Did You Like LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN?? Have You Heard About PUSH?? It Could Be Cool...

Published at:  Aug 17, 2007 9:36:09 AM CDT

Merrick again...

Superbland Chris Evans, supercool Djimon Hounsou, supercreepy Dakota Fanning, and superhot Camilla Belle will star in PUSH, a new film from Paul McGuigan (LUCKY NUMBER SLEVIN and WICKER PARK).

PUSH...

revolves around a group of young American ex-pats with telekinetic and clairvoyant abilities who hide from a U.S. government agency in Hong Kong. They must band together and use their different talents to try to escape the control of the division.

..says THIS ARTICLE in Hollywood Reporter.

Sounds like one of those "under the radar" titles that could be very intriguing if handled properly. Hong Kong is a great setting, and the concept evokes many cool SF/psy thrillers from the past.

We'll keep an eye on this one. If you know more, tell us!

    it's like the "Brady Bunch"

    by guy gaduois

meets 'Firestarter'. In Hong Kong. Without the Dad-in-the-closet Brady Bunch angle. Or six kids - it's just a couple. Or one. So let's call it a re-imagining of 'Firestarter', but without fire.
Or this is something else completely. Who brought up 'Firestarter' in the first place? Jerk.

The worst thing about Slevin was..

    by felix the taster

.. the title. Apart from that it wasn't too bad. I saw in a packed cinema in London and I've never been part of such a responsive, happy audience. It was no masterpiece but it did the job. Oh, and the other thing that stank about is was Ben Kingsley insisting on being credited as Sir Ben Kingsley. Jerk.

    Chris Evans....

    by bgart13

is at least nice to look at, and at least tries the occasional different type of role (ie - Sunshine). And has shown some signs of capable acting (FF needs to be ignored regarding his abilities).

And yes, I'm a guy...let the trashing begin, but don't start with anti-queer talk.

    The Wrong Man

    by red_weed

In Australia this film was called The Wrong Man, not Lucky Number Sleven. Is that an improvment? Perhaps. Either way, I enjoyed the movie.

And I like Chris Evans too. Sunshine was great and he was the only watchable thing in that ff4 movie. Djimon Hounsou I don't care for as much.

Superbland Chris Evans, Supercool Djimon Hounsou???

    by series7

So since when is playing the same character over and over SUPERCOOL? The only coolness Djimon has was in Constantine and probably Biker BOYZ! Because any movie that has the balls to replace an S with a Z HAS TO BE supercool. And yeah Chris Evans may play the same cocky guy in every movie at least he is usually the best part about the movie. Except Sunshine where everything was the best part about that movie. Also Camilla Belle will be famous once 10,000 B.C. comes out, but probably in a Raquel Welch One Million Years B.C. way.

    by wldmk

...as did all those I watched with in the cinema, my usually overcritical friends and even the usually clueless critics here (overseas for over 2 years now) - It wasn't perfect, but was genuinely worth watching and enjoyable...
This sounds interesting enough and will probably still be better in the end than a good chunk of movies, mostly bad ones, that I end up watching, so this has my attention...

BEFORE I BEGIN, I'D LIKE TO SPEND A FEW PARAGRAPHS GIVING YOU CONTEXT FOR MY REVIEW. THE PREVIEW FOR THIS MOVIE WAS CRIMINALLY UNDER-SHOWN IN THEATERS. ONLY "CHUCK AND LARRY" CAN COMPETE IN RECENT MEMORY FOR A TRAILER THAT WAS SHOWN TOO RARELY. SECONDLY...

time as smoking aces. They crossed each other out in terms of the public indifference. They were structurally the same kind of movie. mult-chracter, multi-arc story telling. one guy falls foul of someone goes on the run then he discoveres that the fbi are after him but they are not the fbi and then fbi turn up he gets into the witness protection program and has to bring someone down. Bollicks!

    PUSH

    by the real mirajeff

Push was actually one of the first scripts I ever did coverage on when I interned in LA two summers ago. I actually thought it was pretty good. It's a little like a darker X-Men but with telekinetic powers. It's less action movie, more dark thriller. I remember the opening with a SWAT team was pretty awesome. And the cast they got is great although I'm not sold on Camilla Belle. Maybe I'll post a script review...
