Will there be many sitcom plotlines this season as funny as Dwight’s brutally impulsive decision to euthanize Angela’s pathetic, cataract-stricken pet Sprinkles? Dwight was only supposed to feed Sprinkles and give Sprinkles kidney medicine and rub fungal cream under the base of Sprinkles’ tail.

Another hour-long installment of “The Office” arrives tonight. There was one last week, and two more will follow tonight’s. Then the show will return to half-hours for a while. NBC ordered a total of 30 half-hours for the series this season, compared to 24 last season and 22 the season before that.

Rainn Wilson, John Krasinski, Jenna Fischer, Melora Hardin, Ed Helms, Leslie David Baker, Brian Baumgartner, Kate Flannery, Oscar Nunez, Phyllis Smith, Paul Lieberstein, Mindy Kaling, Craig Robinson and Creed Bratton also star.

9 p.m. Thursday. NBC.
