AMC Going Science Fiction With Thriller Series 99 STORIES!!

Published at:  Oct 26, 2007 6:27:32 AM CDT

I am – Hercules!!

AMC, which has entered the arena of original drama in spectacular fashion with “Mad Men” and the Emmy-winning miniseries “Broken Trail,” is now developing a science fiction series that may remind some a bit of “Lost.”

“99 Stories,” created by veteran screenwriter David Seltzer (“The Hellstrom Chroinicle,” “The Omen,” “Lucas,” “Bird on a Wire”), deals with a group of strangers who find themselves captured by a mysterious force inside a newly-constructed highrise.

From the Hollywood Reporter:

"The elevators are in control of (the strangers') destiny, whittling them out by deciding who they deem deserve to go up," Seltzer said.

And what happens in the sealed-off high rise has much larger repercussions. "What's going on there is not about the people trapped inside, it affects the rest of the world," Seltzer said.

It affects the rest of the world? Let’s hope this project moves beyond the development stage sooner rather than later! (We're still waiting for some forward motion on that proposed AMC series created by "Global Frequency" mastermind Warren Ellis).

Golly, is he hit or miss, sometimes even on the same series!

    SciFi Channel better watch out...

    by abin sur

Or AMC is gonna push them out of the sci-fi business. Man cannot live on Mansquito alone.

    The Dungeon

    by rei-ginsei

I'm not sure if anyone is familiar with Philip José Farmer - he wrote the World of Tiers series, as well as the Riverworld series (which was made into a half-assed sci-fi channel movie) - but there was another series that came out called The Dungeon series that I always thought would make a nice little TV mini-series. It's actually written by four different authors in the style of Farmer, but if anyone's interested in an old school pulp style sci-fi/fantasy/adventure story, I encourage you to find some old copies and give them a read.

Remember when AMC aired American movie classics?

Once they broadcast that piece of shit CATWOMAN movie with Halle Berry and Sharon Stone, I knew the end was near.

Watch science fiction on any channel BUT SciFi

    by chromedome

Show em there IS an audience for good science fiction, but they don't get a taste as long as throw crap like Flush Gordon, PKJ, and wrestling on the screen, while hosing over good shows like BSG.

As long as the producers don't hire their writers from the Sci-Fi channel. the dude who wrote Mansquito's gotta eat!

You don't want to watch movies on AMC

    by inwosuxred

they screw them up anyways. That crazy show with Hal from Malcolm in the Middle looks promising, and Mad Men is already great, so I'm willing to give almost any new AMC show a chance, even though I don't imagine I'll be kind to another Lost rehash show.

Say what you will about their movie selection, but A.) They air fucking Mad Men. That alone atones for Catwoman, then blows you on the couch while you sip a fine imported beer. B.) They still have MonsterFest, which I watch every single Halloween, pretty much leaving my TV tuned in there all week. C.) They do cool shit like the Hitchcock marathon last weekend. So, aside from the occasional shitfest, they're a movie-lovers channel still playing some quality flicks every now and then, and now they're putting out some great originals to boot. Plus, whoever puts together their ads is a hell of a graphic designer.

If this project can match the creepiness of the "CUBE" movies, this could be worth a look.

Yea, but for true classics letterboxed and uncut you can't beat TCM. So surprised to catch the '78 Invasion Of The Body Snnatchers a couple months ago.

I swear I was flipping through the channels and saw 'Catwoman' on there once. They may as well just drop the 'C' from their name at this point. There's nothing classic about that piece of crap.

Anyone remember when this was the one time of year you could catch the classics, 'Dracula', 'Frankenstein', and the like. Now it's Poltergeist 3, and Halloween 4...WTF.

when the PTB rewarded broadcasters by sending them to the top floor. They thought they were being promoted but they were either turned into zombies or food.

it played at 2 am this morning, and won't be scheduled this Monsterfest again. Keep an eye out on Fear Fridays, it turns up from time to time. Oh, and don't forget a bottle of tequila to do a shot each time an idiot dies.

    by burgundy82

American Movie Movies? Whatever, they still play Mad Men. They can do whatever the hell they want with the rest of their broadcast day as far as I'm concerned. As far as MonsterFest '07 goes, horror movies at Halloween are like bands at a wedding (and I'm cribbing liberally from Vince Vaughn here): Good, shitty, whatever, it's still just as much fun.
