Hey!! Peter Liguori and Dana Walden!! Eliza Dushku Just Signed A Talent Deal At Fox TV!! So Here’s A Wacky Idea!!
I am – Hercules!!
Eliza Dushku just signed a talent deal with Fox TV. From a Monday morning story in Variety:
The studio is now starting to integrate Dushku in the development process, giving her a chance to familiarize herself with some of the scribes who have deals at 20th.
Since, as I recall, one of the idling scribes still under contract at Fox is “Angel” vet Tim Minear (and Fox controls the rights to Dushku’s most famous character), why not put Minear and Dushku together for a new hourlong titled “Faith The Vampire Slayer”?
Fox likes highly rated premiere episodes. Maybe I’m wrong, but I suspect a few more people might tune in for Dushku playing a superhero (you know, like on that popular NBC show "Heroes"?) than Dushku playing another cop or lawyer or doctor.
Check with your colleagues over at Fox Home Entertainment. Fox has sold a LOT of Buffiverse DVDs over the last five years.
Read all of Variety’s story on Dushku’s deal here.

Serenity Now!!

God help me for saying it...
-
...to sign a talent deal. Just kiddin Douche-ku. Maybe....
-
I never got into Buffy. But, I fell for Angel during the re-runs on TNT. Now, I want to start from scratch in the Buffyverse with a new show and this would be PERFECT. Get it done, Fox. Thank you.
-
Just let it GO, man!!!
-
I have a treatment if they're interested. In the pilot Dawn approaches her asking for help exploring her tentative sexuality by enacting an elaborate cheerleader role playing fantasy. Also, I'm trying to work in some Transformers.
-
Eliza, donut you realize how Fox fracked Tru Calling over? But it's a job, no matter how short it is. Good luck, E-Du.
-
Or is this 'Herc II'??
-
I'd hit it.
-
Unless you are talking about the Hairsprayiverse, Road Hogsiverse, or the Scientologiverse. Then, it's cool because it's all part of the Travoltaverse.
-
Its apparently adapted from a pitch / script Vaughn did for Whedon for a Faith DVD movie. There's your holy God right there. Also, Herc, you're right, Buffy IS dead. Let it go. Glad to see you admit it, though. That's the first step in recovery.
-
already owns "iverse."
In the words of The Alarm, give me FAITH!! -
but I would imagine Tim Minear would want to create his own shows at this point.
-
Fox honestly treated Tru Calling better than they had any right to. It was low-rated, and not even a critical success, and they did everything they could do to help it get its footing, including picking it up for a second season and hiring new writers to help it get its shit together. (Remember when Jane Espenson was brought on to be its new showrunner?) With all the unfortunate stuff Fox has done to various shows over the years, Tru Calling is definately not one of those horror stories; they gave it a legit shot at greatness, and it simply failed to deliver.
Somebody at Fox clearly likes Dushku. Minear even said in an interview after Drive was cancelled that it was intended for her to be the one driving the big truck that had started picking off someo of the racers. Hopefully with this new deal she'll work with the right people to finally get the star vehicle Tru Calling was supposed to be. -
Minear could create "Faith," just as David Greenwalt co-created "Angel."
-
she can guest on "Faith"
-
But will they be smart enough to do it? Sadly I'm not holding my breath. And of course, even if they did have the sense to greenlight this, Fox's notorious scheduling/marketing incompetence would no doubt result in a mere 13 episodes produced, maybe half of which would actually air and the rest we'd have to wait for on DVD. But I'd still be thankful for at least that. FAITH ON A MOTORCYCLE, with James Marsters recurring as Spike. Goddamn that would rock.
-
We almost went a few days without Herc mentioning Angel or Buffy.
-
where alien vampire are in a race across the U.S. to collect inanimate objects that talk.
-
doing it behind Whedon's back? I'd only really want that show if Whedon was involved. Also, Tim Minear should not be making more shows for FOX. That is the exact opposite of what he should be doing.
-
howbutWHAT?? We most certainly did NOT!
Fellow nerdlings, if you can't stand the mention of "Buffy" or "Angel," this may not be the TV column for you! You might want to stick to AICN for movies, but look to Dark Horizons, CHUD or Television Without Pity for your TV news. I'm fairly certain those sites NEVER make mention of "Buffy" or "Angel" and are better sites for it.
In fact, I hereby forbid all who can't stand references to "Buffy" and "Angel" from reading the Coaxial side of the site. I forbid it for your own pyschic well-being.
I warn you not to defy me.
I am -- Hercules!!
-
...and I don't see a spin-off doing better ratings than the original. So yeah, give it up. DVD sales do NOT equal success elsewhere. If that were the case, Serenity would have been a gigantic hit, and they would be doing more of them, and/or brought the series back.Plus there's the fact that Eliza Dushku a)isn't a very good actress, and b) isn't really hot enough to compensate for the previously mentioned lack of talent.
-
Now that Faith was one crazy cool bitch!
-
when he's 80. His grandkids will be like, "What was it like when you were growing up Grandpa?" "There was a television show called Buffy the Vampire Slayer. It was about this teenage girl who like to wear tight revealing clothing while saying witty comments that surely are no longer as witty today as they were and had a penchant for falling in love with vampires. Oh and she had the fortune of working with actors that had more talent than her to disguise the fact that she had a limited acting range. I miss that show, it was the greatest form of fiction ever made by man. Better than Shakespeare, Tolstoy, and The Dark Knight Returns." "Old people are weird."
-
We look at it more as your personal blog. When are you going to start posting bad poetry and pictures of your cats?
-
Every single post you post is whiny bitchy crybabiosity.
I beg you, seek out TWOP. Or go into AICN Zone. Or start your own TV site. I'm certain it will be many times as popular as my horny little chunk of the Internets.
If I catch you reading this column again I will strike at you with a furious anger. And I will do this FOR YOUR OWN GOOD. It is my bid to grow even more Jesus-y. -
Also; Faith the Vampirer Slayer could be a GENRE SHOW, that SURVIVES ON FOX! GIVE IT A CHANCE, FOX! GIVE I A CHANCE!
-
We're being invaded by the pestilence that is contestants wanting to be on Fux's Death Star. Auditions begin bright and early in the morning.
Ugh. -
A friend of mine, actually someone who I supervised at the time, when she visited our ski town. She was like, "Yo Yo Yo, I hear there's some great weed around here" and when my buddy was smart enough to know not to try and deal to a guest (he was a bellmen) she was like "But this is XXX, you gotta have some" Seriously, she actually talks all white woman who thinks she's a black gansta. It was terrible.
-
I'm so cool with calling this a blog! I have already posted poetry on it, I'm pretty sure. Sadly I own no cat yet, but I will obtain one, and take many photos. My way of making up for the incessant Buffy/Angel references.
-
Faith the Vampire Slayer would be great. I'm with you Herc, I've been watching Buffy on DVD because of the 10th Anniversary and I love it and I love Faith so don't worry about the Wankers saying things about you, Herc me and you will stick together.
-
Researcher: The average Stern hater listens for two and a half hours a day.
Pig Vomit: But... if they hate him, why do they listen?
Researcher: Most common answer? "I want to see what he'll say next."
Personally, I hate Herc because he doesn't reference Buffy or Angel enough. Who's high pitch? -
Yes. I have no life.
-
but when I do post in talkback, the term "meltdown" is always invoked.
Such a fine line I walk. -
is because they want your approval. You posting a talkback for a specific show one of us like makes it less of a guilty pleasure.
-
I'd watch her in a second, sportin' some of those outfits she wore on Buffy. YYyyyuummmm....that's good eatin'!! Oh yea, she's a good actress too.
-
I would definitely watch. Dushku is not a bad actress, and the character is good. With all the crap floating about this might really be good ol' tv once again if the writers are right.
But of course I think they should remake "Hello Larry" starring David Schwimmer so what the hell do I know. -
After wallowing in self pity for a couple years...Faith has given up vamp-busting. She becomes a cop by day, partnered with Donal Logue...Their pilot case...looks suspiciously like a vampire "victim" who committed hari kari before she had time to "evolve". Suspect is a low level vamp with ties to a big baddie vampire lord, played by Peter Stormare. Throw in some corrupt top level cops on the take from the vamps to "look the other way"...and I might watch it. Especially when Faith goes undercover at the Vamire Strip Club. Let's make that the second episode...so it has a chance of airing once before Fox cancels it.
-
But it may be time to jump off the Minear train. After the unintentional howler 'The Inside' and the uneven and ultimately silly 'Drive', the guy needs to rebuild some cred with me before I get behind a Faith series.
-
Go get 'em!
-
Same thing happened to Jennifer Grey...
-
I grew up skinny and tall and with a powerful thirst for margaritas.
And there is no shame in being female. -
Every January 1st, a new 14-yr old girl takes the position of "Hercules". She must be from Texas, and born on January 1st. Those who have already served as Hercules get jobs as backup singers for Gloria Estefan.
-

-
...various AICN staffers taking turns posting bits of TV news, keeping the facade alive. Which is fine with me. Occasionally one will slip up (like Merrick) and use their own handle while posting stories in Coaxial, and I'm sure Harry gives him hell over it, because they gotta keep this "persona" going. Herc's the Santa Claus of this site. A drunk, anorexic, twenty one year old Santa Claus.
-
I have no problem with your intense love for Buffy/Angel, it's just that half your posts ending up talking about them. I realize this one is *somewhat* relevant to it, but it's time to let go. We've all had plenty of shows we love get cancelled
-
In every generation, there is a Chosen TV Blogger. S/he alone will post about Buffy, Whedonverse ex-pats and pre-doomed revivals. S/he is Herc.
-
Because you are the reason I decided to give buffy and angel a chance four years or so ago. I am now the proud owner of twelve box sets that I feel the need to hide when friends visit.
-
Fox can still do it, but PLEASE air it on some other network that likes to keep shows for more than 2 episodes to see if they have an audience. It happened with buffy and angel (remember the fox logo at the very end of every ep, after all the credits?), so it doesn't have to be married to the Fox network, does it?
-
This much is obvious.
-
re-visionings or re-imaginings.
Unless you want to buy my concept . . . "Angel Whisperer." Angels appear to Eliza and whisper and there are lots of closeups of her looking spooked.
Hey, don't steal my concept before I can turn it into an idea. Or verse visa.
Eliza, call me. Our pools boys can do lunch. -
from texas
-
and then cancel it, Anchorwoman style, just to see Herc cry about it.
-
he was cool when he got his news from all sorts of spies and shady sources, now he just gets all the pilots mailed to him directly from the networks, with instructions not to speak badly about them until the night before the premiere. Still, he's always had excelent taste, he'll recommend the right shows, even if it's just the night before they're aired.
-
NOTHING! Speaking of floundering careers, what happened to SMG? Since The Grudge 1 & 2(which tanked) and Southland Tales doomed to fail B.O. wise, maybe it's time for her to make-up with Joss. Btw, on the Whedonesque site, I read an interview with James Marsters regarding his audition for Without a Trace. While there in the waiting room, he ran into Nicholas Brendon (Xander), who was also there for the same gig. James got the gig btw.
-
...restrained of late on the Buffy news. I don't think I've seen him write anything about the Angel season six comic book (which I'm highly looking forward to).
-
If it's not a live action version of the South Park Aristocrats joke starring Eliza, Trey Parker, Matt Stone and Katherine Heigl it just aint worth doin.
-
Herc, Devin the Eyetalian (from CHUD), Jeremy Smith (from CHUD)and Harry have the most entertaining writing styles from the moovee sites. SO shut it haters. Mass still has some work, but he's getting there.
-
here is the link to the first issue cover of Angel's Season Six Comic
http://whedonesque.org/media/Angel-COVER1b.jpg -
A big, gorram tease. That said: if they do it, I'm there.
I was actually waiting for a write up on the new Serenity CE DVD....Is Harry still on his honeymoon? Is anyone going to do one? Yes, I've read other reviews but I like reading them here. Everyone gets bent out of shape, I laugh. And I will ever be grateful to Herc for Buffy wildfeeds/spoilers. It's what got me to this site and got me hooked on the other write-ups.
By the by, has anyone seen the Robot Chicken with Joss Whedon on youtube yet? A rolicking magma of awesome! Grrr Arrg!+ -
You wait.
-
I've never seen much Buffy (Whedonites are scary, and I'll never forgive him for Runaways), but hey, if its your cuppa, its your cuppa. Don't let the haters get you down. That said, Buffy is pretty dead.
-
Best show ever, even my BFF Jill thinks so. (FUCKING YES, SO MUCH COFFEE, I CAN FEEL IT IN MY VEINS, AND IT FEELS LIKE SEX MAGIC!)
-
Joss wanted to do the show b4 Eliza backed out of it originally. James Marsters was supposed to be on it, sigh... God the good television we WOULD have had. Hell, I am a Browncoat who DISCOVERED Buffy only due to the repeated references on this site. I actually bought the $99 set linked FROM this site, and I'll be damned if Buffy doesnt kick the crap outta anything on TV, I watched all 7 seasons in a little over a month. Then bought Angel, and now sit here going why the freaking hell doesnt someone just BANKROLL Joss? We cant Bill Gates a copy of those DVD's? Let the man PAINT people.
-
That its not possible. For that to happen Joss would have to be involved. Joss has already said that he wont work with Fox again after the Firefly incident. So.... DAMMIT Herc had to get me momentary hope didnt you. ARGGGGg
-
Oh poo! Now i've just read Fernwicks post. Honey, I need a cocktail! Andf herc? your posts were brilliant. Just remember those that can't do, whine, bitch, piss, and moan.
-
Imagine a tougher, rougher, meaner Minear/Dushku FAITH on the (Fox-owned) cable network home to RESCUE ME, DAMAGES, NIP/TUCK and THE SHIELD. That's where this show belongs, and where it would thrive.
-
he could handle this show no problem. I don't have a problem with Herc giving career advice the Buffy crew, because they suck at it. James Marsters could've went onto winning Oscars, but instead he takes bit roles on TV. Xander's doing Sci-channel movies, and Gellar is busy being the queen of J-horror dreck. And of course...True Calling sucked.
-
...Jessica Jones in a series based on Brian Bendis' ALIAS/THE PULSE, or the Jessica Drew Spider-Woman, or as Sasha Bordeaux in a CHECKMATE series.
As for FAITH THE VAMPIRE SLAYER, I love the Buffyverse but it's time to finally put a stake in it and move on before it becomes as overmined as STAR TREK.
-
Buffy and Angel never really had killer ratings.
-

I, for one, would be very happy with a Faith special
by col. tigh-fighter
Buffy was littered with some of TV's coolest characters. The only thing better than a Faith movie would be a Wican Willow special. And the only thing cooler than that, and frankly possibly the coolest thing in TV history, would be an evil lesbo vamp Willow special. Not that would rock!!!
-
Any possible Faith series must be placed on FX. It will die on Fox after 5 weeks.
-
So a Faith series on FX makes sense.
-
She was a cool character that we barely got to know. Plus, she'd be a good way to lead us into more of the Orginal Demons mythology Whendon establushed for Buffy and Angel.
Faith and Illyria, wouldn't that make a good chick team. -
..if the BBC puts together that "Ripper" show as they'd been threatening.
http://www.syfyportal.com/news424086.html
Sorry for back to back posts and using the term "Buffyverse" -
made a great team in Angel Season 4 when they hunted Angelus.
-
Joss did say that it was his favorite character to write for :D
Writers do tend to indulge themselvs, but again, it couldnt be on Fox. For example, Ripper is going to be on BBC. Personally im just glad the Buffyverse isnt dead :) -
would any creative talent with half a brain even try to get Fox to air one of their TV shows. After Sliders/Firefly/Wonderfalls I just don't believe Fox has the intelligence to back a creative show. But they did show their lack of it by giving Tru Calling a second ( kinda ) season. Thank you God for Ron Moore not getting BSG on Fox, though Scifi is almost, if not more clueless than Fox. Flash Gordon....shudder, its 10 times worse than the 3rd season of Sliders and thats PRETTY FUCKING BAD!
-
I'm all for it, but c'mon, you know she'll be a troubled psychic who talks to dead people or a crime scene investigator. There aren't enough of either of those on TV right now.
-
Please post some actual news and not some fanboy wanking on a dead property.
-
but really id watch a faith the vampire slayer series. the buffyverse was never overminded. it was gone before its time.
-
Just get her back on TV doing something, even if it's doomed to be cancelled in about 20 minutes. Hey, I liked Buffy and Angel as much as the next geek, but I really think it's best to leave it rest. I have no doubt that any resurrection of it on TV would invariably dissapoint the fans of the original. Best just to start her fresh with something new.
-
Two seasons before they canceled it but my wife and I watched to the end anyway. Too many missteps along the way messed up one of the best serial dramas dealing with growing up that has ever been on tv.
A Faith the vampire slayer show will NEVER happen! Never! She needs to follow the lead of Charisma Carpenter and head to Playboy now, or better yet Penthouse because it is so much cooler now. -
Yes.. yes; yes. Faith the Vampire Slayer really should be made - and as a TV show. That would be very good indeed. I think it would be popular. Can't the TV people see that the people like the Buffy the Vampire Slayer Universe (or "Buffiverse"), we still talk about it and like it even now, a few years after it ended on TV. The comic is quite popular. Herc - use your powers to make this come true. I think this would be one of the best things to come on television, and I would definitely download it and buy the DVD set a few years later.
-
As much as I loved the Buffy and actually preferred Angel . . . I think Fox should get back to it's roots. Dushku still looks youthful, right? Time to for TV to emulate movies and do remakes. Can you say 21 Jump Street? Start with Dushku and add Wilmer Valderama (he isn't busy). I need help with the rest of the cast of cops who can go undercover in high school, any ideas?
-
Let it go, man. Just hope that Eliza lands someone more fresh and interesting than TRU CALLING. With a lot of cleavage.
-
Aug 27, 2007 12:03:18 PM CDT
As long as Dushku gets tied to a bed a la Wrong Turn...
by osmosis jones
...I'll watch anything she's in.
-
Stop going to Fox and waste 6 months of their lives on Pilots and series that will never be given a chance and head over to ABC where they are interested in Genre programing.
-
but at least she preferred her men warm and alive.
-
But only if Joss himself is involved so I'm not holding out too much hope for FAITH. However, as long as Eliza continues to wear lowcut, tight outfits I'll take a gander.
-
Well, we can be dream...
-
You gotta have Faith
Yes, you gotta have Faith, Faith, Faith
-

Dushku is the sexiest tomboy beanpole on the planet!
by thepurplelantern
seriously though, this show would rock.
-
Nicholas Brendon should be available, Marsters and Mercedes McNab, that'd be enough of a start. Maybe bring Amy Acker in a bit later, and have guest spots by J. August Richards, and the guy who played Andrew. Let Cordelia, Tara, and Anya rest in piece. Have the first big bad be Ethan Rayne, maybe with an assist by Amy the Rat.
Oh and, BTw, buffy's been dead before, but she always comes back. -
Aren't these the bastards who have Firefly TV rights by the balls and are squeezing them to a pulp? Isn't Whedon effectively retired from giving us new TV or movies because of how hurt he was by FOX? Aren't these the fuckwads who are going to cancel the Sarah Connor Chronicles by midseason if it's any good (if it sucks it'll last, I'm sure)? ************************ While we're at it with the wishlist, it should be called FAITH and SPIKE, and OZ should be in it too. Just saying...
-
The only characters uncompleted.
No more Spike, please. I love him, but he was perfectly done in Chosen (no need to see him in Angel ¬_¬) -
Not that it would ever happen, but a Faith show would just be teh end. Either way, though, I'm happy that Eliza will be doing more on TV because of the deal.
-
Is that.....a castle?? Where did he get that axe? Where's Spike & Illyria?? Is Herc going to give us spoilers like he did for the Buffy comics??? *ack*
-
I take it you haven't been reading the 'Season 8' comic.
-
I would assume that the actual cover will have the surviving members...In fact, its' been my experience with Idlewild, that they tend to release two to three variant covers simultaneously with the initial release. Btw, you should check out their latest Spike comic arc - Shadow Puppets. It deals with the return of the Smile Time Puppets. It's also written by the same author who is writing the first season six story arc of Angel Titled After the Fall. He was personally appointed by Joss, who was impressed with his take on spike in Shadow Puppets.
-
What's the difference?
-
TALENT DEAL - Studio rolls out red carpet to a "star" who would then appear in a vehicle of his/her choosing...with script/director approval and more bonus points on the back end. PRODUCTION DEAL - A production company with a good track record (think JJ Abrams & Bad Robot, or Jerry Bruckhiemer) is tapped to produce shows exclusively for one studio...Guaranteed distribution outlet, bonus for high ratings, etc. DEVELOPEMENT DEAL - Think..."From the creators of Will & Grace...and Sex & The City"...Writers/producers with proven track records given blank checks to create new shows for the fall schedule. These guys get paid to pitch and shoot a pilot which (normally) is already greenlit. ABC approached Barry Sonnenfeld for a show, or development of a show...and now we get "Pushing Daisies" this fall. Developement deals can be inked with a writer, a star, a director, or producer. Sounds like Eliza's deal was a combo of a talent & developement deal, which is not uncommon. I'd love to see it on FX rather than Fox...so she can throw out the occasional "asshole"...or "shit" in her casual dialog. But there are so many Buffyverse alums who could pop up in the pilot...a season finale cliffhanger, etc...I think it would be the safest project for her to proceed with....built in audience and all.
-
Nice shooting with that shark, too.
-
I actually have been reading the Season eight comic, but I figured most of the viewing public had not, and fox execs wouldn't give a crap about continuity. I think ethan rayne is a great character and would make for good television. I think amy VS Faith would make for a good catfight as well.
-
Why would anyone want to have her as the main character of a tv show? Wasnt it bad enough to have her stink up every Buffy and Angel episode. Why would you encourage Eliza Dushku to stick around, the sooner she is off tv the better
-
...in my pants! Eliza Dushku is the baddest sexiest rock chick beanpole on the planet!
I don't even care that TRU CALLING wasn't brilliant. I just got to watch Eliza running up and down the street for an hour every week. My God, that wench can run.
And every now and then I watch the changing room scene in THE NEW GUY, just to make myself cry. That body was made in Heaven, but I bet she goes like Hell. What a woman.
PS - Faith the slayer? Bit obvious, dontcha think? How about Eliza as the next version of that Starbuck girl in BIONIC WOMAN? Dushku vs Michelle Ryan? I think my dick might explode. -
She survived the final battle against the Senior Partners of Wolfram & Hart.
She was a hell of a character. -
Aug 29, 2007 11:20:07 AM CDT
An Illyria series would be awsome. I loved that chara
by crichtonastronut
charcter. Amy Acker played a total reversal of Fred, seeing her performance was a revealation.
-
Is that it didn't start to get good until near the end of the season, after they had driven away most of their potential audience. They should have scrapped the first half of the show and started the storyline in the middle.
I'll certainly give her another chance, if it is genre.
