Ari Gold would say: "Who the f&*# is DON READY and why am I playing him?"

Published at:  Aug 27, 2007 2:08:40 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. So, Paramount Vantage has a deal with Will Ferrell and Adam McKay where they'll fund flicks that fall under their banner Gary Sanchez Prods. The first one up is called THE GOODS: THE DON READY STORY about a used car liquidator who is hired to save a struggling dealership during the big Fourth of July weekend.

Jeremy Piven has been nabbed for the lead role. Neal Brennan (writer/producer/director of Chappelle's Show) is directing from a script by Rick Stempson and Andy Stock, who wrote the upcoming GARY THE TENNIS COACH, which is getting good word out of the test screenings and I've heard the script was really damn funny, too.

Piven is the man and it looks like he's working with some of tomorrow's comedy talent. Should be one to watch.

    Used Cars

    by boromir187

Sounds a lot like Used Cars (which is underrated). Still, with Piven in the lead I'll definitely give it a look.

    Slasher anyone

    by ubiquitous_jalalibad

Anyone here see Slasher the doc by John Landis? Great, highly entertaining documentary about a used car liquidator who spends a week in Memphis trying to help a struggling car lot. The slasher is this ultra-twitchy, foul mouthed but ultimately likeable dude. I wonder if this is what they're shooting for with J. Piven? I'd certainly pay to see that.

Anyone else remember the Will Ferrell script that was mentioned on AICN called August Blowout? It was way before Anchorman came out.

    He doesn't have hair implants....

    by stovetopstuffin'

he has a rare condition where he started off with a receded hairline and it goes in reverse. In his old age, he's going to have golden locks of baby soft hair. It's the only real explanation. I mean why else would he look like patrick stewart back in his days of cameos in movies like Singles?

    by tar heel

Yeah, this does sound familiar. I recall an AICN script review from years ago mentioning there was a part for a super salesman that just screamed for Alec Baldwin. Anyone? Anyone?

    by papa lazaru

I definitley rember reading about this too. As far as I recall it was one of the regular writters that posted the script review . Must have been at least 2 years ago and from what I can remember . It has Will Ferrel attached at the time .
Dont know why I'm bothering to tell you all what I remember reading here 2 years ago , but I felt I had to .

    by barry egan

He sort of specializes in that. And something must have happened to his hairline.

    by thehichhiker

... "Cupid" ensured that I will watch anything Jeremy Piven is in. Combination of Piven with Rob Thomas' writing was amazing to see. Too bad the show got the big shaft and has zero chance of ever making it on to DVD.

Didn't AICN review the script for this?

    by theoyboy

Help us here, but didn't one of the blackboxes here at AICN review the script for this film like two or three years ago? Link us to that, because it sounded genius. But I also think that was before Anchorman came out, wasn't it? I say this because the script sounded VERY SIMILAR to the Anchorman characters. Hell, the movie even begins with the lead (now Piven) talking to the camera about how much he loves his job, equipped with sexual innuendos. One of the characters sounded perfect for Alec Baldwin... some older car salesman's boss or something to that effect, right? SOmeone fill us all in here. I know the review is on the site somewhere.

...and working in it for 16 years (oops 17 years as of today) has shown me many grey hairs and how bitter some fans can be when their on-screen (be it movie or tv) heroes don't want to hang out with them. Less anger prolongs everyones life. Try focusing on the positive!
