Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little trailer for the longer extended cut of DEATH PROOF that will be released overseas in a feature-length version and completely separate from the original concept of GRINDHOUSE.

We've been getting a lot of requests to take the Weinsteins to task for how they're releasing the DVDs here stateside and I happen to agree with a lot of those people pissed off that we're getting two DVD releases and no option for a mega release that'll have the full theatrical experience. I understand that the Weinsteins are just trying to make back as much of their investment as they can, but there is something to be said about blatantly spitting in the face of those who did support the film upon release. If they released DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR separately for Joe Blow Wal-Mart/Target shopper (the audience who doesn't give a shit), that's fine, but why no big, extras-laden release for us at the same time?

Look at how Anchor Bay put together the George Romero DAWN OF THE DEAD mega collection, with all three different cuts and tons of extra features in a nice package? If all you want is the gorier version or the theatrical version you can get that, too, but for the hardcore Romero nerds we have the ultimate pack.

Shit, just look at how they handled their own property with SIN CITY. I'm sure they have a plan up their sleeve to double-dip, but it's hard for us to buy those editions with that looming over our heads. I almost didn't buy the KILL BILL DVDs because of the rumor of the big special WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR edition that never came. I'm glad I did because it's been almost 2 years now since the second installment hit and the discs have gotten plenty of playtime.

All that venting over, I dig this trailer for DEATH PROOF, which hits UK Theaters in a few weeks. I'm not opposed to the idea of re-releasing longer versions theatrically, but I just want the option for my home video collection to include the originally intended experience. Just the option, is that too much to ask for?
