International DEATH PROOF one-off trailer vrooms online!!

Published at:  Sep 02, 2007 7:04:28 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here with a little trailer for the longer extended cut of DEATH PROOF that will be released overseas in a feature-length version and completely separate from the original concept of GRINDHOUSE.

We've been getting a lot of requests to take the Weinsteins to task for how they're releasing the DVDs here stateside and I happen to agree with a lot of those people pissed off that we're getting two DVD releases and no option for a mega release that'll have the full theatrical experience. I understand that the Weinsteins are just trying to make back as much of their investment as they can, but there is something to be said about blatantly spitting in the face of those who did support the film upon release. If they released DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR separately for Joe Blow Wal-Mart/Target shopper (the audience who doesn't give a shit), that's fine, but why no big, extras-laden release for us at the same time?

Look at how Anchor Bay put together the George Romero DAWN OF THE DEAD mega collection, with all three different cuts and tons of extra features in a nice package? If all you want is the gorier version or the theatrical version you can get that, too, but for the hardcore Romero nerds we have the ultimate pack.

Shit, just look at how they handled their own property with SIN CITY. I'm sure they have a plan up their sleeve to double-dip, but it's hard for us to buy those editions with that looming over our heads. I almost didn't buy the KILL BILL DVDs because of the rumor of the big special WHOLE BLOODY AFFAIR edition that never came. I'm glad I did because it's been almost 2 years now since the second installment hit and the discs have gotten plenty of playtime.

All that venting over, I dig this trailer for DEATH PROOF, which hits UK Theaters in a few weeks. I'm not opposed to the idea of re-releasing longer versions theatrically, but I just want the option for my home video collection to include the originally intended experience. Just the option, is that too much to ask for?

    Death Proof sucked

    by knightsong

I could give a shit about Death Proof. I love Kurt Russel and I liked the concept, but Death Proof as a movie did not capture a "Grindhouse" feel. It was a completely over chatty piece of shit. It was such a buzz kill after Planet Terror, that I nearly fell asleep.

    by tourist

I wouldn't count on a double dip. They want to force people to purchase the one film twice, in the hopes of recouping costs. Probally wont work though. More likely to alienate the fans if anything.

    by jimmie dimmick

This is just an obvious double dip right from the start.
This now forces us to buy 2 DVDs to watch one movie. Greedy fucking Harvey, that bastard! I want to see these as GRINDHOUSE the movie, not Death Proof and then another movie called Planet terror. It doesn’t even look like these disks will get the same release date. It’s like Harvey thinks he’s doing some sort of Jedi mind trick…waves his DVDs slowly…”This is not the movie you’re looking for, these are.”I hope he fucking goes broke. Fuck Harvey Weinstein, fuck him up his stupid ass!

"If they released DEATH PROOF and PLANET TERROR separately for Joe Blow Wal-Mart/Target shopper (the audience who doesn't give a shit)" Do you realize that's gotta be good portion of americans? Just because someone may pickup their flicks at Target or Wally World, it doesn't mean "they don't give a shit", they do it out of convenience. With busy schedules, kids, and the lack of groceries in Best Buy, is it any wonder? (I know what you were trying to say, but that wasn't the best way of saying it. It came off a bit condescending.)

    by seekshelter

wouldn't you still have to change the disk at the end of the first movie anyway? duplicating the theatrical format doesn't seem like it will translate to a single disk if you count commentaries and extras. well, it might with the tarantino part since that guy never does commentaries. i've heard that the fake trailers are not going to be included though. i might be mad about that.

    by anaisnin

Every movie fan in Czech republic is angry because they separated those two movies. They said (Weinsteins) that it is because we don´t have the experience with grindhouse cinema from 70´s, so we wouldn´t understand the basic idea of that movie... WTF? I was looking forward to find out how it looked like... and even people in USA that are round 25 can´t say that they know exactly the experience... And now they release it separately on dvd and where is the movie that we were waiting for for such a long time? (is the only chance to see it to download it in some shit quality from internet?). And why there is no comments from Tarantino and Rodriguez? I would se " goodbye " to Weinsteins if I was them...

    by micturatingbenjamin

Okay, if any of you guys have a ticklish spot about evil online piracy, or "stealing" end product, read no further. I paid to see GH in the theaters three times. Each time I had an awesome time.In my tenure on the interwebs, surfing the series of tubes, I've rarely been tempted to just swipe something. But there it is: Grindhouse, in a fairly well bootlegged capture in DivX format...and with all the missing reels and negative scratches and interesting jumps and jugs of the theater experience. There's also the addition of the chuckles and shocked gasps of the crowd. So, what I have now is an EXACT replica of the movie going experience. I shelled out thirty bucks, and when the rumor was out that they were going to ditch the 'Grindhouse' idea, I decided to download the flick, and burn it to DVD...It's like a VCR dub of a bootleg. It's actually interesting because of the graininess...It would be a mistake to release these films separately and not include the scratched negative versions as well as the fake trailers...Anyway, I'm a wretched thief, so, hate me if you like, but I've got a bootleg of the original, like a true fan of the film experience would. ;)

I understand what you're saying. My intent was Joe Blow meaning the average person who doesn't care (ie doesn't give a shit) about preserving the theatrical experience and just wants to pick up the movies themselves (one or both). The point is the Weinsteins are rewarding those that didn't support the movie when it was released and shitting on those that did. I completely understand the reasons behind it, but that doesn't mean it's not seedy.

Planet Terror was good. I'd like to see an extended cut of that movie -it was fun, goofy and was everything you wanted from a "Grindhouse" movie. QT's Death Proof, too long, boring, trying to be a QT film but ended up with retarded dialog and a stink of how much Terentino has lost 'it'

Here's what I don't get. I went and saw Grindhouse. I liked it for what it was (homage to some bad cinema). It was long, but so what, it was about the experience.

So how is splitting the two movies apart and making them whole movies keep with that concept?

To me, each movie worked in its shortened version and as halves of a whole. By making each half a whole movie, they are unlikely to each be as complete or as interesting.

Price to see "Grindhouse" in Japan / USA

    by daroru

When this was originally released in the US, did you pay TWICE to see the whole thing? Because in Japan, last week, you could see the whole, original, GRINDHOUSE experience... at a 'discounted' price of 3000 yen - 25 US dollars / 13 Great English pounds, versus a regular film here which costs 1800 yen, or 15 bucks 50 / 8 quid. I laughed when the cinema staff told me the price, walked away without paying to see the film, and unfortunately the thought crossed my mind: "how much to download this...?"

Not for everybody. Planet Terror is for everybody. It's a very fan friendly movie. Whereas Death Proof has a TON of dialog. by dkev00

I thought this would be the better movie out of the two because Kurt Russel is an all around bad ass. Explain to me how a potentially awesome character can have the balls enough to hit another car head on at full speed, spend presumably weeks in the hospital, then turn into a fucking pussy because he got winged in the arm by some chick with a gun. What are fucking kidding me? The dialog scenes are way too long. Which is fine if the characters actually have something to say. They don't. There conversations are fucking pointless and boring. Theres only 2 action sequences in the whole movie. What a piece of shit this thing is. AICN way over hyped this wast of time. Which brings me to the conclusion that AICN has become nothing but a bunch of Hollywood kiss asses, and have lost there credibility. Don't wast your money on this lame shit.

If the House of Weinstein wanted to make money back from the movie, then it would make more sense to release a big, much more expensive, limited-edition release than these pissant single movie editions. You're saying that the only people who went and saw GRINDHOUSE when it came out were the movie-nerds. Well, if that's the case...then who else is going to buy the fucking DVDs?? And by slapping Mr./Mrs. Movienerd in the face with something they don't want in the hopes that they will pick up the eventual double-dip, well they should just save themselves the trouble and put out a good edition now and not even think about these single movie editions.

Planet Terror and Death Proof felt like Rodriguez and Tarantino's versions of 2nd-rate B-movies, of Grindhouse-theater fare. That's why they got away with their quirks.

How are the Weinsteins "rewarding" the people who supported Grindhouse by seeing it in the theater? By not letting them see it again on DVD? I'm all for them releasing extended cuts of PT and DP, but I'm confused: you saw Grindhouse in the theater three times and now you feel rewarded for not being able to watch it a fourth time on DVD? I must be missing something. Fortunately I saw this in the theater on opening day so I don't have to "shut the fuck up".

I'll wait before checking out GRINDHOUSE. I'll wait until I get a DVD resembling the movie shown in theaters, that the filmmakers were happy with. Until then, I can wait. The notices on GRINDHOUSE just weren't all that great. And I'm still a little bitter about the cash squeeze that got put on me for KILL BILL. So, Weinsteins, I can wait. Forever if I have to. You need my money a lot more than I need to see your movie. There are more reasonably priced, well-put together, customer friendly DVDs and movies out there to keep me happy and watching from now until the end of time. If I never see GRINDHOUSE, I won't miss it. It's not like we're talking PULP FICTION here, right. So I can wait, and it's up to you to convince me otherwise if you want my dollars. by zikade zarathos

Even Planet Terror, the more conventional splatter-fest, is just too fucking stupid to really be taken seriously. They only work because you get TWO of these Grindhouse flicks, and they add up to a whole, fulfilling experience. And as much as people rag on DEATH PROOF, it was BY FAR the more "grindhouse"y of the two. All of those movies had boring as shit exposition and then one or two cool scenes. Rodriguez didn't get that and just made a special-effects laden extravaganza that got boring after twenty minutes.

    1) The Weinsteins fuck over fans by releasing subpar quality versions of their films, only a short few years later, to release the version everyone wanted in the first place. Kill Bill: The Whole Blody Affair being a great example. 2) Death Proof needs to be cut significantly, particularly the miserably boring and pointless dialouge in the second half. Although I don't see why they cut the lap dance scene in the theaters? That actually seems like an interesting scene as opposed to the crap they left in. 3) Why not include the trailer with this? What a bunch of assholes!

My understanding of Stuntman Mike is that he isn't scared of anything when he is in control of the situation, but the first second he isn't in control he completely melts down. Does this DVD move surprise anybody at all? The Weinsteins are merely businessmen, nothing more unfortunately. I still don't get all the geek love for Quentin Tarantino, he hasn't made a great film in a dozen years. PULP FICTION is in my top 4 all-time, I think it's beyond brilliant, and RESEVOIR DOGS is a masterpiece. But everything else he has made is just average.

Well, if Tarantino and Rodriguez had made them right, the trailers had been better (and a few real-looking concession stand ads thrown in) and the movie had been named "Drive-in" (which was where these kind of movies were enjoyed by the mass of Americans in the target age-range) or something else that would have been more accessible, it probably would have still been a financial failure. The Truth II

    by red ned lynch

...neither Rodriguez nor Tarantino were able to translate their love for and knowledge of these movies into real functioning homages to the source material. In both cases they are at best idiosyncratic parodies of the drive-in/grindhouse movie. And further they failed to understand what made those of us who loved these movies love them. We DID NOT love missing reels, the sound dropping out or the projector going out of focus. And by the way, as anyone who watched a lot of these movies knows, getting the reels out of order was far more common than having a reel missing. The notion that both ends of a double feature would have a reel missing is just one more easy parody step that missed the point of the actual experience. But anyway, the missing/out of order reels, the bad sound, the projection flaws were the things WE PUT UP WITH in order to see the movies we wanted to. I also used to buy plenty of rare and hard to find movies from Video Search of Miami, Sinister Cinema and those kind of copyright gray places, and yes I put up with fifth generation dubs, hard subs in Persian, Korean and Polish that took up a third of the screen and the constant angry buzz on the soundtrack, but I was putting up with it. Would a little of that stuff have been okay? Would it even have been a nice nostalgic thrill? Sure. A little. And the movies themselves were misses. They weren't the worst misses in the world, but neither really tapped into the eccentric, oft incompetent madness with its strange sprinkling of unintentional genius that made so many of these films so enjoyable. Death Proof is the more egregious offender on this score, but Planet Terror swerves so far away from the source material in its last act that it plays more like a mid-eighties early straight to video monster mash than anything that showed up at a drive-in or old movie palace circa 65-80. Ditto for the trailers. Roth's Thanksgiving trailer played like a trailer for Saturday the 14th or some other crappy early parody of actual movies of this kind than it does as a trailer for one of them.

    by tourist

It bombed in the U.S. It could have made more money internationally. You know, like fucking Mr. Bean or something. As it stands, they decided not to release it overseas, so everyone, myself included, who wanted to see it, had no choice but to download it. Thereby giving them no money at all. I would have been more than happy to import a legitimate DVD, even after seeing it on bootleg, simply to see the whole thing in top notchy quality. But unfortunately, thats not going to happen either. They simply don't want the fans money. It's like they hate the film and want it to bomb.

    by jaws wayne

I will go as far as to say that the inclusion of the lap dance scene is gonna change a lot opinions on Death Proof. If you truly hated Death Proof you won't all of a sudden love it, but I'm sure most of you will agree that it's a serious highlight in the film, on a par with many other of Tarantino's greatest/best movie moments.
I don't have a clue why he didn't include that in the Grindhouse cut.

I'd pay $30 for Grindhouse, tops, so I guess I'll be buying on an Amazon sale or not at all. Splitting the movie in half is transparently greedy, and adding scenes isn't exactly a selling point. The last thing I was thinking during each feature was "Wow, I wish this was longer."

I loved Death Proof! It turned me into a Zoe Bell fanatic. I NEED to see the extra footage. I'll save my opinion about people that like Planet Terror better, mainly because my wife's in that group. The only reason I'm gonna buy PT is because she'll make me. I love every bit of dialogue and sweaty feet in Death Proof. When I saw GH the second time, I was impatient for PT to end. OH, and how come people that want the theatrical experience of GH on DVD are waiting so long for the non-theatrical experience of The Whole Bloody Affair? Go to the hated Wal-Mart bargain bin and get the original theatrical experience of Kill Bill cheap, then go buy the Whole Bloody Affair at your independently owned movie store later on.

I had a lot of fun with Planet Terror, but only liked few parts of Death Proof. Extra footage or not, these movies should be released together under the "Grindhouse" banner and not separately. They may as well remove all of the scratches and glitches from the films for these releases.

With that said, I may have wimped out and bought an extended cut of Planet Terror if it was released first. I don't really care if I own a copy of Death Proof, though, and its release kinda sucks out any enthusiasm that I have over a future Planet Terror release.

    by gozu

"Death Proof" plays more like a real Grindhouse movie, in that there are long stretches where nothing interesting happens and the characters are generally annoying. "Planet Terror" was more fun, but it was essentially a cameo-fest for everyone involved. If they really wanted to do it right, they should have spent as little money as possible and done "Thanksgiving" with "Machete." Finally, why didn't they just make two one hour movies since neither one had enough substance for two?

    by quake ii

I'm in the Death Proof camp. Great build up, strong, sexy characters and one the most intense car chases ever filmed. Wicked fun. Planet Terror was trying too hard to be a spoof and became a self paraody (not in a fun way). And there was nothing "Grindhouse" about either film. Both were way too polished and slick to come anywhere close to Grindhouse. I have a large collection of 70's Grindhouse films and none of them had 25 million dollar budgets. Most are under a million.

That said it is still better than Rob Zombie's Halloween, also known as "Rob Zombie's Confederacy Remembrance Skullfuckfest." (inspired by the genius post of Rob Zombie's "TWO PITBULLS ON A TARPAULIN" in the Argento Three Mothers talkback)

I also refuse to buy GRINDHOUSE separate. I think the double features have a lot of redeeming value together and separate (more PT than DP), I really loved the experiment though I am not a huge Rodriguez fan or a Tarantino fanatic. Couldnt imagine watching it without the other content. I think it works much better in context of the whole double feature programme. I personally don't think DP was the stronger of two films, way too much dialogue, uneven, boring and self indulgent in that regard (and I generally love QT's ol diatribe). Hope the new cut has ramped up the avenging action, which was pretty awe inspiring. Biggest let down is the lack of those trailer spots, which for me made the whole thing gel together and really took you back to the ubercool retro cheese of 70's exploitation.

Tarantino's star is fading fast for me

    by digital_soul

I just cauight the US DVD release in the UK last night (Never got to see the original Grindhouse cut) and I thought the film was awful. I couldn't get out of my head how self aware and indulgent it all was. All the female characters delivered thier lines like they thought they were Uma in Pulp Fiction. The big difference was that Tarantino gave Uma half decent dialogue, used her sparingly and placed her within an interesting context, unlike this drawn out mess. And much as I sometimes dig the little references Tarantino puts in his films to older cult movies and other cool stuff, here he just overdoes it and totally alienates anyone but the most hardcore movie nerds. I cant see this film getting good reviews in the UK, it will bore and confuse 99% of those who watch it here. Even the finale wasnt enough to make up for what went before as I was just in shock by how truly bad it all was to really appreciate it by then.

    Death Proof , underrated ?

    by jaws wayne

I personally thought Death Proof was a lot of fun and a little better than Planet Terror.
Was it too long ? Not for me it wasn't. Do the extra scenes make the movie better. Yes they do.
But what made the movie really worthwhile were those frickin' action scenes.
C'mon, that final part of the film really delivered, can't imagine any guy with an interest in action not getting a big kick out of that.
But what I really think is that ultimately this movie is probably gonna be loved more by women than men. Because it was really kind of a chick-flick for the most part.
But the smokin'lap dance scene was for us of course, haha.
No doubt a highlight of the shooting schedule for Kurt R. the day they shot that scene.

    by elgordo

The films would have worked much better had they been an hour like they were supposed to be in the begginning. But the hype around it made the Weinsteins think that by allowing QT and RR to make them feature length would make them even better and then make them more money. Great idea that turned out to be.

How anyone can say that Death Proof was good is beyond me. How was it good? The dialog? How so? Can you quote it? Do you even remember what they were saying? Was the acting good? Kurt Russel was cool but he was only in the movie for like a half an hour tops.

Look, neither Death Proof and Planet Terror are milestones in the history of cinema. But in the case of Death Proof, the good stuff was really hard-on good, and the ending just Rocked, and that's always a mega plus in my book. (I hate it the other way around, nothing worse than a movie that's great that crashes and burns in the last act, a perfect recent example of that for me would be Danny Boyle's Sunshine).
But if people think Death Proof wasn't any good, hey, no problemo you know.

Saw the New , longer version last night .

    by papa lazaru

Firstly , I would like to start by saying that I NEVER download films .
I've seen a few movies that my friends had downloaded and usually the quality is poor at best , but I try to avoid downloads when I can . Mainly because I get pissed off at the crappy sound or picture . Nonetheless I actually downloaded Death Proof , purely as a protest to the film being split in Europe .
it was the only protest that I could mount over my disappointment that the films were coming out individually .
No amount of bitching and whining , or emails was going to change what had happened so I decided to hit them where it hurts by not spending a fucking penny to see the films . The Weinsteins fucked me over as a film fan , so as a film fan I'll fuck them they only way I can .
Anyway I digress . I watched Death Proof last night from a download and it hurts me to say it but it is utter shite.
Keeping in mind that I LOVED all of QT's films , every single one of them , and own all of them on DVD also . I just couldn't believe how bad Death Proof was . I know it was supposed to be a kitsch homage to the "so bad its good" genre of cheap thrill movie making but I honestly thought it was a joke . I sat there thinking QT has actually made an hour and 40min practical joke and he's laughing his ass off at all of us folk who spent money ( not me ) and time watching this garbage .
I guarantee if this film came out as is , with none of the history behind it and none of the pedigree behind the camera . It would have gone straight to DVD , staring Jake Busey as Stuntman Mike and the only person who would have given a shit would have the the irrepressible Vern .
    It really was DREADFUL .

I got the Region 1 DVD delivered to me at the weekend and while I agree that I prefer the USA release of 1 film I must admit that this DVD is very good.

While the film loses some of the Grindhouse feel being a standalone, the dvd is extended and there are some extra bits including an extended part of Earl Mcgraw and extra bits with the girls and of course the lap dance.

This is the only way for me to own a decent quality copy of Death Proof so I had to get it.

    and another thing

    by papa lazaru

Did QT get bored with the film ageing process half way through .
I don't know about the theatre version , but the one I saw began with sound blips and film scratches and cigarette burns ( thanks Tyler Durden ) . Which continued through till about the half way point and then , as if he couldn't be arsed anymore the film becomes crystal clear and all the film ageing techniques just went out the window .
Not that its a major gripe , the film has far bigger problems that that . It just seemed very inconsistent and lazy .

Firstly the fact that it was QT film . Agree or disagree , the man has made some of the best and most entertaining films in modern American cinema and thus , in my opinion , has set the bar very high for himself . As I said earlier I own all his films on DVD and most are on heavy rotation in my collection and unfortunately Death Proof just doesn't live up to his own high standard and dare I say if DP had not have been directed by the man himself I'm sure it would not have nearly as much love / coverage it is getting , but sure that is the nature of the beast .
Anyway I found it WAY too talky , but not good talky , to paraphrase an above TBer I could listen to good Tarantino talk all day , hell "12 angry man" is my favourite film of all time and its nothing but talk , but when characters you don't give two fucks about start talking about shit that is basically sub "sex and the city " yap . There is something in my brain that just screams "TUNE OUT" . On top of that there was the complete waste of a great Character . Stuntman Mike starts as the coolest mofo in the world and ends up as a whining bitch . Some may say that its an inspired twist on the convention to turn the tables on the the killer but surely the main and possibly only reason we watch slasher films is to see the killer do what he does best and actually kill people , not to see him blubbering like a baby .
Lastly , there is a lot of talk about the great action scenes and the use of Real stunts .
Now unless I saw I different version of the film I counted only 2 action scenes . The first being about 3 mins long ( however it was a highlight ) and the second being a so so car chase.
The latest Bourne Movie didn't use much CGI , as far as I could see , and it mopped the floor with DP action wise.
As a slasher film there was hardly any kills and a piss poor killer
As an action film there was a sparse amount of it
As a chase movie there was far too much of a build up before said chase
As a comedy , it aint funny
And as a cool slice of kitsch Americana , it just aint that cool .
All in all , I love QT fims because if nothing else I know when I sit down to watch one that I'm gonna have fun . Death Proof is now unfortunatley the exception to that rule.

Extras on the 2 disc DVD ?

    by jaws wayne

Now please help me out here.
Some posters on here claim to already own the R1 2-disc set of the film. I just looked at Amazon where I found 50 reviews of the DVD BUT NOT ONE PERSON TALKED ABOUT THE EXTRA FEATURES,in fact NOT ONE 'REVIEWER' SEEMED TO HAVE THE SET ! So, can any of you owners tell me what's on the discs beside the extended version of the movie ? Any deleted scenes ? Commentary tracks ? Are any of the fake trailers on there ? Does it have some of those marvellous trailers from the competition ? I loved Kong of the Dead, I would love to have that one on a disc. So, what's on it?

The DVD extras has a series

    by daveh

The DVD extras has a series of interviews with the stunt drivers in Death proof.

It has another interview with Kurt Russell where QT and Rodriguez say he was picked because of the references in Planet Terror to Snake Plisken in Escape From New York.

There's another feature about casting the girls in Death proof and a whole feature about Zoe Bell where they show her fighting doubled up as The Bride in Kill Bill.
That's as far as I got.

Oh and Papa Lazaru I understand that you did not like it and you post some great reasons why you did not like it all of which are valid points. For me it was a refreshing change from all the cgi crap we get nowadays. I apologise if I indicated that you did not like it because it contained cgi.

    Thanks Daveh

I guess/hope we'll see a whole lot of those competition trailers on the not yet announced but inevitable future Mega Grindhouse set,it would be a serious missed opportunity if they wouldn't include Hobo, Maiden and Cong on that. But my guess is they'll show on a big set in the future. Man,I'm fed up with double-dipping, so I'll probably (no doubt in fact) pick that set up when the price of that has come down a bit.

Saw it at Edinburgh Film feast

    by v1c_vega

Zoe Bell was there and she did a Q+A afterwards she was asked about the splitting of the film and would not be drawn on the question other than say there is a line between artistic value and business sense. It's indicative of today's audience that Death Proof is not liked. I have seen PT liked it but it is not in the same league as Death Proof which is a much superior film. I fucking loved Death Proof and when i saw dirty mary crazy larry the other day on TV i fucking love it even more the style Tarantino achieves is truly masterful. Papa lararu your goin in my little red book as a pussy. I'm glad you didn't like it , i'm even more ecstatic that most of you don't like Death Proof it just make me like it even more and absolutely proves that Tarantino doesn't conform to the norm. Good on him. Bring on the BASTARD.

my guess is that the full version will come out.

    by cotton mcknight

First they send them to dvd individually, get all the money they can that way, then sell it again as a set. Honestly I wouldn't be surprised if that was their plan all along.

Planet Terror VS 28 Weeks Later : Choppers

    by jaws wayne

Alright, I can't believe what I just saw. So, I saw the theatrical/extended version of Planet Terror in my country here just a few days ago. Now, all 3 or 4 of you who went out to see Grindhouse no doubt remember the (i.m.o) craziest/coolest thing/highlight from Rodriguez's segment. Of course I'm talking about "The chopper VS the zombies" one. Classic scene. I just finished watching a download rip of 28 Weeks Later (it skipped the theaters in my country) which I think was even better than 28 Days,it's probably the best horror film I've seen in the last 2 or 3 years, what a fantastic sequel. Just imagine my suprise when I witnessed THE EXACT SAME THING IN THIS MOVIE !!!
But the Planet Terror bit played like a scene from Blue's Clues compared to the one in 28 FRICKIN' WEEKS LATER. Man !!

So, who ripped of who and just how could this have happened ?
Anyway, if you haven't watched 28 Weeks Later yet, make sure you do if you're into state of the art horror filmmaking...

Aaah, the big mysteries of life (haha).
Well, the chopper scenes are the kind of scenes most of us could have dreamt up but it was still really weird seeing it turn up in two movies that were released a month apart.(Romero had a famous chopper scene in Dawn of course, but this was like a Ben Hur version of that, and man that scene in 28 Days is one hell of a gore-trip). As for the Armageddon VS Deep Impact comparison, what to think of all those Dreamworks VS Disney CGI flicks. They both made 3 movies with similar stories and characters or something like that, that came out in the same years. Can you imagine working as an expert/talent on a movie like that for maybe 3 or 4 years knowing that a thousand other talents from a competing studio are animating almost the same movie ?

Death Proof was OK but this bugged me:

    by fleshmachine

that whole lead up by the girls to their car stunt was pretty anticlimactic....all that "shut up i have to concentrate" and "are you thinking what im thinking?" shit like it was some huge deal...and all it was was her haning on to the hood with ropes. weak. i was expecting something fucking crazy. not that i could do it...but big deal.
