WEDDING CRASHERS’ Dobkin To Direct DC Comics' THE FLASH!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!

David Dobkin, director of the excellent “Clay Pigeons,” as well as “Shanghai Knights,” “The Wedding Crashers” and “Fred Claus,” will direct the big-screen adaptation of DC Comics’ “The Flash.”
It will deal with the Wally West version of the Scarlet Speedster, said also to be a key element of George Miller’s coming “Justice League”
movie. Adam Brody, 28, who played comic-book geek Seth Cohen on "The O.C.," is said to be in contention for the West role in "League."
The 1990 "Flash" TV series dealt with West's predecessor, Barry Allen, also said to be featured in Miller's movie.
Shawn Levy (“Big Fat Liar,” “Just Married,” “Cheaper By The Dozen,” “The Pink Panther,” “Night at the Museum”) has left the "Flash" project.

Flash (presumably the Wally West version) coincidentally co-stars in next Saturday's new episode of "The Batman."

He's funny, but does it need some mediocre comedy director at the helm? Where the fuck are the visuals going to come from?
-
fuck fuck fuck
-
Flash isn't "Watchmen" or "Maus," but it would be a goddamn shame to see it degenerate into a comedy. It's fun to be the Flash, I'm sure, and emphasizing that would make a great movie. But it's not FUNNY to be the Flash. Seriously, like 90% of Flash characters die in some way or another...there is a little drama throughout Flash history.
-
Why, Hollywood, WHY? And Fred Clause just looks absolutely dreadful. Everything Elf could have been but thankfully rose above.
-
Yep.
-
Miller's JLA one or Dobkin's?
The race is on!
-
I'm seriously not in the mood for another comic book character raping by some hack director.
-
I guess.
-
i'd honestly forgotten shawn levy was previously attached so when i heard this i went "fuck, the flash movie is gonna suck now", but i guess that was already decided on. do any of us think JLA is going to do well enough to warrant spin-offs anyway? which begs a bigger question: if so many franchises depend on JLA being successful, wouldn't you think WB would be making a greater effort to make a quality film of that one rather than go for the quick cash-grab?
-
Come on Brother I know you are holding out!!!
Is he in or isn't he???

takin' bets on the death of superhero movies. i say 2 years
by bmacsmith
and thats it. the market is flooded. it'll go the way of westerns soon.
-
I agree BMacSmith, they will die soon, sadly.
I wish someone could make a good t.v. show out of one concept. I mean, Smallville, for all its faults, isn't terrible.
I would love an Ultimate Spiderman t.v. show, or, the Bruce Wayne pilot that was never shot.
sigh. -
This will be the biggest pile of crap
-
as long as there's enough good ones to make studios want to continue making them. Marvel's movies started sucking but DC came in strong with Batman Begins. now DC is going down the tubes, but Marvel seems to be getting their act together with Iron Man and their in-house production company. and let's not forget movies like Sin City and 300 which have demonstrated that there's lots of money to be made mining comics for stories. when we see a year where there are 3 $100 million comic movies and all 3 bomb, then i'd start worrying.
-
The WB's explanation for not using Routh and Bale in "Justice League" is that their franchises exist outside the "Justice League" movie universe. So it makes absolutely no sense that the Flash film franchise will exist within the "Justice League" universe. It seems like the WB is coming up with convenient justifications any time criticism over the "Justice League" production is thrown their way.
-
Spider-man 3. imagine how much it would've made if it were any good....
-
I like Adam Brody but he's a total wuss in everything he does. Plus isn't he the same non-confident, feminine male in all his roles. Please tell me he is not the Flash.....why does DC do this?? Don't they see why Marvel is doing so well at the Box-Office?? I just don't get why they always want to commit theatre suicide with their characters. Their animated stuff is AWESOME....and thats thanks to Bruce Timm....I just don't get their philosophy.
-
not superheroes per se, but studio execs would lump them in with that genre
-
Just a thought...live-action? I can't see it working. Animated or CGI? Maybe...
-
As long as Brad Bird directed
-
that mo-cap rumor that was since debunked would've solved all of this. it would have made a clear separation in the film franchises, made it easier to swallow new faces in familiar roles, brought the budget down to a figure that didn't require Star Wars-size box office, and it would have taken much of the pressure off the film in regards to spin-offs. you could use it to gauge interest in characters without risking killing future solo films if it didn't work.
-
I think David Dobkin has talent. WEDDING CRASHERS is not only funny as hell but it's well made, I particularly like his use of long lenses. Although, FRED CLAUS does look unbelievably bad.
-
I think this is the best choice. He has the look, the attitude, and the desire to be good in this.
-
I love the character ... and this director inspires nothing. Middle of the road ... meh.
-
of The Flash?
Talk about saturation point!
Two Batmen, two Supermen and now two Flashes. Oh and what about a Cronenberg/Mortensen "Wonder Woman" spin-off followed by a $250million Michael Bay sequel starring Seth Rogen and Evan Goldberg.
I should work for Warner Brothers... -
Sure it would be great if Neal LaBute or Soderbergh or some other auteur decided to direct a comic book movie. But to me the #1 priority is the script. Then the casting. then the director.
-
and the director is shitty, then you have a shitty movie. A good director can elevate a shitty script, not the other way around my friend.
-
I second that... Physically he totally fits the character...

Why is it so hard for Warner to get DC comics movies produced?
by robert_g_durant
In recent years, Marvel has manage to launch Blade 1-3, Fantastic 4 1-2, Spider-Man 1-3, Iron Man, Hulk 1-2, Punisher and Ghost Rider.
Meanwhile Warner Brothers has given us one Batman movie and one Superman movie.
What is going on?! By the time they get around to launching any of their untouched major DC Comics franchises, superhero movies will be completely passe once more (if they aren't already).
I'm all for either the Ryan Reynolds Flash movie, or a new Flash series that kills off John Wesley Shipp's Flash in the two hour opener and continues with the Wally West Flash.
Warner, start cranking out those DC movies, 2 new franchise launches per year, so that in two to three years we can get started on a proper Justice League movie. -
let the marvelization of DC's Movies begin...a few years ago I would have thought that was a good thing. But NOW...I fear we are going to get a bunch of FF style adaptations of our beloved characters...these are Icons, and they are being rushed through...not a good sign...The Flash is a light hearted character..but I don't think that means the movie has to be directed by a "comedic" director.
-
no concern and such concern.
-
According to sph. GL coming soon from some tv writers and a director i never heard of.

Damn enter button doubletapped on me
-
Is there no great director out there who read Flash comics as a kid and wans tyo bring a great first version to the big screen? Come on!
-
This could be a decent movie, about a guy who runs really fast.
-
I think not.
-
Can I get a scotch on the rocks, and a bullet in the face? Please?
-
You forgot Daredevil, Electra and X-men. How could you forget X-men, dude?
-
It still sounds like it's going to be some sort of kids movie.
-
i'm glad its wally. it better not be a comedy. and it'd better not suck. DC please get your fucking act together. how the hell are you going to do a justice leaguer ensemble movie and then bring orgins stories out of charcters after they';ve already been introduced??
-
So, we get 90 minutes of running fast and vibrating through walls?
-
So now WB is already setting up solo franchises for the rest of the JL ready to roll out as soon as Miller's film is done. Sounds like they're laying the groundwork for a cinematic DC universe. So why the hell would they have two other separate pocket universes for Superman and Batman? If GL, Flash and WW are all getting their own movies then wouldn't the "JL only" Superman and Batman kinda be one-off chumps like Coy and Vance, the fake replacement Dukes of Hazzard that only lasted one season? That would be kinda assinine...right?... Of course, it would...."SHUT IT, COMEDIAN! I WANT BRUCE CAMPBELL TO PLAY A SMILEY HAPPY-GO-LUCKY BATMAN BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT I REMEMBER FROM SUPERFRIENDS OR POWERS BOOTH OR KURT RUSSELL TO PLAY A 60 YEAR OLD BATMAN IN A FRANCHISE WITH A BUNCH OF 20 SOMETHINGS BECAUSE THAT MAKES SOOOOO MUCH MORE SENSE." Idiots.
-
But Green Lantern and Flash's directors have to use Miller's sloppy seconds. Bullshit.
-
Phenomenal job guys.
-
is alright by me.
-
As long as it is more Incredibles and less Scooby Doo.
-
"Ummm, he just Flashed me."
-
...i've had hotter.
-
Don't know who would be good for the Flash, someone young and skinny- Doogie?
-
thank you no i can finally bash him like ive been saying in the talkbacks...uhhhh....he sucks! HAHAHAHA OWNED
-
he's allready playing flash in New Frontier the animated flick.

so we should be excited about a Flash movie directed by the wedd
by god's brother
what are we, retarded?
-
talkbacks are stupid. bye...
-
So, are we ever gonna see that shit on the big screen?
-
That was a crazy ass script.
-
$100 million opening weekend baby!
-
That was a crazy script. It would've been either great or very, very bad.
-
He's annoying. I'd rather put up with Ryan Reynolds than this.
-
...and all you can do is post pics of a cheesy SHOWCASE collection cover, a lame screenshot from THE BATMAN, and an old JUSTICE LEAGUE OF AMERICA cover. At least pretend somebody there knows something about comics...
-
DC is blowing it again. These are supposed to be hero properties with some comedy thrown in... not comedies with a hero thrown in! (and let's not even talk about JLA90210
-
Wow, David Dobkin? Really? That pretty much guarantees we won't be getting the sophisticated approach that Christopher Nolan gave (and Bryan Singer tried to give) to the DC Universe. Maybe Vince Vaughn (the star of Dobkin's FRED CLAUS) will become the fastest man alive - he already is the fastest talking man alive. ;)
-
Namor...The Sub-Mariner!
-
It's Marvel
-
I don't care. I'd rather see that crap than Adam Brody as fucking Flash. Ryan Reynolds would be the PERFECT Wally West.
-
doing a Sgt.Rock big screen extravaganza. Bulldozer, Wild Man, Ice Cream Soldier, Little Sure Shot, Long Round, Short Round. Put in Angelina Jolie as Mlle. Marie. Okay this sucks, I'm dating myself and this movie will never happen.
-
...it's hard to have faith when you've seen them turn out Catwoman, Steel and B&R... (sigh)
-
What is WB thinking? And DC? They hire a director to do a Flash spin-off from a JLA movie they haven't even started??? They hire a director known for COMEDY to helm the pic. (Uh..didn't they learn anything from Craptastic Four? What the hell is going on here? Clearly WB and DC don't give a shit about the fans or their properties. This string of news is just down right disappointing. Whatever happened to hiring the best directors to helm these movies.
