Who's considering playing Jigsaw in PUNISHER 2?!?

Published at:  Sep 14, 2007 5:34:04 PM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, we got a heads up from a reader known as "Darren" about a blog that is supposedly run by noneother than Paddy Considine, star of DEAD MAN'S SHOES and one of the Andys in HOT FUZZ. On this blog he mentions being offered PUNISHER 2 and when asked by a blogger what role, he comes back immediately and says Jigsaw, the villain. He's reading the script today, apparently, and will make his decision.

I actually really like that casting if it pans out. It's not really my first thought, but if you've seen DEAD MAN'S SHOES, then you know he can bring it. Let's hope the script is better now and he wants to do it!

    by industrykiller!

If this film is done right. First and foremost it has to be a complete redo, jettisoning that horrible last Punisher film, which contrary to popular belief is actually a worse film and captures the character even less than the Lundgren version.

And would like to see an actual canon villian (or at least some Angel Dusted kids ala Miller). These films really need to be Zeckafied. One can dream I guess.

What was the deal with Thomas Jane, again?

    by ribbons

I'd got the impression that Lionsgate gave him the boot, but he seems like one of the few aspects of the first film that was unequivocally good. Did they just clean house, or did he leave for some other reason, or what?

    Jane...

...left because he thought the script given to him was weak. He didn't think that at this point in his career, he'd survive something that bad and still get serious roles offered like Stander. Too bad his following choices have not lived up to his aspirations. He is better than toilet swipes like 'Mutant Chronicles'.

    Why?

    by the last starfighter

I really like Paddy Considine and I think at some point he could be pretty big, and for that reason he really shouldn't be doing Punisher 2. The first Punisher is still the only movie I have ever walked out on, and no one is going to see the sequel.

Why does aintitcool keep posting updates for this film? Yes, The Punisher could be a good adaptation, but its not exactly in good hands. They update every bit of news on this film as if we're biting at the heels for it. I don't know, must be a slow news day.

Paddy is really good. was surprised he was in Bourne 3 and expected him to be like this slimy Nemesis baddy to Bournes super Spy but relieved he played a scared everyman in way over his head in a very non glam role that ended surprisingly and was another sterling performance from himIn America broke my heart, A Room For Romeo Brass scared the shit out of the kid in me, Dead Mans Shoes was tough as fuck and I wish he'd been in This is England because it would have the cherry on the top of an already amazing movie! i'm Sure if he does his bit on the Punisher 2 his performance will be great whatever the rest of the cast and crew are getting up to and lets face it it can't be much worse than the previous efforts although I like Thomas Jane and thought his Punisher was reasonably watchableI'll watch Paddy in owt me so fuck it I think this sounds like a fun flick now! and if it's bullshit then I'll watch it anway coz I'll watch fuckin anything!

    by brundlefly

This guy redefines intensity ('Dead Man's Shoes' was a ball tearing revenge thriller, based largely on his awesome performance...no one says "YOU! YA CUNT!" with more coiled aggression and acidity than he) and he's one of the finest actors working in films today. If he stars as a villain in 'Punisher 2', my hopes in it being a worthy adaptation are well on their way to being restored...Paddy is the fuckin' bomb!...and no I'm not his agent...but i still think he shoulda been "Rorschach'...

The Punisher is the story of a killer vigilante in Marvel New York, wake the fuck up people. Get Hellcat and Iron Fist (or any other b team characters) to finger out who is killing all their bad guys and you have something.

    by immortal_fish

I realize that the hero is only as good as his/her villain. Dunno who this fellow is (yet), but I love me that Ray Stevenson. He has the perfect "ouch" factor to draw out the character of Frank Castle. Hopefully Lexi can catch it on film.

    by unwell_arena

Since no one answered fiester's query about his role, here goes. Considine played one of the two Andys. He was the one involved in the "You've got a mustache"--""I know" exchange. And for someone mostly featured in dramatic roles throughout his career, he was pretty damned hilarious. I still lose it just thinking about the Andys' introductory shot, Considine's mouth wide open and frozen, a forkful of cake at hand.

Stevenson vs Considine could be awesome

    by mr writer

Paddy Considine is a great actor and could be a brilliant jigsaw. Equally Stevenson could be the perfect Punisher.

I know everyone keeps predicting impending doom for this movie because Thomas Jane passed on it, but Jane didn't work as the Punisher for me whatsoever. He just doesn't have the gravitas. And it didn't help that the first movie was one of the worst films I've seen in the last five years either.

Anyone who watched Rome will know that Stevenson has both the look, the acting chops and the gravistas to play the real Frank Castle.

I hope Considine takes the role as seeing him take on Ray in a violent, kiss-ass Punisher movie would be great.
