Much controversy was precipitated in April 2006, when “South Park’s” “Cartoon Wars” episodes posited that the Fox sitcom “Family Guy” was written by mindless sea mammals.
In this column’s talkbacks, some “Family Guy” proponents even went so far as to insist that Trey Parker and Matt Stone actually loved “Family Guy” and the episodes portraying the “Guy” writers as manatees represented only good-natured ribbing. Those talkbackers may have missed Exclaim!’s June 2005 exchange with “South Park” masterminds Trey Parker and Matt Stone:
EXCLAIM!: What's the meanest thing ever said to you before, during or after a gig?
MATT STONE: When people say to me, “God, you guys have one of the best shows on television. You and Family Guy.” That fucking hurts so bad.
TREY PARKER: Very well said. It's such a kick in the balls.
Adding to the confusion was the fact that good-hearted 8-year old Kyle Broflovski claimed he found “Family Guy” entertaining while the evil Eric Cartman was the character who issued this screed:
ERIC CARTMAN: Don't you ever, EVER compare me to Family Guy, you hear me Kyle? Compare me to Family Guy again and so help me, I will kill you where you stand! Do you have any idea what it's like? Everywhere I go: "Hey Cartman you must like Family Guy, right?" "Hey, your sense of humor reminds me of Family Guy, Cartman!" I am nothing like Family Guy! When I make jokes they are inherent to a story! Deep situational and emotional jokes based on what is relevant and has a point, not just one random interchangeable joke after another!
The audio commentary on the recently released “South Park” 10th season DVD set
has since made plain that Parker and Stone truly hate “Family Guy.”
Apparently they’re not the only ones, as revealed to IGN last March:
TREY PARKER: The day after that episode aired, we got flowers from The Simpsons. We got calls from King of the Hill, saying we were doing God's work. It's not just our opinion.
There’s also this exchange from that March 2007 interview:
IGN: Have you heard any reaction back from Seth McFarlane [sic] or anyone from Family Guy over the jokes you made about them on "Cartoon Wars"?
MATT STONE: We haven't heard anything. I think they're just swimming around in their [tank].
Eighteen months later, has MacFarlane finally prepared a response? AICN spy “Nick” attended a live “Family Guy” event in Chicago and asked MacFarlane about the manatees. His report follows. Beware spoilers for upcoming “Guy” episodes:

Quick Report from Chicago-
I just attended "Family Guy Live" here in Chicago where the very inebriated cast went through a reading of one of the earlier episodes and intertwined a plot line from an upcoming episode.
In the upcoming episode (which I do not remember the title to) Meg gets a job at a convenience store after Stewie knocks down a row of magazines and the manager is impressed with her sorting skills while putting it back up... When Chris comes in he hits it off with the manager who only wants to talk about movies with Chris while Meg is forced to do all the work. When Meg finally complains she is fired while Chris continues to talk about movies and entertainment with the manager. Finally, when Chris feels down about his sister not having a job he refuses to talk to the manager about a specific movie unless he hires Meg back, which he does.
There was then a preview of the Star Wars episode of Family Guy that is upcoming this fall. Quagmire is C3PO, Cleveland is R2D2 (who is holding a bag of pot with him throughout the entire bit,) Stewie is Darth Vader, Chris is Han Solo, Peter is Luke Skywalker, Brain is Chewbacca, and Lois is Leah. Meg makes an appearance as the snake monster in the garbage disposal. Herbert, the creepy old guy, is Obi-wan. When he pulls out his light saber to fight Vader his saber goes flaccid, but when Chris (Luke) yells out to him his saber goes rigid again. In the disposal unit Peter finds a nice couch and decides that he wants it. So Peter and Chris try to drag the couch out to the Millennium Falcon. They had a hard time getting it out of the disposal so, after Lois tells him that there is not much time, Peter decides to remove all the pillows and the legs and then it will come out better. Then they have a hard time getting it into the ship, which leaves Peter outside of the ship holding on to the couch as the MF flies away.
Inside the MF Peter and Chris are the fight against the tie-fighters and peter asks why they call them tie fighters (sorry star wars geeks if I am not spelling this stuff correctly, it has been a long night.) We then see inside of one of the fighters where there is a Taiwanese pilot.
According to Green and MacFarlane The Robot Chicken and Family Guy Star Wars episodes have a lot of common gags (they were written and animated at the same time,) and the Family Guy one references a gag in the Robot Chicken one.
I asked a question about what Seth MacFarlane felt about the South Park Manatee joke, to which he said that they had a response to that this season. When another question about the South Park guys came up, Seth said that he had to give credit to them for showing up to the Oscars in a dress.
While signing items someone asked Seth Green about a fourth season of Robot Chicken. He said that it was "being talked about" and that he was not sure as it takes up a lot of time.

In the February 2007 issue the interviewer asks MacFarlane about "Cartoon Wars;" his reply goes something like, "There's a perceived sense of arrogance there (refering to Parker & Stone), but I don't know how much of that is real." Chris Sheridan says something along the lines of, "It was such a left hook... I thought that we were all kind of on the same side, but I guess South Park didn't feel that way." I was a fan of both shows, but haven't watch South Park in a while. I think, ironically enough, that "Cartoon Wars" was the last time South Park did anything funny / interesting. This post by LONELY GIRL 15 showrunner Hercules seemed a bit a bit one-sided to me...

As far as the Simpsons vs King of the Hill vs Family Guy vs South Park, can't we all just get along? They're all funny in different ways. All this bitching back and forth reminds me of Kevin Smith bashing Lord of the Rings purely because people were referring to it as "the trilogy" instead of Star Wars. Puerile crap. Simply put, it's all good. -
I'll admit that I laugh at Family Guy, but I completely agree that it is NOT well written, and just a clutter of stuff. South Park is the better program.

I was at this Chicago event too... I'm now slightly retarded from reading the above description. If I recall correctly, this guy asked the manatee question again after the cast had discussed in detail only 5 minutes before.
The important bits:
1) Seth McFarlane said that any guy who shows up to the Oscars in a woman's dress is brilliant.
2) Seth also said Family Guy has "got something in store" for the guys at South Park this season.
3) The Star Wars Family Guy ep will be pretty damn funny. Look out for Cleveland as R2 firing a pistol gangsta style out of the Falcon and taking out a Tie Fighter. -

South park is scathing public commentary thinly disguised as a comedic animated show loved by millions of geeks and regular fans alike. It has Non sequitur jokes that have gone on for many seasons. I.E. Kenny repeatedly dying. It has annoyingly funny moronic characters that serve no purpose outside of making people laugh. I.E. Towely. But in the end it has something to say and proves a point even though it might take forever getting to said point and take many pit stops per episode to get to the forgone conclusion.
Family guy on the other hand does not really have any redeeming qualities outside of making you laugh. Mcfarlane isn't trying to save the world, he is just trying to get you to piss yourself laughing.
An good analogy would be cinema. Some movies make you think while they entertain you and some movies you cannot enjoy without first parking your brain at the door. I cannot speak for anyone else but i thoroughly enjoy BOTH kinds of movies, AND I also enjoy both shows.
Why compare the two? Why can't they both be good shows in their own right? -
It's not appointment viewing, though. Last night they reran the episode where Lois was addicted to gambling and all I could thing of was "The Simpsons Did It." Maybe the show would be perfect if the just did Brian/Stewie road bits as 15 minute clips on Adult Swim.

It's an animated program for adults, for fucks sake. Don't preach to me. I'll say that South Park is clever, but it tries way to hard and has gotten to be so unfunny in the last few years. I find later series episodes of MASH funnier than newer South Parks, and they are ever less preachier.

I have to disagree. SP's "political statements" usually involve making fun of the "right" and the "left" (by portraying them as extreme stereotypes), without ever putting forward any original insight of their own. "Fuck you Liberals and Conservatives for having a strong opinion! A pox on both your houses..." Does not count as "having something to say." SP was funny, that was enough. FG & SP are both pop culture heavy shows; FG is purely gag-driven, South Park goes for more traditional story-telling.

I'd say South Park went off the rails for a few seasons but has returned to form recently. I think it was the 8th season which I thought was the strongest in years. The one with the 'Good Times with Weapons' anime episode. I agree Family Guy was only good the 1st 3 seasons. But it was hilarious then. Even the recent Stewie's Untold Story movie barely raised a laugh for me and the reference just get more obscure. Not being American it makes it difficult to follow sometimes when the references are from TVadvertising exclusive to the US. Too often now, I'm waiting for the punchline to the joke and I'm left with a "huh?" moment. It has lost it's mainstream appeal. South Park at least has something to say and it is usually on a broad theme which any nationality can relate too. And on the way to making the point it's usually very funny. Simpsons on the other hand hasn't been funny in about 6 years. The latest 1 or 2 seasons have been an improvement though.

I get tired of people bashing Matt & Trey on the grounds that they poke fun at both political extremes without making a stand of their own. I think it's clear that they're probably centrists, and their stance is the same as many of us in the center who are put off by the very ultra-liberal and ultra-conservative views that South Park makes fun of. It may seem wishy-washy to take the middle ground, but in my experience that's usually where true sanity and sensibility lie -- between the extremes. I'm sick of both major political parties, consider myself a libertarian, and think that South Park is one of the absolute smartest and funniest shows of the past decade. Oh yeah, and sue my balls off, but Family Guy makes me laugh too. They're both funny shows in my opinion, and this whole SP vs. FG bullshit is just like the Star Wars vs. LOTR nerd war. Lucky me, I get TWO cartoons to laugh at.

While I do agree with Cartman's argument about "one random interchangable joke after another", it can be very funny when it clicks. When the jokes bomb, the creaky framework that Family Guy hinges on is exposed. But South Park can get a little high-and-mighty about itself and its viewpoint, so it'd be good if FG struck back and knocked them down a peg. I think its stupid to love one show and hate another. That's just being douchey.

If it takes 'Family Guy' over a year to respond to a 'South Park' episode that made fun of them, there is simply no way they can win this Cartoon War. South Park has such a short turnaround when it comes to making episodes that they can nail Family Guy half a dozen times before this coming Christmas if they wanted to. It also says a lot seeing as how South Park can produce creative, funny episodes in such a short time while Family Guy takes nearly a year to crank out more of the same, dull crap.

the whole debate of which show is funnier or better is ridiculous! personally, i enjoy FG better than SP...but then i was over SP ages ago once that initial bootleg of the original Santa vs Jesus 'episode' made the rounds in my dorm back in like...1997!!! (granted, i got over it cuz it got overplayed in the dorms by my friends, but still) I loved the SP movie (and honestly, who couldn't love that?!) but the show itself i find more annoying than anything...as if it seems to think itself as "smart" by being nothing more than social commentary...which is fine and dandy, but to me, it gets boring after a while. FG to me is just funny for funny's sake...and i've got no problem with it calling on nothing more than pop culture for laughs...i grew up on at least 90% of the pop culture that FG pokes fun at and i find it greatly entertaining. in fact, i've laughed harder (again, this is just MY opinion, but still) at FG more consistently than i ever have with SP. but ultimately, i think it's pretty lame that SP finds the "need" to make fun of the FG...and i'll find it lame if FG ever makes fun back at SP...the two are mutually exclusive to me, their humors are completely different from each other and there's really no reason to actually compare the two. Matt Stone and Trey Parker have so much money now that the fact that they feel the need to bitch about FG seems utterly useless to me.

The fact that people are calling any of these guys assholes or jerks because they are living their dreams making topical and outrageous cartoons sad. Animators steal from each other. They all stole from the Simpsons. While I appreciate South Park's attacks on Scientology and general hypocrisies (but not the constant poop jokes) and I have grown to enjoy The Family Guy as a Simpson rip off with Tourette's Syndrome, neither is more than maintaining a status quo that Ren & Stimpy, The Simpsons and others trailblazed. The truth is that newer bolder cartoons are coming and when they succeed, Family Guy and South Park will find themselves at the same bar, cuddling together, complaining about the new guys. I would rather watch Futurama and the Venture Bros, but don't hate Seth Macfarland for his success. That's the saddest form of peer envy.

...Is to simply use the cut scene joke that SP used -- the one where Peter says he auditioned for the role of KITT. Then have Brian say: "That never happened to you, Peter. You saw that on TV!" PETER: "Huh, and what about the time that I met the Muslim prophet Mohammad--?" BRIAN: "No way -- we're not going there." Then cut to the next scene, resuming the episode's plot.

I like Family Guy, but not nearly as much as South Park and nowhere in the same ballpark as the Simpsons in their prime. I'm not calling them ripoffs or manatees. Interchangeable jokes are about as funny as a bunch of drunks telling interchangeable jokes. It takes less thought to do what FG does that Simpsons or South Park. McFarlane can argue that his show is funny, that's fair, but he hasn't earned the grapes yet to crack wise on the Simpsons or SP. Ironically, to use a quote from your show "You Mr. McFarlane haven't earned what they've earned. I've seen your old student films that were the building blocks for family guy, you are funny, but you know what Trey Parker and Matt Stone did in college, Cannibal and Orgazmo. All I'm saying is I wouldn't watch BASEketball if McFarlane were the star. But as is, BASEketball rocks.

I just QCed the DVD for SP - season 10 at work.
In the cartoon wars episode commentary, matt stone and trey parker totally bag on FG for having "bad writing with no character development", as if this was what made -comedy- good, in their eyes. Then they talk about how they hate gags, and never want to hire writers that do gags.
The entire episode of Cartoon Wars is filled with gags, from the fight in the "King of the Hill" office, right down to when the tricyle falls down the cliff, and explodes - a gag used by FG nevertheless, where a carriage falls off a cliff and explodes, followed by the horse. What does this have to do with character development? MS and TP think they are soo much better simply because the greater majority prefers FG to their show. This is a case of the pot trying to act white in front of the kettle.
Whenever SP -does NOT- respond to some sort of accusation or insult or whatever irritated MS and TP that week, then it's a good show. But when they go into "omg, this guy's speech at this show we went to last weekeend REALLY irritated us, so we made an episode about it!"... well then it sucks.

Family Guy is the type of show which you can watch 'Best of' clips on YouTube and its fucking hilarious...whereas, South Park is funny the first time you watch an episode, but repeat viewing not so much...and its more the concept and story of the episode, rather than individual jokes...which is why South Park highlight reels are not as good...and why South Park hates Family Guy so much, because Family Guy is more about the individual jokes than the episode story or concept.

I'm an infrequent viewer of South Park because I lacks the cable. I did download the episode "Simpsons Already Did It" because the premise seemed funny, though. I tried watching it twice and it was so-so. Anytime the Simpsons weren't being referenced I zoned out. Family Guy is consistently funny. Yeah, it's random but so what? As MacFarlane said in his Harvard speech: excuse him for trying to be funny. The characters are memorable and the jokes irreverent. Between the two I'd watch an evening of Family Guy rather than South Park.

There's an MC Chris sketch that says something like "Comedy is making references to stuff you remember!" That pretty much sums up Family Guy. Not that I don't find it amusing, I do. But I sympathize with the people in other countries who don't "get" Family Guy, merely because they didn't spend the entire 1980s watching TV in the United States.
In 20 years, Family Guy won't be funny anymore, and that's basically a fact. But it's funny now, and I enjoy it.
That being said, the first few seasons of South Park won't be funny either, because they too were heavily invested in pop culture references. But South Park changed to BIG universal messages, and I think got funnier in the process.
But not matter what any says, The Simpsons owns them both, and I don't care that it dropped off a little after 18 seasons. The Simpsons Movie was still the funniest thing I saw this summer. The Simpsons is ultimately about family, which I think is why it's held up over the last 20 years. Sure, after 400 episodes there have been MORE than a handful of stinkers, but even in the last few seasons there have been absolute gems, and as I noted in another talkback, when you see The Simpsons removed from the context of knowing what season the episode airs, that is, when you see the Simpsons in syndication, sometimes the later episodes hold up wonderfully well, because they are removed from the context of this generalized knowledge that "new episodes suck and old episodes are great."
Meh. That's just how I see it. I could be wrong. -

I have loved this show since it's premiere a very long time ago. I was pissed when it was cancelled, and bought the bootleg DVD of all 3 seasons on Ebay. While lately I can admit that some of the gags on Family Guy either run too long, or just aren't funny, it still does a good job of making me laugh out loud 75% of the time.
Fanboys can hate all they want and act like their tastes are superior, but you can't knock people who do enjoy Family Guy. Also I was a huge South Park fan, but I, like many people I know, gave up on the show after that failed April Fools Cliffhanger regarding Cartman's Mom.
After that South Park's jokes became too "of the moment" that when you caught reruns, you rarely laughed at a gags you thought were funny before.
The Simpons are the OG's up in this bitch, and I will always love that fucking show. And finally, the show that needs recognition is Futurama. That show was well animated, well written, and the world they created was rich. The many little things that Futurama did to create their world is what made it awesome. It was also great that everything that happened on the show was never forgotten by the characters in the next episode. I can't wait for it's return. -

But now it's just a case of "what's popular now that we can take the piss out of". Due to the shows fast turnaround they can have topical jokes on a finished episode mere days after a story breaks. The show used to have original and bizarre plots, that had no bearing on popular culture at the time, and was far far better for it.Every show loses it's edge if it goes on too long. South Park has gone on too long, and now largely relies on shock value for laughs. I know people who would gladly knocked Trey Parker and Matt Stone the fuck out for "The Return Of Chef!" episode. That went way too far with paedo jokes, which like Family Guy's Herbert, are not funny.

..so don't worry about it. SP DOES show it's own opinions all the time. Usually at the end of an episode and voiced by Stan/Kyle. They are supposed to be the voices of reason. It's also worth pointing out that the voice of reason often coming from two 10 year olds is also pretty thought-provoking.

It is like the "Chuck and Larry" of animated TV shows. That Simpsons parody of South Park wasn't terribly funny, and that show has been horrible for a long time. "Cartoon Wars" wasn't terribly funny either, and the last two seasons of South Park were terrible. World Police was boring too, so even though I think Family Guy sucks, you probably shouldn't throw stones, when Stone is your partner and he doesn't appear to do anything other than appear in interviews with you.

Its simple, SP is often good, and sometimes funny, FG is always funny and sometimes good.
The fact that SP bashed FG in the show is fine - both show bash whomever they want and more power to them, but Matt & Trey's desire to keep trashing them outside the show seems like a cheap ploy to get idiots to argue and raise awareness of them and to hide the fact that they do 4 hours of work a year. -
I generally try to watch both when I can. Family Guy was classic the first 3 seasons, since it's return it's been amusing enough to keep me watching, with about 1 classic episode every season. South Park is hit or miss too, but I think it hits a little more than Family guy does these days. They're more likely to turn out an absolute clunker than FG is, but they're also more likely to completely hit one out of the park and do an absolutely brilliant episode. Let them have their private little battles if it amuses them, I'll keep watching both.

Neither South Park nor Family Guy are can't miss shows for me though. I loved FG's first few seasons before it was cancelled, but I can't say I have really been keeping up with it after the season it came back from cancellation, which I found to be hit or miss. I do enjoy the episodes when I manage to catch them on Adult Swim, but I don't go out of my way to see them.And I have missed A LOT of South Park episodes over the years, but I do enjoy them... The Simpsons... I haven't really cared about for the past 6+ years.Maybe someday I'll catch up on all the FG and SP episodes I've missed, but I doubt I'll ever do this with the Simpsons. That is all.

Nobody watches them anymore. That's why Parker and Stone hate it. They are SO funny, that everything else they have done tanked and they have to retreat back to South Park. And having to listen to people always talking about Family Guy whenever mentioning them (like now) must suck. They're old news, so they have to start shit. I can't remember the last time anyone I know brought up South Park. Maybe when chef quit, but before that maybe a couple years. I never liked that show. It's lowbrow shit thought up by the two assholes in school who thought they were cool (and funny) because they hated everyone else for not being like them.

Anyone who has seen Cartoon Wars and can sit through an episode now that its been picked apart doesnt care that much about what they are watching. They steal, but do not pay homage. I enjoy both Family Guy and South Park and the superfans of both need to stop being fanboys. BOTH FG and SP have really funny episodes and some really bad episodes. Neither side bats a thousand. However, I can see where the SP, Simpsons, King of the Hill people would get upset being compared to FG all the time. Like the SP guys said, family guys humour is very much on the absurd, random, "WTF" side of things and has nothing to do with the story. It can still be very funny, but it is NOTHING like the more story/situation driven comedy that Simpsons, SP and King use. Personally, I think they are both their own kind of genius. While those other shows think they could just toss out random jokes and still be funny...I'm not so sure. It's like stand up comedy. Sure, anyone can tell a joke or be funny with friends. But it takes work and actual comedic insight to be able to run a comedy on TV for many years.

Now I know this whole thing has been about FG and SP, but Drawn Together is fantastic. I am not saying its better, but that show has no limits and always goes way too far. At least it has the balls to do whatever fucked up thing it wants. I hope it stays around for a while. And what was with Family Guy just redoing the FCC song at the Emmys? Couldn't they make a new song at least? As far as most timeless cartoon, has to be Futurama, I didn't watch it back when it was on (because I wasn't living in America), but I have to watch it every night now on Adult Swim. That show has a lot more going on in it then any other cartoon this side of Animie. Can't wait for the new movie (will it be as good as the Simpsons?), as for the Simpsons I missed a good chunk of that show too and I am catching shows from like 99-01 and they are really good. And I think some of the most recent ones are good. Maybe you all are just tired of Simpsons, but since I've missed so much of it I dug the latest season. I do not care for King of the Hill.

I think that may be the reason why Matt and Trey really don't care for Family Guy. Without South Park, I doubt Fox would try to copy that edgy, relevant "adult" cartoon demo when they already had a popular rated animated show.

I was at the Comic Con presentation last year, and someone asked the question to the writers of Family Guy what they thought of the South Park episode.
They said they still thought South Park was a funny show and loved it and didn't have any ill will towards Matt and Trey and said that they actually started calling all the "aside" jokes manatees around their offices. As in "hey I think we may have too many manatees in this episode, let's take one out" -

But then tehre are people who like flics with blood and gore and people who like their action flics without the over excess. South Park is over excess and it's a turn off. It's not laugh out loud funny unless you're laughing at how stupid the show is... That said teh SP movie was brilliant as were many of teh odler episodes. And they've got a few hit or miss episodes too. But Family Guy is simply a way better time for some good laughs. Sure SP will be easier for future generation to watch and follow because it doesn't rely too heavily on pop culture like family guy does... but by then I doubt anyone would give a damn about teh show teh same as today. I liked South Park in elementary school... now it's just 'whatever' with occasional bouts of cleverness. Family Guy entertains me here and now, as does the Simpsons. I can't say i enjoy teh animation in south park either anymore. It was outrageous years ago... but now it has unfortunately become too boring to sustain me... But whatever... Matt and Trey are the only ones around here acting full of themselves. At least McFarlene has some class and I've never heard him bad-mouth SP.

it came back for season 4. it had been too long of a break, all the writers left, and, perhaps worst of all, the show had become a hit with the kiddies. the jokes now are so juvenile and obvious now that i almost can't get through an episode. the show used to be great, now, not so much.

I think its either gotten better over the years or I have gotten older and I understand alot more of the social commentary behind the jokes. Living in colorado though there will always be a special place in my heart for southpark especially when the kids try to pick up hookers on colfax ave.

One is satire. The other is parody. There's room for both. SP is smarter with politics. FG is more about being funny for the simple sake of comedy. Both shows are run by liberal atheists who mock both sides of the politic arena. The Cartoon Wars was among SP's best but I'd prefer to think of it as just having a little fun at FG's expense rather than a deliberate attack based on a petty grudge. I even see FG in much of the Cartoon Wars episode as being a kind of stand-in for SP. Like FG, SP pushes boundaries. I could see both shows depicting Mohammed for the sake of free speech. SP almost did but was stopped by their network. Then, only a few episodes later, SP made a very Family Guy-like random cut-to joke references The Dark Crystal, so I don't see why Stone & Parker act so opposed to it. And if you have an issue with the "comedy politics" of FG's humor and you think it's a cheap way to get a laugh, just have the stones to say that instead of trying to argue that it's not funny. That being said, again, I love SP and loved the Cartoon Wars episode. And the manittees bit was hilarious. Also, McFarlane did comment about it also during his speech to Harvard. Look it up on YouTube.

Have you ever thrown a party and, towards the end of the night, there is that one guest who just won't catch on that the party is over and go home? "The Simpsons" is the TV version of that guest. I watched Simpsons ever since the beginning, when it was the ONLY thing keeping Tracy Ullman on the air. But stopped a few years ago. I think the last episode I watched was when they went to England and met JK Rowling briefly. Didn't laugh during that entire episode.

I do have this weird thing against Libertarians. They say that the philosophy is about people doing what they want to do and not interfering with anyone else, but they are constantly trashing people that don't share their opinions. The audience is appeals to are the mindless sniveling masses who will watch whatever is available to them and accept it. They "dine-out" at McDonalds, and think of Ponderosa as a steak restaurant to dress up to. The bland in-your-face comedy that slaps a dead fish across your face in an attempt to be subtly political is necessary for the cretins at home to sit up and think of how cleverly subversive the entertainment is that they imbibe. Family Guy is just another reason to hate the Fox corporation along with Fox News and Fox Movies, bringing us the wholesome family-friendly new hip-hop chipmonks movie this fall.

even seasons 4 and 5 are incredibly watchable. That said, I was never a fan of south park back in the day. Season 10 has been really good though, its a show which is getting better with age, problem is no one gives a crap. And the hypocrisy of the creators is ridiculous....at least FG haven't stooped so low as to fucking catchphrases for T-shirts like the hilarious "Oh My God! They killed Kenny!"...which never got old. "Timmy!" etc etc.

South Park is funny and intelligent most of the time. The Simpsons still hang in there and King of the Hill is the most underrated and subtle of these sorts of shows. Family Guy and American Dad are moronic and self-congratulatory. Aside from small moments with Stewie, nothing is funny about them at all. Can someone please take that idiot, Seth McFarland, off the air? Oh, and kill Futurama as well.

...newsflash: it's always been preachy. That's the show. There's been what, maybe a dozen episodes of the show that aren't "preachy." You're either okay with that or you're not going to like the show. I love SP and think some of last 2 seasons' episodes have been among the show's best, but I also enjoy FG for what it is, as I'm also a huge fan of really random humor. And while I'm fine with Stone & Parker publicly criticizing others, when it's their adult cartoon show competition, I just think that's a particularly petty move. It seems like a silly grudge. And given that the creators of both shows share so much of their politics, you'd think they'd get along great.
