If it wasn't cool enough seeing De Niro and Pacino teaming up for RIGHTEOUS KILL, now they've got a great female lead!!!

Published at:  Aug 23, 2007 7:33:48 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. We've talked about this film here before... how can we not? It's a story about two New York cops chasing down a serial killer... and those cops are being played by Robert De Niro and Al Pacino. Directed by Jon Avnet from a script by INSIDE MAN's Russell Gewirtz. Okay, so exciting.

There's a female lead that just got filled by the lovely and talented Carla Gugino, who will play a crime scene investigator who ends up in a relationship with De Niro's character, the ol' dog.

I like it so far. This could be incredibly great or it could be a big, disappointing trainwreck. I have a lot of faith in those involved, though, and seeing them all collaborate on a story like this has me excited.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Deniro and Pacino have to be pushing 60 now, if not completely past that, right?

Even though I'm not convinced that this is going to happen with this movie - I'm not saying that it's not a great idea. In fact, this may be the way that we could eventually see some serious hardcore DC stories realized, like Kingdom Come, Crisis on Infinite Earths, etc...fanboy dreams, I know...BUT, I think that mo-cap is the only way that we'll ever get to that point.

I adore DeNiro but man he's determined with every role he takes to test the limits of my ability to look past what he's done of late back to the good work (not even the great, just good would be nice). And Avnet is a terrible director, he made snore-fest rom drama Up Close & Personal and the dull as they come "thriller" Red Corner. I thought Inside Man was pretty good and DeNiro and Pacino will get me in but i'm prepared for the worst cause it's bound to come.

    a) be careful with your JLA talk, this is AICN and remember they are notorious for pulling talkbacks or banning people who aren't even remotly on subject or who hijack a talkback, see the LOST incident in May for a reminder of that. I say this not to spoil your discussion but as a word of warning to my fellow Talkback Fiendsb)Carla Guigno is most assuradly hot. I caught a little bit of Spy Kids 3 the other dya as I was flipping through channels and she is hot in that, in everything she does, but her with DeNiro and/or Pacino is just creepy, as someone above mentioned, DeNiro played her dad in a previous movie, so yeah just kinda creepy.

Hey! So that means more pointless 'Crash' type moments about ethnic tensions? More random jokes about Albanians? More of the worst police work on film? More wacky subplots about a lazy guy crashing on the hero's couch? More obvious "twist" action? Another character like Jodie Foster's who contributed nothing to the plot? Another hero who doesn't even seem to care about the plot? More tasteless crass humourizing about a hostage's rack? More WWII stuff that doesn't make sense in a film set in present day?I can't wait! I think I've got my worst script of next year already picked out!

I'm actually more excited to see these to actors together this late in their career. It'll be interesting to see if they show us a different older side of them we haven't seen yet. Maybe spark a little of their younger self but in context to who they are now. Hopefully it'll be like discovering these two old actors as if they were fresh and new to the scene.

    by skimn

..chicks dig the mole. What would've been the age difference when he made that flick with Uma Thurman? DeNiro's been coasting on a handful of great performances and hasn't done anything of note lately. Showtime? Moose & Squirrel? Fock the Parents? Of course any actors would give their left nut to have the classic roles DeNiro has under his belt. Oh, and two NY cops on the trail of a serial killer? Hope something original can be weaved from that old plotline.
