Faith The Vampire Slayer Makes Her 'Season 8' Debut Today!!
I am – Hercules!!
Just a reminder that issue six of Joss Whedon’s “Buffy The Vampire Slayer: Season Eight” hits the comic-book stores today.
The new issue is scripted by “Lost” writer and comic-book vet Brian K. Vaughn ("Y: The Last Man"). It begins a new story arc focusing on Faith the Vampire Slayer and re-introduces at least one character we got to know from the series’ UPN years.
MTV.com has a story on the matter, a story which notes that Vaughn was originally approached by Whedon to script a “Faith The Vampire Slayer” direct-to-DVD movie that fell apart due to money issues; Vaughn is now incorporating his ideas for that project into the funnybook.

garibaldi shot first.

yeah second

The character of Faith provides perhaps the strongest possibility of a 'successful' TV spin off. With the 'Fox' thing recently, here's hoping that there is still a chance.
-
the hack has you stuck up his ass.
-
...that the comics are a TV series. You need to let go, man. I thought this was news of a Faith TV series.
-
On TV? Come one people, Eliza Dushku (spelling?) can't be that busy, and as far as I know Joss is doing very little too. The time is ripe. I miss these shows.
-
Bugs me to no end though that spin offs and movies that have a lot of potential can't seem to get off the ground.
-
I continue to refuse that it's canon. It's like they took everything that was weak about Season 7 and continued along that vein.
-
...something more "official" like a TV movie or film project comes along to contradict it. And since Whedon himself is writing and acting as "showrunner" for this series, you might as well accept it. I mean, if you could accept those crappy Seasons 6 & 7 as canon, then this should be an automatic given.
-
Season 6 was not crappy, the fact that many Buffy fans think it was just shows how terrible their perception of "good" is. 7 was crap though. It was very very rushed when it came out it was the last season. They should have just ended it like the comic with Buffy disappearing and all the evil on earth dying with her. They where obviously going for it with the sheer number of references to Fray, but then it just got warped.
-
Unless the writing and art get much better, I guess. Even then, it's like the New WKRP in Cincinnati.
-
Let's be real, folks...that's the only question that matters. Ms. Dushku always struck me as one who could easily suck the chrome off'a trailer hitch.<p>Waitaminnit...that was damned near all the chicks on that show. I correct myself.
-
It really is an amazing show. Really.
-
Sorry, thought this argument was over. The comic *IS* season 8...you don't have to like it. I just don't understand how you could be interested in 'Faith' and would have been interested in a show, but refuse to read the EXACT SAME ADVENTURE in a comic book. Must be too 'mature' for the medium or something (?)
-
I'm all over the Buffy coloring books, though.
-
pride of baghdad, y: the last man, ex machina, and the list goes on...
-
Nothing against the comic per se, I just hate Herc's relentless cheerleading of it, pretending that it's a TV show when it clearly isn't. When I see a headline in the TV column about "Buffy Season Eight," I might reasonably expect it to be about an eighth season of Buffy on, y'know, TV.
-
Thems fightin' words bub!
-
It really is a better show.
-
The cheerleading you speak of can, and will, become even MORE relentless. I think it is hilarious.
-
Picked it up at lunch - great as always, just too damn short!
-
...is it just me or was that David Tennant as Doctor Who with Rose in panel 1 of page 32?
-
But Mad Men is still baller.
-
Ok, ok. I know who he is, but... does he really deserve all the attention you people give him in this site?
-
clearly he does not.
-
That is all.
-
But it never fails to amuse me when you guys start bitching about AICN giving too much attention to certain projects or creators. Why would they have to take your taste and personal preferences in account. If they want to run a story about Eliza Doshku's slightly bigger left boob, or the size of Whedon balls, and how they lick them they fucking will. If you're not interested in an article don't read it. If your not interested in most articles, don't come to the site.
-
Herc's already said that he gives too much attention to Whedon, and if it bothers you stop reading coax. It bothers me a little that we get fake whedon rumors instead of a talkback for Damages, Eureka, or Madmen, but I'm still here and dealing.

I know I don't...
-
No? Then I'm not interested.
-
The next post will be someone complaining about people that complain about people complaining about people complaining. Mark my words.
-
on Mad Men I guess.
-
Only really, really awesome moment from the comics so far in my opinion. Strange that Whedon would ask Vaughn to write the Faith movie, rather than himself (he could take the time to write a 2 hour script), or Goddard, who seems to have become the next-Whedon.
-
I'm sorry, I never watched one episode of Buffy during it's initial run but my girlfriend had only one show she watched on a regulr basis(you guessed it) and eventualy she got me into it. While in the service I watched alot of Angel dvd's during down time, it became my all time favorite. If Whedon loves his fans at all he will make a Angle tv movie happen.
-
Every episode up until Bring on the Night (almost half the season) is so, so good. But then everything just became repititous and treading water. Did we really need "Touched"? No, we didn't. And having Buffy find a Turok-han incredibly hard to kill, and then having Anya and Xander killing them was just foolish. Why was it even a danger if the vampires got out of the Hellmouth, into the school? It was DAY. These vampires were still killed by the sun, weren't they? Also, Buffy probably looked worse in comparison while Angel was putting on season 4, and arguably some of the best stuff (excluding the Cordelia stuff) that they had ever done.
-
Anyone notice the Doctor and Rose cameo? Nice one...
-
Buffy became such a whiny bitch in the later seasons. Faith was a bitch too but she was a FUN bitch!
-
I wouldn't exactly call 'Damages' slumming - just look at the cast - Ted Danson, Glen Close, Tate Donovan and me lovin some Rose Byrne. Also created by a Sopranos writer and used some of the same directors (I believe). Anyways, I find the writing/ directing really sharp, and I'm loving the show just as much as MM.
-
since she signed a contract with Fox TV - even though Tru Calling was cancelled and her Grey's Anatomy ripoff pilot (Nurses) didn't make the cut, they have a 6 figure development deal with her. And as much as I love Joss's work in the comics, I think overall Vaughan is a better comic writer in terms of overall plot and theme. So I'm definitely looking forward to this arc. <p> And how come every time there's a talkback for the Buffy season 8, some idiot comes on here and says 'I thought this was a tv show. Bitch...moan...grumble.' Time to crawl out from under the rock. It's a comic. Joss considers it canon. You can accept that if you want or you can stamp your foot and hold your breath. Good luck with that.
-
She's a smoker. And I stand by what I said about her suckin' the chrome off'a trailer hitch.<p>Yeahboy.
-
Bitch...moan...grumble.
-
also the southern-accented attorney who's also in a bunch of law and orders...so yeah. I kid, I kid. But seriously I've like Rose Byrne in everthing I've seen her in, especially Sunshine and 28 Weeks Later. Super cute.
-
It would've kept the Buffyverse franchise going, and it already had a larger fanbase than Firefly. Angel: had 5 seasons. Firefly: blink and you missed it. Also, Underworld and Blade were franchise hits (except for blade 3 but it probably made money on video), so there was a vampire action franchise to capitalize on. To stretch even more, supernatural thrillers like Constantine and horror flicks were (are) getting greenlit all the time. Instead Whedon chose to make Serenity...a movie that even Whedon admitted would be a tough sell to moviegoers.
-
not that whedon's weren't good, because they were, but vaughan clearly has a better grasp at writing COMICS than whedon does. joss may have his characters down, but his comic style needs work. (i think that applies to his x-men work as well). vaughan really wrote a kick ass book here, and i can't wait to see what's next.
-
I missed out on issue number 5. Still, love Faith! Have we ever learned her last name? On a much more serious note, a person who was truly gifted, the great Pavarotti, died today.
-
Anybody have a big preference? I ended up subscribing to get both copies not being able to choose one. Two completely different styles...the last cover with the Buffy mask was amazing! Favorite cover so far for me is the Joan Chen one of Willow (issue #3 or #4)
-
I've always preferred Angel too. Probably been mentioned here on the site 200 times already, BUT...the new season is called "After the Fall.' Hopefully every issue will have a variant cover of Illyria by a different artist every month.
-
Lehane. Whedon had to come up with one for a video game or something.
-
The series ended perfectly - why screw that up?
-
But they are continuing the story in comic form (courtesy of IDW), which indicates that there are more stories to tell. Joss and co even said that season 6 would've taken place after the apocolypse. I understand that Joss wanted to explore Firefly, and he wanted to make it up to his cast for the untimely cancellation. However, I still think it was bad timing. He should've went with his bigger success...then with an actual hit movie under his belt (even just a modest one) he could THEN persue the Firefly movie. Even if Serenity still tanked, we'd at least have the Buffyverse alive and kicking in live action form. In Hollywood, you're only as good as your last hit.
-
I have the Jeanty covers for #1-4 and like his cover for #6 too but i went with the Chen one this time: it's just too damn good.
-
for the whole comic (all 26 issues)to be available as one large coffee table book.

yes, that sound you heard was my head-exploding when i saw the next chen cover.
-
First and for most: I bought the Serenity DVD CE from this site but the blooper reel is the same from the last DVD. But I was sent a early segment by 'puter, when the show had ended, which showed a blooper reel that showed Captain Mal in a tracking shot around a coffin of one of his "campadres" which was one of the most fucking funny scenes I have ever witnessed. I KNOW there are more outtakes: Why not shoW them? <p> Second, this arguement of Buffy vs Faith - Who is better? - has already been answered. Buffy won. <p> It's canon... <p> It's not hard to read between the lines that Joss was getting frustrated with SMG and the SMG was thought she was getting shuffled back because of the Dark!Rosenberg storyline. S6 sucked for Buffy but was great for the supporting cast. Jealousy ensues. <p> I am also of the mind of Jedi: I'll wait for the "big book" of Season 8. I am too old to be piece mealing shit. And if I die before I wake, at least I don't know what I'm missing...
-
It's one of those 24-hour dealies that Herc is always talking about, so get yer mitts on it if you haven't already.
-
Are we just finding gold now? Gold is just everywhere??
-
Cereal. I've laid out about three bones on this cheque. But if Herc can give the "bob's your uncle" whenever the Homicide: Life On The Streets complete set is on sale - Eternal Gratitude. <p> I miss me some Bayliss and Pembletom action.
-
Personally I think the finale was damn good. Most of the things that happen are pretty damn shocking even for a finale... but yeah, it blows my mind that with all the C R A P on TV today that a cable channel, PAX TV or CW, or SOMETHING wont backroll Whedon. For the sake of Pete, he has BUILT in cult audiences, just tell him keep it cheap, double the DVD prices and PROFIT, and ENJOY THE DAMN STORIES, whats wrong with you people in TV?
-
Jo Chen is an amazing talent. Georges Jeanty's art is kind of amateurish. Comic companies always make the same mistake with adapting movie or tv projects. Usually, they get mediocre artists just because they have some talent with drawing likenesses. Jeanty isn't even consistent, some drawings will look like the actors (where I suppose he has photo reference) and then they look totally different on the same page sometimes. For comics, they should worry about getting great artists and not so much about the likenesses. Unless, you have someone like Jo Chen, who has it all...
-
Y: The Last Man was fantastic. MAKE THIS MOVIE NOW! Stoopid Hollywood.
-
I didn't buy that show right away. Y: The Last Man will hopefully make a great film. I hope Vaughn is involved in the script. I still want my 100 Bulletts TV show goddamnit! Hell, the only television I watch anymore is The Daily Show, Mad Men, and Lost. That's it. Assuming all three are playing on a given week, that's only four hours of television worth watching. WTF!
-
Matthew Fox as Mitchell Hundred, anyone?
-
I still think it would make a much better series than a movie. With the constraints of a movie I can almost guarantee it would be nothing but wasted potential. Besides I've heard the script so far practically mimics the comic, so no new suprises for the fans. As for this week's issue, let's just say they never cease to shock me. Now someone kill that Alter bitch.
-
I'm super serial.
-
I don't care--Faith The Vampire Slayer has to happen eventually. Maybe Faith The Cougar Vampire Slayer is a possibility in 20 years or so.
-
I had a mini geekgasm when I saw the Doctor and Rose walking through London
-
I get some of your amazon cut now, right?
-
that tracking shot of the funeral with nathan fillion showing up is a blooper from Firefly and thats why it isnt on the Serenity discs. i'm assuming by that one scene you mentioned that you probably watched the Firely reel as well. as for Angel's ending, this was never a last minute thing. thats the exact ending the show was gonna have, they didnt change squat. of course, they were hoping there'd be a season 6 so the ending was originally gonna simply be a cliffhanger for the "apocalypse 6th season". but when they found out they were indeed cancelled, instead of making rushed changes and whatnot, Joss decided to leave it as is and just do the ending they planned.
-
actually there was one small change made. apparently had it simply been a season ender instead of series ender, Gunn was gonna die and Wesley would have survived.
-
Something tells me Gunn ain't gonna live too far into Whedon's upcoming Angel Season 6 comic. He looked like that Senator Vampire and her brood kicked the shit outta him...
-
It is a DAMN SHAME we'll never see Eliza Dushku decked out in the green dress ala the last panel.
-
Is a ripoff of Buffy! From the art style by the artist responsible for the Buffy TAS concepts to the "What's the sitch?" catch phrase. Nuff said.
-
I'll take Vaughn anytime. His Buffyverse sounds more Buffy than the Buffy man's.
