JOHN RAMBO is back... to make them bleed!

Published at:  Sep 07, 2007 5:34:55 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... just got off the phone with John Rambo (aka Stallone) he's headed back to Thailand to carve a few more bastards up for his movie, but before he left the good US of A, he wanted to let me know about this piece of JOHN RAMBO that he broke at BREAK - but wanted all of you loyal Rambophiles to get a taste of. Seems he wants the film to go even further - and the studio agrees! Yea Lionsgate! The man sounds good!

What is it with showing just the violence?

    by dr_zoidberg

In trailers recently, RED BAND trailers for Alien Vs Predator 2, Beowolf and the original showreel for John Rambo. I like violence to be hard and bloody, but I don't want it all spoiled before I've even seen a properly edited trailer, never mind the full film. Yes, this does look fun, but it may have lost some of the coolness by showing it.

    Prolly not.

    by traumnovelle

Godfuckingdammit that shit looks GREAT. Bless your heart, Sly Stallone. This looks to harken back to the 80s action film glory days. Real manly, bloody, guns and knives and rivers of blood. When I eventually have children, it will be movies like this that I tell them they aren't allowed to watch, then purposefully leave a copy sitting out and go run some errands for a while in hopes that they disobey my wishes and catch their first glimmers of the way shit REALLY works. Its that very reason Predator, Rambo, Total Recall, Robocop, all that shit is so near and dear to my heart; cause my mom wouldn't let me watch them when I was little. I mean, I did anyway, but thats why they were so much more VISCERAL to me, because they were taboo and I could have been grounded. Anyway, I digress. This will be the best movie of the year.

I have kids (13 and 17) and that is exactly what I do. I mean, they need to see Heavy Metal, but how old do they need to be before I can show it to them, guilt-free? Answer: Pretend not to notice anything. It works wonders as a parent.

Same here. I'll be there opening night, but it's not the Rambo IV I've been wanting to see for over a decade. I also wish he had made this back in the 90's, when it still had a chance of being released by a major studio. It's a good thing they are aiming for a hard R rating, because otherwise, there would really be little of interest here.

BANGKOK, Thailand — Suspected Islamic militants gunned down a Buddhist ex-policeman and a migrant worker Sunday in the latest violence to hit Thailand's tense, mostly Muslim deep south, police said.

The provinces of Yala (search), Pattani (search) and Narathiwat (search) are the only Muslim-majority areas in predominantly Buddhist Thailand. The revival of a decades-old separatist struggle there is thought to be behind attacks that have left more than 500 people dead in the area this year.

I'll give Stallone credit for going balls to the wall violent. That doesn't make it a good film, but when films that should be R are cut down to a PG-13 it's nice to see someone is making films for adults, even if they're a little bit childish.

First Blood is a classic, II and III are bad beyond belief, but not in a good way. It seems this new one is gonna be a hit, as retarded guys love to see Rambo machinegunning Asians, Muslims and what not. I think Mr. Stallone is gonna lose a whole lot of credit in Hollywood, his chances of ever working with a really great director are pretty slim. Maybe he can do Hostel III with Eli Roth after this one or do House Of The Dead III with Dr. Boll.

Yes, I expect this movie to have "deeper meaning" as well. I mean, Stallone could not get away with just killing hundreds of Asians in gruesome ways only. Of course those gory killings are gonna be the sole reason why this movie is gonna be a big hit. But Stallone is no doubt gonna make it deep, profound and touching as well. Leave it up to him. JR looks great, Stallone is ahead of his game. Odd thing is, his Q&A on this site---fantastic. But, it was almost anti-climatic at the same time...I haven't seen a real attempt at one recently. Sure, Bruce showed up for a brief one, but nothing as groundbreaking as Sly. I think it would be a good idea to NEVER have another one---let Stallone's Q&A stand as what it is. Many a celebrity could take a lesson in respect and honour from Mr. Stallone. It's true.

I out of 4 Indonesians say support violent Jihad.
in a country of over 140 million, that is a pretty big number. And it one country. Not saying they are like that, but you can discount the daily violence in places like Thailand, the Philippines, Jordan, Morocco, Sudan, Somalia, India, East Timor, etc....
Plus I find it really funny we have to have a disclaimer on before "24" that says all muslims are not evil ...yadda yadda yadda.
Do you think Iran says "all jews really are not pigs or nazis" before they show their fine program about evil old Jewish doctors stealing the eyes from young muslims girls?
And just to finish, why did Osma become the most popular name in the muslim world? He ain't about violence, right? Nah.

And if the actual film is even half as enjoyable as that teaser, I'll be well happy. Not everything has to be high art, sometimes pure escapist entertainment is exactly what's called for, and I'm hoping that's what we'll get with this film.

    by darfurontherocks

But to paraphrase Nietzsche, Rambo needs to take care not to become one himself. Stallone's use of violence is very liberal. However, he does so in a rather conservative fashion. This level of violence is posited as being acceptable because the enemy are coloured and non-christian. Everything seems to be ok because he it defending missionaries. I wonder what would be the reaction he John J went to Palestine to protect the little kids from the onslaught of the IDF in their land grab?

What a silly comment. Humans are violent creatures by nature, violent films are cathartic. So I'd argue that watching screen violence is more likely to make you less violent in real life than the opposite. I abhor real violence, War is an abomination, but I still love seeing John J tear peoples throats out.

t’s Over the Top- but not arm-wrestlin'

    by shelbs

We’ve seen John in Action- but not like this. This is different. It’s Over the Top- and I ‘m not talking arm-wrestling here, fellas. Why is this film so much more gory and intense..?
Stallone’s a smart guy. People think he IS Rocky Balboa, a slurring, good-natured neanderthal. But that’s not him. That’s just one of the great characters he created. Sly himself has got an agenda: he’s got something to say: and I think in this movie, we can see, rather explicitly- what it is.
He’s saying, to his future audience, ”Oh-you like torture porn? You like to see marine’s smakin’ the sh*t out of Johnny foreigner? You want revenge for 9/11? Well try this. Come down and chomp some of this sh*t! Eat it up! I hope you gorge yourselves on this violence, you frustrated, corrupt Americans- and I hope you fucking’ choke. “
Freedom of speech is a beautiful thing! How d’you like them apples?
I keep thinking about the scene where Rambo turns the fifty-calibre mounted machine gun and shreds some anonymous wop to pieces. I couldn’t help thinking that John represents America (as Sly intended), and the guy at the wrong end of that sickly, fuck off gun is all those third-world people who tried to strand up for themselves- and we’re smacked down by the most powerful nation on earth, exercising their tremendous and terrifying power of over-kill: “I’m retribution- I am become death: and if you fuck with America, we will send all of your children to Kingdom Come..”

    by immortal_fish

Rocky, Rambo, Cobra, Dredd, Oscar... and these are only off the top of my head. The rating.

    by fenrisulfr

It's hard to believe this film will get an R-rating. The violence in there looks so realistic. The whole look of the film has some kind of documentary feel. It may very well be the most realistic depiction of the horrors of war released in a mainstream film. Noticed the 6 guerrileros grabbing that asian woman to rape her in the trailer? Or the bamboo stabbed in the leg wound?
Couldn't even count the dismemberments, decapitations, and bodies mangled by bullets. Saving Private Ryan looks like a PG-13 compared to it. Also, the critics will literally destroy the flick and STallone when it comes out, JOHN RAMBO will surely be labelled "sickening" and "racist".
Can't wait to see it, though. :-P

This is not a documentary style feature its an action film and action films are by their very nature violent. The accusation of racism are baseless too. Sly is not an extreme right wing goon. Its a shame people like Reagan tried to transpose their politics on to the Rambo character.

I have a feeling we are going to see a more talky, "sensitive" Rambo who wants to open up about not being accepted in grade school and being pranked to ask the hottest girl in school to the prom only to be rejected in a huge way, which causes him to snap. Or have feelings of inadequacy. Also, Rambo has a shirt on, that's like...like..a non-Yippee Ki Yay-saying John McClane.

You fail to realize that both Sly and Arnold are still THE KINGS OF THE ACTION GENRE (not yet dethrowned) and that their last films were HIT movies with ROCKY BALBOA and T3! And I dig Arnold as much as the next guy, but T3 was total crap and anyone who thinks otherwise has equally crap taste in movies. Besides Rocky, which wasn't too much of a hit, Stallone hasn't done anything worthwhile in...what...decades? Neither has Arnold either. Face it, pyscho, those two are action HAS-BEENS which isn't a bad thing, only an inevitability that both have reached. Of course, when they're dead (which won't be too far away) I am sure you'll still consider them the Kings of the Action Genre. How many restraining orders were placed on you today?

Who has replaced both Sly and Arnold? The answer: NO ONE! They have reached a peak that no other actor (or better yet MOVIE STAR) making action films today can reach...only be sadly compaired to! Maybe alot of their last several films have sucked like THE 6TH DAY, AVENGING ANGELO, DRIVEN, COLLATERAL DAMAGE, EYE SEE YOU, BATMAN & ROBIN etc...but both are giving the FANS what they want now with the amazing ROCKY BALBOA and T3. T3 might have been following James Cameron's two masterpiece movies, but it more than lived up to them which was a hard task to even try. As for ROCKY BALBOA...Sly is on a roll again with the critics kissing his ass again and having a hit that grossed some $70,269,899 in the U.S. alone! JOHN RAMBO is sure to hit about 100 million...If Arnold is not in T4, he will be back with some major movie! You can go see THE GAME PLAN if you like but JOHN RAMBO is what the fans will enjoy...

    by iamjack'suserid

...such thing as KINGS OF THE ACTION GENRE. Yes, Arnold and Sly had some good-to-great movies, but like Trautman said, it's "OVER!" People look for a different type of hero now, not the muscle-bound mindless killers of the 80's and early 90's. So you can go on with your rant about Kings and all of that pointless crap, but the fact of the matter is those two's better days are behind them...long behind them. You can't even be objective about it you're such a flaming eruption of fanboyism. See, I too am a fan of Arnold and to some extent Sly, but I acknowledge the fact that they are way out of their prime and despite some recent success on Sly's part, both have had very little success lately. Again, T3 was a piece of shit, and Arnold did NOTHING for it but show up and dress the part. Even Sly is acknowledging this by closing his two most successful franchises. Maybe it would take a visit from him to tell you to your fanboy face to convince you, but I doubt it. In the business, it isn't about what you did 20 or 30 years ago (the era you're apparently stuck in) but its about what you are doing NOW. I want Rambo to succeed, but that has NOTHING to do with having the brains to realize when something is dead. And to the suck a fuck guy, you aren't even worth a sentence so feel honored I am being generous.

First he was an un-dethronable action KING and now he is taking the chance to do something new? Which is it, loon? This may be attributed to your delusional nature, but no one said life ends at 60. However, for a convincing action star, it certainly isn't the beginning now is it? Why do you think Arnold chose a new path? Why is Stallone closing the chapter on his two most successful franchises? Both men were not doing it anymore, with Sly only having Rocky and Rambo to pay his bills, despite the fact that neither franchise was perfect. There were only a few good Rocky movies and the third Rambo was junk. The last good Arnold movie was what? True Lies? T2? Its been so long ago who remembers? Your medication jokes about me were cute at first but now it's old. Give it a rest, people get what you are trying to say about me being a major Arnold and Sly fan. You're not funny anymore, you're now pathetic. Now back to movie talk little man...the bottom line is: STALLONE is back because ROCKY BALBOA put him back, and he will hit even harder when JOHN RAMBO is released. Best years behind him or not, the man put himself back on top of Hollywood. Is he older now than in the 80's? Obviously you fucking moron. But is that what matters? NO you dip shit! The fact is, Stallone is a great filmmaker/director and he can do like Eastwood and direct himself in his own films. He doesn't need the studios anymore. All he needs is outside financiers, then a studio will gladly pick his film(s) up to distribute. You do understand Hollywood right? Ofcourse you DON'T. That's not to say the studios won't be going after him for some roles after JOHN RAMBO proves he's still got what it takes, even as you would say "his best years are behind him."....As for Arnold, the man has ALWAYS wanted to govern California and it was a great chance when the recall happened. If a recall wasn't around in 2003, he would have made KING CONAN and TRUE LIES 2 already. So your moronic comment about "why do I think Arnold entered politics" statement is as dumb as you are. anyone else find this weirdly depressing?

    by slappy jones

the desperation of it all??? especially after rocky balboa which I really thought was a great film ... it just looks to me stallone (who I like a lot and always have...totally robbed of an oscar for copland as far as I am concerned as he is fucking amazing in that) but its like he didn't understand the message of his own film....which I thought had a lot to do with going out with your pride and dignity. letting go of the past and accepting the future and he goes and makes this ridiculous looking thing. this trailer of whatever it is looks like what people imagine these types of films to be if they have never seenone if that makes any sense? likepeople who hate these types of rambo violent action films in their heads imagine them to be this over the top with violence as this trailer suggests....but they never were THAT violent. this looks it is bordering on becoming hot shots 3 it is so ridiculous and I find it all a bit sad.

Criticism of the Film's subject is Valid....

    by darfurontherocks

People are talking about how the Burmese government is evil and deserve the fictional bloodletting that John Rambo brings, but seem never to consider why only coloured peoples are the only ones ever demonized in action movies. I would like to see an action movie where a hero saves the oppressed people of Palestine against the IDF. However, that is not going to happen because they are our buddies. All of this violence that Rambo dishes out seems to be acceptable because he is protecting Christian missionaries. You would have thought that a character that is part Cherokee might have a problem with those missionaries...

Sly, what happened to the classic RAMBO soundtrack?

    by ccdev

Sly, i sure hope you put the classic Rambo theme in the movie (teh teh tehh tehhh, teh teh tehhh tehh tehhh...), sure wouldn't be the same without it.

    Speaking of the soundtrack....

    by bobo_vision

...I found this on youtube. Someone added music to the John Rambo trailer. I find this kind of eerie, actually. http://tinyurl.com/yvmn3u

Stallone has NOTHING to offer but steroids & cheap gore

    by proman1984

and cheap stereotypes of course. As all you Silverstorewhores are jerking of to your hero please keep in mind that he isn't going back to Thailand to add more stuff to the movie, he is going back for re-shoots, more steroids and whatever shit he uses to dye his hair black. That and you are all pussies.

    DarfurOnTheRocks.....

Rambo is also helping indigenous people who are victims of an oppressive regime. That why the missionaries go in there in the first place, not to convert everyone to fucking Christianity.

Besides it is clear that this film will deal with Rambo's curse of being a perfect killing machine.

DarfurOnTheRocks, the race card is a loser in this case

    by cyclo

Ever heard of Die Hard? Who were the villains in that movie? Whites. Who were the villains in Lethal Weapon? Whites. Who were the villains in Raiders of the Lost Ark? Whites. Who are the villains in most every James Bond movie? Whites. Who was the villain in Superman Returns? A White. Who was the villain in Spiderman? A White. Who were the villains in Batman Begins? Whites. Who is the villain in Rob Zombie's Halloween? A White. Who is the villain in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre? A White. Who is the villain in A Nightmare on Elm Street? A White. Who is the villain in the Friday the 13th series? A White monster. Stop thinking in terms of race. If you actually watched movies, you'd know there are more white villains in Hollywood action movies than any other race -- by far.

    Refuting Proman1984...

    by cyclo

Stallone weighed 178 lbs for Rocky and 165 lbs for Rocky III. That's not evidence of steroid use, so what fucking evidence do you have? Oh, that's right. None whatsoever.

Yeah, Moby Dick was White Also...:)

    by darfurontherocks

The quantity of negative white vs. coloured representation is not the concern here. Rather it is the overwhelming misrepresentations of the "other" that is relevant. Bennett in Commando did not pass himself off as a religious nutjob to Matrix. However, cue True Lies and we see that all members of the Crimson Jihad are sprouting silly ideological rhetoric. I suggest you watch Planet of the Arabs on Youtube for some more highlights. Stop thinking that we have moved beyond propaganda in our news and movies... and acknowledge that purposeful misrepresentation of other cultures on both ends still exist.

Stallone Got Busted in Austrailia for HGH

    by darfurontherocks

Come on! I have no problem with that. It is his body, and he has made a choice. But to deny that Sly has gotten some "help" is extremely naive.

I don't think anybody knows what they just witnessed. This is pure RAMBO at his best. This is what raw power and fury is all about.
