    by rupee88

There are some people posting who cannot let themselves realize how worthless most of the last two years of South Park has been. I dare you to find an episode as bad as the Oprah or manbearpig one in the first few seasons? You can't because the bar was much higher back then. I don't think Matt and Trey are even trying at this point...I think they are smart enough to take the money, but they just are no longer inspired. No shame in an artist running out of ideas and passion, but it is retarded for people to say that the show is still great. The show is no longer even good. SP is unwatchable some weeks and only occasionally do you get an episode that will barely remind you of the ones in the past. I am not a "hater" because I love Matt and Trey for all the superb episodes they gave us in the past...just CLASSIC shit...that earned them a lifetime pass. But I recognize that the show blows now and you do too, deep down, but will not accept it or admit it to yourself or to the world.

    by jacksparasites

...I can't explain it to you. Sure, not every SP episode is brilliant. They have their bad episodes, but I think most of the worst episodes today are at least as good as the early episodes, but the best episodes of today top any episodes from the first couple. This premiere episode was hilarious. Last year brought us the 2-part Cartoon Wars and 2-part atheist wars episodes, both awesome (and I'm a fan of Family Guy). Chef's death was awesome. That's half the season right there. The season before that had Trapped in a Closet, which may be the best episode of the whole series. So quity your whining.

they've completely changed the dynamic of the main characters from when they've started... some of you don't like it, some do.

i'm one of the ones that do like the way they've gone and there have been some brilliant episodes in these latter seasons... and some shitty ones, but, eh, it's still South Park.

One that gets counted as the "worse episode ever" I found rather funny. The Mystery of the Urinal Duece. Yeah it was dumb, but it made me laugh. Oh and about last night ep, bout fucking time the Golden Ticket song is used without following a tour of some sort of factory afterwards. Plus I too think Chris Hanson has some sort of power to keep people in a chair.

    by rocklobster800

South Park has been getting better, not worse-the first season was great surreal stuff, completely different from anything on t.v, the second season completely lost its bite from overexposure and dependence on being offensive rather than satirical....season 3 is a mixed bag...and then everyone kinda stopped paying attention and the show just went straight back up-the topical humour, the characterisations, the standard of the jokes all improved. The great thing about the show is that its evenhanded, tackling things from multiple angles and even pointing out its own problems (except for the anti-smoking one, that had its head kinda up its arse) and creates a geniusly surreal, fantastically clever and fully rounded piece of social satire, better than the modern Simpsons and the latest episodes of the increasingly mundane Family Guy put together. The fact that every episode is written and realised in a week is amazing to me, due to the high standard. And I wont arse lick, theyve done some shite over the years-that Oprahs Minge episode is unwatchable, but the show has ben consistent for years now and I hope it continues that way.

Cartman faking Tourette's was a fucking brilliant idea

    by spyguy

Loved last night's episode. Just when you think Cartman is going to crash and burn at the end, the story flips back and Cartman wins while Kyle and the Tourette's kid look on in stunned amazement.

So, how long before Bart ends up with some sort of Tourette's on THE SIMPSONS? Or Peter on FAMILY GUY? SOUTH PARK did it!

The last 3 seasons have been a BIG improvement on the 2 or 3 before them. Not sure if they're as good as the first but they're fucking good. I think if anything runs long enough it will always get people saying "its dead" which can sometimes be true (in the case of The Simpsons) but not here.

    Jackovasaurs

    by fiester strikes back

Yeah, that was one painful episode. As was the one where Cartman played Bugs Bunny with Osama. Oh and Mr Hanky playing The Sorcerer's Apprentice was pretty weak (but I think that one had Chef's Salty Balls song, so it's okay). The Helen Keller musical one with Gobbles, Timmy's pet turkey? That was a crappy episode as well. And Cartoon Wars...not especially funny. Often when they try for a quick topical turnaround the show is about as timely as an SNL sketch and tends to stand up as poorly. So they have had plenty of sub-par episodes but over all it's a damn good show.

Seconded, South Park is the well that never dries up. It's amazing to recall how infantile and doofy it was ages ago in comparison to the sharpened sword it is now. As far as the Family Guy thing goes, I'd like to see them push the envelope even further and just base an entire episode around flashbacks. I agree too on the Oprah's Minge episode. That was a rare fumble. It really sucked.

Here's where the episode is brilliant:

    by mraig

Within the episode's plot, CARTMAN wants the freedom of being able to say horrible, racist, hurtful things and get away with it--but, as the episode shows us, (1) having Tourette's in real life would be no picnic, and (2) Cartman can't get away with faking it, because saying whatever you want anytime you want will come back and bite you in the end. So evil doesn't win.
BUT the genius is that Trey & Matt get to have it both ways. They get to claim the high ground, because their episode is ABOUT how you can't just say awful things and get away with it. But, in real life, they have managed to make a show where they say all these awful things, and they have figured out how *they* CAN get away with it. So evil wins!

But I do think that the show's obsession with Cartman's antisemitism is moving a little into the uncomfortable territory. It was funny at first when he picked on Kyle for being Jewish, because Judaism was something neither of them really understood, and the joke was that eight-year-olds pick on each other for any difference, whether it means anything to them or not. And it's funny for Cartman to be a self-obsessed, megalomaniacal little kid who has been picked on so much for being fat that he turns it against everyone else. But all of this focused rage against the Jews--making him into an actual Neo-nazi with fully-fleshed-out antisemitic views moves from funny-because-tasteless to creepy.
