AICN & ALAMO & AFS & SXSW present Josh Brolin and a screening of NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN!!!

Published at:  Oct 17, 2007 9:19:50 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... You can tell when a film is utterly spectacular (or anticipated to be exactly that) by who all is presenting the screening. Here we have the latest Coen Brother film that has thus far achieved radiantly ejaculatory reviews from just about everyone, everywhere - save for that sourpuss Mirajeff - so as a result - this particular AICN Screening is brought to you by us folks here at AICN... then you have the Austin Film Society, SXSW film festival, FANTASTIC FEST and the magicians at THE ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE! Woo-hoo all of us!

The screening is taking place on October 24th at the Alamo Drafthouse South at 7:30pm.

Now as a result of this awesome assembly of sponsorship - we don't have the full theater worth of seats to give out - that's being split up between us and the great folks at the Austin Film Society. As for how I'm giving out the tickets - it's pretty simple. It's first come - first serve -

Email The Alamo's great and powerful LARS with the subject line, "HOLA FRIENDO" and your name and the name of your guest. Lars will be accepting submissions til 9am tomorrow morning (Thursday). Each submission is good for you Plus 1 - but please request 1 or 2 tickets only. You'll get a confirmation if you're getting in. But go fast - I bet any film geek worth their weight in salt is excited about seeing Josh Brolin and this film asap.

    WAIT A SEC...

Harry, my man, No Country was VERY GOOD, but the only GREAT thing about it was Javier Bardem's performance. I mean, the direction is solid and it's suspenseful as fuck for the first two-thirds but it climaxes too early (I have the same problem myself) and the end strives for this metaphoric mumbo-jumbo that it doesn't pull off. It's one of the better films of the year but it's not the BEST and frankly that's what I was expecting when I sat down to see it, based on the early word of mouth and that trailer. Granted, maybe my expectations were too high but I'm not the only one who doubts that this one has the legs to make it to the final 5 Best Picture nominees. I'll be reviewing it soon, and for the record, I think Bardem has created an iconic embodiment of evil, a character that will be remembered on almost the same level as Hannibal Lecter, but there's no way anyone can look me in the eye and tell me that No Country is a better film than Fargo, or even Blood Simple. It just isn't. No way, no how. But it's still something to get excited about.

    the cast

    by the real mirajeff

is solid, top to bottom, but the script gets a little self-important at the end. It's a very well directed, first-rate thriller that stumbles at the finish line, like a lot of prestige films have, from Eastern Promises to In the Valley of Elah.

Believe it or not - people sometimes travel great distances for things like this. Like THE PIXAR STORY screening I had... Guy drove in from Arkansas - and another fella drove in from Atlanta. For BNAT - people have come from all over the world. Sometimes people travel for cool events.

    Not really first come/first serve

    by coconutgroves

Harry - I appreciate this type of even through AICN, but I am a bit let down here about the tickets. I emailed a few minutes after this story posted. Alamo sent out an email on accident to those accepted, then sent a second email with an Evite. By the time I clicked the Evite, all "invites" were full. What is the point of first come/first serve email list when there is a second first come/first serve Evite. I bit wonkey if you ask me.

I've been looking forward to this movie and I knew I was one of the first to email, so excuse me if I am a bit pissed there was a secondary RSVP system where people could take a person's spot, regardless if they emailed AFTER you did. Plus, to add insult to injury, I was informed I could wait in the stand by line.

Get an evite, find out now more tickets are available. I was actually told that I was "good" for tickets by Alamo, just to find out about the evite crap. Guess I'm not blowing the right person... :)

What the hell, I hope someone pulls their heads out of their ass. Each submission was not good for 1 or 2. According to the evite, my submission was good for 0.
Thanks for nothing AICN and ALAMO.
