Some Pics of Wes Craven's 50 VIOLINS!

Published at:  Apr 05, 1999 2:58:09 AM CDT

The director of NIGHTMARE ON ELM STREET, SCREAM, THE PEOPLE UNDER THE STAIRS and THE HILLS HAVE EYES brings you a new look at this 'extraordinary true story for anyone who's ever been told their dreams are out of reach.' Starring Meryl Streep, Gloria Estefan, Angela Bassett, Itzhak Perlman, Aidan Quinn, Cloris Leachman, Kieran Culkin and many others!

WHAT!?!?!? Well, you see, here's what I love about this. I love it when some genre filmmaker steps out and makes other genre films. I mean, look at Robert Wise... director of CURSE OF THE CAT PEOPLE, THE DAY THE EARTH STOOD STILL, THE HAUNTING and STAR TREK THE MOTION PICTURE... who also directed a few films like... ohhhhh SOUND OF MUSIC, WEST SIDE STORY, etc... I love it when a filmmaker can get a chance to show he isn't just one thing. It's hard to break the mold that Hollywood can put you in, and I really hope this movie is incredible. The only test screening result I saw wasn't too great... but then that was just ONE person's opinion... Let's see how it turns out... eh?

    One things for sure

    by martin q blank

If this film is going to be successful it will be based solely on it's quality. I mean, what can they use to advertise it? Meryl Streeps a bit past her time, and there's no way they'd even mention Craven's past in the ads. (Maybe they'll try and fob it off and say 'From accomplished director...')

    Not April Fools

    by bill mulder

Sorry, buddy it's not an April Fool's Day joke. Craven wants to branch out into other genres (which I can understand) but we can take solace in that after this he is starting Scream 3.

    by henrik

Sorry, Myers. (Spelling error.) Anyway, I quite like Ms. Streep but I'm pretty sure you won't be going to Hell just because we disagree on that.

    Meryl Streep

    by oscar man

Streep is the best actor in the history of motion pictures, male or female. Bar none. She is a true chameleon who changes souls with each role she plays. Her performance in "Sophie's Choice" is one I will never forget, and there are so many others. Don't forget that she has 11 Oscar nominations, tied with Jack Nicholson and only 1 behind Katharine Hepburn. Apparently, I'm not the ONLY one who thinks she's good.

    I'm tired...

    by mikewilliamson

I don't know about the rest of you guys, but personally I'm sick and tired of the "White person goes to the ghetto and teaches the underprivaleged kids how to live and love again" genre. I sure wish Craven would have picked a more original theme for his first straight drama. This played out plot coupled with Craven's undeniable love for corny, feel-good melodrama (The end of "People Under the Stairs"...A painful ending to a cool movie)spells big trouble for me.

    Agh! Mommy!

    by tall_boy

that 1st pic of Streep scared the bejesus outta me! I can just picture it out: STREEP: Hello class now pick up your 50 violins. KID: ARGH! ITS COVERED IN HUMAN BLOOD!!!! STREEP: BWA-HA-HA-HA-HAA!!!! **For no apparent reason, Ghostface and Freddy Kruger duke it out using the students heads as baseballs** Now THAT would be a Wes Carpenter flick I'd pay to see!

    Meryl Streep

    by spacey

Meryl Streep might be a great actress, but SHE MAKES ME SICK TO MY STOMACH!!!!! God, she is so annoying and gross; I would rather watch Batman and Robin. The only piece of garbage worse than her is Goldie Hawn, dear lord RETIRE. . NOBODY WANTS TO LOOK AT YOU!

    Wes is better than most.

    by grocer

Wes is a solid storyteller, (an increasing rareity among directors), who has more than earned his right to try something outside the genre. So let him make his damn violin movie and get it out of system. P.S... Anybody who thinks Streep can't act doesn't know what acting is.

gloria estefan in a movie??? YESSSSS

    by cinematt

Hey, any film that stars Gloria Estefan is fine for me! Unlike so many of these so called "divas"(translated as untalented spoiled bitches like Mariah Carey, Witless Houston, lousy Lauren Hill,Cher the plastic hore, and the almighty queen of sluts, Madonna(along with her fatassed pal Rosie O'donell and Madonna's misbegotten bitch LardAss)Gloria Estefan is a true class act in every sense of the word! It's about time Hollywood figured that out! Gloria Estefan rules, you pathetic primates, and if you aint down with that, I got two words for ya...

    SUCK IT!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    The Almighty Meryl Streep

    by meryl fan

I just do not understand how anyone can say anything bad about Meryl. She is a fabulous actress.
AN ACTRESS!!! Do people know what that word means? She is a two time Academy Award winner for movies that were not really advertised. What I mean is, the promoting of movies then was not like it is now. She won for her talent and not from publicity.
She hates promoting herself. I love it that she thinks her best accomplishments are her children and not a movie she has made. GO MERYL!!! She has my utmost repect as a actress and a mother. I think she is a terrific role model for any generation. If you want to see the actress she really is, just watch all of her movies as I have.
Watching her, you are watching the person she is portraying. It takes a certain look or a tone in her voice that is all her own to make you realize that you watching Meryl. THAT IS PURE TALENT!!!!! 11 Oscar nominations for 26 movies should say it all.

    Meryl and Wes

    by academywin

For all of you judging the way Wes Craven makes a film and chooses a subject matter remember that George Lucas, the so called "God" of motion pictures branched out oddly on his own with "American Graffitti." This was a complete departure from his main success. And for you jealous people calling Ms. Streep past her time, and old let's find better things to do with our time than post internet comments degrading her ok. She is and always will remain the best. oh and goldie Hawn to for that matter. I know First Wives Club didn't succeed on Bette and Diane alone.

    Meryl the great

    by brendastreep

Everything Meryl Streep has ever done has been solid gold!!! And Wes Craven....Well this film is very close to his heart, so that fact alone should tell you it will be special. And he chose the greatest actress in the world to star in it. This film has no choice but to be fantastic. I am sitting on the edge of my seat waiting for it.

    TRUTH

    by mk

Watch "Small Wonders" (see the DVD version of "Music of the Heart"), the documentary upon which the film was based.

To me, telling a story on film about characters worth remembering; portrayed by actors truthfully embodying the roles; and ultimately making a difference in real life is what good moviemaking is all about.

Roberta's program was reinstated during the making of the film, thanks to the efforts of Meryl and the filmmakers. And Meryl was nominated for her 12th Academy Award for her portrayal of Roberta. I think that says it all.
