Uncapie says goodbye to Charles B Griffith...

Hey Folks, Harry here... unlike Uncapie - I did not know Charles B Griffith in person - I just knew his work. When I was a child - my parents had 5 films in 16mm prior to the advent of VHS - but one of those 5 films that I so with such repitition as to become an engraved memory was the original LITTLE SHOP OF HORRORS. In fact I still own the print. The writing was so sharp, so deliciously sardonic - so wonderful. Years later when I discovered the bliss that is BUCKET OF BLOOD - I was stunned. These were films shot with the smallest of budgets, yet they're wonderful. A large part of that was due to Mr Griffith's writing. Seek out these films that Uncapie talks about, that's the best way to know why we loved the work of Charles B Griffith. Here's Uncapie...

Uncapie here was some very sad news.

Legendary Roger Corman scribe, Charles B. Griffith, has passed away at the age of 77 in his home in San Diego.

Starting with "The Gunslinger;" a film that Roger shot in six days, that starred Beverly Garland and Alison Hayes, along with regulars, Dick Miller and Jonathon Hazer, Mr. Griffith would write many classic films we've known to love over the years such as "It Conquered the World(Peter Graves, Beverly Garland and Lee Van Cleef.)," "The Flesh And the Spur(John Agar and Marla English.)," "Not Of This Earth(Beverly Garland and Paul Birch.)," my personal favorite, "Attack Of the Crab Monsters(Russell Johnson.)," "The Undead(Alison Hayes and Richard Devon.)," "A Bucket Of Blood(Dick Miller.)," "The Little Shop Of Horrors(Jonathon Haze and Jackie Joseph.)," "Creature From the Haunted Sea(Starring future scribe Robert "Chinatown" Towne.)," "The Wild Angels(Peter Fonda, Bruce Dern, Nancy Sinatra and Dick Miller in a minor role.)," "Death Race 2000(David Carradine and Sylvester Stallone.)," "Eat My Dust(Ron Howard.I still remember the radio spot: "See Opie go beserk!")," and "Dr. Heckle And Mr. Hype(Oliver Reed.) plus many more.

Mr. Griffith was a man of many talents. From second unit director to director. From associate producer to producer and of course, did little acting himself.

Mr. Griffith and I met last year at the Cinema Wasteland show that Ken Kish puts on twice-a-year in Cleveland, Ohio. We struck up a friendship and talked several times over the phone about scripts and writing. He was a very humble, but funny man and was amazed how many people were influenced with his work.

This year, I was down at San Diego Comic Con and invited him out for lunch. Unfortunately, he was under-the-weather and couldn't make it, but we had such a great discussion over the phone, laughing and talking as a sea of fans roamed the masive hallways. "How lucky I am," as I thought to myself, "to know Mr. Griffith as a friend. A man who created incredible works that had an impact or influenced most people these people." It was a moment I will never forget and always treasure.

We had planned in October to meet again that day. I had called him last week and he seemed in such great spirits and was looking forward to getting together. I was heartbroken to discover the news of his passing.

Legends like Mr. Griffith, will always be remembered by all of us with the work they've left behind.
