Hooray for Apple jumping the gun! IRON MAN trailer in glorious Quicktime!!!

Published at:  Sep 10, 2007 3:04:26 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Apple wasn't supposed to post this until tomorrow. This trailer premieres on a ton of shitty shows in prime time tonight (Comedy Central excluded... I heart Jon Stewart...).

Yes, it's pretty much an edited down version of the Comic-Con footage... but it sure is purty. And you never got to see it in Quicktime HD before. Damn I love the practical suits!!!

REPULSOR RAYS ON!!!

So its Comic-Con footage but still pretty damn cool. I wonder how much Ozzy (Sharon actually) got to let them use that old Sabbath song. Really thought, this is a super hero movie different enough that it will not feel like a retread. Love it and love the possibilities.

Love the shot of Stark running through the desert with the explosions and the fucking visual and audio effects of him in the final suit look and sound fantastic. Was never a huge fan of the Man (he was always something of a second fiddle comic in my opinion) but I want to see this! Good job so far, Fav! This trailer has me sold on the movie. I'm seeing this. Downey Jr, had me laughing at the beginning. I'm not sure how convincing it would be for for Stark to build a suit under his captors noses, and the use of the Black Sabbath song was cheese all the way, but beyond that, I'm looking forward to it. I love how when he's flying it's like a jet plane. Seems much more agile than a Superman. - n/a

    I love the critiques this is getting . . . .

    by amaysingstories

He looks like the Rocketeer! (Well it is a guy flying around with the assist of rockets in his boots.) That first suit looks ridiculous! (Well, it is bulky and cobbled together from the parts of a missile he was supposed to be building. Did you expect Art Deco? Or perhaps more of an Ikea aesthetic? Manga mecharobo? It's Iron Man's origin - the best mix of homage and realism they could have possibly achieved.) Stark is a dick, and then he's not! (It's called a character arc, and this is a trailer, so of course they're going to focus on the zingers in the dialog - they only have a few seconds to hint at said arc before you flip the channel.)

Face it - this is the most respectful, exciting adaptation of any genre property I've seen in years. My anticipation for this is far above and beyond what I have for the Dark Knight. It looks fun. It looks like they're treating the property with respect. And it looks awesome with the practical effects and, yes, the CGI Rocketeery flying man-in-suit (I love the independently operating control surfaces!). Iron Man is going to be THE movie to see, so stop hating, get off your better-than-thou critique couches, and, oh, I don't know, try to remember what it was like to just look forward to a movie before you became so freakin' jaded.

I was just trying to say that scene was laughable and i hope they play it that way (maybe with a few wisecracks from Downey) or i could see audiences laughing at the film in parts for all the wrong reasons, same with the critics.

    by chicagoronin

The goofy-looking clunky Iron Man suit is straight out of the original depiction of IM's origins in the old Marvel Comics. In that version, Tony Stark is injured while supervising the field-testing of weapons his company developed by the U.S. Army in Vietnam (wisely updated to Iraq/Afghanistan, in my opinion). He is captured by a local military leader who recognizes him and locks him in a lab with a local scientist to build a weapon for him. Stark's life is already on the line because he has a chunk of shrapnel in his chest. He ends up secretly building an armored suit that will act as a life-support mechanism, as well as facilitate his escape. It get tweaked into the slicker, superhero version of the armor when he gets back to the States.

Right from the first announcement, it seemed like Marvel made one smart move after another with this one. The director, the cast, that cool as fuck looking suit, and now this excellent teaser. Maybe I'm setting myself up for disappointment but I'm going to leap onboard with just pillow talk and say I am fucking psyched about this film. Please bear in mind I am English and not prone to words like psyched - but I am prepared to give it a go just this once. It's a special occasion! You know, I'm going to put my cards on the table here and say I'm looking forward to Iron Man more than I am The Dark Knight. Maybe it's because it's an unkown quantity and I kind of know what I'm going to get from Nolan's film, but this is the big summer blowout for me.Woo-hoo! Iron Man and that!

    by redtom

This aint gonna be anything other than a PG-13 cartoon, impressive and all as the suit, visuals, etc were - the main fight seems to be a showdown with a bigger iron-man-suit/robot/whatever it is that is moving much too like the terminator in the original Terminator - could be fun but, ya know, it looks liek its gonna be PG-13 fun...

    by laza-rus

Didn't have much faith in this film... until that trailer. I liked Downey - in the role - he pulls off the aloof playboy to a tee - but it also seems that he can be a bit of a badass as well, albeit with a ton of steel (or is it iron?) strapped to him. Will be first in line for this one.

    by brokentusk

Hiring Matthew Libatique was a stroke of genius. I liked the trailer for the humour and for the visuals, but it felt more like a trailer for fans than for the general public. Is that a bad thing? I don't know, but if they used better music towards the end of the trailer it would have worked a LOT better in terms of building up to an epic climax. As is, it feels like they just slapped on the Black Sabbath song because, hey, it's about Iron Man! It's a little distracting in its corniness.

Why all the hate for the song?

    by amaysingstories

It seems to me that BS "Iron Man" as a background piece is a foregone conclusion. It's a bad-ass, classic, iconic metal anthem, and this is eponymous metal dude we've all been salivating over. If it wasn't here, and it wasn't on the soundtrack (trust that it will be) you'd all be griping about them missing the opportunity, or how they cheesed out on ponying up the cash for the tune.
Iron Man and Iron Man go together - you can't get around it (even though the words don't track with the story). It works well in the limits of the trailer, they didn't overdo it, and it'll be nice to hear it when the end credits are scrolling up in front of my amazed eyes on opening night.

    Strictly for da homies?

    by spencertrilby

I gotta agree (minus the humour - doesn't work for me) with brokentusk: it looks like a trailer for the fans. Moreover, for the *suspicious* fans: the whole comic-con footage was supposed to sell us Downey as Stark, as in "I told ya so, he's perfect for the role", but I don't know many fans who weren't already pumped up by this casting choice. The fact that they chose again to focus on Tony, and show just a glimpse of the supporting cast even if Paltrow, Howard and Bridges will be their marketing trump card is beyond me. I mean, I register as a fan so I don't care, but some of my friends (who qualify as "general, mainstream audience") never saw ANY Downey flick except my KKBB DVD and to them the other actors would've been more appealing than good ol' Downey. I'm skeptical about the way Paramount handles this: to keep the teaser at this unusual length, and give more screen time to Leslie Bibb (which is not exactly a waste, but still...) and pass on three fucking oscar nominees including one winner... Strange.
BTW, the CC footage logo was WAYYY better, and the practical shots of the Mk.I are even more amazing in 1080p.

If you've got some guy in a near-invincible tecno-suit - put some other guy in an EVEN BIGGER techno-suit and let them beat the piss out of each other. See - that's waht Singer was missing in Superman Returns . . .ah . . .wait - that's esentially how they finished off Superman 4, isn't it? Okay, maybe the secret is to make the equally-powered opponent at the end of the movie not look like a complete douchebag. A bald Jeff Bridges? Yeah, that works. Bring on Iron Man!

    by wchblade

...thanks to the DB/Pro and Marvel split. So I can still say at this point that I've never been a Marvel writer, but I am a small press creator, a subscriber to Iron Man comics, and an artist at the core. So as someone on the 'inside' of the industry I think this movie will be a hit because of it's faithfulness to the material. I'm saddened that the modernization puts this in Afghanistan and not Asia, but Stan Winston's suits look amazing as do the CG FX. If anyone else out there is a fan of comics or of comic book art check out that Adi Granov "punching the ground" pose that they snuck in there.

I'm guessing that the "stereotypical Arab villains" didn't do it for you?Oh ok, I guess we'll go with .. hum... OH! Autralian Backpackers!! Yeah now that's a threat !!! Wake up, most terrorists these days are arabs... Doesn't mean that they all are for those of you who will jump at this!... I've got an algerian uncle who's figured out that he ain't in his home country so now he lives as any other north american would live. But the state the world is in right now, most of the bombs that are explosing in cities are caused by their Muslim Movement who can't figure out that their religion is not the only one in the world and they just can't accept it so they blow shit up killing innocent lives. Then you add a crazy ass President who's as crazy as them going in and getting military people killed for the sake of a buck. The arab terrorist works fine with this picture, just like when Iron Man was created, they were in Vietnam and the bad guys were Vietnamese. Would you have said the same thing if you went back then? Who the hell would you have liked to see be the bad guys to go to war against in this movie? Suedes? Mexicans? Scots? Turkish? Don't be ridiculous...Favs just made this movie as of today so, we're in the desert go with that story line... In 20 years from now if they remake the Iron Man origin story, they'll use whoever is out there battling it out with some other country... Welcome to Movie Making... If you can't figure that out... go to sleep...

GOtta agree here with you again 'bout the good Superman represents. And the fact he did not throw a punch. But at the same time Singer crapped all over the character's essence. Perry should be more aggressive with his journalists, here he looks like he's on medication; Jimmy is just a "gosh oh golly Mr Kent" type of dumbass character with no soul; Kent was closer to the animated corpse of Bernie with his 7 lines of dialogue and continuously doing nothing else than hanging around Jimmy at the planet or at the bar, oh and escorting Lois out to a cab..; Lois is a shitty mother who brings her son to dangerous situations and she's freaking 17 yrs old with a 5 yrs old son and a Pulitzer?; Superman is a Peep Freak who looks in other people's homes. So yes, Superman is about good and all, but Singer's Supes ain't good.

I never was the biggest Iron Man fan as a kid, but damned if that doesn't look like it could potentially be one of the best comic-to-screen films yet! Man that just looks super cool, like the Fonz with a tattoo of Roy Orbison on his ass cool!

some of THE most ame-ass complaints ever!

    by thebluerosekiller

All right, you have one of THE most well known, iconic heavy metal songs ever that's titled "Iron Man", one that pretty much every Marvel comics reading kid in the world has identified with the superhero for decades ( even though it doesn't have anything to do with Marvel's charecter as has already been established here earlier ) & you really expect the filmmakers to NOT use it 'cause some folks might think it's "too obvious" or ( God Forbid! ) "cheesy"? C'Mon!

And the use of "Arab villians" is cliche? On top of the film looking "too military friendly"?

Um, the charecter of Tony Stark is an international arms dealer & industrialist. With HEAVY emphasis on the arms dealer part. He has been since the charecter was concieved by Stan Lee back in the early sixties.
So, how exactly were they supposed to adapt Tony Stark aka IRON MAN to the screen without making him "military friendly"?

As for the film's early villains being from the middle east, again, how exactly were they supposed to update the charecter & show the origin of Ironman without doing so?

Last I knew billionare weapons designers & manufacturers for the USA aren't welcomed in North Korea, so THAT wouldn't have worked ...

Lastly, what's with all the griping about the "silly looking" grey armor "mach 1" suit? It's a beautiful rendition of the source material's original suit.
Saying it's "silly" is pretty much like calling Kal-El's arrival in a spaceship on a Kansas farm "silly". Of course it's not exactly believable, it's an adaption of a comic book! The very idea behind enjoying such is a suspension of one's disbelief.

It's just right amount of the song to keep it from going overboard. And it suits the tone of the trailer (all the one-liners). "I am Iron Man" over the logo at the end... it's the kind of thing that plays well to a theater full of people (non-geeks included) It let's you know right away that the movie is gonna be a ride. It went over like gangbusters at Comic-Con. If it ain't broke, don't fuck with it.

    Speaking as an American Muslim...

    by prof_ender

I didn't mind the fact that there are Middle-Eastern terrorists in this movie. I mean, it WOULD be nice if one day Hollywood would make a movie that doesn't make us all out to be "Koran-thumping terrorists" or "decadent sultans of evil" (I kinda like that last one, actually ^_^ ).

Truth be told, it really doesn't matter as long as the story is done right. I have some Southeast Asian friends who enjoy Iron Man comics; they don't care that his comic origin involved being captured by Vietnamese terrorists, they just like the character and the stories.

I grew up reading American comics. My mom grew up reading mostly American comics. My entire Muslim family (Indian and Pakistani, I was the first American born) loved American comic books. And we didn't mind any of the "racist" shit. It was all good entertainment that didn't want to offend anyone. And that's what I think this movie is.

I liked this trailer (I went apeshit when Sabbath played). I'm gonna go see the fucking movie. And if sometime between now and then, someone makes a movie that doesn't have stereotypes, I'll go see that too...if it looks good. ^_~

    by laserpants

He has been a fascist lately (and yes, he is the most interesting character in comics right now), but he's not really a right wing nutjob. Neither is he on the left. Really he's a centrist, but tends to overplay his hand on the powerholic/benevolent fascist tip.

And Iron Man bursts jets of flame! He fights and rights with repulsor rays!
Would some of you really preferred that be the music over the trailer? Puh-lease, Sabbath's I.M. song is incredibly appropriate and most cool for the film. I'm sure they'll just use it in the end credit roll, like the classic Spidey cartoon theme.
The trailer has started to restore my faith in Marvel movie adaptations. Let's hope this isn't just a case of premature ejaculation and Paramount blowing their load on the trailer.
Lastly whoever speculates that the Mark III armor appearance is simply a teaser at the end for the next film, look at the state of the armor while it's being tailed by those jets, it's got some battle scars on the helmet. There's gonna be some serious fighting going on in that armor.

    by grinning white skull

Wake up, UnTrue Believers! That Black Sabbath IRON MAN tune was for the masses that grew up hearing it all over the world. More people know that tune (vaguely or whole-heartedly) than know of Iron Man the Marvel Comic book character. It's a brilliant use of a pop (yes, its heavy metal statis achieved that decades ago) tune that gets the message out along with a tremendous trailer by Marvel and Co. My armoured helmet is tipped to the Mighty Marvel Marching Society on this one!

Sure the villains are stereotype, but that's because we are currently at war with plenty of people like that. If these film was in the 40's German Nazi's would be villains, and in the 70's the vietnamese. I don't think there is a problem with stereotypes in this case because it is also a reality. Like I said I don't have a problem with muslim's in general but if you are testing a weapon in the middle east right now you probablly aren't gonna get attacked by the Swiss Army.

The song...well, fair enough. I don't see the harm in it being a little cheesy, but othes may. Arab villains, in Afghanistan? Do you think they should make the villains Americans, and re-cast stark as an Arab instead...or what? That complaint confuses me. I also don't understand why they want a period piece flick so bad. I suppose you could chalk that up to slavish, unimaginative devotion to the source material. But holy fucking hell, choosing to not see a picture based on the fucking FONT in a teaser trailer. Jesus, your either joking, or a fucking spastic. Then again, the way this site carried on in the lead up, you would think this Teaser and all its content was the finished film.

The Comic Book had re-written the origin to Afghanistan

    by meta

In the latest version of the comic (non-ultimate), Tony got injured in Afghanistan. Back in the 80's it was Vietnam, back in the 60's it's Korea. Sure the Movie could have made it Bosnia or Somalia if they wanted to make it PC, but it's the modern world the Middle east is where we are now and the conflict is there. The movie didn't take any liberties that the comic book already did to update itself to this day and age. Except now it seems Stark's fellow prisoner isn't Asian anymore.

I dunno...serious "Robocop/Robocop 2" vibe, especially when you see baldy Malkovich tinkering away with his own villainous bigger, badder version. Golly gee, I wonder if that's the big finale showdown? Here's the plot in a nutshell: 1. Hero discovers (or in this case, builds) his superpowers, 2. Hero wows the ordinary citizenry with his superpowers and heroics, 3. Charismatic Archvillain with a complicated but evil plan becomes obsessed by Hero and his powers and comes up with his own version, 4. Archvillain traps Hero, beats the living shit out of him, leaves him for dead, 5. Hero pussies out and mopes for a while, 6. Hero recovers, and is inspired to take on Archvillain and beat the shit out of him in return. The End.

Stark is not really a douche in the origins. He's a spoiled idealistic kid in a old fashionned, patriotic way. He's an ass to the chicks only. But these years have been changed and retconned so many times that whichever way he's portrayed onscreen, no one could really say it's "spot on" or "off the mark" (same as the meaningless pro/anti Black Nick Fury feud): it's just an adaptation, a particular choice among many other possible ones.

But basically no, he wasn't *that* arrogant in the first years. Unreliable and reckless, but no gigantic asshole.

    by spencertrilby

it would have been awesome. AWESOME. But no dickless exec would ever greenlight it, not in this dimension.

I can't help but think guys like Bond or Stark lost half of their interest when the Berlin Wall fell apart. Someone earlier said it would be stupid because of the lack of advanced technology, to which I respond that unless comes May 2008 repulsor technology and miniaturized personal ramjets are developped (which I highly doubt), this assertion is irrelevant. I could suspend all my disbelief - and a bunch of yours - for a serious IM movie set in the 80's zeitgeist. Complete with Soviet Super Soldiers, a fight in the Czernobyl no man's land, and a victorious climactic battle on the top of the WTC. THAT would be a real american hero, without cheesy "Austin Powers" humour or cheap cynicism.

    by pokadoo

If it's not Linkin Park or Nightwish, it's generic Lord of the Rings-style rip off score with choir, cut to loads of flashing images you can't make out while individual title cards spell out "THIS. SUMMER. PREPAIR. TO. SHOOT. YOUR. LOAD. IN. TO. YOUR. OWN. FACE." Building up to a climax presumably designed to make veiwers go into a seizure. That was a refreshing teaser, and the film looks fucking ace!

trailer did not impress and why the backlash on Spidy3

    by theycallmemrglass

There is something very mundane about it. No soul. I also cant believe why Spiderman 3 is knocked so badly. Spiderman has always been about a geek who has super powers - the films delivered on that premise with soul, great action and humour. Superman Returns was not bad either, soul was there but humour was a bit forced but the action scenes were brilliant. I dont understand why such a major backlash on such great entertainment. Iron Man traile doesnt rock anywhere as those of Spiderman and Superman trailers - doesnt even come close to the Rocketeer trailer! So while I hope it will be a good movie I wont be hyped up for it based on this trailer.

Like I said, I really don't have a problem with showing Stark being abducted by Middle-Eastern terrorists in place of Vietnamese; especially given the politcal-economic background of IRON-MAN comics (if he wasn't fighting communists, he was fighting executives). As I was saying, maybe sometime in the near future we may get some movies that don't stereotype ANY ethnicity. Until then though, I'm just going to go ahead and look forward to this one. ^_^

is what makes it fun. It should make you laugh and say, "Haha, of course they had to use that!" See, it's sort of a joke. It, again, indicates that perhaps there is something "fun" about this movie. I guess for some comic book fans fun isn't allowed. Last time I read a comic draining any and all fun out of superheroes was the Identity Crisis/Infinite Crisis series. I dunno, I guess I just prefer my superhero tales free of decapitations, dismemberment and rape.

I thought that teaser was shit. It felt very ridiculous and really rubbed me the wrong way. Even the footage of Iron Man and the fighter jets (which was the coolest part of the teaser) was boring as hell! Were they flying with him? Attacking him? If you're going to tease us with an air fight at least show us a fucking missile chasing him or something that's actually cool! Hopefully i'm jumping the gun here. I realize it's just a teaser, but it was very dissapointing. And the music - pathetic and laughable! If anything this teaser has made me want to see the film less. The use of the Black Sabbath song is a little silly, yes. But to compare it to the 60's Batman and Spider-man theme songs is a tad unfair.
Because the Black Sabbath song, while perhaps not fitting the actual superhero at all, is still pretty badass. Whereas the 60's superhero theme songs are...kinda lame.
The song itself was fairly well used in the trailer. It's only when the title came up against "I am Iron Man" that I thought there were going to far.

The shitty thing about THE DARK KNIGHT...

    by spud mcspud

...is that the pseudo-intellectuals who worship at the balls of Chris Nolan (who, to be fair, is a damn good director) seem to be totally unaware of how stupid their love for BATMAN BEGINS actually is.

When BB came out, all you heard were reviews going on about how great it was to see some gritty realism in the Batman movies - more crime, less comic strip. A serious take on the serious nature of duality and the serious need to be toally serious about Batman.

IT'S A FILM ABOUT A FUCKING VIGILANTE WHO DRESSES UP LIKE A FUCKING BAT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Where the FUCK is the realism in THAT? It's inherently a very goofy concept! THAT'S why the best movie of all the Batman movies is BATMAN RETURNS: it took the mythos and used it to create villains that were at least as interesting as the protagonist. And at least Michael Keaton wasn't as fucking po-faced as Bale - come on, Bale, we know you can act, and act fucking well, but - YOU'RE BATMAN! HAVE SOME FUCKING GRATITUDE! HAVE SOME FUCKING FUN!!!!!

Why IRON MAN looks waaaaaaaaay better than THE DARK KNIGHT (fuckin' stupid title, by the way)is because the trailer seems to take the whole Lord-Of-War arms dealer-as-egotistical-scumbag thing, add the sardonic humour RDJ does so well, adds the origin story which makes him a bit less cocky, but also inspires the MK I armor - and does it all tongue in cheek! It's a kick-ass trailer that mixes modern political background with a fun asshole personality (RDJ as billionaire asshole? Awesome!) and adds the whup-ass as soon as you hear the first four notes of Sabbath. The mere fact that Sabbath is even ON the trailer means they know when to wink at the audience in htis movie.

IRON MAN will be a kick-ass flick with a heart AND a brain. I even think it'll make you laugh occasionally.

THE DARK KNIGHT will be a po-faced piece of navel-gazing portentous bullshit made by and starring a bunch of pseudo-intellectuals who don't seem to realise that this is ENTERTAINMENT! It's a FUCKING COMIC BOOK MOVIE! This is a man who has two identities, a sidekick who happens to be a young man (usually an orphan) who he has colluding with him in his vigilante endeavours AND NO-ONE THINKS HE MIGHT BE A PREDATORY AGGRESSIVE CLOSET HOMOSEXUAL!!!

Which is why you'll never see Robin in a Nolan Batman movie: he's not touching that with a fifty foot Bat-pole.

THE DARK KNIGHT should lighten the fuck up and get a life. IRON MAN is coming to kick the Dark Knight's ass!!!!!!

    by spud mcspud

...You know, the first two that were fucking identical in that (a) there was a piss-poor climactic fight instead of the mutant armies showdowns we'd come to expect from the comics, (b) at some point Ian McKellen HAD to say "the waaaaaaaaaaaaaar has begun," and (c) that were, unforgiveably, FUCKING BORING!!! And casting Jackman as Wolverine - a great, great actor, but a little - how do I put it? - "less than butch", when butch is what's required for Wolvie. Russell Crowe was choic #1, and he'd have been perfect, as would choice #2, Dougray Scott. Hell, put choice #300, Gerard Butler, in there. Anyone but Jackman.

X-MEN 3 was the only one of those movies that was fucking watchable. And it got flamed because Ratner made it! FOR FUCK'S SAKE!!!!

IRON MAN will rule. That is AAAAAAALL.

    by lerkst

I actually agree with some of his points, comic book movies should be fun, and toungue in cheek; the one reason I loved FF #1 so much. But, remember, Batman is supposed to be the alternative to this kind of comic---right from the Bob Kane beginnings...he got lighthearted in the 50's, but returned to his darker roots in the 70's. Then went over the top in the 80's. There is a strong, strong chance that Iron Man could trump the Dark Knight---I'm not so sure about the Joker, truthfully....

-the use of the Sabbath song was sheer genius--it actually got me excited about how Shellhead will sound when he speaks. I've read Iron Man all my life, and I'm telling you that this was a complete suprise; I was not expecting this focus on Stark. Thats always been the key---and Iron Man isn't even a vigilante, really. by milarc

True, Nolan's batman is more serious than your average comic book movie, but i think it's a magnificant approach. Batman needs to be soaked in a more 'realistic' world IMO. He's a dark character, and I've always felt Marvel comics have a more light-hearted approach to them, which makes their films more youth-oriented. Don't get me wrong, Marvel kicks ass, but I think TDK (awesome title, by the way!) is going to dominate over Iron Man come next summer!

    by laserpants

I agree that BATMAN needs to be dark/noirish, but as 'lighthearted' as SPIDERMAN or FANTASTIC FOUR can be (at times -- I wouldn't call much of the pain/struggle that Peter Parker goes through as lighthearted, he just runs through life with a sense of humor) there ain't nothing "lighthearted" about the core struggle in XMEN -- a story dealing with weighty issues such as bigotry, racism, sexism, genderism, genocide and the resistance agaisnt these evils.

It's just that, in print, I do find myself going off on one sometimes. There's room for people to give much love to Nolan's BATMAN, and I love Nolan's other stuff: I just wish Bale would lighten the fuck up and they could have a little fun with it. Stark=Arrogant Playboy/Wayne=Brooding Closet Homosexual

    by laserpants

One of Stark's defining characterists is that he's a womanizer; an ultra-heterosexual playboy (perhaps even a sex-addict). He's so over the top hetero, he even tried to f*ck that fatcow Laura Bush (in ULTIMATES vol.2)! And she's hideous! Wayne, on the other hand, never seems to have a girlfriend (even though he could take his pick of any number of women), has to be reminded by his butler to date supermodels so people won't ask questions, and has a tendency to run around with underage orphan acrobats. I don't think that makes him any less of a hero, but he definately comes off as a brooding closet homosexual.

In the editing. His speech, as presented in the Comic-Con footage, was awesome. Anyway, seriously, I hope this turns out good. Marvel has let me down so many times recently. Spidey 3, Ghost Rider (man, what shit), X-Men 3 and especially the Fantastic 4 Franchise. I can't even remember how FF2 ended it was such crap.
Avi, get off your Harley, and just make films that stick to the original stories. If you're gonna do FF 48 and 49, DO FUCKING FF48 and 49. Pretty bad when a late 1960s' FF cartoon is better than a
2007 CGI intensive Big Budget film. Even my boys (11 and 15) would rather watch the old cartoons. Why is so difficult to shoot a comic book movie. The script is right there in the comic, and it's loved by millions for decades. So, let's just fuck that up.

onset improv lines always seem better than they are

    by lettersoftransit

This has the feel of some onset improv. When those moments work, they always feel better to the crew than they do to the audience, because unlike the audience the crew was expecting something else and they have the tension release from seeing it go differently but still okay and that tends to make an okay moment feel to them like it's a great moment. Just a minor observation (and just watch someone tell me I'm wrong); nontheless the film looks promising. Stark may not have been a total dick in the early 60s origin story, but I always liked the way Dr. Strange was a total dick, or as Stan might have said, a dyed-in-the-wool dick. This brings some of that to the early material.

    Gave Me Goosebumps

That looks fucking awesome. I love the attitude at the start. That "Some people say the best sort of weapon is one you never use..." line. Utterly classic.

Th Invincible Iron Man animated cartoon

    by theycallmemrglass

Any watched that? I think all comic book heroes translates so much better on animation. This one is no exception - its superb with great voice acting. Spiderman, Justice League, Silver Surfer, Batman etc are all brilliant cartoons. Movies can never touch them.

Very high hopes for this movie

    by dasher

Trailer was great. I'm now 100% sold on Downey in this role. Iron Man has never been one of the A-list comic book heroes, but we all know that doesn't matter. The Mask, Men in Black, and Hellboy were lesser-known comics that became successful movies. Iron Man translates VERY well to film. I can't wait until May 2!

    While we're talking comicbook guys

    by lord_brixton

This here list - http://tinyurl.com/34wtdd - Is a roundup of comic book adaptations that is kinda funny, and has some underlying maths I don't understand which makes Constantine more successful than Superman!

*Yawn* Two thumbs down. What a shitty teaser.

I just hope the real trailer will blow my mind and psyche me up for this film, because right now i could care less about it. Please don't dissapoint, Favreau!

You obviously have never read Iron Man or have even the slightest inkling of what a great job this guy is doing with Kirby's vision. The Mark 1 suit is absolutely one of the greatest examples of comic to film accuracy ever, bar none, no discussion.
By the green deck shoes of Lou Ferrigno I lived through the Reb Brown Captain America era with Bill Bixby and gigantic web-shooter bracelets and to be subjected to piss-ant, spoiled bitch whiners like you makes me want to beat you down with all the vigor of a Sleestak on 'roids.
People like you don't deserve the work of fans like Favreau and Sam the Man.

How is this movie pro american?

    by dreadpirateroberts

So many people need to make sure everything is anti-american or they get all pissed off. Nothing there was pro or anti american. He was just an arms dealer giving his speal to his customer. What did you want him to do, spit on them? And as for the villains in the origin section being Arab, I follow just enough Marvel to know they just stuck to the current story. Looked like a lot of fun to me. Not epic, just a lot of fun.
