AICN & The ALAMO DRAFTHOUSE Present A Screening of THE PIXAR STORY with director Leslie Iwerks this Sunday!!!

Published at:  Oct 09, 2007 8:18:06 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... I'm incredibly excited about this screening. Not just because I love Pixar like a child loves to suck their thumb, but because we're having Director Leslie Iwerks there to talk with us about the film and about animation in general. You see, Leslie is the granddaughter of U.B. Iwerks - not only was he a brilliant animator - but a brilliant innovator and inventor that created much of the processes that made animation so wonderful. Things like the process to blend animation with live action... and a lot of what went into Disneyland and more. If you want to know more about U.B. check out the documentary, THE HAND BEHIND THE MOUSE: THE U.B. IWERKS STORY also directed by Leslie Iwerks.

This is an extremely awesome opportunity to see this movie as it is planned to just play at New York and Los Angeles - so if you love PIXAR and animation - you've got to come check this out this Sunday! How? Read below:

Harry,

We have this booked for this weekend.

I have set up an evite. If you would post an article the show, people who
would like to attend can email me with the phrase "Alice's Egg Plant" in the
header
and I will send an Evite to as many people as we can fit in in order
of my receiving the email.

Please also let me know if you plan to attend and how many guests you
anticipate.

About the show:

THE PIXAR STORY with Director Leslie Iwerks Live

Alamo Drafthouse South Lamar
1120 S. Lamar, Austin, TX 78704
Sunday, October 14, 7:00PM

In the mid 1980's, three men united together to follow a dream: Ed Catmull,
John Lasseter and Steve Jobs pushed beyond the boundaries of what was known
in the world of art and science to form Pixar Animation Studios.

In 1995, the company's Academy Award winning computer animated film, TOY
STORY, ignited an entirely new animation industry, and their ensuing seven
films have entertained millions of people worldwide. Yet over the last
twenty years the company's dramatic journey has often been one of struggle
and commitment as they paved their way into an unknown medium. Through never
before seen archival footage, candid interviews, and visually stunning art
and animation, Oscar nominated director Leslie Iwerks takes us inside the
unique world of Pixar.

"a celebration of animation in all its forms" - Peter Debruge, Daily Variety

Please note: This screening is open to invitees only. Attendees must be
present 30 minutes before showtime to ensure admission. If any additional
seats are available, they will be placed on sale 10 minutes before showtime.

So what if breaking into the biz is 10% talent and 90% luck. You still gotta make your own luck, bitchers. Nice to see Disney/Pixar throwing the Iwerks family a little bit of a bone considering Ub Iwerks essentially invented Mickey Mouse. Ub wasn't an idea or story man, so duh, he couldn't have built the empire, of course, but "Remember, it all started with a mouse..."

there was no new information in the recent STORIES that have been seen other than initial release date. We wrote about every other aspect back in January. SO - we had it covered.

Showings Too Limited - Midwest Interested Too!

    by alice cooper stalker

Alright, seems like somebody only thinks people in NY or LA would have any interest in this film. I'm in the Midwest and I know plenty of people that would be interested in seeing this...including me. How about in Chicago or Minneapolis?

    Website?

    by bluereader

How come the film makers don't have a website where people can find out more information about the film. Can't they just power-up their macbooks and use iweb to create a site? Jesus, I do it it the just pass on the info, like where one can see the flick.

Because they're too busy. Self marketing is too time consuming. Many times it isn't a lack of not wanting to, it is a matter of not having the time to do it.

I appreciate that the film makers are busy, but if you make a great film and no one gets to see it, what's the point? My point about the website is that isn't it strange that a film about a company that relies on computers doesn't have one? I am also quite sincere with my offer to design one.
