SOUTHLAND TALES gets a nifty final poster!!!

Published at:  Sep 12, 2007 12:47:25 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a new theatrical poster for SOUTHLAND TALES. There have been many posters that have been online, but this is the first that feels like a real deal theatrical poster. Maybe that's a bad thing, but I actually like the poster image below quite a bit. It's hard to think that SOUTHLAND TALES is finally coming out, the damn thing has been in production for so long. Congrats to the good folks at Cinematical (heya Weinberg!) for getting the scoop!

Wasn't this thing supposed to be set in the future?

And I guess it was when it was originally made...

    by spencertrilby

can't wait either: looks weird, and the cast is so fucked up it could end up being either a sham or a real theatrical experience. Haven't seen Donnie Darko yet, so I don't care for the director but I wish he delivers.

Always. And it looks worse when the hair on his head is dyed blond! He might as well just rub coal dust on his face.

    That shit sucks!

    by traumnovelle

It's a veritable whos who of underwhelming B-list goombas. And the top part should read "From the writer/director of Donnie Darko...remember Donnie Darko? That was pretty crazy, huh?" That would hook people better, maybe. Without the blather of internet sites like these, I would have no previous knowledge of this film, and if I saw THIS poster in my local theater lobby, my eyes would skim right over it without registering a drop in my memory banks. It is bland and dull and it showcases some really, REALLY bad actors. But maybe it's good, who knows! I don't want to be a big old negative nelly. Maybe it's the long-awaited breakthrough performance from the guy who drank pee in American Pie 2. Strangers things have happened. None come to mind right now.

    Confusing...

    by lucky_cosmonaut

I find the tone of this film to be very confusing.
Kelly touts it as a surreal Phillip K Dick inspired Sci-Fi epic, the clips on YouTube make it seem like a black comedy, and this poster makes it look like a political thriller.

I'm keen to see it, I'd just like to know what I'm in for.

But the poster from darko was also ugly so.
I miss the time where real graphics people worked on film posters.
    Rip Saul Bass.

Donnie Darko was, ultimately, a superhero movie to me. I wonder if this will be the same? And part of me wants to see Frank come back.

Richard Kelly got good performance from Patrick Swayzy

    by pokadoo

He also brought us Seth "I like your boobs" Rogan. Hilarious as that cast list is, I'm hoping he strikes gold again. Been looking forward to this film for a while!

'This is the way the world ends'

    by monkey butler

More like 'This is why the majority of mature adults think you're a pretentious hack'. It's bad enough that a fricken video game quotes Eliot, but you just know that The Hollow Men will have absolutely zero relevance to this movie. Richard Kelly is an absolute joke. Only 13 year olds think putting random (but now very, very cliched) poetry in film marketing makes it deep.

Christopher Lambert is in Southland Tales

    by the biomind

I find it strange that they show Mandy Moore so huge on this poster. And there's not a glimpse of Christopher Lambert at all. Does Mandy (who the hell is she???) Moore really sell more tickets than the former Tarzan-Highlander?

    by chapaj

I loved Donnie Darko, but does anyone else think this is going to suck? I have a feeling it's going to be Kelly's Idiocracy. Poor Mike Judge just couldn't follow up Office Space. Southland Tales has been in studio limbo, just like Idiocracy. Never a good sign.
