    Casualty de Palma

    by briandehacka

Let's face facts... Brian De Palma is not a talented enough filmmaker to cover this subject matter. Every time he has tried it has reeked of simplistic exploitation as does this film. He needs to go back to doing mindless (and often very entertaining and amusing) action shoot'em up movies. Sorry Brian just because you can produce an Oliver Stone script doesn't mean your him.

I took the short time to sign up just so i can say how terrible this trailer is. I don't give a shit about all the festivals this movie has been in. I'm sick of all these trailers showing the hundreds of pointless festivals they have been in instead of showing us images that would intrigue us to go see this movie.

As Carlito Brigante would say. But in this case "Here come the whiny fucks who haven't even seen the film yet, but want to shit on it anyway". But just like Carlito in that scene, they've no ammo.

I have seen the film and it was the kind of crass dreck I expected when an essentially B movie director takes on sophisticated material. De Palma is great at blowing things up and exploiting ethnic stereotypes (Carlito or Tony.. or Al) but that's really it. I do look forward to a serious filmmaker take on the material however. Save your De Palma patronage for "Capone Rising" I'm sure it will be -explosive-. Bada-bing bada-boom.

    by potsmokinalien

hollywood is not the only entity that thinks the war is a terrible thing. it's good to see stuff finally being made about the george w. bush era but that was a shitty trailer, the equivalent of saying 'this movie is important' for a minute and a half and then showing some people crying is not gonna get people in who don't know exactly what the movie is already.

    Is that 'Black Dahlia' sucked.

How can Josh Hartnett and Aaaron Eckhardt have been friends for five years? Did they start hanging out when Josh was in high school? He is not old enough to be a police detective!!!!!!!!

One condolence that I can offer people who've been held captive with a bang over their head while a dog attacks their genitals and someone flushes their Koran down the toilet is this: At least its not as bad as watching 'Black Dahlia'

    by nekomex

i hate when the put in how many festivals the movie has been presented or won awards like a big thing, because i think filmakers shouldnt think about winning awards , if they really feel that cinema is art they should present their art, not how good their art is because they have won awards. in the other hand most times its the desicion of the studio , to get more attention to the movie , but well i think it cheapens the movie.

Amazing. I have read and been told dozens upon dozens of accounts of incredible heroic self-sacrifice from our soldiers and Marines in Iraq, but somehow the only stories Hollywood finds interesting are the ones that portray our military as rapists, butchers or disaffected deserters. Yet they protest so violently when anyone accuses them of being knee-jerk liberals...

    Movie Ideas...

    by hyprkc

When are we going to see a movie about Saddam Hussein and his croanies toturing, raping & murdering thousands of Iraqis throughout the duration of his rule? Ever wonder how he was able to control all of the various religous factions, in his country for over three decades? Oh, here's another idea...how about a movie that graphically depicts what happens to coalition soldiers, contractors (like Eugene Armstrong) and civilians when they are captured by the radical Islamic Fundamentalists. I know, I know, not quite as bad as putting underwear on the head of a captured terrorist...How about a movie that highlights the numerous occassions that Saddam Hussein authorizied his military to fire surface-to-air missiles at US & UK aircraft patroling the "No Fly Zones" established over Iraq from 1991-2003. How about a movie that portrays US soldiers as the heroes they are and the radiacal Islamic Fundamentalists (aka TERRORISTS)as the vermin they are.

So it's believable that he and Eckhart could have been friends for five years. Most cops join the force in their early 20s. And, dammit, I *liked* Black Dahlia. Aside from Fiona Shaw's hideous supporting performance (which was less than 5 minutes in the film), it was enjoyable. No Chinatown or L.A. Confidential, of course, but to say it "sucked" is ridiculous.

    by rockyoursocks

Is that line meant to make anyone who sees this movie feel like some kind of revolutionary, or just the people who made it? I also must agree with the point that there are countless stories of heroism and courage happening every day in Iraq, but we are given movies about soldiers raping and murdering people. Think that is "supporting the troops"? Every liberal loves to say they do, but I'm sure they will all be in the front row cheering when this tasteless piece of shit hits the screen. If this kind of garbage continues, this country will destroy itself from within.

Um, I've heard a lot of complaints about people milking the atrocities of the Iraq war for their own leftist agenda.

    by briandehacka

It's a bad movie. That is the real issue from my perspective. The political spin is secondary if at all relevant. DePalma lacks the skill and sincerity necessary to handle this subject matter. You can still appreciate and/or enjoy a movie you don't agree with... this one just sucks.

    by rogue_leader

that DePalma is doing for this one with promotion, he will be kidnapped by some of the Islamists he loves so much and end up in his own movie with his severed head being held up in front of a camera. Wouldn't that be poetic justice. This movie is going to get Americans killed! Mark my words! The fact that "Benevolent Brian" is taking a totally perfunctory attitude towards the potential ramifications of this movie not only towards our soldiers in Iraq, but to Americans in general just shows you what a callous award hog this guy really is. This man values "Oscar Gold" over American "Red, White and Blue" and the Hollywood crowd is falling all over themselves to venerate and laud his actions. Pathetic beyond words!

...and it's filmed with a Sony Camcorder from 1993. Nice job, DePalma, or rather Magnolia Pics, if this their ad campaign. And does ANYONE, ANYWHERE, value the imprint of a film festival on an upcoming movie? Any name director can get their latest film into a festival.

I realize it'll be an ass kicker flick ripe for our time in history, but the set up here is designed for the idiot that needs to be told and sold and not so much teased for his/her viewing interest. Being a conservative in modern America must be like...

    by industrykiller!

being a zombie in one of those Night of the Living Dead movies. Because from the outside looking in there is just a certain amount of pride one can take simply from not existing as one of them. No matter how bad things get I can always look in the mirror and think "Well, at least I'm not conservative." and the day will be that much brighter. I mean just look at some of these fucking comments. All that matters to them is the films agenda. It's quality and truthfulness are almost completely immaterial to these sheeple. Never once do they mention that it's based on a true story. If you are going to judge De Palma on political war material, judge him on Casualties of War, which was an excellent film, and a fair film. Now of course there is room for De Palma to get all Haggis on us and start throwing one cliche and moral code after the other at us, but so far there is no reason to believe he is telling us anything but cold brutal truth. Which is something alot of you deserve to have thrown in your faces, whether you choose to look or not.

Brian De Palma has made a movie with an obvious political agenda, which makes me wonder why you and other posters keep saying "forget the politics, concentrate on the movie". It is a POLITICAL movie, one with motives I strongly disagree with. It's the cinematic equivalent of an Op-Ed piece, and deserves a similar response.
