Darko Entertainment comes crashing through your bedroom ceiling!!!

Published at:  Sep 17, 2007 3:48:06 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Richard Kelly just launched Darko Entertainment with his producing partner Sean McKittrick.

That means they have some financing to produce some projects, which hopefully means it's easier for Kelly to get some of his off-the-wall-but-sweet-ass scripts off the ground.

Already on the docket for Darko Entertainment is THE BOX, which he's doing with Cameron Diaz in the lead, although I think that's getting its funding from another source. They also have a flick called DIRTY GIRLS lined up, to be directed by Abe Sylvia. Maybe the infamous BESSIE will see the light of day now? I can only hope...

If this is the direction that Kelly is going with his films, then I approve.

    Richard Kellys so Overrated

    by redfive!

The theatrical Version of Darko is the only thing this guys done thats good. The Diectors cut made that film worse,Domino was crap and Southland was bashed by even the guys who love him.

    Redfive! is right...

    by superdudebobby

...Kelly is starting to look like a one hit wonder. Still, I'm interested in 'Knowing', the film he was one time developing as his sophomore project. Premise sounded cool (a time capsule is unearthed that contains childrens drawings foreshadowing then-future events that came true... with one more catastrophy to come). Last I heard , Alex Proyas was attached -- but that was back in 2005. Anyone know the skinny?

    Bessie

    by knuckleduster

"...the story of a cow that can talk. Initially, Bessie has the grace of a 12 year-old girl, but mid-script we learn this milky experiment is really a conniving cow with dangerous telepathic powers and planty of attitude. Bessie's handlers, who've labelled the cow as a get-rich-Nesquik scheme, watch helplessly as her powers keep growing until she can enact a bovine-styled religious apocalypse and rule the world." -Empire Magazine, August 2003.

This guy needs LESS creative freedom!!

    by godoffireinhell

He's suffering from a severe case of hubris. Too many yes men. Everything he's done since DONNIE DARKO blows, the director's cut being the most damning evidence of all. DOMINO was retarded, SOUTHLAND TALES looks like chewed ass from the various clips online. Somebody put his foot up that guy's ass and get him back to reality. I won't deny he has talent but good lord he needs help making the right decisions.

    For the better

    by cobbio

This makes me happy. I like what Richard Kelly brings to the table, even if "Southland Tales" doesn't turn out as great as "Donnie Darko." I'm quite looking forward to "Southland Tales" for the moment, though, and I'll be excited to see what Kelly's company funds and produces.
The more sideways geeks owning production companies, the better, I say.

Some people actually would direct much better without their own studio. We're not all Spielberg.
