UPDATE!! AICN EXCLUSIVE!! Your First Look At The New CGI Toasters & Tonight’s GALACTICA Razorette!!

Published at:  Oct 26, 2007 1:18:56 PM CDT

SPOILER ALERT !!

UPDATE!! Our first-look window has timed out!! If you missed it, you can still catch mini-episode four tonight on SciFi or scifi.com!

Back to our original post:

I am – Hercules!!

Can’t wait till to see the fourth “Battlestar Galactica Razorette” mini-episode coming to the SciFi Channel and scifi.com tonight? You don’t have to!

SciFi and New Media Strategies have made the mini-episode available to Ain't It Cool News exclusively, effective immediately:

Spoilers on future episodes lurk in invisotext!

If you watched tonight’s mini-episode, you know that it gives us our first gander at the ‘70s-inspired toasters that play a key role in both next month’s “Battlestar Galactica: Razor” TV-movie and are said to play a mammoth role the fourth and final season of “Galactica” launching in April.

Notes on the next three mini-sodes:

There are seven mini-episodes in all. Five, six and seven are even cooler than four, all dealing with the mysterious edifice Young Husker Adama now finds himself in.

A bit of scoop here. Mini-episodes one through four aren’t part of the SciFi version of “Razor,” but the final three mini-episodes (starting next Friday) are actual scenes from “Razor.”

Or almost. The seventh and final mini-sode ends with a very short coda not found in the SciFi (or perhaps any) version of “Razor.” It stars the 40-years-older Edward James Olmos version of Bill Adama and it’s set very shortly before the start of Cylon War II. This final scene offers a VERY intriguing piece of information related to a major “Galactica” character.

"Battlestar Galactica: Razor" hits SciFi Nov. 24.

The extended, unrated edition of "Razor" hits shelves Dec. 4.

TWILIGHT ZONE: THE COMPLETE SERIES!!

$164.99!!

That works out to $33 Per Season!!
The extras-crammed Definitive Editions!!
Individual seasons cost $69.99 New; $50 used!!
They were going for close to $100/season not too long ago!

(The discount presumably celebrates the release of the “Twilight Zone” movie in HD, so don’t expect it to last ...)

So sorry to see BSG go.

    by darth sicilian

BSG is such a great show. The storylines, production value, and acting are far,far superior to other shows out there.

So... I'm sending out a big F U to the idiot executives at the SCiFi channel for not getting behind BSG and renewing it for at least 2 more years. Hey suits...how are the ratings for Flash Gordon, Painkiller Jane, and Doctor Who? Which one of these series has been ethusiastically embraced by fans and critics? Which one has won writing and special effects awards? Which one has been a top selling DVD and a top downloaded show?

Even if BSG was not the most profitable show (because of abovementioned production values)the exposure it got for the SciFi channel more than made up for it.

    by baron merlot

I don't understand all this negative talk about the April '08 date. Yes, it stinks. Yes, I wish it were out sooner. But how many times have we been given sub-par material because studios or publishers rushed product out to meet deadlines or release dates? I'd rather have a high-quality product to remember fondly for years to come than look back and wonder what it could've been if they'd taken their time. As for the complaint about ending Galactica this soon, wouldn't you rather have a show go out on top than have it drag on?

It's marketing. They've already filmed most of the first half of the season, and they're moving the start to April so the 2009 start of the second half of season 4 won't seem as far away.

    by jimmy rabbitte

This doesn't make up for screwing the fans of the show, by starting the 4th season, 4 months later than originally promised. The bottom line is, this move will hurt the show's ratings. Casual viewers of the show are just going to forget all about watching it.

I can't help but notice that the "Razor" air-date hasn't been changed. Of course not, it's scheduled to run in a sweeps month, nevermind the fact that we'll hardly remember what's happening, by the time the 4th season actually airs.

    Sci-fi channel = assholes.

    Reply to Talkback

  • By the time the first ten episodes of Season 4 end sometime in June, it will be time for Series 4 of DOCTOR WHO to begin its initial U.S. broadcast run. And then, fourteen weeks later, Sci Fi can air the last half of BSG Season 4 sometime around October. Just wait and see...

I've always preferred that studios, whether they be TV or movie, take the time to create a quality product...so we're in total agreement about that. In this case, however, it's about dollars. SciFi has built ZERO goodwill with the sci-fi fans, and I think it's finally becoming apparent to them. Once BSG is gone, SciFi will not be long for this world unless something DRASTIC changes.

    by cobbio

I actually prefer the new Cylon over the shiny 1970s Cylon. The "Husker" flashbacks require the 1970s model to enter play, which is fun and cool to see, but the newest Terminator model Cylon is way more badass. It also makes a lot more sense from a "winning the war" standpoint. It'll be cool to see the older model come into play, though.
Also, the actor playing young Bill Adama is really good. Facially he's similar, but speech and motion wise, he nails it too. Great casting.

I was thinking exactly the same thing. That the blood on adama was from the Cylon. I'm also very curious as to who's (female) hand is grasping Adama's arm from what looks like a regeneration pod in that still from the flashbacks. Roslin? Ellen? Six?

Here's an idea. All we need to do is go and find a sci-fi fan who has some Ted Turner money lying around so we can start up an alternative to the Sci Fi channel. They can get away with treating you so shitty because of an absolute lack of competition. The Space channel if Canada is in need of developing it's own programing and they are owned by the CHUM group who are some of the more open minded chance taking people you're going to find in TV anywhere.

i think the actor is well cast physically, and i think he has the mannerisms of the elder adama we all are familiar with down, but the more i see of these clips, the more i feel it's a mistake to have him so completely similar. i think it would have been better to have him have some similar mannerisms, but NOT be so curmudgeony and cold and serious all the time. i think it would be better to have him like LEE adama at this point, all hopeful and positive. i think it would be cool to see him go through stuff that MADE him the hardass we all love now.

*** SPOILER *** This razorette was too far fetched

    by desloch

WTF! Are they trying to honor the original BSG by matching its cheesiness and stupidity? BSG 1978 was great when I was 8 years old, but upon watching it as an adult, I'm embarrassed that Larson put out such garbage.

One of the things that makes the new BSG so good is that it's *usually* believable. Sure, it's just a TV show and some silliness is put in there for the sake of dramatic effect, but come on... so it's time for a vote: Which is least believable:

S4 razorette4: We have two craft colliding in opposite directions. Both pilots bail. We're really supposed to believe that they'd be close enough to not only see each other, but the cylon was able to maneuver into Adams path? And the Cylon dropped its pistol when they collided. And the atmosphere was dense enough for Adama's chute to work. And after deploying his chute, Adama somehow landed in the exact same spot as the cylon.

S3 Exodus: Loading ~35k people on a bunch of spaceships as quickly as they did is logistically impossible,

S1 E?: Starbuck is the best viper pilot, best viper trainer, and best sharp shooter in the fleet.

S1 E4: Starbuck bails out of her viper and the moon's atmosphere is thick enough for her parachute to work. And the cylon raider happened to crash within walking distance of her landing site. And she happened to walk in the exact direction to find it. And it crashed without being damaged. And cylons don't secure them from being opened unauthorized. And she was able to figure out how to open it. And the controls were laid out so a humanoid could work them. And she figured it out that quickly. And she was able to find the Galactica afterwards. I rationalized that with "Oh, raiders have an auto pilot that engage in the event that the cyclon organism stop functioning... and uh it automatically cruises in to land close to the other falling objects. And the raiders were designed so that humanoid cylons could also fly them. And they have an auto pilot to go back to the largest ship in orbit. Yeah that must've been it. I guess"

There are others and each time Moore allows something absolutely retarded to take place it takes away from the show. Meh.

    by prof. pop-cult

These minisodes make me like the idea of a BSG prequel series. Not the "Caprica" idea, but one that focuses on Young Adama. I really crave a well-written action adventure sci-fi series. Flash Gordon isn't it. And the current version of BSG is centered on character drama more (which is fine). I want another BSG series that is a fun shoot-'em-up, with old school Vipers, Basestars, Raiders and Cylon Centurians.

No way, dude. Who wants to tune it to the same ol’ boring Lucasian-style pans and tilts? Shaky cam rules. This cinema-verite style of cinematography was co-opted by BSG’s producers from archival footage of wars from last century. In my mind, the look and feel of that style of shooting lends an air of immediacy and intensity to BSG that wouldn’t exist otherwise. Not to mention the fact that we might of not fell in love with the series in the first place, if the show hadn’t at least partially re-invented itself vis-à-vis innovative direction – Bear McCreary’s Eastern flavored score is another that comes to mind. In the end, these innovations have been an integral factor in making the show a success to a new legion of fans.

If any of us Self Identify as douchebags...

    by chromedome

...then Executor apparently has a post for us to read and insert our names in if it fits...Not being a douchebag, I didn't read it. But if an actual douchebag wants to read it for the rest of us....I just realized that it is kinda fun to type "douchebag" in a TB, though....

    God this sucked

Wow, I keep coming back because I loved Galactica as a kid, and they have shown they can do the new Galactica so well.
But every time, they pull the pull the football away just like they're Lucy and me as Charlie Brown.
WTF with the in air wrestling gun fight? How did anyone think that was OK? It is just not even remotely believable. Stupid is not cool. Not until you hit Ed Wood territory. And this is too well done, from a technical stand point, to be in Ed Wood-land.
I am so done with this show.
I'll Netflix the DVDs of season 4 just to get closure
Oh and on the subject of shaky-cam. I getting over that. It was cool in Homicide. It was well done in Firefly. But now everyone is going it and it is just annoying. A little is good, BSG level is vertigo.

Oh, and to the people who said that by the time Season 4 starts we'll have forgotten Season 3, it won't matter Ron Moore will have hit is restart button by then. Every 3-4 episodes Ron likes to recon' the history of the series and try some new impossible unexplainable direction. Then in 4 episodes get bored and abandon this new direction for a newer direction.
I love when he inserts plot points into the "Previously On" section that never existed before. Just Orwellian.

    Executor...

It's not hypocrisy, I post in these threads to let Sci-Fi know why some fans of BSG won't be tuning in so that, hopefully, they won't be such boneheads with their next successful show (if they're lucky enough to even have another one). Sucks to see yet another formerly great franchise flushed down the toilet. I take it you work for the Sci-Fi channel since that's the only "us" I came close to threatening to leave. So sorry. It must really suck to be wasting your life on such mediocre bullshit...

    KillDozer....

Your spewing nonsense about some one ELSE wasting their life and here you are posting w/ the hopes of the Sci-Fi channel reading and looking woefully down at their shoes in a "we fucked up" manner. So much for claiming non-hypocrisy.

    Brian's Life...

    by killdozer

Spending 5 minutes posting in the hopes of improving my future entertainment choices is not even close to equivalent with going to a job every day to work hour after hour to help produce crap like Flash Gordon. And I'm under no delusions about my single voice affecting Sci-Fi channel programming, but if enough people take 5 minutes out of their day to say why they're pissed that BSG and its future, maybe some of those posts will be noticed and the next time a pause will be given before another bad decision is made on a future franchise.Note: I've still spent less than a half hour reading and posting about this topic. Not even the length of an episode...
