A Landmark Independent Horror Film Has Its Trailer Up.... THE SIGNAL!!!
Hey folks, Harry here... Earlier this year, THE SIGNAL was unleashed... first at Sundance... then later at SXSW... Those that saw THE SIGNAL... folks like Quint and myself went dogshit crazy over the film.
The teaser trailer that is up at Apple in Glorious Quicktime is bizarre... might make some of you swallow your tongue and froth at the mouth. It is not immediately indicative of the film you would see if the signal caught you and took you to see it. This is a horror film in the vein of Seventies horror. It's lean and mean, socially aware and daring as hell. Directed by 3 directors that went crazy in Atlanta with a crew of friends - and finally put together a film that could not be ignored. THE SIGNAL is powerful. It is an unforgettable journey into madness, love and the dream of sanity. It is one of the very best films I've seen thus far this year.

As Hot Rod would say.
-
Even though it could be a triple dip for some, I held on and waited for the Serenity 2 disc CE; it's all that and a bag of chips. Well worth getting.
-
but it should be nothing more than an afterthought once Cell comes out.
-
Isn't that word reserved for church...along with things like "love" and "healing"?
-
Is the a remake of Cell or White Noise?
-
this would be that trailer. I'm shocked I'm not having seizures right now.
Booo, to that trailer. -
Or does this look like they watched "28 Days Later..." quite a few times? Or read "Cell?" I could be wrong, it just might be one of the best films Harry's seen thus far this year.
-
i'm psyched you guys like this film, but seriously, that trailer SUCKS!
-
It's a horror movie. It's sounds pretty cool as far as the description is concerned - but "Socially Aware" is liberal codespeak for "Socialist Shit".
-
it's usually the most consistent. I've RARELY had an issue with it. Even though there are cool new players coming out...
-
Stephen King's novel 'Cell'. Which sucked after the second chapter.
-
... it works and gives a high quality image.
-
28 Days Later. But instead of a virus making everybody kill one another, crazy berserker style, it's a "signal".
-
than 28 days later, but they're not really comparable.
-
Can we make a modern horror movie without a billion hyper cuts, and, jarring After Effects visuals?? Whatever happened to the subtle filmaking!
-
A term that makes studio heads flee in terror! Almost as bad as "character based drama"...or "satirical comedy"...This looks cool, though.
-
I saw this at Sundance after hearing the glowing reviews. AVOID IT. Lame. Amateurish. Enough about this one already. Move along.
-
I do. This film kicks ass.
-
I saw a much better trailer for this a long time ago. This trailer tells nothing about the premise of the movie or why I should go see it. Maybe if I had ADD and liked videogames I would have enjoyed this shit trailer more.
-
... that the filmmakers used the original name of Atlanta -- Terminus -- as the name of the city. I live in ATL and call it "Terminus" all the time and everyone looks at me like I'm crazy. Which I am. But that is beside the point.
-
I don't know if Stephen King's Cell came first, or not, but this movie's WAY too similar.
-
If you guys say it's good, though, I'll gladly give it a shot. We need more great horror films.
-
I can rarely get it to work! Always this or that missing, always gotta update it, it never plays smoothly if at all! Quicktime is Shite! and this trailer is ok although i nearly had a fit wid all the flashing! looks a bit like 'Ring 28 days later please'
-
..that Stephen King isn't a litigious type. Or they're "landmark" movie might never see the light of day.
Terrible teaser. Tired of all the flashing. -
it is really really good...not that anyone copuld tell from that truly rotten trailer. dear god of all the great things they could have cut together they come up with this??
trust me the ignore that trailer - the film is great. -
I saw this film at Sundance. It is truly an awesome little horror film. If you ask me, this trailer sucks-- it doesn't do the film justice. This is no zombie movie, as some people seem to believe. Definitely check this one out.
-
About nine months ago?
-
Exact same piece of 'cool' news. Except that now we aren't suffering that fucking New Year's animation.
-
comparing this to Cell.
1. that movie isn't even shot yet (let alone cast)
2. eli roth is a hack (does anyone remember cabin fever?)
3. how many movies have existed with similar plots? (why start crying now?)
why not just enjoy this for what it is? -
Just...terrible.
-
that was a fuckin shit trailer
-
...that is all.
-
I'm sorry...that trailer just plain sucked.
Sucked. Sucked. Suckity SUCKED.
Made no sense. Gave me a headache. Didn't make me want to see it at ALL.
Nope. Not at all.
-
I would've preferred to be given some set-up or hear some dialogue. Visually it looked interesting and I'm always down for an indie horror film with balls, but the trailer seems to convey chaos and not much else. There was nothing here that I haven't seen in publicity photos. I guess I just expected more than a teaser, but at least it doesn't give away the whole movie like the Before the Devil Knows You're Dead trailer.
-
Period.
-
and this movie seem like the same plot, I hope they don't have the same GAY ending.....
-
i'm betting the king adaptation will be better than this...for whatever that's worth
-
Landmark indie films skidmarking the infidels!Bah - this looked like shit. I need to see how the FILM really LOOKS and not this jump-cut, hyperactive mess.
-
The movie may be amazing, but that's one of the worst trailers I've ever seen, hands down. It isn't even a teaser trailer. You can't tease something without showing anything, and that trailer showed me nothing. Something about watching TV and a bunch of people running around or yelling or swinging things. Could just as easily be about any action, sci-fi, or horror movie. ANY movie. Just a bunch of noise. That sort of trailer speaks ill of the movie it's promoting. It says 'we don't have anything interesting to offer here, so we'll just throw a bunch of nonsense edited with a bunch of noise and say it's a trailer'.

A remake of Cell already that was fast wait a second...
by spectrebeeyatch
This looks like 28 Days Later meets Pulse(horrible movie). This trailer was nothing really looked like clips from other movies with static in between. They better advertise this better or most people will write it off as a sci-fi channel movie ripping off other sci-fi channel movies.
-
because the hate for him is so fucking ridiculous that I can only assume he went around fucking everyones mothers. I can;t help but feel that this is all projection...like if harry didn;t love him so much and know him etc the hate would not be at the over the top levels that it is. There are far far far worse directors than roth out there. I happen to like his films so obviously I think that but jesus christ the hate drives me nuts. I hate the hate.
-
SK's Cell came out on Jan. 24, 2006 ... and the production folks said they were working on Signal when someone brought the book in.
-
this looks like a great movie, to bad they did not put out the same trailer that they had a few months ago it was much better.
-
here is the old trailer that someone messed up by putting shitty music to it but you get a better idea about the movie
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UWCUVeFn_MI -
Waaaaah!
Why don't the losers who bitch about Quicktime fucking up their computers just download a free copy of VLC Media Player and watch ANY fucking format they want, yes, even .mov files. Christ people, it's 2007, not 1998. I'm way older than most of you and even I know this. -
Again, big steve can't finish a book, but he never really could. But the first half or so of Cell kicked a lot of tuchas.
But enough of this, what's the word on "Right At Your Door"?
-
Avid Farts. Dumb. Just... dumb.
-
sounds like a complete rip of offa Cell which until about halfway through it was brilliant then nosedived into "what the fuck is going on" and then King hadn't a clue how to finish it and ultimately wrecked what started off as a great book... but i love checking out indie horror movies in the hope that we get to see gems, and from what you guys have said ill be checking this out but for the love of god ring them and tell them to fire there marketing boys
-
It failed to sell anything, which is what a trailer is supposed to do.
-
Are they marketing "The Signal" to fat, braindead, ADD-stricken eleven-year-olds? Because that's the sense I got from the trailer. It's true this film might be great, and I might otherwise want to see it, but that trailer gave me a splitting hyperedited headache. Seriously, trailer makers: slow the shit down! Slow it the FUCK down!
-
I worked on this shoot, I grew up with David Bruckner, I have made countless shorts with these same people..that said...THIS MOVIE IS NOTHING LIKE THE CELL. Imagined before that was published, well into production when it came out, and a completely different story regardless. THIS MOVIE IS AMAZING.You have never seen anything like it...The homegrown Atlanta film maker takeover is imminent...
-
..."Cell".
-
...I´ll give it a shot. I believe you, but don´t you let me down, punk!
-
actually, the shot of the girl in front of the static-y TV reminded me of POLTERGEIST.
-
Thats what I gather from his pompus attitude in interviews and such. He comes off as an ass.
-
cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell cell so there, no we all know, this is rip of the cell, or so all of you think. anyone have anything to add?
-
Pretty sure this new look at the signal is another teaser, and not the official trailer. Looks pretty good though. People keep comparing this one to The Cell, but the movie was made before that book even came out. I think The Signal's new release date is supposed to be somtime during the winter...
-
God, Roth was embarrassing in Death Proof. You could almost make out Tarantino's nut sack imprint on Eli's chin.
-
It was addressed in the Sundance post Quint did oh so long ago. SK's Cell came out mid-to-late production on The Signal. So yeah ... no chance of rip-off syndrome.
-
Generally, the only time I see something as "Unrated" is during the DVD release. I think ratings in theaters are more important, because it's going to determine what audience can view your film. When it comes to DVD, people rent, buy or borrow so they don't care as much. Plus extra footage gives people an incentive to buy it on DVD when they already saw it in the theater. And let's be honest - when we see "unrated" we automatically assume we're seeing more gore, more boobs or both.
-
The above post was supposed to go into the talkback for "Lust, Caution" - how'd it end up in here? Too many dinner beers on my part? Hahaha - who am I kidding! Can you ever have too many dinner beers?
-
..its the crazy..
-
"Why can't you just keep your mouth shut and watch TV?!"
-
I've met my share of folks from Georgia and trust me these people aren't taking over shit. The cast of Kid Nation has a better shot than those cats. Don't let their city slicker clothes fool you, you can take a Georgian out of the Jug Band, but you can't take the Jug Band out of a Georgian.
