Thank God! It’s About Time For HAMLET 2!
Hey, everyone. ”Moriarty” here.
Variety broke the story last week, and several people have written in, excited about this next project from comedy legend Steve Coogan.
Coogan’s taken a bit of a shellacking in the press in the last couple of weeks by people determined to tie him to the whole Owen Wilson thing, but there’s no question that he remains one of the most justifiably lauded comic performers in England. I think the premise of this film is hilarious, and with Coogan starring and Pam Brady writing, it’s got real potential. I like Andy Fleming’s DICK... and I like that film he made with Kirsten Dunst, too, so consider me interested. This is one to keep an eye on as it develops:
Hi there
Just found this on one of the main comedy sites here in the UK, thought you maybe interested
Steve Coogan is to star in a new comedy movie called Hamlet 2.
The Saxondale comic will start shooting the film in New Mexico on September 17, ready for release in the autumn of 2008.
The plot revolves around a teacher who tries to save his school's drama department by writing and producing a sequel to Hamlet.
Andy Fleming, who directed this year's Nancy Drew film, will direct and co-write the script with Pam Brady, who previously worked on South Park and Team America: World Police.
Catherine Keener, from the 40-Year-Old Virgin, has been signed up to co-star, Variety reports.

Meta movies could be good but I'd rather see the return of the Prince of Dutchland.
-
Hamlet dies in HAMLET. That makes a sequel a pretty funny idea.
-
I actually thoguht they were making a serious Hamlet sequel... Now that I know though I'm liking this!
-
If this is half as funny as Tristram Shandy, count me in.
-
Sounds like a good premise.
-
I'm sure it will be funny, but the unapologetic title kinda demands that you make the comedic sequel itself. Not some flick about a guy who has an idea to make the sequel with h.s. drama kids. (Hmmmm???)
-
I wonder if Courtney Love will be in it as Ophelia?
-
I'm just asking. I mean it has been a while since the first Hamlet. 17 years, about. And Hamlet could have fathered a son in that amount of time.
-
he should have just twirled his mustache and said "ben stiller is next!"
-
Something is rotten in the state of Denmark, and Hamlet is taking out the trash.
-
sounds like a great idea...color me interested...but who's to be the lead, the ghost of hamlet?
-
@DerLanghaarige: R&GaD a sequel? Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are characters in Hamlet. Now, armed with that knowledge, read the title again...
-
but I wonder how you could make an interesting Hamlet 2 since everyone dies at the end of Hamlet 1.
-
that bit in last action hero still rates as one of the greatest things i have ever seen.

contest. Should be funny...

That is by far the most disturbing news of all. WTF!
-
Doesn't this already exist in written form? My High School did Hamlet 2 like 15 years ago, and if memory serves it was a Neil Simon play.
-
"To be or not to be, BROTHER!!!"
-
And if you listen reeeeeal closely you can almost hear pompus windbags like Harold Bloom blow a gasket over the very notion. Heh.
-
Made me rotflmao.
-
Although what Hamlet really needs is a prequel to show us how much of a whiner his father was when he won podraces and built Rosencrantz from scrap.
-
a highly underrated movie!
-
His movies and interviews and public appearences suggest one thing and the tabloids suggest another. He's a funny one.
-
Rented that video like 10 times when i was kid.
-
at the new Sony studio?
me in the ABQ and i gots to know!
-
. . .the conflict that erupted between Horatio and Fortinbras. (All right, all right, I know the movie is supposed to be a joke.) Will it be directed by Harold Hecuba? I ask to be or not be, that is the question that I ask of me.
-
Good one, Ingeld. I lol'ed at that. That's pulling some obscure Gilligan's Island shit out of your ass.

I don't know if the link will work on the talkback, but if you want go to: http://youtube.com/watch?v=OO2eEwoqzX4 You can laugh your ass off. It is hilarious. By the way, no one is better than Phil Silvers.
