing right behind you," give me a fucking break. Not to mention the stunts look cheap as hell. I'm not surprised either. Just look at the cast, this is obviously something that was conceptualized and green lit just to make money. Movies that are written under lose kind of circumstances always fail miserably and this will obviously be no exception. I am however anxious to see DAYWATCH cuz I didnt catch it yet, but I have no high expectations for this russian guy, not as a commercial director anyway. Especially if he's gonna take on every shitty project that gets thrown at him. Don't get caught up in the excitement man, just take it easy and pick 'em wisely

    by nickmarks666

    SCREW YOU HOLLYWOOD!! SCREW YOU!!!

I never post on talk backs...I don't even read them hardly twice a year. I NEED TO SAY THIS>>>>>WRITERS, DIRECTORS, PRODUCERS OF WANTED!!! YOU SUCK!!!!!!!!!

The 5 issue mini series of Wanted is one of the best mini series since Watchmen. It is a masterpiece. Every frame of it. Every word of it.

Why must you change crap? Catwoman? League of Gentlemen, etc. All great source material...but you make it gay.

Where is shit head? Where is Rictus? The midget? The gay sex? The cool kitten ears? The sets? The art direction? The Superhero's, The villians? Where is the lighting and mood of the comic? Where is the dialogue? Why did you make it so gay? So hollywood? So average? WHY WHY WHY?

I don't normally give a shit... But when someone has taken a great piece of a literature....something special and fuxx it, rapes it, dumps on it and turns it into something like i just saw. Something so diffrent? Such shit....i weep. Just because I know I have to wait 20 more years before someone will blow off the dust and do it right.

Why is Frank Miller the only one guy in hollywod you treat right? Thank you Mr. Rodriguez....seriously dude. YOu got it. You did it. But they still won't learn. 300 and Sin City are some of the best comic movies of the past few years? Frank is great....but he is not god. People just don't fuxx with his work. They treat the comic as it should be....a storyboard...a script...to be treated literally. They leave Frank alone. WHY didn't you pay that same respect to Millar and his artist ( forgot name...sorry guy...you are great too ) His art should have been copied frame for frame. But even th ough...300 proved you could still mess with it a bit...300 adapted a bit...it still worked...stayed close to art direction...pacing....dialogue....added a few scenes but kept it all intact. it still worked.

I am so pissed with what i just saw. I know making a movie is hard. I know there are tons of issues to deal with. Problems...budget...compromises...Well okay...granted....well...the only analogy i can use is that you have this hot chic...she is the most kind loving wonderful person you have ever met....great DNA...she loves you...you marry her....have sex with her she gets pregant...everyone is happy....you tell the world....but then you start feeding her cocaine....beating her belly....throwing her down stairs....sticking a coat hangar in her twat....2girls1cupin her....and bam....OUT COMES A FUCKTARD BABY THAT WE ALL HAVE TO DEAL WITH FOR THE REST OF OUR LIVES. IT IS STUPID. LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THE MOM AND DAD. SHITS IT'SELF AND THEN GROWS UP TO PROBABLY KILL SOMEONE LIKE SLING BLADE

I HATE YOU SO VERY MUCH. PLEASE FEEL MY HATE FOR YOU!

Definitely check out the comic book. At least thumb through the first chapter at the bookstore or comic shop. It's not perfect IMO, but it was interesting and tried to do something different with comics. The movie looks very different -- very Hollywoodized with "assassins" trying to "provide stability" as opposed to just amoral supervillians fucking with the status quo. It wanted to be FIght Club, but ended up falling short by trading philosophy for a gang war. It's entertaining, but it's a bummer the movie seems to not have made good on the comic's failings.

On the subject of British comic book writers

    by mrmajestic

I'm an ex comic book fanboy from way back in the day and I must admit that although all those cool British writers think up of some cool premises, their conclusions always suck balls or are at the very least anti-climactic. Of course I don't include Alan Moore in that bunch, he's more a deity than a Brit anyhow. But guys like Morrison, Gaiman, Ennis, Ellis, Millar, Jenkins, Newman et al always let me down with a weak ass ending to bad ass stories. British comics writers equal great foreplay, blistering intercourse but no moneyshot.

There's too much compromising and changes on the story, plot, characters, on top of that no costumes--? Not interested. Heard that Morgan Freeman was not all that impresse and was quoted saying that J.MacAvoy "was trying too hard" and "overacting" and avoided talking about Angie when questions were asked about working with her. It's clear by looking at this trailer, he did not enjoy himself at all. And poor Common, looking clueless. Though he was good in Smoking Ace, he looked bored. This is not going to work.

Would be hard NOT to make this better than the comics

    by gilest

Millar's "Wanted" read like an angry adolescent's cathartic revenge fantasy against a world where everyone treated him like an inconsequential whiny little prick, and he couldn't get laid. The whole premise was essentially - "wouldn't it be cool if you could rape and murder anyone you wanted without recourse?".

    Er, no.

Any idiot that draws positive parallels between the source material and Fight Club (and many do), simply didn't *get* Fight Club.

    WANTED In Name Only

    by spyguy

This looks like a great action flick, but if truth-in-advertising laws could apply, this film would be called WANTED'S PREMISE. If this film does well, though, we should expect a lot of studios to start cutting even more superhero aspects out of superhero films. GEN13, IMMORTAL IRON FIST and BLACK SUMMER are a few titles that could easily be hacked away into action movies.

lets list the comics that SHOULD be made

    by pviii

    we3
    Ex Machina
    Y: The Last Man

I think any of these would clean up (just change the Y ending, because it sucked)

    Erector Set movie making ...

    by cowboyone

Hmm, I was sure that was miscast, but now that we see the "story" it looks like that Scottish nerd is perfect. It's like "Chuck" with assassins. (And Morgan Freeman and Angelina Jolie just play their usual Miyagi Narrator and Lara Croft roles. Erector Set movie making from a graphic novel blueprint.

    I wanted supervillians goddamnit

    by lex romero

The comic wasn't perfect, and i can see why some people hated it, but the basic premise of supervillians having 'won' against superheroes was brilliant. I was really looking forward to seeing some kick fights between faux superheroes and Wesley. Ah well, might be vaguely entertaining as a just an action film.

    SO BAD

    by www.revyou.tv

It's horrible in movies when characters just spew exposition! That whole "your father was an assassin and die yesterday, look there's another assassin" intro between Jolie and McAvoy is AWFUL. Action's great, Hollywood, but dialogue's kinda important too... (But Angelina does look cool.)

looks like they destroyed and gutted it

    by gottaeat

the superhero aspect of it is GONE it seems. In the comics, the bad guys win.. and kill all the superman and batman's of the world. that's what gave it it's charm. Looks like they tossed that.... I knew it... damn!!

What the HELL was that crap?! Where is WANTED??

    by saracen1

That had NOTHING to do with the graphic novel. Jolie is wrong, as much as I love Freeman, he was wrong (and cliche). Fraternity? The Fates? WTF?

I want The Killer. I want Fucktard. I want Shithead. I want the lines "I'm the scariest superfuck that ever walked this earth" and "I don't fuck goats, Mr. Gibson, I make love to them."

The writers of this script need to learn from Mr. Zack Snyder AND NOT FUCK WITH THE SOURCE MATERIAL!

Not a big fan of the book

    by drewlicious

There was nothing remotely sympathetic about the protagonist and his whole getup was lame. I get it he can kill you with anything. So what. In this world almsot every supervillain is susceptible to bullets. No comic book universe would allow for that guy to be top dog. The whole thing was more depressing than funny. An excellent premise with a weak delivery. Wouldn't have minded seeing a movie with characters named shithead, fuckwit, and johnny two-dicks though.

So...did John Woo secretly direct this, or what?

    by nerdgasm

This looks like the kind of dorky over the top action movie that takes itself too seriously. It's one thing if you're jumping through the air like a Circ de'Solie acrobat on steroids, whilest shooting two 9mm handguns (that have the neverending clip option installed), dodging a wall of bullets, explosions, ferocious German Shepards and a sea of evil doer minions...if the movie does it all with a "wink wink" kind of attitude. You know, the "we know this is total crazy bullshit, we're just having fun" wink wink. This movie doesn't have that "wink, wink", or at least the trailer didn't. Fuck, I'd swear this was Woo, but I didn't sea any white doves.

Could you really expect it to be faithful?

    by #1 zero

There is no way Hollywood would make a faithful remake to the Wanted comic. In movies (especially studio movies) there have to be good guys and bad guys not just bad and worse guys which is what wanted was. As for how the film looked well it looked a little too pedestrian and lacking a certain eye catching style for me. Basically McCavoy goes from wearing costumed designed nerd outfit to something less nerdy but not remotely badass. The Lumes with the fate of the world that was hinted at in the trailer, is such a departure from the book that I don't really even know what place it has in any movie. And the second best assassin looked vaguely like Daniel Craig, especially when Angelina Jolie was shooting at him while he was in the train. Like the one talkbacker said, I hope this just showed the first thirty minutes of the movie, I do too. There needs to be some bad ass costumes in this other than cargo pants and t shirts. And by the way, that gun that shoots around a corner is actually a real invention, not just something made up for the movie.

    And another thing

    by #1 zero

I had high hopes for this film whether it was faithful or not to the book. I want to see more before I make my decision if it is good bad or worth ten dollars on a weekend. I think this comes out in March so I'm expecting one or two more trailers where we see more. Then I can judge it better.

    Now what would interest me?

    by #1 zero

If Angelina Jolie becomes McCavoy's sex tutor like her character does in the book. Will that really happen? If it does I foresee it being implied and nothing overt and probably no nudity. I'm calling that right now and we will see if it comes to pass.
