Spoilers Are Unleashed For
The Return of NBC’s HEROES!!

I am – Hercules!!
I fear for the second season of “Heroes,” which launches tonight. The brilliant Bryan Fuller, who created “Dead Like Me” and “Wonderfalls” before writing on “Heroes” last season, has gone off to ABC, where he serves as showrunner on his own creation, the hugely acclaimed “Pushing Daisies.” Staying behind on “Heroes” is the “Teen Wolf Too” team of series creator Tim Kring (“Crossing Jordan”) and “Smallville” vet Jeph Loeb. Can they make it work without Fuller? You decide! BEWARE SPOILERS FOR TONIGHT'S EPISODE AND BEYOND!!! The current Entertainment Weekly (the one with Hiro on the cover) contains an article authored by Jeff Jensen. It discusses season two of “Heroes.” * Why didn’t Peter just fly into the sky by himself at the end of last season? An EW excerpt:
''It's all about Peter's mental state,'' says Ventimiglia. ''He was so focused on stopping this power coming up from within him, he couldn't tap into anything else.'' Coleman teasingly suggests that expectations may have blinded viewers to the possibility that Sylar was diabolically manipulating the entire denouement, from his apparent defeat to Peter's paralyzing meltdown. ''Maybe we needed to play that up some more,'' allows Coleman. ''But I think there was a slyness that some people missed.''
Other interesting info from Jensen’s piece: * In perhaps another nod to “Watchmen,” somebody gets killed in 2.1 and the first half of season two is a murder mystery. (Hiro’s dad and Claire’s grandma seem to believe they’re targets as well. I’m guessing the worse-than-Sylar boogieman little Molly referenced last season is the culprit.) * Peter starts the season locked away, and with amnesia. * Nathan, believing Peter dead, has descended into alcoholism and starts the season with a giant beard. * In sunnier Costa Verde, Calif. (which doubtlessly neighbors Neptune and Sunnydale), Claire comes to date another superhero (played by Nick D’Agosto, who also played Jan’s assistant on “The Office”). * Papa Noah Bennet is going after his old bosses. (Possibly with the help of Sylar??) * Mohinder, Matt and Molly the little mutant-finder are all living together. (With Matt’s pregnant wife?) * Jessica/Niki gets a virus that only affects superheroes, presumably the one that killed Mohinder’s sister and vexes Molly. * Molly’s “worse than Sylar” boogieman is identified in 2.5. * Hiro, who gets busy with a princess, may not return to the present until 2.8. * Many questions about the season-one cliffhanger will be answered in 2.8, titled “Four Months Ago.” * Sylar leaves the series around 2.16 to play Spock in the movies but is expected to return at season’s end. * We’ll discover that several mutants share the same superpowers. * Stephen Tobolowski (Ned from “Groundhog Day”) is introduced as a Primatech boss. * The characters introduced in next April’s spinoff “Heroes: Origins” could join the mother show or be spun off into their own series. For those who overlooked Harry’s post on Saturday (or Kring’s announcement on G4’s “Attack fo the Show” earlier in the week), big-screen writer-directors John August (“The Nines”), Michael Dougherty (“Trick ‘r Treat”), Kevin Smith (“Clerks II”) and Eli Roth (“Hostel”) will be among those creating “Origins” episodes. Read all of the Jensen’s EW story here. Details we knew previously: * Kristen Bell, whose character may or may not be a lightning lass like Gwen Raiden, is slated to join the show with episode five. She’s to hang around for at least 13 episodes. * It looks like Primatech might be behind the virus that killed Mohinder’s sister. * Dominic Keating (“Enterprise”) plays a hero involved with mobsters in Ireland. * Dania Ramierez (who played the mutant Callisto in “X-Men: The Last Stand”) plays a northbound Central American criminal named Maya with a dangerous power that works with her superpowered twin Aldjandro (Puerto Rican/Dominican actor Shalim Ortiz). Kind of like Jayna and Zan on “Super Friends.” * David Anders (“Alias”) plays Hiro’s ancient Japanese idol, Takezo Kensei, who turns out to be a blonde, blue-eyed assassin with a British accent and a drinking problem. His real name may or may not be Kane. His superpower is revealed in 2.2; is he immortal? * Ando will find himself shuttling between New York and Japan, where Hiro is presumably leaving him clues from 400 years in the past. * Dana Davis (“The Nine”) will play Micah’s hot superpowered cousin Monica, who - post-Katrina - works in a New Orleans fast-food restaurant. Nichelle Nichols (“Star Trek”) will play Monica’s grandmother. * Claire’s new boyfriend, who has the same superpower as her biological dad, seems to have encountered Claire’s adoptive dad in the past. * Claire gets a new California cheerleading rival, May, played by Janel Parrish (“Bratz”) and a lesbian cheerleader pal named April. * Claire and Nikijessica will finally meet. * Jessica Collins (“The Nine”) will play a superpowered Primatech thug named Sophie. She speaks French. * Kristen Bell’s character, Elle, has ties to both the Bennet and Petrelli families. Behold NBC’s loglines for the first four episodes:
2.1 "FOUR MONTHS LATER..." - Sept. 24 AS THE EMMY-NOMINATED "HEROES" RETURNS, THE EXTRAORDINARY STRIVE TO BE ORDINARY FOUR MONTHS AFTER THE EXPLOSIVE EVENTS IN NEW YORK, BUT DEADLY NEW THREATS LOOM AS BRAND-NEW INDIVIDUALS WITH ABILITIES EMERGE WORLDWIDE -- WRITTEN BY EXECUTIVE PRODUCER/CREATOR TIM KRING AND DIRECTED BY EXECUTIVE PRODUCER GREG BEEMAN -- As the second volume of "Heroes" begins, the fates of Peter (Milo Ventimiglia), Nathan (Adrian Pasdar) and Matt (Greg Grunberg) are revealed, following the horrible showdown with Sylar (Zachary Quinto) and Peter's uncontrolled nuclear detonation miles above New York City. As everyone attempts to move on, a new sinister force begins stalking and murdering Heroes. With the family hiding in Southern California, H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) and Claire (Hayden Panettiere) attempt to live as inconspicuously as possible...which proves to be easier said than done. Meanwhile, after landing in feudal Japan, Hiro (Masi Oka) meets his hero Takezo Kensei (David Anders). Twins Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro Herrera (Shalim Ortiz) hope to make the crossing into the U.S. from Mexico, in hopes of finding help with their deadly abilities. Dana Davis, Noah Gray-Cabey, James Kyson Lee, Ali Larter, Sendhil Ramamurthy also star. Nick D'Agosto, Lyndsy Fonseca, Cristine Rose, Barry Shabaka Henley, George Takei, Eriko Tamura, Adair Tishler and Stephen Tobolowsky guest star. 2.2 "LIZARDS" - Oct. 1 AS MATT INVESIGATES THE DEATH OF ONE HERO, ANOTHER IS ATTACKED BY THIS NEW SINISTER FORCE STALKING THOSE WITH ABILITIES -- THE HAITIAN RETURNS -- DIRECTED BY EXECUTIVE PRODUCER ALLAN ARKUSH -- With one person dead, Matt (Greg Grunberg) enlists some unlikely help as the attacks continue on people with abilities. Claire's (Hayden Panettiere) efforts to hide her healing abilities at her new California high school are jeopardized by a fellow student with a secret of his own. As part of his new job, Dr. Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) must track down The Haitian (guest star Jimmy Jean-Louis). While crossing into Mexico, Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro's (Shalim Ortiz) abilities prove to be a threat to those around them. Meanwhile, disappointed by his hero Kensei (David Anders), Hiro (Masi Oka) resolves to rectify any damage his presence in feudal Japan has done to history. And another lost Hero falls in with a gang of Irish gangsters with clues to his past. Jack Coleman, Dana Davis, James Kyson Lee, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto, Milo Ventimiglia also star. Nick D'Agosto, Katie Carr, Ashley Crow, Cristine Rose, Barry Shabaka Henley, Dominic Keating, Holt McCallany, Eriko Tamura, Adair Tishler and Stephen Tobolowsky guest star. 2.3 "KINDRED" - Oct. 8 BOTH IN PAST AND PRESENT, SEVERAL HEROES MAKE SHOCKING DISCOVERIES -- NIKI AND MICAH RETURN -- Upon his return to New York, Suresh (Sendhil Ramamurthy) is unnerved to find an undiscovered Issac Mendez painting that foretells death of someone close to him. Both Claire (Hayden Panettiere) and H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) pursue their own secret personal agendas. Determined to make it to the U.S., Maya (Dania Ramirez) uses her deadly abilities to free Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz) from a Mexican jail. Ando (James Kyson Lee) returns to his job in Japan and makes a happy discovery. Meanwhile, in Japan's past, just when Hiro (Masi Oka) had written off Kensei (David Anders), his childhood hero surprises him. Niki (Ali Larter) and Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) leave Las Vegas in an attempt to start over. Later, Niki and a lost Hero individually strike shady bargains to reach their goals. Two familiar people with abilities make an unexpected return. Dana Davis, Noah Gray-Cabey, Greg Grunberg, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto, Milo Ventimiglia also star. Nick D'Agosto, Katie Carr, Ashley Crow, Cristine Rose, Barry Shabaka Henley, Dominic Keating, Holt McCallany, Eriko Tamura, Adair Tishler and Stephen Tobolowsky guest star. 2.4 "THE KINDNESS OF STRANGERS" - Oct. 15 AS SECRETS ABOUT THE PREVIOUS GENERATION OF HEROES ARE REVEALED, A NEW HERO EMERGES IN POST-KATRINA NEW ORLEANS -- While taking care of her brother Damon (guest star Carlon Jeffery), grandmother Nana (guest star Nichelle Nichols) and cousin Micah (Noah Gray-Cabey) between shifts at a local fast food joint, Monica Dawson (Dana Davis) begins to exhibit some unexpected new abilities. Angela Petrelli (guest star Cristine Rose) makes a shocking confession as new information about the previous generation of Heroes is revealed. With Molly's (guest star Adair Tishler) "boogyman" continuing to turn her dreams into nightmares, Matt (Greg Grunberg) asks her to put aside her fears and locate him on a map -- with terrible results. Suspecting Claire (Hayden Panettiere) has a new boyfriend, H.R.G. (Jack Coleman) fears for the future. As they get closer to the U.S., Maya (Dania Ramirez) and Alejandro (Shalim Ortiz) make a grim discovery on the road. David Anders, James Kyson Lee, Masi Oka, Adrian Pasdar, Zachary Quinto, Sendhil Ramamurthy, Milo Ventimiglia also star. Randall Bentley, Ashley Crow, Barry Shabaka Henley and Jimmy Jean-Louis guest star.

    by gorydon

Probably Micah's dad/walk through walls guy...I really hope they don't blow it this season...And Peter with amnesia? Can't we make a law banning that contrived plot device. Really? It's like a writer's crutch to throw in drama...Does anyone not think Peter will get his memory back by the 5th or 6th episode if not sooner, and it will probably have something to do with Claire finding him and helping him remember...Man, I hope I'm wrong.

DL should not have been given the backseat. He had a kick ass power, and they're letting him go to waste. I would like to have seen him step out of his ex-con stereotype and become an important character. Oh well. HEROES SEASON 2 BABY! Let's get it on. It actually sounds pretty interesting and im hoping they dont blow it. I couldnt resist reading the spoilers. Damn curiousity.

    Peter not flying

    by Dax_Bladerunner

up to let himself explode at the end of season one made complete sense to me. Tim Kring is making a different kind of superhero in my opinion. If you'll notice both Peter and Sylar use there abilities one power at a time. Each ability takes a great deal of concentration. For Peter to have just flown up into the sky would have taken away from his trying so hard to restrain the explosion. Picture it like this.... you have to take the biggest piss of your life and your doing everything you can to hold it in. You know that no matter how hard you try to hold it in, you're going to have to take that piss anyway. Now, knowing how badly you have to pee, but you are doing everything you can to hold it in, go make an attempt to do something else that takes a great deal of concentration and strength... like bench 300lbs or run a mile. <p> If anything, I call more BS on Sylar stopping the bullets in the final than anything else.

X-Men hardly has a monopoly on genetically superior people, the Watchmen connection wasn't even original in Watchmen, the 4400 was a show about alien abduction, and Lost is a show about a bunch of people trapped on an island. Yep, you really nailed it on those ones.

Tim Kring explained the Peter not flying thing as

    by CrichtonAstronut

Peter was using all his concentration to keep from exploding and if he diverted his attention to access another power it would cause him to explode immediately. Though I agree, that point should have been made more clearly in the episode. And the Hiro stabbing Sylar scene could probably have been handled better as well. Apart from those bits I thought it did a decent rapping up the other subplots while offerinbg some intrguing new potential storylines. Best being the promised "Worse than Sylar" bogie man. And of course the return Sylar himself. Also, the prommised appearance of Kristen Bekll is a can't miss moment.

    by wykedengel

first, a hardy welcome to everyone who will be taking the season 2 journey, whether you're a fan or foe, i think this is going be an awesome ride. i just have a few points i want to make and then i will shut up until later on tonight: 1) gorydon - not sure if you watched season one (s1), but damn, you should be able to remember the names of the characters at this point. additionally, i think peter with amnesia is cool. you have a totally super-powered badass who doesn't know that he is a super-powered badass. imagine the shit that could hit the fan with that one if someone like sylar or the "boogeyman" got a hold of him. 2) booster - i hope they don't kill off dl too soon; however, he seems to have fulfilled the whole, "i got my revenge on the guy that fucked up my life..." role. i agree, his character had some potential. 3) stereotypical characters - i guess nbc wants to try the shotgun approach to ratings: bring in every stereotypical character to appeal to every demographic: we got lesbians, hispanics, african americans, teens, old people, drug users (wait we killed off the doper didn't they *smile*); peeps with split personalities and asians. i mean, the only things we need is the boogeyman to be a total racist, sexist antisemite who kills because he wants to keep the current president in office to further some civil war and we have the makings of a blockbuster! 4) if they where going with latina steretypes, could they not have used cheech martin? 5) to the whole virus thing; is this to tie in that could it be the g virus from resident evil that infects nikki/jessica and she turns into like a 2-headed zombie? 6) sylar is not dead, but he is not the supreme badass we all thought he would be? could the boogeyman be out for him as well? 7) i always wondered (and maybe someone brought this up in another tb) if sylar got to nikki/jessica, would he then have another person inside of him? okay, i'm done blabbering...i am SO STOKED...

    Too...much...awesome...

    by Mooly

Wow. I was already hyped about Heroes return and now I can't wait until tonight. I called the whole Peter thing during the finale talkback. It's clear that Peter has no control over his emotions and that resulted in his lack of control with the exploding power. If he lost control of the exploding power, why should we believe he could start using other powers? As for more watchmen rip-off...good. If you are going to make a superhero show and want it to be great, watchmen is the way to go. ALthough I wonder how much of this new "virus" storyline is going to be "borrowing" from the legacy virus story line from Marvel. Stryfe, the time travelling chlone of Cable, tricks Mr. Sinister into thinking he has the DNA of the Summers family. Instead, one of Sinister's scientists opens the canister and releases a virus that could potentially kill all mutants.

So what if Heroes has elements of Watchmen, Rising Stars etc? Doesn't change the fact that I enjoy the hell out of the show and look forward to it each week. It might be different if it was a bad ripoff, but its not. Several of the first season episodes were extremely well done and Company Man was brilliant. I especially like how they made you feel some degree of sympathy for the "bad guy" without redeeming him or having him turn into a good guy. Personally I hope they go with a few smaller story arcs though as opposed to a season long one. Kind of like how comics will have epic "written for the trades" story arcs as well as smaller one or two issue arcs.

I agree with 1st, the show completely unraveled during the final few episodes of last season. Up until that point, it was some of the best television I've ever seen. The anticlimactic season finale made me swear off the show for good. And reading these spoilers, it doesn't look like I'll be missing much.

    ok, just write a book

    by OrionMoon

Seriously. As a lover of great dialog, I watch "Heroes" for the story. Very few of the actors do anything for me and most times it's painful to sit through the crappy writing....and I was the voice over artist for the MTV VMAs this year. I had to sit through Britney's performance twice. I know pain. -September

    quit complaining

    by DickGrayson007

Everyone is complaining that "Heroes" is a rip-off of different comic concepts, no duh, Peter is easily a cross between Poet of "Rising Stars" and Sync from "Generation X" but that doesn't mean the show sucks and if you look around most shows or movies have a premise that is plucked right out of a comic book so for everyone who's beating a dead horse, let it go man. Also, what makes you think a show about superheroes is gonna suffer from the loss of one writer when they have one of the best writers in comics today in Jeph Loeb writing for the show.

I like Fuller, but I don't like what he wanted for Zach

    by Drath

It kind of annoys me that Fuller wanted Zach to be gay when the character seemed to be in love with Claire the whole time. That Fuller made such a big "oh the actor is a homophobe" fuss about it seemed especially petty since not only had the actor played gay people before, but frankly the only character suggesting he was gay on the show was a mean girl who was using it all as an insult each time. I have gay friends how wanted him to end up with Claire and were glad when the gaybashing girl died, yet Fuller seemed to have an agenda that clearly wasn't working the way he thought it was. I know the actor is playing John Conner now, but that show is doomed to be cancelled being a Sci-Fi show on FOX, so I hope the writers disregard Fuller's bitterness and bring Zach back later. He was like Ando, a good companion to one of our lead characters, and I missed him in the second half of season 1. Create a new gay character if that's the golden prize, but let him stay in love with Claire as that was where that story line really needed to go. I am so glad Fuller is working on his own show again though, and I hope Pushing Daisies survives. *********************************** Sylar was controlling things at the end of last season? Sorry, that sounds like retconning to me. There were problems with last years finale (though much of it was simply a lack of Dinosaurs fighting ninjas in the NY strteets), so I guess if they can fix it after the fact then great. But forgive me for having doubts that it was all intentional.

This show is turning to shit...

    by wolvenom

I'm not impressed by what they're trying to do with the second season so far, but I'll save my criticisms until I watch a few more episodes. They really need to get rid of niki. The actress is a floozy who couldn't act her way out of a paper bag. Personally, I find her character to be the cigarette smell wafting through a restaurant that completely ruins what was an otherwise great meal. Her stupid whiz kid offspring needs to go to. LASTLY, kring with a bigger budget better have the fucking sense to up the special effects and x-men geek factor. LISTEN UP KRING, WE DONT WANT FUCKING DAYS OF OUR LIVES WHEN WE WATCH YOUR SHOW! And that is said with all sincerity.

I'm usually not one to come on this site and bitch but I hated this episode. Hiro's character has become a joke. The writers are trying so desperately to make him cute and innocent. It's annoying. And the writing in this episode just sucked. Aliens or robots?! What the fuck was that? And then the cliched boss at HRG's job. Come on. The only interesting character in this episode was Kensi. That guy did a good job. Also Parkmans character still has some life in him. I'm not giving up on this show quite yet but they better start blowing me away. I miss Lost

are they going for a phoenix thing with peter... The pictures that the girl drew to me seemed like peter, not sure why just a hunch. from my recolection it seemed like by the end of the picture progression there were flames in his eyes. also the whole saving the day only to dissapear and come back with some sort of amnesia seems kind of phoenix esque. I also got kind of a dark sinister vibe from him. I could be wrong about some of this, some stuff went by a little quick (ex. the pictures didn't really mean much to me at the time) but in the end I got the phoenix vibes

    by D_T

Not bad, plenty of good setups - Sulu!?!?! Oh no, hehehe. The Two-Face visualization in Nathan's head (*assuming* it was just psychological?) was interesting. Yeah, that was definitely him that pushed past Ando, near the fountain. Love HRG - one of my favorite characters (opinions on him being a super?). Kensei - I think what we're going to see here is Hiro is the Kensei of legend (we already know the real guy falls short of the tales). The B&S/Twins - just thinking out loud about their power. Seems like without the brother present the sister has some kind of "scanner pulse" that smokes everybody.

    by Drath

Believe me, I have gaydar, and Zach didn't come off as gay, so they failed at that, and frankly they should have dropped it and made up a different gay character because Zach worked much better as someone attracted to Claire but with some secret that made him "different." Frankly, I was sure he had a power of his own, and I still think that would be better than "oh, let's make him the wise gay boy with insight into accepting your identity." And if you think the actor was afraid of playing gay when he had already done so in previous roles, you're the idiot.

As far as powers and abilities go anyway...Really, you don't have to be totally original to have a great product, you just need to have a quality product that takes from the best and acknowledges that there are others that came before it...Like having Stan Lee be a bus driver and having a pivotal event take place at "Kirby" plaza. I'm at a loss....

    by Merlox

I just HATE to be this guy...I really do. But this episode was barely ok. It was on the level of the finale. Can I just say Legacy Virus and leave it at that? Let me just get that out of my system up front. I don't wanna be the "Heroes is ripping (insert whatever here)" guy. But there are just way too many similar themes that are popping up one after another now. And the product placement as obvious and painfully forced as it was wasn't as bad as NISSAN VERSA shouted in every early ep last season. The needed to open with a BANG after last seasons finale, but they seemed content to continue the whimper. I really like Heroes....I do...and I think I just get so frustrated when I watch it because you can just see the potential. It's all over the place and it's great, but it never seems to really connect. I think it comes down to the ridiculous bitchy cheerleader(again) routine sequence, oh look another shitty power-tripping (and poorly acted) boss, and the completely terribly written death scene of Hiros father. So they throw themselves off a building? That's it? Am I the only one to find that pretty anti climactic? sigh...I'm sorry...I just hate to be the voice of disappointment. But tonight COULD have been awesome. It SHOULD have been.

    by BadMrWonka

to add to the list of ethnic stereotypes (black=petty criminal, japanese=nerd/samurai, cop=fat) now we have illegal alien latinos? jesus christ.<p>the shit with the cheerleaders was poorly written, poorly acted, and poorly placed. seriously, you could have thought of something WAY better to accomplish the same thing. why the fuck didn't they just walk away from the bitchy cheerleader? sigh.<p>nathan's arc might be interesting, but he was SUCH A CLICHE in this episode. <p>Hiro in ancient times could be interesting, but don't you think they could have shown us everything they needed to in about 5 minutes, rather than the 15 they spent? I suppose if the white samurai has a power, as was hinted at for next week, it might make more sense to have invested more time in him.<p>the copy mart shit was ridiculous. give HRG more of a foil than a horribly written, overacting moron with a moustache. retarded.<p>TOO MANY CLOSE-UPS!!! and someone should tell mediocre writers that their mediocre lines look worse than mediocre when you do a quick dolly up under the actor's chin right before it. it makes it look cheesy, and for a comic book hero tv show, that's saying a lot.<p>why bring peter back right now? why not leave it at the vision nathan has in the mirror. make us all speculate. THAT'S WHY SEASON 1 WAS SO GOOD!!! they gave you a hint like that, and let it marinate for a week. this time, it marinated for 6 minutes through a nissan commercial. fucking horrible.<p>I think this episode was easily worse than ANY single episode of season 1. I will go on a limb and say that I actually did not enjoy it. it was fun to see the heroes back, but it looks like they were all taking stupid pills for the last 4 months, thanks to some really poor writing, pacing and directing. color me severely disappointed.<p>here's hoping next week turns it around...I'm very scared that this show might have blown its load last season. showing peter off in the first episode was the single worst choice this show has made thus far. much worse than the casting of mohinder. that bitch is growing on me. the writers of this show are not.<p>my disappointment is my passport. PLEASE verify me...

If you're gonna steal, steal from the best. Watchmen and X-Men. But when Sulu said 'I never thought it would be you', I had to laugh - so hokey, but yet straight out of a comic book ending. This Didn't Need To Be Big

    by Playhouse

The great thing about Heroes is it is a continuing story. And this premiere only goes to show that. I actually found it much more effective than if they tried to have some slam-bang opener, a bunch of filler (though good filler), followed by a knock-down season finale - aka the Smallville formula (a show which I still dearly love despite and maybe because of its flaws). Heroes does the rare thing and actually creates the feeling of a continuing story. To steal their chapter device, this feels like you're still reading the same book while a lot of shows feel like you're jumping into a sequel from season to season. I thought that feeling worked in Heroes favor with this episode. Did it make for the most exciting episode? No. But it bridges well to the next storylines.

    by Ribbons

Is starting with a bang, followed by a series of peaks and valleys (according to sweeps and so on and so forth) really the best way to go? Or is a slow burn better in the long run? I think "Heroes" is burdened with the weight of expectations in this case, but it'll probably play much better on DVD, when people can set their own pace.

I was hoping the abysmally mishandled season finale was a blip in what had been a flawless season. But if this is how we START season two, this show is already dead. Poor acting, poor writing, cliche scenes, EVEN MORE stereotypes, the melodramatic AMNESIA "character" moment AND a lift right out of A KNIGHT'S TALE AND yet another split personality character?!...and not a damned interesting twist or beat anywhere. BLEH. What the hell happened to this show at the end of last season? Did the studio kill the only writer who knew what he was doing or something?!

I'm not really sure why I'm still watching Heroes. It's a mediocre show from start to finish. There's JUST enough cool parts to keep me tuning in, I guess.

How old is the little girl who plays Molly?

    by Ribbons

I wouldn't necessarily call her performance "mature"... but the actress herself has this weird, sort of worldly quality. Anyhoo, I wonder if she *is* the boogeyman. I might be reading too much into it, but her outburst at the dinner table seemed kind of ominous to me.

has anyone else noticed that this is the SAME story as last year? someone is going around knocking off super powered people. It will be a mystery...until they reveal it in episode 5 or whatever. Watchmen rip-off aside (the blowing up New York thing was a much bigger affront, IMO), it's just the same fucking thing. And Nathan's beard is so stupid looking it looks like he bought it from Eric Idle on theyway to the stoning.

    As soon as I saw...

    by Napoleon Park

As soon as I saw the kid that nearly hit Claire, sits next to her in Darwin class and nearly catches her fixing her broken leg, my reaction to his face and haircut is Hey it's that guy that plays clark on Smallboy. Then he starts hovering voyeurisitically outside Claire-Bears window and flies away and I sprained my arm patting myself on the back.<p> I liked the car commercial, but I bet it pissed off some fans that the ad had better special effects (and probably a bigger budget) than the average episode of Heroes.<p> Alias + Jake 2.0 = Chuck.<p> "It doesn't have to make literal comprehensible sense, it's a time travel series" = Journeyman.<p> Chuck was fun, Jman kind of a yawner, but congrats to National Universal for trying an espionage/super-hero-time traveler sci-fi/fantasy block of genre shows on one night. Now cancel Journeyman and put Medium back on Mondays after Heroes like they should have done in the first place last year, and they'll have something.<p> I do enjoy the idea of dropping Hiro down in the middle of an episode of Xena, but what will Ando do now?<p> Oh, and they totally ripped off the idea of putting their Peter-In-A-Box from that T'mberlake SNL Digital Short.

    by hammerofthegods32

are a bunch of whiny bitches. So everything the show does, you dumbasses think it ripped it off. Jack Sparrow? WTF? Because he was a British douchebag? Gee, didn't know all British guys who get slapped in films or shows are ripoffs of Pirates. THX for clarifying that. Bourne? Like no one ever had amnesia before the Bourne books or movies. Dark Phoenix? So, you guys are criticizing the show for ripping off X-Men for a plot point that isn't even true yet and is basically one you idiots' imagination? Wow. First fucking episode. Get over yourselves. And they weren't illegal aliens jackasses. First of all, they were in their own country. They were on the run because they were wanted for murder and were trying to get into the US.

'The 24 Method Versus the Lost Method' or 'Wow, Awful!'

    by topaz4206

Remember that quote from Mr. Kring saying that they would be following the "24 model, rather than the Lost model" of storytelling? In other words, a reboot every season?<br><br>So much for that. Keeping Sylar alive for 16 more episodes is a yawn-inducing copout. So many "plot"-lines this episode that each character got about 6 poorly-written minutes of screen time.<br><br>I loved Season 1, warts and all, but the only thing more shocking than how bad this was, is that people are actually defending it.

    don't listen to the geeks

    by zooch

This show is great the way it is. I think it's important it stays grounded and does not turn into too much of a geeky special- effects driven show. We still love the character-driven drama! Also people are so quick to point out whatever similarities to the comics they can come up with, but they aren't so quick to point out this show's many originalities. There has never been live-action superhero show on tv this good ever, so can we stop complaining now, please?

    Please kill Claire's mother

    by MrEkoLetMeLive

Yeesh. That woman can bring even the most entertaining episode to a grinding halt. Aside from that, dug the episode. Bummer they killed George, but hopefully that just means he has more free time to make appearances on the Stern Show. Thought tonight's episode was just fine. Some nice build up, picked up loose threads from last season, intro'd some new characters, lots of foreshadowing. All in all a fairly satisfying hour of television. Yeah, so they rip off stuff from previous comic book works. But you know what? My mom loves Heroes, and she's never read a comic book in her life. So if she gets exposed to some great comic book storytelling conventions through this show, that she wouldn't otherwise, then that's just fine by me. And it makes the show that much richer an experience for me, because I know where they're cribbing from. It brings geeks and non geeks together. What a wonderful, if not smelly and slightly socially maladjusted stew!

    "You're evil, Ma."

    by American Mythos

Best line of the night by Nathan. Haha. It made me think of how many times I've told my own mother the same. But anyway, I friggin' loved this episode. Maybe my judgment is clouded because Heroes is finally back, but I loved it. Was Peter wearing the Haitian's necklace? Looked like it. Plus, his memory has been wiped, which, if the Haitian did it, is irreversible. Or so we've been told. The episode I'm most looking forward to is the flashback one to right after the finale. Should explain a great deal. And I don't want to call anyone a geek and be flamed, but there is way too much complaining about plot similarities. Yes, I notice them too, but it doesn't really bother me. I doubt it bothers a majority of the audience. Heroes is a highly rated show. Do you think every one of those viewers is a comic book fan? No, in fact a majority are probably people who've never read a comic book. They just come home, kick off their boots from a hard day, and want to be entertained. And plot similarities or not, you can't deny that Heroes is pulling off a genre that has never been executed so successfully on TV until now. And as a last thought, I'm willing to bet money that Kaito's killer is, dun dun dun -- Takezo Kensei. Think about it, Kaito did have that look of betrayal. Kensei is going to be revealed as an immortal.

Lighten the fuck up.<br><br>About the episodes, I liked it, but didn't love it. I might be a sucker for action, so I think they could've upped that a bit more. All in all though, it had great set-ups.

    Pretty good opener

    by Ironmuskrat

No super surprises, mostly just setup, which is fine with me. Hiro's adventure in old Japan was better then I expected. Hiro's dad getting whacked was a bit of a surprise, you would think people would learn to stay off that roof, nothing but bad shit happens there. Since it is the first episode I will refrain from too much nitpicking. I have to say though,if it is HRG guy's intention to lay low and hide out he might want to find a incognito place for his family to live. Its hardly the kind of house a wage earner in California would be living in.

    Par for the course

    by JackSack

Meh, it was par for the course for Heroes as far as "setup" episodes goes. This show has always been, at its worst, just entertaining enough to watch and at its best highly entertaining. There's 20+ episodes to get through this season. I'd rather they not blow their wad in the first 4 episodes like 24 did last season and then run out of gas by the mid-season mark. One thing I like about Heroes is that they'll have an episode and then they'll double back a few weeks later to give you different perspective on that episode. Looks like they are doing that this year again with the episode 4 months earlier (or whatever the fuck its called). RIP George Takai. Hopefully they bring him back in a flashback episode. He was great in Heroes.

I have to agree with BadMrWonka...a stupid move showing Pete alive already. They could have left us hanging on that one, but we'll see what next episode brings. I do like the fact that some of them are still in contact with one another...HRG - Mohinder...Mohinder-Parkman...I'm not sure if Parkman knows about HRG/Mohinder's plan, but I would think so. <p>I've gotta say, I would have expected Sulu to wait somewhere else for Ando and the sword instead of, um, on top of a tall building. Where the killer could easily throw him off the building. Where was Scotty to beam him the hell outta there?? Damn you Scotty. Now the killer was either (a) be able to fly (b)has healing ability (c)is indestructible.

    New questions to answer

    by Alphi1

It seems that the episode raised a few questions - either that, or they just did it to eliminate characters. Questions like: Why was Parkman divorced? When we last left them (if memory serves) they seemed to be reconciling. Why was Nathan divorced? Especially now that his wife's paralysis has been healed (by Linderman)? Also, why wasn't Nathan still a congressman? He'd been elected 4 months prior, I guarantee his term wasn't up already.

    Okay, but Cheerleader Gangs?

    by Drath

Are cheerleader gangs a problem in white collar schools? This is the second time we've seen this particular problem on the show. Very surreal. Otherwise I enjoyed this premiere except for Sulu's death! What the hell?! We never saw his power! Unless fighting was his power, but that's too mundane in my opinion because anyone can learn to fight....unless he was really unstoppable, but then that makes his death worse. I knew when I read there would be a 4 Months Earlier episode that this pilot would only be confusing and that things would be strange. I was pleased to NOT see Nikki this week though, I am not fond at all of her character. I'm curious what the hell was going on with the mirror and Nathan. He can't absorb powers, so does that mean that Jessica's power was to imprint herself on her sibling and by coming into contact with Nikki/Jesse, Peter abosrbed it and so is imprinted on Nathan? Or was that just artistic lisence? Really not a good idea to just be artistic about something like that on this show, it's hard enough to know what to take literally. I really liked Kensei (Capt. Sparrow? Are you shitting me?), and I liked that Claire has attracted someone with her dad's powers--although I'd worry that Nathan has a few bastard running around. Not sure what to make of the Mexican twins--they are twins, right? I read that somewhere. Her power is to cause death and his is to stop hers? Hope not, that's a power that'll grow old fast. Anyway, I'm looking forward to having this on a box set as watching Heroes week to week is torturously slow and there are all kinds of things that you forget or even miss the first time around.

Not everything similar is a rip-off

    by heinz sabbatino

Just because something's similar to things that have happened in 90 different comics doesn't mean its all ripped off. The "alcoholic like Iron Man" was definitely a stretch. Iron Man didn't become an alcoholic because he couldn't save his brother and found out his mother's evil. Nathan doesn't need a suit to fly or keep him alive. So what's the rip-off? That they drink? Come on... And not everything is a rip-off of "Watchmen". Everything's been done before. Alan Moore is not perfect. Sulu's last line was extremely lame. The Copy Kingdom boss was straight out of every bad movie that goes straight to cable. And this season premiere is telegraphing everything so much, I doubt I need to watch the next four episodes. Ando has great hair. That new CW show, "Reaper" was much better the first time it was on. When it was called "Brimstone". Take care, everyone. Have a great week.

I don't expect it to be all out action, we can leave that for the finale, but a couple moments would have been nice. <p> That being said, I'm intrigued about the plot of the bad - superheroes killing off those who betray them... Hiro's dad's death was underwhelming, however.<p> And as for Zach not seeming gay, that's a little silly, no? Just because they didn't make the character a stereotype, doesn't mean he wasn't gay. I thought it was fairly obvious. Does "gaydar" even work on fictional characters?

    WFT??

    by wykedengel

okay, this is not a rant about whether the show ripped off this or that or what influences kring pulled into his writing, this is is to say simply, "IT'S FUCKING TELEVISION...IT IS NOT THAT SERIOUS!" I mean, what happened to being entertained by what you see? This isn't about what you would hope to see or what the writer(s) wrote, this is simply a matter of did you enjoy the hour you spent watching the program. don't get me wrong, i enjoy hearing people's theories and counter theories, but to the point where people are just hurling shit at the show for no good reason. basically it boils down to this: if you like the show, continue watching it; if you don't like the show turn it off. however 1/2 this tb is totally garbage because the space is filled with shit slingers on both sides. talk about the show for based on the merits of the show itself, not its inspirations or anything like that. now, with that said, i thought the season opening did what is was designed to do, introduce key players, set up the inevitable arrival of the baddie, introduced new elements and set the basic plot points in motion. i wasn't looking for the opener to hit the ground running, for me, that would lead to the writers having to constantly one-up themselves with each episode. equate the episode and this season to making love *smiles* it's good to create a slow build to what will eventually be a deeply gratifying and "oh yes" type experience.

Craptastic episode. Epically awful on so many levels. The Kensei stuff is ridiculous and over-the-top (not to mention the obvious southern California setting is a poor substitute for Japan). The Claire stuff = yawn. Jack Coleman must have felt like a dolt filming those trite sequences in the faux Kinko's; powertripping manager golly how original. Parkman always has trouble with women eh? Now he has a bratty little kid to deal with. Yee-ha, please why couldn't Parkman have died? Mohinder is just a worthless character and his arcs never prove that useful. And finally, the coup de grace: amnesia!!! F^cking amnesia?! Come on.************Thankfully no Nikki or her whiner kid and dumbass husband (please kill them all soon!).*********** Here's a funny idea - give us some villains. I don't mean one loner wandering around or some shadowy government. i mean, turn some of these characters bad. Very bad. Not sorta bad. Give us something with a little drama instead of all-knowing bad guys and silly vast Conspiracies. Give us people who have decided the normal, easy path sucks.

I don't give a fuck if the haitian ran a screwdriver through his cerebellum. Even the hint of amnesia is fucking trite beyond all comprehension. Everything about last night's episode was typical network TV. They picked every obvious angle, every cliched-riddled line and every silly plot point. I've seen bad - hell watch any sitcom - and this was the mirror image of bad. For fuck's sake, hire some of Peter Berg's writers from Friday night Lights and learn how to stay within a story while creating tension in the audience because they know you will go toward the obvious and then hardcore fuck the character in a new way or just pile it on the character.

    by drewlicious

The weird thing about Heroes is that it isn't that well-written but it's well told. I can count the endless cliches they employ yet for some reason I can't stop watching. There's plenty of low moments (most notably this time the overbearing boss, a character in this situation is really a half truth. I've worked in miserble jobs like this one and they only go for this crap when they're bored not because they take pride in the job) and a few high points. Those high points are dished out at a rate where I can't wait for the next one. High points this time: the cop and girl, Hiro, and the promise of a great villain and the return of an old one. Also, is it wrong that the most compelling character is a serial killer? I kind of get why he went crazy. All of his life feeling like a nobody, then some scientist comes in tells him he might be special and then crushes him by telling him he's not. For a sensitive personality no wonder he decided to give gray matter a try.

Not the best episode of Heroes, but some good things. Too many irritatingly precocious children and smart-allecky teenagers. I want all those cheerleaders to die (after they have been bathed, and sent to my quarters). Molly and West are extremely irritating. Hiro and, um, white Samurai dude are awesome. Shame Sulu died but what was he supposed to do? The guy's got to be nearly eighty and if a super-powered chav in a hoodie wants to push him off a building then he can! I think it'll get better. I remember not being overly impressed by the pilot episode but the first series built up. Given the few bones we've been tossed here there's no reason to think that can't happen again. And I like seeing the nods to classic comic plots!

Maya promises to be one of my favorite characters! I am willing to bet her brother is a goner.<BR><BR> Kensei just might be a favorite character too, and I honestly thought I would hate a white Kensei. He is a new form of comedy relief.<BR><BR> HRG obviously isn't going to conform and neither is Claire. One of those situation's where you're supposed to do as I say and not as I do.<BR><BR>Greg is looking mighty fine! Who said he was still fat? Rude! Look at his scenes from this time last year and look at the scenes from this year. He looks great! <BR><BR>Who is Sylar's "shiny new toy"? <BR><BR> Peter has amnesia... well... he didn't know much when he had his memory either. Let's face it this might be a way to give the scarecrow a brain.<BR><BR>I agree with those that say the evil cheerleader story is old. Hey wonka, bear, chrth, napolean and prof!

I'd like to see a Batman-like character on this show...

    by Prof. Pop-Cult

Someone who does not have super powers, but works among the gifted. For example, a former black-ops soldier or mercenary could fit in well in the Heroes-verse. Such a character could be the Heroes-verse analog to Batman and The Punisher.

    Maya

    by observer(jb)

In the show, her character is actually from Honduras. She's not mexican. The actress, Dania Ramirez, is from the Dominican Republic. I read in TV Guide that she supposedly has the power to create an instantly fatal virus and her brother is the antidote. She seems like one of the mutants that "The Company" would try to kill for being to dangerous. Maybe that'll be an upcoming story line: Multiple heroes trying to protect Maya from "the Company". Kirsten Bell is supposed to be a super-powered enforcer for the Company and she tries to locate Peter. She also has no problems killing people. Maybe Kirsten will try to kill Maya.

That depends, does someone who has an agenda, and sees facts through the filter of that agenda, lie or just misinterpret reality to go along with their ideas about how things are supposed to be? I think he's wrong, and as I said, I think his intention for Zach was misguided and should be ignored now that he's not involved. He's not infallable as a writer, his plans for Sharon's pregnancy in the unmade season 2 of Wonderfalls sounded terrible. I don't let my love for most of what he's done fool me into thinking he cannot make mistakes or that he's got he's always going to be reasonable in a disagreement. As I said, his claim does not match up with the facts, so I think he's bitter and misrepresenting other people's positions either intentionally or not.

    17th Century English...

    by PROF IKAMONO

(now that I have gotten through all the posts)... <p> 17th Century English does NOT sound like what Kensei was speaking... he sounds like the Geico Gecko (the current one, not the previous posh upperclass lizard) <p> Read the King James Version of the Bible, Shakespeare, or old copies of The Mighty Thor to hear how Kensei SHOULD have talked (forsooth!)<p> Is this dramatic lisence? (the Japanese characters all spoke modern Japanese as well, with no distinctions in class i.e. Samurai and villagers would NOT have spoken the same way) Or could this be a "subtle clue" that Kensei is also a time traveller?

bacci40 - I don't know if mama P would be foolish enough to do that. Peter couldn't handle his powers with his memory. I can't see her purposely setting him out into the world... or storage container... without his memory. Your point about the Haitians necklace is creepy. Is it really his necklace Peter is wearing or did Pete receive it from the same person as the Haitian? A person that is maybe going around painting the symbol on pictures of people and then killing them? <BR><BR> Alphi1- Why is Parkman divorced? IMO that one is obvious... the baby isn't his. *Oh and Nathan's wife left him because he refused to shave his beard.* Take this to heart gentlemen. Beards are prickly and scratch our faces. <BR><BR> Prof- No, I think she makes people sick, and they die. Her acting was phenomenal! My eyes filled up when she was crying after the incident. <BR><BR> stereotypes - can we please look beyond these and appreciate a show that actually brings in characters that aren't all blonde haired blue eyed, and straight? <BR><BR>Wonka, I'm sorry you were disappointed. Stick with it. I promise it will get better. <BR><BR> bear - You missed this didn't you? I know I did.

Way too much "here and now" in Season 2

    by Veraxus

They blew it, hard. Last season I kept thinking "Wow, no liberal agenda bullshit at all. How refreshing. I wonder how long that will last?" Not long, apparently. It's like Season 2's writers went on a "political hot topic of the month" frenzy. We have Katrina, homosexuals, AND illegal immegration all in one show. The only thing that remains to be seen is how soapbox the writers decide to get with those topics. You throw one bullshit cliche at me and I'm done with the show. I watch the show to escape from the "normal" day to day programming, not get beat over the head with it. Add to that the fact that using these kinds of "big topic" elements in the show is going to date it like fucking Megaforce. Fuck.

I know it is hard to see people from other countries on TV, and it is also hard to see homosexuals on TV. Liberals always do things like agknowledge Katrina happened. It would be better if we ignored it compeltely, yes. You are correct, people who are displaced, or feel like they don't have a place in the world is a theme that will be dated very soon. It is only relevant to right now.

oh you know I'm sticking with it. bad heroes is still better than most of TV. I just really see a marked difference between last season and this episode. I truly feel fuller's absence. I'k hoping that he wasn't the screen keeping it from soap opera cheesy territory, and now that he's gone, we're going to get overwraught acting, and mediocre writing. <p>I'm still challenging anyone to give me one good reason why they shouldn't have delayed peter's return until at least next week, if not the 3rd episode. when I saw burnt peter in the mirror in the bar with nathan, that was a truly "oh shit" moment. let that marinate for a week! I'm most disappointed in that, to be honest. I also don't see why they didn't end Hiro's dad's story this week with him seeing the hooded guy/gal. and just saying, "I didn't expect you." then ando shows up, sees both of them, and that's it. stop it there!! the cliffhanger were so perfectly done last season, and now it's like they take it one beat too far, so instead of "what the FUCK?!? what does that mean? what's going to happen next week?!?", instead it's "OK, I guess we'll see what happens next, next week."<p>it's great to see everyone back, but it just feels like Diet Heroes thus far...even beetle nose ned with the whistling belly button trick couldn't save it.

LOVED the episode when it was going on

    by jimbojones123

Not to thrilled now that it's said and done. <P> I was really waiting for this and they got stuck way to much in the exposition mode to actually put together any kind of story. <P> Viva El Norte was throwaway. Turn Maya and Miguel into a webisode. <P> We now have to wait 8 episodes for Hiro to take over for Kensi and do his good deeds? Then he finally finds out pappa dies? <P> Peter and Clair's new guy friend look too much alike. I thought it was Peter flying for a moment. <P> Molly kicked ASS!!! She was the best part of the episode. WHY DID WE NOT SEE MORE MOLLY LAST YEAR??? <P> Ready for round 2 though. They can't keep glossing over the good stuff though.

    Eating Words

    by lagomorph

It's gonna be fun to come back here in 3 months when a whole lotta fans are eating their words. This is CHAPTER 1 of BOOK 2. Let it unroll, reveal and slowly build like the first season did and you might not feel so disappointed. Stop expecting the sun and the moon from the very first episode. (though technically you did get both in the form of an eclipse). I will say though I thought they shouldn't have pulled the trigger on Peter quite yet. Sylar is still presumed dead though, so they do have SOME restraint.

Well i have just seen the first ep of new series of net as i am not sure when its being shown here in UK. I enjoyed it, the same high production values where there the mood and cast of cor (except nikki). It was as it shuld be a tease, showing u a little of the old and a little of the new, throwing up new questions etc. Some of you guys seem to expect the world, the show needs to start afresh and develop form gorund up again, as unlike most shows it didnt really end on a cliffhanger, so i would advise patience, sit back and enjoy the ride ! But of course do as you please people. Oh does anyone know when s2 airs in UK?
