Scorsese's Rolling Stones rockumentary - SHINE A LIGHT trailer literally rocks!
Hey folks, Harry here - when I was out in L.A. on the trip, I saw an early version of this trailer that was slightly different... the vintage flashback of Mick was different, but it absolutely had this same energy and vitality. I don't know about you, but I love Marty's musical docs... they're breathtaking because they capture the soul of the performance - and the image and music are absolutely hand in hand. Take a look, I hear this doesn't hit till April next year, but I, for one, can not wait to see it!

beatles>rolling stones.
but this does look like a solid project. -
This looks pretty fucking cool. Can't wait for it.
-
and again!
-
Fantastic!
-
you have to see this, right?
-
great link to...
absolutely nothing... atleast that's all I'm seeing...
anyone else??? -
there it is...
...nothing like seeing footage of Mick Jagger grinding "himself" into a chick who's young enough to be his granddaughter. -
You telling me you wouldn't grind on Xtina, no matter what age you are?
-
For a trailer that takes the time to mention they are playing songs they've never played live they sure played enough of their hits. Looks good though.
-
also, how the f*ck are they all still alive? Except for Brian, that was a train wreck... Stones were the best during the Taylor years, no doubt. Dual micks FOREVER.
-
It looks like a fun one.
-
ummm... I'd never try to tell anyone I wouldn't interested if she made the offer...
...but the geriatric angle is a little stomach turning...
besides, poor Mick could end up needing a hip replacement, after Christina puts her moves on... -
The Stones are juiceless, sadly. They're all used up. This'll be everything The Last Waltz wasn't, and vice versa...
-
I think I remember seeing that.
-
I'm just saying, I think Hollywood's priorities are out of whack.
-
but it's too bad they haven't come out with a decent album for decades. So long as they're touring I give them props for actually trying to write new material.
-
Seriously.
-
Keith Richards for Keith Richards.
-
I see dead people.
-
I'll have to see this. I saw them live in Chicago in 2002 and live at the Super Bowl in 2006. Blew me away. They shit all over the Beatles. Sorry, but it's true.
-
Was the best Rockumentary I have ever seen. I watch it two or three times a year. The music of The Band is fantastic!!
-
Or the trailer moves back and forth. Please be aware how you throw the term "literally" around.
-
I would love to see Marty do a White Stripes documentary.
-
Seeing Jack White made me happy. Also, Scorsese knocked The Last Waltz and No Direction Home out of the park, and it isn't like there's anything he can direct that I wouldn't see anyway. Also, A Bigger Bang is a pretty good album. Not Exile on Main Street good, but good.

Well, the greatest rockumentary has already been made.
by mr. nice gaius
It's called THE KIDS ARE ALRIGHT. And The Who (in their heyday) shat all over the Stones and the Beatles. It's a shame that there are only two left! From the infamous explosion: http://tinyurl.com/2hrrbz to the unbelievable: http://tinyurl.com/2whrog to the transcendent: http://tinyurl.com/2kyn26

He's had a series of quality albums since mid-90s. These fruitles haven't released a decent tune since "Wild Horses".
-
best rockdoc ever
-
For me, this is Scorsese's last chance to redeem himself. After recent years of mostly mediocre films, and the particularly regretful, artistic failure of the Departed, I'm more worried than ever that he has lost his talent for making great films. Documentaries aside, he's been very disappointing lately.
-
It was pretty sweet. The Beacon's not really a great concert venue, though. Not for a rock show, anyway. But it was still an amazing event. Bill Clinton introduced them as part of his 60th birthday bash. And A Bigger Bang was a pretty great album. I don't get all the hate, except from people who claim that they haven't made a decent album since Exile. These people clearly haven't listened to either Exile or any of their other albums. Sure, it's a landmark album, but it's not the best thing they ever did. Where's the love for Let it Bleed, or Beggar's Banquet, or Some Girls? Hell, am I the only one who loves Voodoo Lounge?

I love the Stones and I love Marty!
-
What are these guys turning into, fucking Aerosmith?? Associating themselves with teenybopper hacks? (ala Aerosmith & Nsync). God knows I respect Marty, but seeing her in that footage was a shock and dissapointment.
-
ALthough she is a teeny bopper, you are a fucking moron heavy metal cocksucker to believe that she can't sing.
-
this is completely of the utmost utter disappointing. MARTIN SCORSESE was an individual in whom i myself and in additionally my fellow film collegues whom have studied many of films greatest triumphs in history to be a truly inspiratorially genius. why a man who produced such classics as GOODFELLAS, THE GODFATHER, and WALL ST., and all other movies with italians in them would stoop as so low to which he would include wasting time on a band as the ROLLING STONES. i would personally expected from more of him. i was so much of certainness that he would have a taste of refinedness in music which would include the likes of MOZART and BAYTUVEN. he has not only disappointed me, but in also the informed community of scholars of film studies and really any one pretty much whom appreciates filim in doing this project of god's forsakenness. what are yours guys's thougths.?

The Exile 72 Tour is awesome. This is where they earned their reputation. I love Ronnie Wood but why don't they acknowledge Mick T's work with them?
-
It's Beethoven... not Baytuven... I hope that was a joke of some kind.
-
Why all the hatred? Mick is cool... The Stones are cool... They always have been and they always will be. Everyone makes fun of them cause they are in their 60's and still touring. Paul McCartney is just as old and no one makes fun of him. Maybe cause he's not ann entire rock-n-roll band... I dunno... Butg everyone makes fun of the Stones unless they are some how co-erced or dragged to a show... then they become converted believers that Stones are the 8th Wonder of the World. The Stones are fantastic... I challenge anyone on here to watch any of their live DVD's on a nice big screen and surround sound system and try and tell me they wouldn't have loved to be there during that show.

Filmgenius,
I think that, "...project of God’s foresakenness.", is the single greatest phrase I have ever seen written or posted in conjunction with this film site(or any site for that matter). As criticism, it can not be topped. It is succinct, hilarious, timeless and devastating, and....I am sincerely jealous. You’ve certainly earned your moniker, filmgenius. If there is some truly higher force or being out there with the power and the sense of irony to shape other men’s destinies to satisfy the personal whims of a bored few, may he grant you the role of a guest, nay, a permanent film reviewer for this site.
Anyone else agree? -
Oh wow... The Rolling Stones... the most overrated band ever, playing with Jack White, who's Band The White Stripes is the second most overrated band ever. They both suck ass...

Then surely if you've studied the great man, you'll know he was the editor on Woodstock,he's made a documentary about The Band (The Last Waltz) and a documentary about Dylan so it's not exactly a stretch to film the Rolling Stones now, is it? However, I do look forward to any film you may make on the subject of BAYTUVEN.
-
Fucking hate Scorsese and Rolling Stones.
-
That just got me all fuzzy! The Stones and Marty go together so well it's criminal! I aint a fan of music movies in general but I love the Stones and I luvs me sum Marty even more so I will indulge.
-
Fuck yes, Marty and the motherfuckin STONES! They still have the magic well at least since last year, BIGGER BANG!
-
was when Keith blows out the smoke.
Worst bit was when any 'guests' came on. Really, do they need to bring in Jack White et al for a Stones doc?
What would make the film interesting is if it was all about how the Stones had become this bloated monster, how they were bringing in guest stars and using different guitars for every track and just have lost direction... Unfortunately the trailer seems to indicate it's Marty schmoozing with his favourite band for 90 minutes.
A Rollong Stones version of "Some Kind of Monster" would be awesome -
...chiming in. Christina has a great voice, but she can't sing for shit. Just like she has a great body, but who knows how she actually fucks? The Who live probally did shit all over the beatles, and the recorded media would seem to support that. But The Beatles wrote the best songs. The Stones made for a happy median. There was that live video, something something satanic roadshow or some crap. It was a Stones show, and they were great, but The Who did blow them away in it. Thats all. I'm goin' back to suckin' some cock and listening to White Snake. Kick ass.
-
Unlike the Stones themselves. Looks can be decieving. They're playing better than ever. Christina can sing her ass off, even if you don't like her tunes (bet she can fuck her ass off as well). Her voice is nicely suited to some of their more soulful R&B and she gives you something to look at other than Mick's prunish, Don Knotts like visage. I'll check it out with an open mind.
-
...and that doc still rocked. Go back and watch it. They even had Dr.John for God's sake! There's nothing wrong w/ a little bit of today's talent coming out and playing w/ the Stones. And I don't care what you say about Aguilera, she's got pipes. And it's not like she's singing Genie in a Bottle in this. She's probably singing on Gimme Shelter or something (haven't watched the trailer yet). And I swear, making fun of the Stones for being old is older and more tired than the Stones will EVER be.
-
Yeah the Stones are overrated. Whatever. Go listen to ABBA.
-
Seriously I'd rather see vids of them perform in their prime then see them now.

YOU KNOW WHAT'S DEFINITELY WORTH CHECKING OUT?
by the breasts of midol girl
US, THAT'S WHAT.
-
...The only good looking thing about this is seeing that maybe Buddy Guy might show Keef how to actually play a fucking decent solo.
-
"why a man who produced such classics as GOODFELLAS, THE GODFATHER, and WALL ST." Where do you get your information, you witless cretin? Coppola directed The Godfather, Stone directed Wall Street. Scorsese has been a life-long fan of The Rolling Stones , so why wouldn't he put the time in to document his favorite rock band? Jeez, you're an asshole.
-
I can think of at least two big fat lies concerning your nickname. Think about it while walking towards fuck you.
-
...are dissing both Scorcese and the Rolling Stones. Who are you comparing them to? My Chemical Romance and Rob Zombie? I seen the Stones in Slane last weekend, and they fuckin blew me away.
-
...who seen The Who the summer before. And they sucked in comparison.
-
Are the two bestest Rolling Stones movies. Watch them both. The latter has cooler music, but the former is fuuuuhuuuuucked up! Classic docu...
