For Immediate Release HBO RENEWS HIT COMEDY SERIES ENTOURAGE AND FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS FOR NEW SEASONS, TO DEBUT IN 2008 LOS ANGELES, Aug. 17, 2007 - HBO has renewed the hit comedy series ENTOURAGE for a fifth season and FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS for a second season, it was announced today by Carolyn Strauss, president, HBO Entertainment. Currently debuting new episodes back-to-back on Sunday night (10:00-11:00 p.m. ET/PT), both series conclude their current season Sept. 2, and will return with new episodes in 2008. "ENTOURAGE is a full-fledged cultural phenomenon, and FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS has quickly become a show to watch," said Strauss. "I'm delighted that we'll be bringing new seasons of these distinctive series to our subscribers." Created by Doug Ellin, ENTOURAGE will have debuted 54 episodes at the end of its fourth season. Drawing on the experiences of industry insiders, the hit show stars Adrian Grenier as Vince, who is enjoying life in the limelight as a hot young actor; Kevin Connolly as Eric, Vince's manager, who tries to help him make the right choices; Kevin Dillon as Vince's half-brother Drama, now relishing a taste of success from his new series, "Five Towns"; Jerry Ferrara as Turtle, the least savvy of the group; and Emmy(r) winner Jeremy Piven as Ari, Vince's aggressive, high-powered agent. ENTOURAGE continues to attract praise, with People calling the show "entertaining in the extreme," while TV Guide terms it "ridiculously entertaining." The Washington Post hails the show as "a seductive celebration," and the Chicago Tribune describes it as "crackling" and "whip-smart." Earlier this year, ENTOURAGE received seven Emmy(r) nominations, including Outstanding Comedy Series, two for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Kevin Dillon, Jeremy Piven), Outstanding Guest Actor in a Comedy Series (Martin Landau), and Outstanding Directing for a Comedy Series (Julian Farino). In 2006, the show won an Emmy(r) for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Comedy Series (Jeremy Piven). Season four credits: ENTOURAGE was created by Doug Ellin; executive producers, Mark Wahlberg, Doug Ellin, Stephen Levinson and Rob Weiss; co-executive producer, Denis Biggs; supervising producer, Brian Burns; producers, Wayne Carmona and Lori Jo Nemhauser. Starring the New Zealand music-comedy duo of Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, and co-created by James Bobin, Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie, FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS follows transplanted New Zealanders Jemaine and Bret, who live on New York City's Lower East Side and split their time between seeking venues where they can perform and awkwardly courting women. Sometimes finding it easier to express themselves with music, they're apt to break into song at a moment's notice. The 12-episode first season of FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS has sparked critical raves, with the New York Times calling the show "very funny" and "deliciously absurd." Rolling Stone hails the series as "hilarious," while the San Francisco Chronicle terms it "the funniest thing you've seen in ages," as well as "brilliant," and the Los Angeles Times notes that the show is "consistently funny." Jemaine Clement and Bret McKenzie first teamed up in 1998. Earning a worldwide cult following through their live performances, the duo was named Best Alternative Comedy Act at the 2005 U.S. Comedy Arts Festival and Best Newcomer at the Melbourne Comedy Festival, and was nominated for the Perrier Comedy Award at Edinburgh Fringe Festival. Flight of the Conchords released the live album "Folk the World" in 2002, and headlined a six-part BBC Radio 2 series, which won a Sony UK Comedy Award. They debuted on HBO in 2005 with their own "One-Night Stand." Flight of the Conchords' EP "The Distant Future" was released by Sub Pop Records on Aug. 7. The EP includes "Business Time," "If You're Into It" and "Not Crying," as well as live versions of "The Most Beautiful Girl in the Room" and "Robots." Sub Pop will release a full-length Conchords album in Jan. 2008. Season one credits: The executive producers of FLIGHT OF THE CONCHORDS are Stu Smiley, James Bobin and Troy Miller; co-executive producers, Jemaine Clement, Bret McKenzie and Tracey Baird; consulting producer, Paul Simms.

fiester, I agree with much of what you said. I miss the nights when the wife and I planned our evenings around Deadwood,Sopranos, and Six Feet Under. Big Love is alright, but has yet to meet those standards. Hopefully the Alan Ball vampire project will be good.

Now it's going to be lumped in with the 6 other new vampire shows though. <P> Ah well.

Loved that show too much within 3 minutes of the 1st episode, when The most beautiful girl in the room started. Since then I've searched out the BBC radio show and HBO Stand Up specials. Songs are funniest thing on TV right now and the rest of the show is the second funniest. "Rumours?" "Nah - it's all true" Best gag ever.

CQuest, Entourage is cool, no doubt about it. But it's not the best show on the network. If you haven't been watching Big Love then you need to start catching up. Plus, when Curb and The Wire return, then there's no argument. But I'm very happy for FOTC. I had doubts as to whether HBO would renew but thank God they did. That shit is hilarious. It makes a perfect companion piece to Extras.
Aug. 17, 2007, 4:24 p.m. CST
That show was brilliant! And in front of a live audience! Waaay better than FOTC, although it's pretty funny it doesn't deserve a 2nd season like LL did!

Flight of the Conchords has been hilarioius, Entourage is getting better with age, Curb Your Enthusiasm is the best comedy going, and there's still the Extras Special to look forward to. So HBO maintains its crown in 1/2 hour comedies. Unfortunately their 1 hour comedies have taken a hit lately. Big Love is still excellent, The Wire has another season, hopefully we'll see the Deadwood films, but the loss of the outstanding Rome and Deadwood (as a full time show anyway) is brutal to the network. The loss of the Sopranos has been painful ratings wise (but the quality of that show had not been good for some time before its finale). I just hope Alan Ball can hit another homerun with "True Blood". Hopefully "Tell Me You Love Me" will be worth watching as well (the concept sounds good but the previews make it look a little dreary). 12 Miles of Bad Road looks dumb and John From Cincinatti was a certified dud (although it was entertaining in a manner). Perhaps "Fire & Ice", "Preacher", or Milch's new "70's cop drama" can come to the rescue? I guess time will tell if HBO can regain its crown as undisputed king of television?

I live in L.A. and I know a-holes like these guys, I have to endure them all the time, why on Earth would I want to watch a show about them? I suppose it's made for the 99.9% of the country that doesn't live here, but man, I hate those kind of douche bags.

So, Conchords is the funniest thing on tv right now, but I am confused by one thing in the 'mother-uckers' song from a few weeks ago.<br><br>Are they singing, 'Too many mother-uckers ucking with my shi-,' or is it 'Too many mother-uckers ucking with my shit.' <br><br>Anybody? I'm pretty sure it's the former but not positive.

So, so crushed John From Cincinatti won't be back. Over the last ten weeks I've went from hating the show on principle (they cancelled Deadwood for this?!)to being completely obsessed with it's brilliance and deeper meaning. John and Shaunie's triumphant return from "Cincinnati" at the start of the last episode, surfing in from Space? Heaven? the Future? to the sounds of Bob Dylan, has my vote as one of the most electrfying moments of TV in recent memory. At a time when most shows demand nothing but time, JFC demanded your complete attention and then a period of serious theological study/meditation afterwards complete with online debate over meaning and nuance. Time for a complete season rewatch...

Due to Vinnies sport fucking he FINALLY tests positive for HIV. And various other STD's. <p> Drama bends Turtle over the sofa while watching curling on the flatscreen. Thus is love born. <p> Eric, Ari, and Billy kill each other in a massive circle jerk leap off a high parking ramp. <p> And the season ends with an all new Lesbian cast cause we never get to see chick on chick action.
Aug. 17, 2007, 6:29 p.m. CST
There's no way that Lucky Louie is funnier than Flight of the Conchords. LL was nothing more than a dirty version of a your basic three camera sitcom. No LL joke could possibly make me laugh harder than a song that asks if David Bowie uses his pointy nipples as telescopic antenae for transmiting data back to Earth.

Aug. 17, 2007, 7:21 p.m. CST
After that, then i'll debate on rather to ditch HBO or hold on, hoping that the execs decide to (maybe) extend The Wire for another season due to A lack of drama programs in their roster. I heard that one of the reasons why they gave The Wire another season was due to its DVD sales and the numbers that it generates on their ON DEMAND Subscription. Imho, that's more of an accurate gauge rating-wise than the Nielsen system.

But let's not forget Murray, eh? Murray, taking roll - Murray, slipping in a semi-nude photo of himself for their one fan (who gave it back), Murray, who yearns for the rock and roll life but manages FotC!

watch the Mighty Boosh. notice the similarities. MB is way funnier than FOTC. fucking biters. as for HBO canceling John From Cincinnati, i wouldn't be remiss as to call them cunts.
Aug. 17, 2007, 7:44 p.m. CST
OK, Entourage has its moments, almost all of them having to do with Ari and Drama, but a "cultural phenomenon?" Oh, please. <br><br> FoTFC, on the other hand, is indeed brilliant. <br><br>"It is the distant future. The year 2000. We are robots."
Aug. 17, 2007, 7:58 p.m. CST
Flight of the Conchords have been going for years before this HBO series so the notion that it rips the Boosh doesn't really hold water. In fact, weren't they both BBC radio series first as well? And as much as I like Boosh, it goes for the purposely surreal type of humour, opposed to smart deadpan laughs of FotC. I'd agree with MiraJeff above, closer to Gervais than the Boosh. And as for song sections, Boosh's are wacky, and you can giggle like an idiot to them when you are stoned, but FotC's are just really fucking smart parodies that are rare in being excellent in capturing the particular style of the genre being sent up, but also being exceptionally funny at the same time. Usually it's one or the other, it's rare to be both. I'd cite Shaun of the Dead and Hot Fuzz as being similarly successful in this. In fact, imagine Simon Pegg in an episode of FotC's directed by Edgar Wright. Jesus, that made me feel sexy.
Aug. 17, 2007, 8 p.m. CST
Thank god for The Wire.
Aug. 17, 2007, 8:09 p.m. CST
If FotC's is similar to any show, it's the old Tenacious D one. But then again that guy from Mr Show, Troy Miller was/is involved in both. Had the Bowie episode playing as I'd been writing. "Brad, you got it going on, that's the conclusion that I've come, but that doesn't mean that I want to bum you". How can you deny the genius of a show having song lyrics like that. And the song gets funnier after that as well!

I'm still depressed over the cancellation. Its harder to get over than the early demise of any show I've spent YEARS watching. I'm so jealous of Cochords fans. Great news for you. Murray's "Goodbye Leggy Blonde" is the best song of the season by far. If there's any show that will make me decide to keep HBO, it will be FOTC. I buy "The Wire" on DVD, and Entourage has been losing some of its steam since the second season ended. Although there's been a couple classic episodes in 3 (the Vally episode) & 4 (the one Eric and Walsh get into a fist fight).
Aug. 17, 2007, 10:36 p.m. CST
Love Conchords, have no idea what is even remotely appealing about Entourage.
Aug. 17, 2007, 11:20 p.m. CST
For all of you begging for the return of Deadwood: the show was only supposed to be on for four seasons. That was the plan. If they actually decided that they need a drama to fill out the schedule and were able to talk Milch into producing another season of Deadwood, that is all you would get, one more season. It's not going to happen because it wouldn't be worth it for HBO to spend the money on producing a single season of the show. It's time to move on.

Last season, you couldn't say a bad word about it on these talkbacks and now it's being put down in favor of an Australian version of "Clerks"? If everyone here hates Entourage they're in big trouble. After all, AICN posters are their target audience.

You'll blind everyone with your translucent boy-chest." One of the meanest insults I have ever heard. Its hilarious everyone is always ripping on E's size and the kid is consistantly mature and correct in his decisions. Great character. And Drama, "F**ed her in the ass and made her ride her bike home" line was classic. I cant get enough of this show. And FotC is a great call for HBO. Murray "They kick the ball, you...kick the jams, aye?!" IS quite possibly the most abstract bizzare hilarious creation yet.
Aug. 17, 2007, 11:45 p.m. CST
what great news. As i posted two days ago, the fools that watched John From Cinci can eat it. HBO knows how to renew quality. here are the best shows on HBO, period: The Wire, Entourage, Flight of the Conchords, Extras and Curb. Everything else is filler until those shows come on.

HBO renewed ENTOURAGE because they've got nothing original worth checking out right now (except Bill Maher and hopefully CURB if it bounces back from last year's storyline.) They can't cancel everything. What's funny about ENTOURAGE? Ari and Lloyd. Not worth sitting through the rest to get two minutes of laughs. Right now Showtime rules with Dexter.
Aug. 18, 2007, 8:08 p.m. CST
With Entourage and FoTC both ending in a couple weeks, and Big Love's season ending soon also and obviously no Sopranos or Deadwood etc., it seems like HBO will be pretty barren until the Spring or whenever these come back around again. I'm glad they renewed Big Love for a season 3. Its weird but I've really gotten into it like I have for very few other shows(the Sopranos etc), where I wait for it all week and obsess about the characters and read Big Love message boards.

This was announced quite awhile ago now, but no info on its progress? They seemed to be approaching it right and making every issue an episode, but maybe HBO gets cold feet yet again and starts a new trend of canceling great shows before they even air, just to avoid pissed-off fan blowback...

I bet they did, those freaky bastards. By the way, does that mean Extras will be back, too. If so, I may give up sex in the realization that nothing could make me feel better than having both Flight of the Conchords and Extras. Ah, who'm I kiddin'? Like I have sex.

its a throwback to a time when u could just be a GUY with no bullshit. fucking pretty girls cause you can. its some 1960s James Bond fantasy kick, and its unapologetic about it. thats why its so huge, it has its hand on the pulse of what people want to see, and thats just a crazy fantasy where everything turns out alright in the end. nothing too serious at all. people who "dont get" entourage dont really understand escapism. stop being so smart for a second and just enjoy the show. and mira while i agree that the wire WILL be the best show again once it comes back, entourage holds it down over big love for me.

That has to be the most telling and unintentionally hilarious critique I have ever read about anything ever. The upshot being -- if you're dumb, you'll love ENTOURAGE; otherwise, you'll have to make yourself stupid, (or pretend to be) in order to enjoy it. Bravo! Hahaha! America! FUCK YEAH!<br><br> Another funny thing is how similar the comment comes to a "date rape" scenario. "Stop being so uptight for a second and enjoy the bad, awkward, unwanted sex I'm forcing on you." Lemme guess, frat guy, right?
Aug. 19, 2007, 10:58 a.m. CST
Sort of like THE COLBERT SHOW does, especially neocon types who, for the first few months, didn't even know he was making fun of them! Anyways, with CONCHORDS, because its a parody/satire, people are unsure whether or not they are being made fun of (which they probably are), so it makes them nervous. You know those types of people on the cusp between being averagely intelligent and acutely idiotic? A show like CONCHORDS confounds them to no end because they're not sure what and how to take it.<br><br> ENTOURAGE, on the other hand, appeals to the ape. Its very simple, very dumb, and very basic sitcom type comedy w/out a shread of creativity or wit, and which reinforces to teenage boys and their frat-boy cousins that they too are destined to be famous 20 somethings running around Hollywood drinking mohitos and snorting massive amounts of cocaine. The truth being, of course, that, much more likely, college will be fun, and then after that it will be unemployment, or some meaningless, hellish job, marriage, kids, debt, and death. Hence, ENTOURAGE arrives as a popular cable tv show which presents young men a fantasy world they can both live vicariously though, pretend they're apart of, and will never, ever even come close to achieving. The eternally dangled carrot, just out of reach, of a dying consumer society. Depression is guarenteed.

CONCHORDS doesn't have a message either, its just very funny, witty, and creative. Theres social satire there, but I can't say theres one overwhelming theme except about how funny muscians are; especially of the "I'll do NYC for awhile before I realize its pointless" variety. If you could rephrase the quesiton in a manner where it followed from what I said before, I could, perhaps, provide you with a better answer.)

you are probably an emo hipster who has this thing about being "smart". you reek of it. obviously any one with half a brain can see what im gettin at. entourage is just 60s bond but about a movie star. this isnt a time when u need to be tryin to read deeply into shit like JFC or some of the 30 second shots of Carm lookin at a vase in paris in sopranos, this is just good clean goofy entertainment. its extremely witty, well written and doesnt take itself too seriously. its a smart comedy in the same way that conan is a smart comic. they know how to use the "fart gag" comedy to maximum effect because of their intelligence, not by lack of it.
Aug. 19, 2007, 5:08 p.m. CST
"smart" in that post meant "uppity". stop being so uppity that you cant enjoy a fun show. emo hipster smartypants praise JFC like its the second coming (pause) yet down Entourage just because its about a group of people they dont get. its so hilarious to me.

That the state of fantasy in this country has been reduced to ENTOURAGE. I mean, I am sure there are the people out there who place themselves in the shoes of the successful young actor, but how many more imagine themselves to be one of his ENTOURAGE. It has come to this, people fantasizing about being sycophantic nobodies riding the coat tails of their successful friend.<br><br>I usually am not fond of escapist drama about rich people anyway, but at least when people watched Dynasty, they imagined themselves rich and powerful. Not the lackies of someone rich and powerful.

But what an enjoyable reduction you just made of me based on media-created subculture stereoypes! Bravo! Also, on the smartpants thing, at the expense of appearing immodest, allow me to retort -- guilty as charged.<br><br> Btw, I still haven't quite gotten my finger on what a hipster is. What is a hipster? someone who dresses ironically? Likes the indie-buzz band of the week? Well, I do neither, so, I guess you'll have to think of a wholly new way to categorize me, or anyone else for that matter, who can't quite get simian enough to suffer through another episode of Four Kings Have Sex In The City While Queer Eyes Enjoy Straight Guys aka Entourage.

I love that show! And I don't have HBO....

Although it would be nice. But at least give us the motherfuckingcocksucking movies to give the series some closure. That and cunt at half price would be good.

But I hear there are two new series in the works called "bootlick" and "lickspittle".
Aug. 19, 2007, 11:49 p.m. CST
Wow, they give Tenacious D #2 (and these fucks are not even CLOSE to Jack Black and Kyle Gass) an extra season, but nix Cincinnati and Deadwood. I'll say this slow in case HBO is reading...F-U-C-K-I-N-G RETARDED! Get your head out of your asses HBO.

I don't get the attraction to the whole Flight of the Conchords thing, and I'm pretty astonished that it's as beloved as it is. It's like if the Johns from They Might Be Giants were given a camera at age fifteen and told to make a TV show.
Aug. 20, 2007, 9:17 a.m. CST
Not like Bob Odenkirk or David Cross need any more TV time, but that is the best show HBO has ever put on the air...and 10 years later is still funnier/edgier/and relevant than anything the networks or HBO for that matter have put out since (although with Troy Miller on board Conchords is doing what it can to compete)
Aug. 20, 2007, 9:42 a.m. CST
In other words, CONCHORDS is not only a brilliant social sature of loser/slacker musicians, but also manages to showcase brilliantly composed and performed parody/satire music. in other words, even though the songs are meant to be funny, they're actually really good songs as well. Again, if you're a little dim, you won't get it, it will confuse you, you won't know what to think. Too bad for you. Perhaps another episode of Four Kings Have Sex In The City While Queer Eyes Stare At Straight Guys (aka Entourage) will get you straight. <br><br>Also, CONCHORDS destroys TENACIOUS D. For one, CONCHORDS riff on music from all over the spectrum -- from glam to disco to electro to folk to rock to dance hall dub and beyond. All TENACIOUS D did was riff on metal and metal antics. Which was funny, but rather one-note. If CONCHORDS are 15 year olds, they're the really cool, smart, funny, geeky 15 year olds on the fringes of the local educational institution. TENACIOUS D, on the other hand, are the 7 year olds whose older brothers like DIO waaaay too much.<br><br> Finally, what is it, exactly, about watching a bunch of wealthy celebrity hangers-on hang out and fart? Is that what culture has been reduced too? Skynet, please release the nukes, this world is finished.

A professionally shot and updated "hooray for America" special might be cool, especially along side those classroom lecture specials by whats his face.

But Turtle and Drama are getting old. All Turtle does is mooch, smoke pot and try to buy stupid f'ing gym shoes. All Drama does is mooch, try to nail chicks he'll never get and try to beg his way into his brother's next movie.

I *get* Conchords. I just don't think it's the 'brilliant social sature' that you do. A friend who has been hyping the fuck out of these guys for ages showed me a few episodes, and when I finally saw what he's been raving about all this time, I was extremely underwhelmed. It's a one-note show, and the weirdness of it is so forced and artificial that I couldn't care less about the characters, especially the fucker with the glasses, and the incompetent manager, who may as well be Stephen Merchant's manager character from EXTRAS. And the songs are okay for "joke" songs, but these guys are NOT the second coming of Zappa. If these guys were genuine musical geniuses, they wouldn't have to be fucking comedians.

How would that look? A fan goes down the list of fans and says "Hey, that guy's in the band, he fancies himself" - not cool. PRICELESS.

But last Sunday's episode was good and bad at the same time. I like the character of Eric. He makes the most sense. I like how he had to deal with Ana Farris' douchebag boy friend. But the whole Vince wanting to do that bullshit sounding movie that Billy wrote was bad. It proved why I don't like the Vince character. He's whiney, annoying, and has a real bad sense of entitlement that someone who grew up poor in Queens shouldn't have. Anyone with sense would have read the script that Billy wrote and been pissed that what they paid a half a mil for wasn't on paper. Vince is an unlikeable and unrealistic character. And Billy is retarded and would have never been working in Hollywood for real with the way he acts. It's a shame to bring in any sort of comparisons to Sex and the City, but at least Carrie Bradshaw (foot face and all) anchored the show properly. On Entourage, almost ALL of the supporting players steal the spotlight from Vince.
Aug. 20, 2007, 3:49 p.m. CST
maybe u dont get it, but this has obviously been E's show from the start. he is the main character. Vince is just the side show that all the stories are bounced off of. Its more recently become the E and Ari show tho. Vince comes off as an actor should : "hey, i can have whatever i want, and why shouldnt i get it?" he is easy going and aloof. its not about stealing the spotlight from vince, he isnt IN the spotlight as far as the show in real life goes. Like in cheers, he would be THE BAR itself. the show just rotates around him, nothing more.

I gotta know...You don't really mean that Entourage is, indeed, the "Best.Show.Ever." Do you? I can accept that you like it, that it's even the best show you've ever seen. But the best show ever? EVER?<br><br>Please tell me this is just hyperbole*.<br><br>And not your genuine feeling that in all the years of Television, that these douche bags mooching off their friend is the BEST that we've been able to produce.<br><br>*http://m-w.com/dictionary/hyperbole

Although I will probably watch the Wire via internet. That show was great.
Aug. 21, 2007, 5:24 a.m. CST
In terms of a character driven television show I would regard it as my favortite, thus in my humble opinion yeah I guess I would. Love the scripts, love the performances and think it's the best non plot driven show on TV in a long time. Sure, I loved Six Feet Under, The X Files and numerous other shows that have since come and gone, but right now I don't recall thinking anything was better in terms of out and out consistency. Again, this is my opinion, obviously, so take it as you will.
Aug. 21, 2007, 5:37 a.m. CST
I hate negative shit is post backs. Why would you comment on a show you obviously feel indifferent towards!? Seems like a waste of energy to me, never understood it and never will. I know a lot of folk who love this show, whatever you think of it.
Aug. 21, 2007, 5:43 a.m. CST
I was actually just wondering if by best show ever you meant it was the best show ever for you. Or period, hands down, best show. Ever.
Aug. 21, 2007, 5:50 a.m. CST
I thought the point of talkbacks was some sort of open forum community discussion, perhaps I am wrong. I think Entourage sucks balls (see, no indifference there) but when you proclaimed it the "Best. Show. Ever." Well, sir, what can I say? It inspired me to 'talkback' and that's just what I did.

funniest band manager ever. Gotta say never really got into Entouragr except whemn Ari and Lloyd were on screen. I think they should can the series and make spin off about Ari's Agenting misadventurtes. Piven's classic. Lucky Louise never did much for me either too much like stuff I'd seen on network with a few more cuss words. Now Curb, that's the shit there. Larry David is America's one true genius of situation comedy. He's like the Eugene O'Nweal of sitcomms.
