Scorsese's Rolling Stones rockumentary - SHINE A LIGHT trailer literally rocks!

Published at:  Aug 20, 2007 8:28:01 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here - when I was out in L.A. on the trip, I saw an early version of this trailer that was slightly different... the vintage flashback of Mick was different, but it absolutely had this same energy and vitality. I don't know about you, but I love Marty's musical docs... they're breathtaking because they capture the soul of the performance - and the image and music are absolutely hand in hand. Take a look, I hear this doesn't hit till April next year, but I, for one, can not wait to see it!

Seeing Jack White made me happy. Also, Scorsese knocked The Last Waltz and No Direction Home out of the park, and it isn't like there's anything he can direct that I wouldn't see anyway. Also, A Bigger Bang is a pretty good album. Not Exile on Main Street good, but good.

    by gladiator monkey

For me, this is Scorsese's last chance to redeem himself. After recent years of mostly mediocre films, and the particularly regretful, artistic failure of the Departed, I'm more worried than ever that he has lost his talent for making great films. Documentaries aside, he's been very disappointing lately.

    by conniebrean1

It was pretty sweet. The Beacon's not really a great concert venue, though. Not for a rock show, anyway. But it was still an amazing event. Bill Clinton introduced them as part of his 60th birthday bash. And A Bigger Bang was a pretty great album. I don't get all the hate, except from people who claim that they haven't made a decent album since Exile. These people clearly haven't listened to either Exile or any of their other albums. Sure, it's a landmark album, but it's not the best thing they ever did. Where's the love for Let it Bleed, or Beggar's Banquet, or Some Girls? Hell, am I the only one who loves Voodoo Lounge?

    by nathan0774

Why all the hatred? Mick is cool... The Stones are cool... They always have been and they always will be. Everyone makes fun of them cause they are in their 60's and still touring. Paul McCartney is just as old and no one makes fun of him. Maybe cause he's not ann entire rock-n-roll band... I dunno... Butg everyone makes fun of the Stones unless they are some how co-erced or dragged to a show... then they become converted believers that Stones are the 8th Wonder of the World. The Stones are fantastic... I challenge anyone on here to watch any of their live DVD's on a nice big screen and surround sound system and try and tell me they wouldn't have loved to be there during that show.

Then surely if you've studied the great man, you'll know he was the editor on Woodstock,he's made a documentary about The Band (The Last Waltz) and a documentary about Dylan so it's not exactly a stretch to film the Rolling Stones now, is it? by kuryakin

was when Keith blows out the smoke.

Worst bit was when any 'guests' came on. Really, do they need to bring in Jack White et al for a Stones doc?

What would make the film interesting is if it was all about how the Stones had become this bloated monster, how they were bringing in guest stars and using different guitars for every track and just have lost direction... Unfortunately the trailer seems to indicate it's Marty schmoozing with his favourite band for 90 minutes.

A Rollong Stones version of "Some Kind of Monster" would be awesome

...chiming in. Christina has a great voice, but she can't sing for shit. Just like she has a great body, but who knows how she actually fucks? The Who live probally did shit all over the beatles, and the recorded media would seem to support that. But The Beatles wrote the best songs. The Stones made for a happy median. There was that live video, something something satanic roadshow or some crap. It was a Stones show, and they were great, but The Who did blow them away in it. Thats all. Unlike the Stones themselves. Looks can be decieving. They're playing better than ever. Christina can sing her ass off, even if you don't like her tunes (bet she can fuck her ass off as well). Her voice is nicely suited to some of their more soulful R&B and she gives you something to look at other than Mick's prunish, Don Knotts like visage. I'll check it out with an open mind.

And I don't care what you say about Aguilera, she's got pipes. And it's not like she's singing Genie in a Bottle in this. She's probably singing on Gimme Shelter or something (haven't watched the trailer yet). And I swear, making fun of the Stones for being old is older and more tired than the Stones will EVER be.
