Okay... So Superman Was A Rumor, But Wonder Woman’s Really Seriously For Real Been Cast Now?
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Man, I wish JUSTICE LEAGUE would just announce its cast and get shooting already. All of these rumors are maddening, constantly shifting, and I’m not really excited by any of what I’m hearing.
Take this, for example:
A film director, who recently worked with actress Theresa Palmer, dropped us a line a few minutes ago to let us know that Theresa has won the role of Wonder Woman in JUSTICE LEAGUE. She would also play the part in a spin-off.
According to the local filmmaker (who we’ll keep anonymous, just in case it annoys the studio), Palmer just nudged out competition Mary Elizabeth Winstead.
The Aussie starlet has appeared in such films as DECEMBER BOYS, 2:37, THE GRUDGE 2, and WOLF CREEK .
Ummmm... okay? They’re not casting movie stars, so I’m not sure how I’m supposed to feel about this cast. All that matters is what George Miller can get out of them. I don’t think ROAD WARRIOR was packed with the very finest of the acting pool in Australia, but Miller managed to get exactly what he needed out of every single freaky-ass person in that film, and I suspect he knows exactly what he’s looking for in terms of these icons.
I have seen Theresa Palmer in a few things, but she hasn’t really made a huge impression on me one way or another.
Will she make a good Wonder Woman?

I only ask because the Superman rumor we ran yesterday appears to have been officially debunked:

I can Understand the excitement over Miller, it's nice to see someone with a good CV taking a shot at this rather than the Bret Ratners and MCG's of the world!
Caasting Unknowns fair enough has worked out well in some cases.
But surely the it's the bottom of a barrel when they are even considering anyone from fucking Kids TV!!
This Film should skew older, and not look like Smallville with a paint job!

Not! Not to beat a dead horse, but this project is only sounding worse and worse. Not to mention that it could be a really franchise killer. If this sucks, forget about anymore Batman, Superman, or Wonder Woman movies for a long long time. Regardless of what "universe" this takes place in, as far as the general public is concerned, Batman is Batman. These actors don't give a fuck about the superheroes they are playing. This is just a paycheck for them. Remember how Christian Bale stayed in character for all his interviews for Batman Begins? That's dedication, and that's because he's old enough to take something like this seriously. To these kids it's just going to be some lame comic book movie, the way Halle Berry looked at her role as Storm. I hope this is good, but sadly I have no hope.

As a small child, I did not understand what that warm feeling in my groin was, or why I was so curious to see what was under that red and white and blue and gold outfit, but I knew it must be a good thing. Anywho, they still seem to be rather young....I've sid this before but: ideal cast-Billy Crudup (Superman), Keifer Sutherland(Batman), Evangeline Lily (Wonder Woman-you need some one who looks like theyve at least thrown a punch before),Larry Fishburne (Martian Manhunter) and Ryan Gosling as The Flash with Selma Blair for Lois Lane. and for those Tom Welling calling people, if you need some one from Smallville get Michael Rosenbaum...he's actually the best live action Lex Ive seen and he's not even properly full blown evil on the show yet....but to keep the ages up I'll say....Alan Rickman for Lex. Doug Jones as Brainiac with Corey Burton doing the voice. and for the love of God have Crispin Glover cameo as The Joker for a split second....even if its only in a background news flash for something.

SuperMAN, BatMAN, Wonder WOMAN the clues are in the names. I'm tired of Hollywood putting kids into every damn movie and passing them off as characters who are worldly wise. Christian Bale worked as Batman because the character was just starting out and also because Bale is a bloody good actor. None of the names that are being thrown around regarding this movie have me interested at all because they all seem so young. For my money George Clooney would make a perfect Superman - he seems the closest match to the Alex Ross vision of the character and would bring gravitas to the role. It's been long enough since Batman & Robin to forget the association with Bruce Wayne but of course Warners want a franchise out of this so are looking to young actors that they can tie into a 3 picture deal. I'm in my early 30's but find it increasingly irritating the way that youth seems to be more important in Hollywood than talent or finding the right actor for the role (Kate Bosworth as Lois Lane being a prime example). Warners did such a good job with Batman Begins that it surprises me that they and DC don't have more respect for their other properties.

You can only say all the things you've been saying about casting young because the choices that are RUMORED are bad. Granted, young/unknown actors can do a horrible job, but they can also do great ones. Think about Christopher Reeve and the first Superman, or more recently even, Tobey Maguire with the first Spider-Man movie. Both young, unknown actors chosen to start a new Superhero franchise, both reguarded as two of the greatest superhero actors of all time.

If you're not going with bigger name stars (which I think is fine) at least go with some up and comers who somewhat look the part... you know, just a little? I guess we can thank them for now casting a 62 year old, 5ft 2 asian male. Come on WB/George Miller, this is Wonder Woman!!! You're not casting Stargirl.

...so who knows what George Miller will do in a movie like this. The last movie of this genre Miller made was "Mad Max: Beyond Thunderdome" in 1985 (which, I'll admit, is one of my guilty pleasures--I unabashedly love that flick). In my opinion, I think they're rushing this waaaaay too fast to get it in before The Strike. This thing should be epic, it should be "Lord of the Rings." This is making it seem like it's a rushed script and no serious thought is being given to casting. All the same...I'll end up seeing it most likely.

Because everything I keep hearing about this project really sucks eggs.
I mean really.
The ONLY way i can see this heap of crap working is if they do it MOTION CAPTURE style- and perhaps the CGI done by the Final Fantasy people.
You start putting these marginally talented Hollywood dumbasses in tights and have em' exchange "witty banter" over an overblown movie score, or God forbid, a "hip- with- it Rock soundtrack" featuring such earbleeders as Nickelcrack or the White Strokes or whoever you little jackasses wanna pretend are talented 'musicians'- then you may as well pack up and go home.
These characters have a legacy that should be taken seriously- and if you're not gonna do that- DON'T FREAKING BOTHER.
That's my two cents.

I always wanted to see wonder woman played by a 5'5" 21 year old blonde. That's awesome! Seriously guys, this movie is going to be awesome to the max, you don't even KNOW! Imagine, all the classic heroes, the ones we've admired and read about for years, finally coming to the big screen together! Not only that, they are being cast so perfectly too! Did you see how buff that skinny guy was who they rumored for Superman! He's PERFECT! I'mbummed that's just a rumor, because he would have looked REALLY good int he suit. WAAAY better than Brandon Routh, who was just too tall and muscular for the role, you know? I mean, I know he LOOKED just like Christopher Reeves, but that shouldn't matter because Chris Reeves is dead so there's no reason to honor his memory by continuing a franchise he made famous. I mean, it was like, a hundred years ago, no one cares about the old Superman films anyway. It's not like we used to watch them everyday as kids or anything. Not like we used to watch Chris Reeves with our eyes glazed and our jaws ont he floor. This is NOW, baby! New blood! Young blood! Fresh, 21 year old, "The Hills"-"Smallville"-"One Tree Hill"-"CW"-Blood! I'm SOOOOO glad they decided to go younger, that means that a whole new generation who doesn't spend money on comics can finally learn to appreciatte the characters that have been a benchmark of the industry for decades! They care, right? Why wouldn't they? It's the Justice League! I'm sure EVERYONE at my high school knows who Martian Maunhunter is, so I'm glad they're going for a fresh take. Faithfulness to the source material is for old people. Look at X3! They deviated hardcore from the original stuff and made BANK! Justice League should copy that formula and make BANK too! Oh, "Fantastic Four"? I'm so glad they didn't treat it with the ssame respect and dignity they did Spiderman. Becuase if they would have got a serious director, writer, and cast, it would have been GARBAGE. Who wants to see classic characters treated with respect? The reason young worked in X-Men is because many of the characters were young and just starting out. HOWEVER, in Justice League, all the heros are veterans that formed a group. They didn't start their careers as a team. They later became a team. The veterans in X-Men were older names. The rookie X-Men were the ones that were young and essentially unknown.

...the big difference between X-Men and Justice League is, outside of Wolverine, none of the X-Men are as iconic or marketable on their own as those in Justice League. You could get away with putting relative unknowns in X-Men, but with Justice League, you really need actors with presence and heft. And not only that, but why would you cast some mediocre actor who looks good as Batman when you've got Christian Bale defining the role for his generation? He's only going to be compared unfavorably. Hell, say what you will about Superman Returns, but Brandon Routh did a decent job, despite what he had to work with.

Karen Palmer is a 5'6" pale blond who will turn 22 in February. PLEASE! At least Winstead had a better, more Greek look and stood a somewhat taller 5'8" (but still only 23 years old). Someone mentioned Christopher Reeve and Tobey Maguire...Christopher Reeve looked like he was in his 30's (and he was just starting out, so they *could* have wimped out and made him young). Spiderman/Peter Parker was supposed to be a teenager, so Maguire was an inspired choice for the role. The Justice League, however, is an entirely different animal...these characters need to have PRESENCE to shine on the screen. A 5'6" 22 year old is NOT Wonder Woman (unless she's being used in flashback sequences during her youth). Someone had better wake up before this movie absolutely tanks.

I had intended to say that Superman was just starting out in the first Superman movie, so they could have made a much younger-looking Superman. Instead, they used someone who looked older than his years and who was an excellent actor. Christopher Reeve is the yardstick by which all other superhero character actors should be judged...the ability to not only look the part, but to bring the character alive. It's too bad they've forgotten this easy-to-remember formula.

I got nothing on not working with Bale or Routh. That just seems off to me and I have a hard time squaring it. For the other characters, I think casting unknowns can still work in Miller's favor. But the truth is I actually trusted Singer more with the X-Men than I do Miller with JLA. But in the end, it's still going to come down to whether Miller can deliver.

Casting all unknowns or relatively young talent means that we have less attachments to them and less of an idea of what they can do. I'm not "bitching" about anything.

...as Wonder Woman. Between her acting ability and her classic Wonder Woman look, especially if she's motivated for the role, she would be perfect. (Anyone see Wonder Woman's battle armor in "KINGDOM COME"?) But with the latest casting news for Wonder Woman, she's obviously not an option, as they are casting younger. But anyone with a cinematic eye could "see" Kate Winslet perform the role like no one else. I suppose that you could say that I've already been filming her (as Wonder Woman) for weeks, if only in my mind's eye. And lastly, I think the casting of Wonder Woman is central to how well this movie is convincing within this superhero fantasy, overall. It's so important to BELIEVE what is on screen.
