Tougher than a sack of pitbulls Redband Trailer on NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN coming tomorrow!!!

Published at:  Aug 23, 2007 3:26:13 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here... Every now and again, it is really damn cool to run one of these sites... like today, when I got given an advanced look at the redband trailer for the Coen Brothers' NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN.

Sure - I should have been at Cannes watching the whole damn film early, but alas - this has been a complicated year, thus far. But today I got a look at a classic - I WANT TO SEE THAT NOW - trailer.

www.NoCountryForOldMen.com - if you go there now, you won't see much... but at some point tomorrow - you're gonna get a peek at Javier Bardem being... a fricking psychopathic badass. Killing with a macabre southern glee. His face looking like something from a CREEPY magazine. There's an odd echo of Martin Landau's Bela Lugosi.

The trailer begins with Javier pulling a man over in a cop car... asking the man to get out of the car... you see that Javier is carrying a tank with a hose and some sort of device on the end of the hose. He asks the man to hold still - and ... I think he gets killed with compressed air. It's freaky and immediate.

There's a series of shots to show just how isolated and smack in the middle of nowhere they all are. Frames get flooded with blood, sometimes isolating an element here or there. You see mountains, a lonely windmill that turns red with blood as we learn this is based on a novel by Cormac McCarthy.

Then you see a figure walking alone on the prairie, that's revealed to be Josh Brolin... he's got a rifle across one shoulder and a pair of binoculars around his neck. He sees a bit of blood in the dirt, then several trucks and some bodies dead, then a dead dog, then a satchel loaded with $100 bills in their bank wrappers. Then blood fills the screen with the words, "ONE OPPORTUNITY CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE."

You see him taking the money to his room as his girl friend asks what he's doing, and he answers her honestly - then blood fills the screen with the words, "ONE MISTAKE," then a shot of Josh filling a gallon jug of water, then a shot of Javier driving at night with the bleed in, "CAN DESTROY IT" - from there - we see Javier killing non-stop and various law enforcement types played by Tommy Lee Jones and Woody Harrelson assessing the situation.

The overall feeling of the trailer is that Javier is a nightmare - and that Brolin is most likely fucked like a resident of a chicken ranch.

In many ways - this trailer reminds me of the original HITCHER, but with better shots, actors and story set up. Can't wait for y'all to check this trailer out - and then the movie in late November. This will be one of the best movies we see this year!

My most anticipated movie of 2007

    by john-locke

Really can't wait to see this film, seen an earlier trailer and the compressed air thing has me intrigued to the max, the fact that it's also got a fuckin' A cast, looks to be full of tension and is Directed by the Brothers Coen means that this is a must see movie. Funnily enough my second most anticipated movie of 2007 has just got the full trailer Treatment, The Assasination of Jesse James By The Coward Robert Ford, in Glorious HD no less. See that here. http://tinyurl.com/27h4qu

As far as I know you've seen a rough cut, two questions. 1: When can you give your views on it. 2: Is the AICN God that is Sly going to repeat the awesome Q&A that he did prior to Rocky Balboa? I know this is off topic but I'd much appreciate a response dude. Cheers.

Tarantino + Eastwood = No Country For Old Men

    by stephenhawkingdiarrhea

I read the novel after seeing the initial trailer for this and it is phenomenal. It really feels like a story that crosses Reservoir Dogs with a Clint Eastwood western. It is very violent and has some of the single best dialogue for Javier Bardem's character. It is a smooth read, but the trailer is misleading as to who the main character is. It is really about Tommy Lee Jones' sherrif learning to deal with the violence that takes over his town.

This is going to be a great film if they stick to the source. The Coens vision can only emphasize the text.

    (spoiler)

Chigurh uses it to execute people and break deadbolt locks, doesn't he? That doesn't seem to be too unrealistic. If it can kill cattle, it can kill people...and a chickenshit hotel lock is probably weaker than a cow's thick skull.

The book doesn't pull any punches, and if the film follows it, this'll be great. But, this is one movie that would do well with some voice-overs, that's one thing that I would miss if it was taken out.

This is kind of a regional thing. Does anyone live in a region where a specific actor is still huge despite his waning popularity in the rest of the country? I only bring it up because Tommy Lee Jones is huge in Nebraska. He has a lot of fans. "The Missing" sold out in the theater I worked at but it tanked elsewhere. The same goes for Kevin Costner. "Open Range" played for months.

Cormac McCarthy is the new Faulkner. The Coen Bros. are the perfect guys to adapt NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN. I hope it turns out to be, at least, as good as FARGO. I'm also looking forward to the film adaptation of ATONEMENT, another recent literary masterpiece.

Kicking tip there, couple of quick google searches and I was right in. Cheers! On a sidenote, I was interested to see that george was born in 1946 and so was dodging actually being in wars himself from an early age.

As for the trailer - Mmmmmm. The Coen Bros do this better than anyone so am looking forward to seeing this on the screen. I always do the same thing with their films though, get real excited as soon as I hear what the next film is, sit in a theatre in awe when I actually see it, and then slip into a deep dark sorrow and soon as it finishes because I know what I am going to have to wait at least 2 years for their next one. Maybe it's practice for my upcoming smack addition?

    by ye olde shiza

I guess, after reading up, it only accepts what is on your license. I tried the George Bush thing, and no luck. I have two licenses, one from Louisiana and another from Washington State. The Washington State zip code did not work for me, possibly because where I lived it was a new development and not even on the map yet, even though that's my latest license.
I don't know. But my original Louisiana zip code worked, even though I haven't lived there for two years.
If anyone else is having problems similar, try just running through your old zip codes.

Yes, I saw those films and I enjoyed them immensely. But I do seem to think that even in those more 'straight' films there's an artifice that always keeps me at a distance. Some of the dialogue in this trailer is flat-out hokey, but the overall impression I get is of a much more 'organic' storytelling style.

i hope this stuff gets logged somewhere coz ol' george has seen some funny/scary trailers recently e.g. superbad red band trailer. just a quick note that Woody Harrelson isn't a arm of the law in anyway he plays Carson Wells whose pretty much as badass as Bardem and is sent to find bardem/the money/the drugs, if it plays out the same as the book as someone up top has said then its a real interesting psychological twist.

    Cormac McCarthy's THE ROAD

    by laserpants

Needs to be made into a movie. If you haven't read it, do so immediately. Its a quick read, and its absolutely amazing. Totally terrifying, achingly sad, beautiful. Read it!!! He's got an interesting style, very minimal, but very descriptive; able to create a powerful mood and setting, with sparse, tightly controlled, plain-language prose.

    1. The age verification is bullshit.
    2. Why should be have to verify our age for essentially the same footage the original trailer showed. There's a little more blood. That's it.
