WIRE!! CONCHORDS!! BIG LOVE!! FILM CREW!! Herc’s Season-Box DVD Vault!!
SPOILER ALERT !!
I am – Hercules!!

The Film Crew
is not a TV show, but it should be, and perhaps will be one day. It stars “Mystery Science Theatre 3000” vets Mike Nelson, Kevin Murphy and Bill Corbett doing essentially the same thing they did at MST3K – mocking poorly crafted old cinema. “Wild Women of Wongo”
(1958), represents the Crew’s third DVD outing and their first in color, following “Hollywood After Dark” and “Killers From Space.”
“Wongo” is the prehistoric tale of an island of half-naked primitive supermodels who meet their first-ever hot caveman.
Those readily made sport of this time around: David Schwimmer, Jeff Probst, Steve Irwin, Kiss guitarist Paul Stanley, Ossie Davis, Peter Pan, Boromir, Jim Jarmusch, Bam Bam Rubble, Tonya Harding, Clay Aiken, Cher, Al Jolson, Ed Grimley, Angus Young, the Menendez Bros., William Kennedy Smith, Ted Nugent, John Turturro, MTV’s spring break coverage, Natalie Maines, Adam Sandler, Saudi Arabia, Yoda, Gwen Stefani, Chris Farley, Carnie Wilson, Harvey Keitel, Rob Schneider, John C. McGinley, P.J. Harvey, Sandra Bernhart, Cass Elliott, Bruno Kirby, Cindy Williams, Adam Baldwin, Sarah Jessica Parker and Kathy Najimi.
There’s a great running gag about a Montgomery Burns lookalike. And the volumes of material dealing with the unimpressive Wongoian “dragon-god” is divinely guffaw-inducing.
The bonus features, however meager, offer a big step up from prior Film Crew extras (Nelson is particularly amusing here). In one, the Wongo priestess forces the Crew cast to dance. In the other, the boys re-enact “Wongo’s” moving finale.

FIRST IS LAME... FIST'S GOT GAME
-
I can hardly wait to get my hands on Family Guy 5! I've missed so many episodes this season!
-
pshh i'll pay $41 for the wire season 4. i guess this means a pretty early start date in 2008 for season 5, which is a good thing. i always say it's impossible for them to top themselves, but just watch, this will be the best season yet.
-
When do we get Salute Your Shorts on dvd?
-
That should get the ball rolling.
Also, that Twin Peaks DVD series is gonna be great. I wish they would release "Are you afraid of the dark?" on dvd. And finally, The Wire is the best show ever and I can't wait for the last season to kick everyone's ass -
For my money, The Wire is the single best television series on the air - and I think this is pretty much the Golden Age of television drama. So many great shows, but The Wire is consistently the best.
-
Did I just say that out loud?
-
...remember The Corner? That and OZ really showed me as a teenager what good television could be.
-
...remember The Corner? That and OZ really showed me as a teenager what good television could be.
-
That still won't entice me to ever buy it. Ever.
-
It's like they just took a promo poster and slapped it on a piece of cardboard. I'm a moron.
-
Name your price for the boxed set and I'll double it! INDISPENSABLE!
-
Yeah, I'm a bit surprised, as well. I didn't think the kids would be the ones on the cover art, but hey, I guess this pushes the point of the theme of season 4: the schools. I'm surprised, but not bothered by it.
-
Only one retailer has it (not Amazon), but it is out, today.
-
...not as good of an experience. You lose self-control, and the next thing you know you've gone through a season in a 3 day marathon. It's not like Lost where there is a lot of filler....in The Wire, every scene is significant, and there's only 10 to 12 shows per season...treasure them while they last, because it's the BEST.
-
Salute Your Shorts, Are You Afraid of the Dark, Hey Dude. I bet Nick could make some serious cash releasing those on DVD. How have the Pete and pete sales been, that's probably the indicatior right there.
-
Pete and Pete sales aren't as good as I would hope - apparently not good enough to get them to continue to release the remaining seasons. Which sucks - one of the best kid's shows ever. Any kid's show with the Ig as a recurring character gets the thumbs up from me.
-
do you hear me out there man? This is Bowie back to Bowie, I read you loud and clear man.
Love Flight of the Conchords ;) -
according to Domenick Lombardozzi, aka "Herc", who I had a chance to meet the other day in Baltimore, Canton to be exact.
-
Does anyone know if there will be a complete series box set coming out in HD?
-
Why no mention of the sets? Vol. 3 comes out next week, the Friezza Saga, probably the best of them all.
KAMEHAMEHA!!! -
About time this made it to DVD. I've been telling people about the show and they always ask where they can get it on DVD. It certainly took Fox long enough.
-
and Bullshit season 3, just for kicks.
-
what the deuce?
-
I don't recall hearing about one being produced, anyone know any details?
-
Just look at that cover, he's sniffing one hand and sticking the other in the viewer's face.Yeah, it's an anime FF that showed on Cartoon Network every once in awhile. Everything is terribly designed nad they carry over things from the movies. Like Alicia being black and the general feeling of shittiness. Save yourself some greif and skip it.
-
recorded these shows as they came out and pretty much watch at least part an episode every day since I saw the pilot. So cool beans on the timely well-priced set. ANyone know what extras are on it? And btw - Bret? You got it going on!!!
-
I've been watching the Wire (and seasons 5&6 of Sopranos) on DVD - and i have to say the experience is wonderful. There is so much they expect you to remember from ep to ep and season to season. You don't forget anything, you notice little pickups, etc. And, in the first few seasons, i'm able to fast foward through McNulty's domestic squabbles.
Kinda like with 24 - fast forwarding through all the crap with Jack's daughter in the first 2 seasons.
The Sopranos is less disappointing on DVD because i didn't waste WEEKS of my life waiting for JonnyCakes and hallucinations. Those episodes would've been horribly disappointing if i'd been waiting week after week for more whackings. -
I suspected as much from the cover(the Thing looks wierd even for the Thing) but I thought I'd check.
-
If you haven't already, get your asses down to the store and buy the DVD set. Then, do yourself a favor and watch the show when it starts up again on October 4. They're adding two new hot chicks, as if this show weren't already well worth your time.
-
I know he was barely in the season. Also, I've said this before, but why does ABC add some tagline to each of its DVD boxsets like "Seriously Extended", "Extra Juicy Edition", etc. It's not like there's an alternative version. I seriously hope this "tactic" doesn't bring in more sales. Also, that Ride of the Valkyries/Hamsterdam bust scene in The Wire is so, so good.
-
You must get the Corner, for there would be no Wire without it.
-
Pretty much all of the above. They do a lot of focus on drugs, but they show what's happening from both the cops side, and the "druggies" (for lack of a better word). I don't think describing the show can really do it justice. Check it out, and give it a chance, as it really gets under your skin, and you get to appreciate every facet of it all.
-
does anyone know if this is a boxed set or if it's just the three separate seasons sold together? $160 seems like a lot, especially when you can buy them idividually for like $30 or $40.
-
I was wondering the same thing. Why pay $160 for the "Complete Series" when you can get all 3 seasons individually for about $70 less.
-
in the last episode, when the flashback reveals deandre's relationship to miss ella... nothing on television has made me cry as hard. inconsoleable. I get blurry just thinking about it. And with miss ella no longer with us...
-
I just wanted to add my voice in praise of the best episodic television series EVER! Any description is bound to make it sound like just another cop/drama series, although a superior one, but is so much more than that and one has to actually see it to really appreciate what a gem it is. I agree with DanielKurland, the show really gets under your skin, and the 4th Season got to me more than any other. Maybe it's because of it's focus on the complicated, terrifying and ulimately sad lives of the children. That's why I think it is entire appropriate that the boxcover art for Season 4 to feature the images of the kids. What's the beef with that???
-
Sorry about the grammar. I meant to say "That's why I think it is ENTIRELY appropriate FOR the boxcover art for Season 4 to feature the images of the kids." I have already pre-ordered my copy!
