THE IRON MAN TRAILER IS ON ITS WAY!!!

Hey folks, Harry here... Jon Favreau just posted the following on his MySpace IRON MAN group:

For those of you who have been Jonesing to see the Comic Con footage, we now an official teaser trailer that incorporates much of the same imagery. Paramount is debuting the piece in its entirety across the Viacom Network's highest rated programs. The first appearance will be immediately before the Hills on MTV on 9/10. I've listed the schedule of other slots that Paramount marketing has sent me below. A hi-res version will appear on Apple.com/trailers on 9/11 for those of you who, for whatever reason, choose not to TiVo The Hills. Comedy Central: The Daily Show 10-Sep MTV: The Hills 10-Sep (the break leading into the show) Spike TV : CSI 11-Sep VH1: The Rock Life 10-Sep BET: Baldwin Hills 11-Sep CMT : Trick My Truck 10-Sep Logo : Rick & Steve 11-Sep MTV2: Room 401 10-Sep NAN : Fresh Prince 10-Sep The N: Fresh Prince 11-Sep TV Land: Andy Griffith 11-Sep

My recommendation is THE DAILY SHOW as it's the coolest Viacom Show to support. Besides - that's the end of reruns. Now - the idea is - that it won't hit online till the Glorious QUICKTIME debut on September 11th!!! But you and I both know that internet terrorists and freedom fighters will get that baby up faster than a 74... faster than 74 repulser rays can fire... yeah! So beginning Monday night - look for it online - then when that GLORIOUS HD QUICKTIME hits - we'll pounce! Right?

    Over-hype???

    by jimbojones123

For some reason I keep feeling this is being way over hyped. Isn't this like having a Hawkman movie in the DC universe?

I think we need an existential themed superhero movie with cubist sensibilities. You know, just to shake up the genre a bit. I nominate Deadpool.

    over hyped?

    by Bouncy X

I think Iron Man is a little more well known than Hawkman or... well, any of the DC characters besides Batman or Superman.

    Can't wait!

    by Rakafraker

Hype/schmype. I loved the comic as a kid and always thought Iron Man should be a big-budget feature. I got my wish. I just have to sit back, relax, and wait for it to come. I hope for the best, but expect the worst (that's why Spiderman 3 wasn't TOO awful for me!).

    Iron Man = Daredevil.

    by jimbojones123

Is that a fair comparison. In the Marvel Universe you can put Spidey, Wolvie, Cap, Hulk, Xavier all above Iron Man. I'd say Iron Man is a full step above Blade, but also right on par with Punisher. In the DC Universe, I guess Hawkman was a little low. Green Lantern would be about right on par though.

  • Sept. 5, 2007, 9:23 p.m. CST

    Agreed Jimbo

    by Bartleby T. Scrivener

I would agree that Punisher, Daredevil, and Iron Man are on the same level. Although, I would think that the Green Lantern would be above Iron Man.

  • Sept. 5, 2007, 9:24 p.m. CST

I wasn't sold on the Iron Man feature

    by jimbojones123

And I've really been confused as to how this could be considered Mega Blockbuster? I also admit that I've been shocked at how Rocketeersishly excited this has made me as well. It does seem like the studios are finally taking things seriously. I just hope we don't have an Iron Man flying around under bridges hiding from tanks a la Transformers backyard scene. I will say this, they are following through beyond anything I had expectations for. Retrocool is in full effect.

    by jimbojones123

Yeah, I guess we're looking between Hawkman and Green Lantern then. Does such a level exist in the DC Universe? Yeah, go ahead and sound the Nerd Alert. I can handle it. Lantern would be more of a Cyclops. Hawkman more of a Blade. I'd say the Martian, but since he never has had his own stand alone series, he'll always be a side note. I guess you could say that Iron Man has no equal.

Also, regarding famous people's Myspace accounts

    by TheSeeker7

It always just makes me laugh when I happen to hear of or see that someone even relatively famous has literally THOUSANDS of official "friends" on their myspace. Honestly, why do the "regular people" even bother to be added to them? You're literally (sorry to use it twice) just a # in that case, what, you think Jon Favreau is gonna see your name among the masses and decide he wants to be real actual friends with you? He doesn't know who 98% of those people are, nor does he care (& I don't blame him). It just gets laughable when the numbers are up that high, it means nothing to be a part of that group. So really, what's the point of being added? It just seems so silly.

    by BrooseTheScharuk

...the Comic Con footage was just so right. I think a lot of people are going to be really surprised by this movie next year, including those who think summer 2008 will belong to TDK (and I'm basically one of those people!). Not only does the suit stuff -- prototype as well as the Mach III or whatever it's called -- come off sublimely cool, but the character stuff with Downey looks as good as the stuff you'd find in a movie that didn't have painfully cool robotic suits and giddily awesome superheroics to pull in an audience; he's got such a magnetic screen presence, and a way of owning and riffing on the dialogue that makes you buy him right away. I can't wait for next May. Hey, that rhymed.

and this should be great. I was skeptical of Favreau at first given his association with the abortion that was Daredevil (God, please, a do-over!) but everything sounds wonderful and the cast is rock solid. It looks like a serious, adult-minded adaptation a la Begins or even, dare I say it as the film's sole remaining fan, The Hulk. Pair this with an Avengers film with Matt Damon as Cap and you have gold.

Don't mess with the Iron, Man!

    by oisin5199

Iron Man is one of the most popular Marvel characters, founder of the Avengers (it doesn't get more 1st string than that!), and now one of the most important and ubiquitous Marvel characters with Civil War, the Initiative, World War Hulk or whatever. All you people who think Iron Man is a 3rd tier character are on crack! You show your ignorance about the history of the Marvel universe and certainly aren't reading many Marvel comics right now. There's a reason why he's in almost as many books as Wolverine! He's one of the big 5 iconic Marvel heroes - including Spider-Man, Capt. America, Hulk, and Wolverine. And he's the main mover and shaker in the Marvel universe right now. Read a freakin' comic book.

    Adam Baldwin=Deadpool

    by Spaced_and_Confused

I would give anything to see a Deadpool flick. Imagine Wade Wilson with a mask/prosthesis that would allow him to emote as he does in the comics (bugging eyes/brows, mouth clearly visible). After watching a lot of Firefly I've decided that Adam Baldwin (Jayne)was born to play Deadpool. Think about it, they have the same physical build, both can be very funny and equally intimidating, and Baldwin can hit that voice, wonderfully described as "equal parts gravel and gasoline". They don't even have to break the fourth wall blatantely, a crafty writer could throw in the right winks here and there, but it does have to be an action-comedy. A super serious scenario that is impossible to take too seriously because, well, it's Deadpool. Oh, and Steve Buscemi as Weasel

Marvel character going today. He's kindof a fascist, but with the best intentions; a raging powerholic who shifted his taste for Johnny Walker to a taste for benevolent empire. Although I sided with Cap during the Civil War (yes, I know its a comic book, but sides still had to be chosen in geekdom), and think Tony was being a dick, I think his character is more interesting and that the whole IRON MAN: Director of Shield book is kewlness and kickass.

I was trying to say thats what I thought people here meant when they said Iron Man was a lower tier.

Iron Man is the best Marvel character for film

    by GreatCzarsGhost

Of all the Marvel characters the Golden Avenger is the best one for film. You don't have to tone down the costume because of fear it will look "to comic bookish". In fact Iron Man's costume is something you want to tone way up for his movie because it defines the hero. Oh they will talk about the man inside the armor but we all know this story is about the armor the man wares. And besides, Tech shit just looks great in movies. One need look no further than this years big hit that more then meets the eyes for conformation on this subject. <P> Iron Man will be big.

Just watched the comiccon footage on youtube

    by liljuniorbrown

After being fooled twice by some dumb shit, this bootleg quality video of the footage was awesome. I can not wait to see IronMan and The Dark Knight. Kind of worried that the Dark Knight might be getting into Ang Lee's Hulk territory with all of these fake Batman hangings and shit but so far it looks like these two movies are going to make us comic geeks very happy people.

    Popularity doesn't mean shit...

    by rotgut1

Look at Blade... when they announced they were making *that* movie, did you really expect it to be kick ass? Seriously! And on the other hand, you have HULK, a character so widely known that my 80 year-old mom knows it. And that movie disappointed a whole hell of a lotta people. So there you go.

source material either, I think it's a match made in heaven. "Guy kicks ass in robosuit" - there's your blockbuster recepie. However, as much as I'm psyched for it, I can totally see Dark Knight failing at the box office somewhat.

    I had mixed feelings about

    by Mattyboy122

The Comic-Con footage. Downey surprised me as a good choice for Stark, but what I didn't like was the sequence showing Stark breaking out of the cave in Afghanistan. The action was so over the top, it was cartoony (Iron Man hits a guy and he goes flying twenty feet, for example). However, after Iron Man's escape they showed a quick montage of footage from the rest of the film, and this looked fucking awesome. The first practical shot of Stark in the Mark III literally had me yelling out "YEAH!", it looked so bad ass (along with everybody else watching the footage, I'm sure). So I'm looking forward to this flick, hopefully this teaser kicks ass.

    Exactly Blind

    by Bartleby T. Scrivener

No one is saying he isn't an integral part of the universe in comics, it's no one outside of comics, and other fandom, would know who Iron Man is. It's going to be tough sell. Robert Downey Jr. doesn't exactly spell box office. And Favreau hasn't proved anything yet. I'm just saying, everything looked golden for Hulk and Superman Returns, until they came out in the theatres.

But People DO Care About Quality Film/Stars/Directors

    by Read and Shut Up

Which is why Iron Man WILL be a hit. The movie's littered with quality people, from the director on down. It doesn't matter what "superhero" tier Iron Man resides on - the fact is the movie is being made WITH quality people BY quality people. That alone will fill the seats.

    Read is right

    by strosmer

If this summer proved anything, it's that people still enjoy going to the movies. Summer of '08 promises to be even more successful because we're looking at better crafted films. Iron Man, Dark Knight, and Indy 4 will all be huge hits. Come to think of it, I will need to invest in a few pairs of Depends for I have no doubt I will be shitting myself during all these movies (i.e. when Iron Man hits that sonic boom - KABOOM! - right in my pants). Oh yes, can't wait.

    This looks really good...

    by football

This is my all time favourite Marvel character and I'm glad they've got some major talent involved in this film. The flying scenes look great and way better than the borefest of Superman Returns. I'm so sold on this...

  • Sept. 6, 2007, 6:34 p.m. CST

    No one is saying...

    by Bartleby T. Scrivener

that this movie cannot meet and exceed expectations. But this movie should be approached with caution. Superman Returns, for example, had EVERYTHING going for it: quality cast, big-time director, AND a recognizable figure...the movie fell flat on it's face.

  • Sept. 6, 2007, 7:09 p.m. CST

    Strosmer, I'm nitpicking but...

    by SpencerTrilby

if this summer proved something, it's that people still enjoy crappy threequels^^ <p> Back to topic, as some people said it's slightly over-hyped. IM is not a pop icon, it will be a tough sell and the comic-con footage had as many things right (the armors in motion, the overall look) than wrong (the tone, especially). <p> Now, the tone was aimed at cosplayed guys attending the event; the teaser coming next week (btw "if you happen to choose not to TiVo" was humorous, I can't think he was serious about this) will be tweaked for the mainstream audience. The comparison will be VERY interesting and revealing of the producers whereabouts and their demographic expectations. If they keep the lousy jokes in it and don't spill a lil' more armored action, my guess is that it means a marketing campaign geared toward kids and teenagers (because of Speed Racer and Narnia coming May 9th).<p> The comic-con footage was for the fans, but the teaser REALLY means business. I *really* hope it'll correct some of my dislikes about the Con demo.

    Iron Man in Collective Subconcious.

    by jimbojones123

As a kid, we had a Kirby vacuum. It was red and plaid. <P> http://tinyurl.com/2hlvfo <P> It would run and as kids we called it Iron Man. Never knew why. The legend of "Iron Man" grew over the years. When I finally discovered that there was an actual "Iron Man" that was red just like the Kirby, I told my parents. They had never heard of Iron Man. <P> So at some point, maybe during Spiderman and his Amazing Friends, or from one of my very few Spidey comics as a pretween I had picked up on what Iron Man looked and sounded like. <P> So even today, I can't help but thinking of that Kirby every time I see Iron Man. And even today, every time I see Iron Man, I think, he sucks.

    OTish - Superman Returns

    by jimbojones123

Watching on HBO right now. When Clark and Jimmy are at the bar and hear of the plane troubles, Clark's "Ahh.........Fuck...." look genius. I love his reluctancy to jump back into things. That is where Comic Adaptations are golden. By setting in the Middle East AGAIN, they are setting it up to be a "what-if" in the "real world" type movie. Make it tie to reality if you are going to do that. Not Flame Broiled Whopper billboards or Hide and Seek Robots in the back yard.

    Quicktime's not so glorious

    by Doc_Strange

Seriously, I only have Quicktime to view these trailers. Why can't these film companies just make a .wmv or .avi trailer for media player? They can still be hi-rez and play much better with lower system specs than Quicktime. The mind boggles.

  • Sept. 7, 2007, 6:14 a.m. CST

    'bout freaking time... and QuickTime...

    by Freefinger

THank you Favreau for finally showing us a piece of your work. Hopefully, we'll go nuts and ravage some town by breaking windows and destroying lamp-posts to show our crazy emotions about the Trailer.... <p>I'm really hoping the newly created Marvel Studios will get this one as right as possible, and let us forget about some of the firt Hulk movie; Daredevil; Electra and X3: Ratner's last Crappy Stand. <P>O' rejoyce dear friends, Favreau will pevrail.<P><b>Now Quicktime.</b>Glorious??? Nope. Ain't that great. As Doc_Strange mentions the damn thing ain't working that great and they're way too heavy compared to other formats who provide great quality playbacks in HD.<P>I never watch anything else than trailers with the damn thing, why does it even exist?

  • Sept. 7, 2007, 6:33 a.m. CST

    and jimbojones123..

    by Freefinger

..are you saying Superman Returns is actually good?? <p>DId WB scrap the shitty movie SInger made and re-edited it to look like it's a good film???<p>'cause as far as I can remember that was the worst movie the character could even be in.<P>Watch it again and try to tell me how many time do we have character development with Clark's. I mean, what like 7 lines of dialogue for him, what is he doing back at the Planet if he's to just sit there and not do anything, or report on somehting?<P>And he's got Jimmy attached to the hip most of the time, how the hell does he just leave him there and not have him figure out "Wait.. Clark's here, no Superman. Big thing happens on the TV, Clark leave me with the bill and Superman appears. Superman disapears Clark back. MMmmmm ... nah!..." And even when they actually did that scene with Lois and Cyclops it shit bad crap, i mean the leaked out by mistake kind. A top selling, award winning 16 years old Journalist finally gets someone to describe both characters and she doen't catch on?!?!? "Supe's 'bout 6 feet tall, so's Clark; both have a good built and dark hair with blue eyes, they both disapear and reapear at the same time, hell same hour... I mean, god... Clark's Superm.. Oh he just wave in a funny way.. Can't be Supe's fo'get 'bout it..." and turn away. Wow, Singer really hit it with that one.<P>I've seen better story telling at a 9 year old school play.<P>I'll be the first one not to go to Superman Returns Again when WB crap another one.<P>At least Marvel thru Lee off the Hulk 2 Project and are re-working the story to hopefully make a real profit this time around, and the Director doesn't have to explain "oh but the next one you'll love, I'm putting actions scenes in it." Fukking Singer... He did a good job with both X-Men he directed, he changed lots of things but with a series of more than 50 mutants you can't expect anyone to properly follow the storyline, you'll have to be creative to work around them and make it all work. <P>But Superman is an Icon and Singer tore him a new a-hole (no pun intended) by making him less than two dimentional and a peep show fanatic, and don't get me starting on the kid.<P>Let's hope Favreau doesn't have Arad too much on his back so he can actually work with this movie and not make it into a Spidey 3 kinda feel where you have too many characters flying around for no apparent reason.<p>

Nope, never said good. But if Superman were real, that scene was GOLDEN. That's about all I said. I watched the rest, and yes, I do remember a similar movie that came out 30 years ago. But that one was fresh and not something we had seen almost identically years before.

    by cheeseofcheese

Always nice to see the fools in their bedrooms knocking technology they plain just don't understand. The reason why trailers come out in Quicktime is because (and you may want to write this down in crayon somewhere) it's THE FUCKING INDUSTRY STANDARD. Now, get the mother-of-fucking-god over yourselves, and get a better computer. Alternatively, shut the fuck up and stop whining.

    While we're talking comicbook guys

    by Lord_Brixton

This list is kinda fun: http://entertainment.timesonline.co.uk/tol/arts_and_entertainment/film/article2272516.ece Seems like they've averaged the box office take of all the major comic book movies across how many entries there are in the franchise which throws up some weird results. I guess it's because inflation makes newer movies bigger, but it's a fun ole read anyways
