considering that this film stars Simon Pegg and Martin Freeman. I'm looking forward to this film, seeing as how I've enjoyed the leads in pretty much everything they've done. That said, I'd almost certainly rather see a comedy with the same cast, but it'll be nice to see these two in more involved roles.
Sept. 19, 2007, 11:18 a.m. CST
There's major spoilers there. Oh well, I should still be able to enjoy the film. It has a great ending though, one you wouldn't think of--unless you read spoilers, of course XP

There are some obvious flaws, and Jake Paltrow probably needed a few more scripts under his belt before he tried this, as it has obvious Kaufman comparisons, and that is a tough act to live with... Still I enjoyed the heck out of it...

Is this a parody of Vanilla Sky, with the dream girl being played (again - and why not?!) Penelope Cruz, and the slender blond "real" world girl, and the Kurt Russell psychologist character played by ... ahem ... Danny Devito? And then a bunch of shit hits the fan when he decides to pursue the dream girl? <br><br> Okay, so who's the Jason Lee sidekick? And on that note, I can't wait to see Gwyneth Paltrow yell, "I swallowed your cum, ______. That means something! I fucking swallowed your cum!" while driving off of a bridge into a wall.

Let's keep this bit of internet casting alive so it's at least considered by the powers that be.

a bit uneven in quality perhaps and the humor might not be anybody's cup of tea, but for those who like the books and the madness there's plenty of entertainment. the alien creatures made by the muppet-folks are super cool. slartifartbast is spectacular.the actors are great and the effects are awesomely cheesy.

Sept. 19, 2007, 11:42 p.m. CST
This movie has been in the can for some time. I was privelaged enough to work on some of the sound editing on in -- well, just play with it to sort of learn my way around ProTools. Since I'm not sure the person was licensed to use the scenes for this purpose, I'm not naming names. Suffice to say that this was about a year ago, and that they weren't sure the movie would ever see a screen in the US. That person wanted to be paid! Still, the film looked good. One thing, however: Gwyneth Paltrow says the word 'antibiotics' as 'antibotics'. I remember making a lot of fun of her with others in the studio.

Where he has Simon Pegg in his office and he makes that annoying inhaling sound through his nostrils that people always do before they tell you off.<p> That drives me insane but I never quite realized it till I saw that. I was ROTFL.Martin Freeman is the English Paul Rudd.
Sept. 20, 2007, 12:25 a.m. CST
Have you seen the Office? That's probably what Martin is most well known for, yet I don't see it listed anywhere. The dude was in Hot Fuzz for like two seconds.
Sept. 20, 2007, 2:24 a.m. CST
The few things I've seen Freeman in have left some pretty good impressions. Paired up with Pegg, I have no doubts this will get my $cratch at the local indie theater, regardless the genre. Now it's just a matter of when the print gets in town...

And Freeman was a complete disaster playing Hugh Grant in space. Makes Hyperdrive seem good. Still he's done good elsewhere I suppose ...

What the fuck is ROTFL?! Huh? Lazy fuckers.
Sept. 20, 2007, 1:17 p.m. CST
as much as i love him, freeman wouldn't make a good bilbo. he would have made a GREAT frodo, but he's too young for bilbo. i haven't picked a bilbo yet, but i would like to see the film done by terry gilliam. if you ever look at tolkien art, you will see some interpretations that are wildly fantastical with undertones of drug psychadelia. i would like to see this middle earth. we have already seen the middle earth which was spawned strictly from the description in the books. i want to see some interpretation this time around.

It's not perfect as an adaptation, but it's a very enjoyable movie. I expected far worse. Definitely not a time waster, worth checking out.
