I am – Hercules!!

Here’s what’s doing with SciFi.

The channel just ordered 20 new episodes of “Stargate: Atlantis.”

It earlier greenlit a third season for “Eureka.”

Late last week, it also greenlit “Revolution,” a pilot about space-rebels from “Without A Trace” writer-producers John Belucci and Ed Redlich.

No decision has been made on the renewal of “Flash Gordon” for a second season.

And the channel has yet to greenlight a pilot for “Caprica,” Ron Moore’s prequel to “Battlestar Galactica.”

Read all of Variety’s story on the “Atlantis” renewal here.

    by gruntybear

. . . to produce, of course this makes perfect sense to "the Hammer." BSG might get far better ratings: (a) if it weren't buried late on Friday nights; and (b) it weren't plagued with these asinine near-year long hiatuses between seasons. Hear me, "Sciffy" Channel? If you spread Season 4 out over 2 years, you're only asking for ever diminishing returns.

Don't take into account DVD sales when pants, and cars and alcohol need to be sold.

It also gets crap ratings because it's on at a crappy time and if people miss an episode they'll wait to either download it, or just wait for the DVD. It's like comic books in that sense, who wants a pamphlet when you can just buy the whole book at a later time and enjoy it at your leisure?

Looks like the Razor "mini-sodes" are a test to show Sci-Fi what a prequel series COULD look like. If they keep up the awesome eps I'd LOVE to see the trials of the young Bill Adama.

Flash Gordon has lost my interest.

    1) Flash is a loser who lives with his Mom.

    2) They travel back and forth to Mongo through stupid FX weekly.

    3) Ming looks like a douche

    4) It has NO sci-fi swashbuckling feel.

I like Atlantis and am glad it has another season. The addition of Carter is going to take some getting used to. Between her and Rodney they should NEVER have any problem coming up with a solution. Where's the fun in THAT?

Now you're talkin'. So let's see...what's next? Stargate: El Dorado? Stargate: Akron, Ohio? Stargate: My Pants? Come on, SciFi execs! The possibilities are endless, and apparently there are still enough people who watch this shit to warrant its being renewed season after season.

    by newc0253

    Atlantis gets a fifth season?

In ten years its been on tv, i've never watched a single episode of Stargate from start to finish. Nor its sister show, Atlantis. Not that i haven't seen it, nor do i doubt that its entertaining in a minimal kind of way. I imagine its the kind of thing that would be watchable if you were stuck in one of those scientific bases in the Antartic for a winter. Otherwise, it's the safest most formulaic frakking SF imaginable.

even so, the B-movie crud of the SciFi channel would be bearable if they didn't weren't also running into the ground one of the best shows on TV in the past 15 years.

But to give Atlantis, that derivative pap of the most anodyne show on tv, a fifth season is compounding insult to injury.

this aggression will not stand, man.

    by kdoc13

OK, Flash Gordon isn't great. But for the love of God, please stop your complaining about Flash Godron. Why? Because this is what you people made by enjoying things like Zena: Warrior Princess, and Hercules: The Legendary Journeys. That's right, you watched those cheesy pieces of hell-born brimstone and made them a success, you made an audience for this kind of thing and don't think for a moment that because of your decade's long lapse in judgment, television executives didn't think they could market the formula. If people weren't watching Flash Gordon, it would have been pulled off the air months ago. So quit your bitchin and admit you watch it for more than the Razor flashbacks.

that so many people dont appreciate a quality series like atlantis....the special effects are awesome for episodic TV, the acting is great and not at any point in the series have i felt lost.....the story arcs are carried episode to episode, even if they only mention something here and there amongst a standalone episode.....to all of us that DO like this show and wish it the 10 yr success of the original, keep this in mind....the fools that question why this is on are the same fools that actually think DR WHO is a wonderful show and has amazing acting and storylines....lets all smoke what theyre smoking.....at lease BSG isnt going to drag itself on for all u asses, it has a planned ending, every show should be allowed to end on its own...not be dragged out for 7 8 9 seasons because the nerdy fans want it to....flash gordon should have died along time ago.....bring back the dresden files for a 2nd season....eureka still rocks !

i really did, but when o'neil left, it lost its momentum. that and the fact the seasons dragged on and on didn't help/ right now, atlantis has no major pull factor, it's by the numbers tv, because we've seen the shows b4, they're running ut of ideas and using plot devices used in sg1. we'vew seen that b4.. remember enterprise?

    SGA mostly a disappointment

    by chromedome

Good cast, likeable characters, good premise, good effects. But the plots depend on "the best and brightest" consistently doing the Dumbest Assiest things imaginable, and THEN applying cleverness and genius and impossibly excellent knowledge of ancient technology to get themselves (and/or others) out of the predicament that they brought on themselves in the first place. The writers waste every opportunity to extend an interesting element beyond one or two episodes: aged Ancient encountering Weir had to die in a single episode, every encounter with Ancients has some limitation that puts them out of the picture in short order. They get the city FLYING for gods sakes, and put a stop to that right away! Why not run with that a while, instead of having them find another ocean-planet right away?I had hope that the A-team writers from SG1 would take over and fix this mess, along with Amanda Tapping's arrival on the show.So far, no joy.....

    Reasons

    by cobbio

The reason "SG1" was fun, though mediocre compared to most shows, while "SG:A" makes me want to tear my eyeballs out: the Wraith.
I must say it: the Wraith are the silliest, least interesting, most annoying bad guys I've ever seen. They're just awful. The writers had no fucking clue how to create a compelling (or even scary) new bad guy for the show, thus they threw slips of hackneyed alien traits in a hat and picked themselves "The Wraith" (We're so cool! Wow!) over a Guiness. The entire show is like this.
I understand lots of viewers enjoy braindead science fiction like Stargate. I do, really. Thus I understand why SciFi renewed "SG:A."
But Scifi: can you please genocide the fucking Wraith and move on? Seriously, it would take like one episode. Create a MacGuffin that poisons the edible energy field (slapping the writers in the face now) Wraiths eat, set it off, and watch every stupid, unscary Wraith in the universe die. I'd feel vindicated as a human being to see this. I'd cheer, clap my hands, and dance a jig on their fucking graves. "Goodbye Wraithies!" I'd say. And then, "Glad I feel absolutely no regret wiping you out of existence!"
I hope this happens on the show. I really do.

No matter how cheap they are to make, they make so damn many of them it's money being taken away from the production values of the actual series! I DON'T need to see "Son of Sasquatch" or "Volcano Lice"...just make a few series, make the occassional mini-series (like Dune, Children of Dune) and then re-run good genre sci-fi stuff the rest of the time. Flash Gordon has about ONE-FIFTH the budget that BSG has - that combined with lackluster writing KILLS shows.

They started off as being almost indestructable with their regenerative powers, but now a few bullets will down them like the old Jaffa footsoldiers in SG-1. I like seeing bad guys on the show shot up by P-90's, but lets have some consistency at least.
And I can't believe people are complaining about another season of Atlantis while Sci-Fi constantly pumps out their stupid Sci Fi originals and original series like Flash Gordon. And that stupid garbage Ghost Hunters that seems to be on whenever a sci fi movie isn't on. SCI FI CHANNEL BLOWS.

Galactica was always going to end...

    by docmhumphrey

First off, the writers canceled Galactica not Sci-Fi...it needs to have an end. Who wants season 7 of Galactica where they have to stand around eating burritos. More Galactica is always great, but I don't want to see it ruined by the crazy sci-fi fans. The kind of fans that complain about Star Trek nuiances and get shows renewed that should have retired instead of getting killed off.Second, who here remembers the Stargate MOVIE? It was great Sci-Fi and something new. Stargate SG-1 should have been named something else. The concept of the second and third Stargate films seemed so interesting. Even Kurt Russell and James Spader said they would do them.
Kurt Russell vs. Richard Dean Anderson
We all know who would clean up that fight.
Flash Gordon is just a clone of every other Stargate / Sliders / Alternate reality series ever made. I like the character Flash, but I don't like anyone else. There was this great show that had the alternate jumping concept awhile back...Quantum Leap...
