Holy Schnitzel!! DARK KNIGHT Images Flood The Internets!! Right Click/Save Picture As...Oops!! Too Late!!
Merrick here...
Okay.
So we're getting deluged with e-mails about DARK KNIGHT images that are appearing in multiple locations all over the Internet.
The pictures are presented herein, courtesy of TheIronGiant.
Given the volume of e-mails we're receiving, and the differing origins being cited, it's difficult to know where these are coming from. If anyone knows exactly where these pictures initially sprouted up, please give credit where credit is due in the Talkback below.
I'm told these are screen caps from footage recently shown at Wizard World. Don't know if this is true - I haven't seen said footage.
And now...
Behold glorious Nolan Batosity!!

and great photos!
-
Bitches come! This movie is going to rock my lame ass.
-
Third?
-
Whats up with the Gimpy getup
-
T-minus 17 minutes until cease and desist, I'd say...
-
...even with many feux-Bats running around.
-
pretty friggin' cool this is going to kick ass
-
So says Genghis Von Doom.
-
had my $10 the day it was announced. The Joker looks great.
-
I'm going to miss the tumbler. And I'm looking forward to the seeing the montage of Bruce assembling his new gear.
-
That's a lot of images. I bet they won't last long...LOL Gonna be a great movie!
-
I'm looking forward to this.
-
...guns on the batcycle, or whatever they're calling it. Otherwise - all looks very cool. The team earned my trust with the last one. Next summer is shaping up to be a decent one superhero-wise. This and Iron Man look promising - Hulk could go either way.
-
I just got so damn excited. Maybe they'll tighten up the plot holes this time around. ooh.
-
And FUCKINAWESOME!!!
-
looks like shit. I can't wait to see the movie, but that Joker reminds me of how bad The Penguin looked in the Original Second movie.
-
Like the Joker look a lot.
-
then take them down in a half hour. Prentend you're breaking some rules or something, and promote the shit out of our movie. We'll send over the hooker with the big strap on dildo later.
-
this does not look good, the new costume looks weak
-
i still cant wait to see this movie
-
Interesting take on the Joker. Like what they've done with the Bat headquarters under Wayne Manor. Feeling very hopeful that Nolan will again hit this one out of the park.
-
... like it was motherfuckin' prom night!!! I'm not big on the look for the Batcave though... far to bright for a character who is so psychologically dark, you know? And I'm not sold on the new batsuit. The helmet/cowl is actually cool, but you know what it looks like? Football pads. Now I know most of y'all have never strapped on a set of pads, but that's what they look like. Kind of a let down. But everything else look fucking awesome. And HOTDOGVNDR, you suck dick for a living, because LedgerJoker kicks fucking ASS!!!
-
Other than that, the photos look great! This is for the people that didn't attend Wizard World!
-
still worried about him acting like burtons joker
-
The Dark Knight is about as cool as anything can get. Bale. Joker. Dent. The wait is going to be hard.
-
thanks
-
a fucking year away is torture
-
I am soooo excited about this next installment
-
looks like it came out of a Japanese super hero movie. Is that good? Bad?
-
Very nice. Batman looks like Robocop. Funny to see a bunch of Batmen just chillin.
-
Looks like Cillian Murphy. 8th picture down, next to fatman Batman.
-
OMFG you guys actually think that joker looks good? Are u fucking serious...looks fucking awful!
-
granted this movie had my $$$ before I saw anything, but wow...I like the combonation of realistic joker with the makeup and over the top comic bok/Adam Westesque Joker with the suit and heath looks better then I thought he would
-
very washed out look, have to say I prefer the Begins costume now, very spare Euro look to the whole thing, all the white concrete, Bale looks too skinny, joker looks to be interesting, not how I picture Batman but let's see what the English have cooked up this time
-
But I will see this out of curiosity. This will truly make or break him in my eyes.
-
and carefully chosen to be anything BUT deliberate. But who cares?
-
Not trying to be a hater, just saying. When you've got a villain as bizarre as the joker, it would behoove Batman to look less cartoony. <p> Christian Bale in a dress suit always looks like BATEMAN. Fuck, I have like five other nitpicks, but whatever, I'm sure this movie will be cool.
-

-
sweet pics, i saw them a few hours ago, and was blown away.
-
No longer there? Link no worky.
-
Bat Suit looks a bit rubbery, Heath looks a little....I don't know what to think; needs a little more of the evil grin.
-
I don't see it. Sorry. Eccleston my friends Eccleston
-
That is all...
-
sorry, ledger just doesn't have the facial structure at all. anybody could put on white makeup, sloppy red lipstick, and dye their hair purple and look as much like the Joker as he does. and the Batsuit is off. it looks too... segmented i guess is the word i'm looking for. head & neck shape are all wrong & the cape doesn't have enough body to it. just aesthetic criticisms. i'm sure the movie as a whole will be good, but i'm not liking the visual choices they've made.
-
there's two breaks in the link. i just tried it, it works, but there's no additional pics. GQtaste is on crack.
-
Just to be the voice of reason on a few things: 1) The Batsuit. These are brightly lit. Batman is mostly seen in the dark. The exageration of definition on the suit is probably simply so he can be better seen in the dark shots, which will be most of the film. 2) Joker's look. I like it. It looks "real", as in the makeup is not symmetrical like he's in a play, but chaotic, as if he's genuinely f---ed up, either physically or in the head (preferably both). The Joker should not have a "clown" look, but rather, a demented, evil clown, like kids probably see in clowns when adults do not. 3) The "new Batcave" may not even BE the Batcave at all. It could just be part of Wayne Enterprizes where Bruce goes to get new gear. Remember Morgan Freeman's workshop in the first film? Well, now he's the boss, so he has a better facility. 4) Leaked shots. Obviously. Probably something the Joker is up to. That'd be cool!
-
This ones gonna be a wild ride, folks.
-
i am so sold on this. not that i wouldn't have been.
-
So at sometime his old suit gets fucked up.
-
sucks, bright or dark, too much armor, the nose is too big, the shape of the ears sucks, the begins costume even though its awkward gives him a bit more bulk and makes him more intimidating, even though the ears and neck suck on that too
-
sucks, bright or dark, too much armor, the nose is too big, the shape of the ears sucks, the begins costume even though its awkward gives him a bit more bulk and makes him more intimidating, even though the ears and neck suck on that too
-
to whoever said that, absolutely spot on, great call! That is indeed what the batsuit looks like, a very Japanese film look. <p> And, the interiors and the overall palate look very Euro, now that that is pointed out, I agree! My doubts about the segmented, articulated suit aside, I really like the brighter look... why not? Dark has been done to death.
-
but nolan fucked up on the suit.... the suit is everything that batman is...
-
there's almost nothing nolan could have done to the character that i wouldn't have eventually come around to. i've been on board with heath from day one, and my enthusiasm has only grown since, but like i said, unless he was some crazy gambling alien from the planet "joker" who arrived on earth on a flying playing card and the first thing he saw is the bat signal and thought "i'ma kill this bat-man", i probably would've ended up digging it.
-
Kinda skinny compared with the last film Looks pretty fucking cool though!!!
-
it's all in the performance, that will be key, but I like the insane klown painted look.
-
The first website to post them was Judão.com They found it and post it around 20:30 Brazilia time, which was about 3 hours ago. Some dude copy that and post it on SHH forum. Give THEM the credit for it. They sure deserve it. http://www.judao.com.br/cinema/noticia/exclusivo-veja-novas-imagens-de-the-dark-knight/#comment-44900
-
just to give credit.
-
I'm really looking forward to this movie even more now, and I didn't think that was possible. I love the Joker look.
-
See him sitting on the ground next to one of the imposter batman on the left.
-
... the plot rumors from earlier are true (multiple fake Batdudes). I'm not judging 'til I see the film itself. Can't say I'm not excited though :)
-
Looks good. I hope it's as good or better than the first one.
-
the horror... the horror...
-
or wait i forgot it's Batman's magic cape. Its 20 feet across when he's flying yet barely scrapes the ground he's walking. Then when he gets on the bike I guess he tucks it into his huggies.
-
It DIDN'T CAME FROM THE SHH FORUMS. I REPEAT. IT DIDN'T CAME FROM THE SHH FORUMS. Check the first guy that post the pics. He's from Brazil. If someone prove me wrong, that we'll be fine. THE PICS CAME FROM www. judao.com.br
-
mainly because he's not a SUPER hero. He's just like everyone else only with a lot of money and cool toys. But damn if the last flick didn't get me into this character. A history that actually makes sense and is somewhat realistic. These pics look pretty frigging cool too. I really hope Nolan keeps the feel from the first flick. Can't wait to see this in the theater!
-
Production skills. Genius.
-
...and Heath Ledger is going to be incredible. He looks sadistic and demented. And the movie as a whole looks TEN TIMES darker than Begins. Don't know how that will bode with the box-office, but it looked sweet to me.
-
Is it just me, or does his cape looks dangerously close to the rear tire? Remember what Edna Mode said in The Incredibles.
-
just scroll down to see the pics
-
I gotta agree that these shots don't look close to dark enough. I know they're trying to recreate the Batman World but they're axing out some great ideas. Seeing Bats in all that padding makes him seem like more of a pussy. I wanted to see him in less this time around. -Like he got better at what he does. Bourne and Bond don't need any fuckin armour. -Look how deadly they are. And what's with Joker's skin? Didn't the story go that his skin was bleached? I always loved that!
-
Like The Batman Begins images that were released before the movie, I don't like them, but I loved the movie. Hopefully, this will happen again.
-
Thats pretty lame...Also- The Bruce Wayne shots look like Patrick Bateman leftover publicity photos!
-
Perhaps Joker is trying to frame him.
-
The bat pics look great. The suit really doesnt bother me that much. As long as he looks cool fighting as such then I'm ok. Same thing with The Joker. I'm not sold 100% on the pics but I really need to see Ledger in action to really see if I will like this Joker. I'm looking at the close up pic of him and listening to the voice in the teaser. Its starting to come together, but I need to see him moving to really tell. Regardless, theyre going to have my $12 bucks for an IMAX ticket and another 20 something bucks for the dvd.
-
No more to say - it's gonna rock.
-
That shot of Batman against the cityscape is FANTASTIC.<P>Gary Oldman said at WizardWorld that the work Ledger does in this film is incredible. If my man Oldman is blown away by Heath's performance, that's ALL I NEED TO KNOW.<P>Much like BATMAN BEGINS, I can't wait to see how the characters, the story, and the gadgets evolve over the course of the film. I'm really looking forward to this. And if Nolan and Co. are keeping it smart, it should be great.<P>RIP Tumbler...
-
thats its true.. shh has just copied .. www.judao.com.br has posted first...
-
I've got to get me a pair of those socks!
-
Throw some Americans in the movie. Maggie dont count, she's a girl.

Okay already, Brazil gets a free Batman action figure
by BringingSexyBack
There's your credit. It's made in China with lead paint though, so don't fucking chew on it.
-
AWESOME!!! Haters can suck it, this looks effing TITS!!!
-
=crappy suit.
-
Bale's an amazing guy. No, it doesn't look like he's as big as last time, but this was filmed right after he did Rescue Dawn. He was scrawny for that. He said he only lost 60 lbs in that movie (still insane), but not as much as he did for The Machinist (after which he put on crazy beef for BB). The man really gets into his roles.
-
Sup mah brutha?
-
bats is getting kicked in the left hip. Look at his foot, it's obviously his left; he's got his back to the camera somewhat. Also, merrick sucks and must be fired (I can predict he posted something solely by how annoyed I am at the title. I'm definitely batting 0.7--0.8)
-
cara.. eu enviei o email pro judao , as 7:20 , eram 3:20 nos eua.. nao sei quem mais tinhas essas fotos , mas com certeza o judao foi o primeiro a publicar elas.. i am sure that judao has showed first.. because i have sended the email at 03:20 to judao with the photos...
-
He really looks like Nicholson's Joker in that shot where the makeup is fucked up. I like that it's makeup, it makes him more wrong in the head instead of going insane BECAUSE of his white skin. And they couldn't have explained away the perma-white skin look, no way. We've already seen him fall into the acid so there's no need to retread all that. PLUS, Dent gets the acid in his face, so having The Joker with makeup face makes him different to Two-Face.
-
looks like an office building made entirely of concrete. Where's the, you know, CAVE aspects? Why the super-bright drop ceiling?
-
the pics rock, but I'm a little concerned about the suit, but I'm confident Nolan knows what he's doing. And Fish Tank I thought he lost 60 lbs for Machinist, or was it more?
-
that's a damned good find. <P> Joker looks better every time I see more.
-
Joker doesn't wear makeup. His face was turned white by the chemicals he jumped into. COMIC BOOK IS CANON!!! <p> I'm just sayin'...
-
These are very early leaks. With the movie a little less than a year away, these is still plenty of time for color correction and all those sorts of tweaks. I remember before Batman Begins came out I hated those pics of the tumbler but after the movie, I feel in love with it.
-
100, then dropped 40 then gained 200 then dropped 400. Guy's fucking insane.
-
joker look really awesome and fucking insane, not crazy about the new suit in the squating pic, only cause it looks like its bunching and the joints...but could just be the shot
-
Can't be easy when Batman got the runs.
-
It looks like the same factory/hanger where Bruce tested out the tumbler in Batman Begins. Fox will make him the new suit.
-
It looks like Bale didn't bother too much this time with the weight-lifting. I would have thought that he'd be in even better shape this time since he didn't have the crazy adjustment like he did last time from the "Machinist". That's sort of disappointing. The suit is still too busy, but at least he can turn his head now. Otherwise it looks great.
-
Ok I take it all back… This looks way worse than I thought it would. Are you guys really going to roll over and accept THAT as the Joker!? No wonder why Hollywood keeps regurgitating shit. Batman’s head looks enormous and his suit it too Robocopish. I mean, where the hell is The Batman in all that armor crap? I said it before and I’ll say it again this looks like one giant toy commercial. Don’t even get me started on the Joker. The whole direction they’re taking this is retarded with sugar on top.
-
this guy gets an oscar someday. believe it. as far as these pics go, i am having mixed feelings. i still think Joker should have been played by Crispin Glover.
-
I disagree.
-
Don't soil your panties over some leaked pics. This movie will rock your loins even more than Brokeback Mountain.
-
...some fanboy with Photoshop and a few extra minutes between classes probably threw these together and uploaded them. I'm not convinced.
-
Is it just me or does Batman look way less believable now that he's not ripped. Just sayin... And these pics do look a little too Schumaker for it's own good. Man I hope they don't eff this up!!! Maybe Aronofsky should have been the one to helm this series...
-
Howz it goin' homepiece? So this BATMAN here looks pretty kewl, no? I'm diggin' it.
-
Just lovin these Bat pics and posting Indiana Jones titles. Basically it's been a "Waste A Day On AICN" kinda day.
-
The pics of Joker in the vest -- the last closeup and the interrogation room shots -- look like he's just wearing clown makeup. The other caps in the purple suit look like he's had some facial scarring and the white coloring on his face is more uniform. I guess he starts out as a run-of-the-mill gimmicky criminal and turns into something worse later in the film
-
Remember this is supposed to be soon after Batamn Begins. No time to rebuild the batcave yet. He's probably based out of his penthouse or Wayne Enterprises. And the joker makeup... if they are hugging reality it is the best way to go. It makes the scar all the more wicked and plays to his insane mind
-
They're photographs from someone's camera...
-
cuz 83 Brazilians just said so.
-
These are definitly screen caps. Perfect symmetry and lighting and no production background. Remember though, they have not gone through post production so by the time the movie comes out they could be darker, lighter, moodier, creepier.
-
I love Nolan's take on Batman, its real, its gritty, and unlike most superhero movies his vision feels like the world he created is actually possible. And I love his darker more sinister take on the Joker, this is how I imagine the Joker being.
-
sue me...
-
Or two face?
-
However the suit looks too robotic, I know its more practical, but it makes him look like a cyborg or something.
-
They aren't... You can see the DP holding his light meter or whatever it is in the top right corner of the picture with Bale and Caine with the suit behind them.
-
The images come from the SuperHeroHype boards from a member who did not want to be revealed. Get all 19 original images from here: http://fyad.org/ozmn
-
I think you guys are missing something very important. Bale is wearing two different suits. He wears the one from the last movie when he is climbing the wall and standing next to the guy with the ak47 and then later on when he is on the chicago rooftop and gordon's back porch it shows the sleeker cowl and costume. So what is up with that? Why the change of duds?
-
Touche! Put I only speak the truth.

Maybe Roger is secretly directing this film. In secret!
-
Garbage!
-
He's a great director. He should be making movies with meaning, not ridiculous S&M wankfests like this dreck.
-
Thanks for the clarification... I stand corrected ... Thanks Brazil for the hot batman images and for that matter hot young female ass through the years. My penis thanks yo good sirs
-
Have these people seen what the Joker looks like? Don't gimmie that reimaging crap either! I'm sick of reimaging, just do the character justice!
-
I love it!!!!
-
Really? Thats doing the character justice? Did you see Batman Forever?
-
That's freakin' amazing!!!!
-
Are you kidding? He looks fucking crazy! The pictures of him, as well as the others, really remind me of Frank Miller's The Dark Knight Returns which is always a good thing. (gee, do you think that's where they got the title for this movie from? DERP!) <p>I wasn't happy with the idea of Heath Ledger playing one of my all time favourite villains, but I'm starting to warm up to it now.
-
Cause that shot of the Joker kicking Batman needs a<P>KA-POW!!!<P>or a<P>BAM!!!
-
You heard me. Word.
-
Prove it.
-
Was never entirely sold on Heath as the Joker, and his pictures haven't helped. I need to see him in action and hear him to really judge. The rest of the pics are good. Glad to see Nolan kept a consistent look and feel with Batman Begins.
-
www.hawaiifilmoffice.com Shoots.
-
To me, and I don't know if anyone would agree, the batsuit always felt like a second skin. This looks too much like riot gear or body armor to look anything like the batsuit. I thought Batman wore the costume like in the comics because of his training and didn't need armor, he used the shadows and whatnot almost like he was really confident, almost arrogant, but did in fact get shot, stabbed, burned or even knocked out a few times. Hell, he had his back broken too. But here it seems like he's too made up and yes, the suit is rather busy. I much prefer the Burton costume. That felt more like Batman to me, even with the restrictive head movement. He was still able to kick ass and the suit looked ten times better.
-
...I hope the cinematography in the actual film is more atmospheric. The lighting seems a little too high key in some of these shots.
-
See how in the one pic there are others dressed like Batman? Maybe the picture of Joker kicking Batman is probably one of the people just dressed like him.
-
Batman Begins was a giant bore. This looks like more of the same.

These pictures are from Brazil, man.

the incredibly long intro with the back story (including excruciating and unrelenting music cue that made our group want to scream and run out) was tedious and the pace never quite recovered.

To everyone who came too late, I'm sorry you missed these pictures. From what I understand their visa expired, and they were deported, back to Brazil.
-
that was funny.
-
Dude, the guys on Judão.com.br received a e-mail from a guy that was searching the net for some reason and found this pics. He search the forums around the net(here, SHH, etc.) and no one was mentioning it. So he send it to the guys over Judão, and they posted. A couple of minutes later someone post them on SHH forums. The guy that send the pics was here some minutes ago.

Lol yes I get it, they're from Brazil. I just find it aburd that every five posts have to state that aforementioned fact. One or even, hell, ten posts stating that fact would have been more than adequate, doing it as many times as the Brazil posters were doing is just spam.

I do. The taking down of the "leaked" pictures is "the sell" Warner brothers is using to convince us that it is indeed not them! They thought they had us fooled but not me, I'm a quick one lol...
-
last time in which i decided to talk within the forum which is this one, i was accused as being both incomprehensible in addition to condescending. hopefully now, after witnessing the on top story and accompaniment photographs, you all agree with me, that all BATMAN is is childrensplay. it is almost as though it is an analogy in which is evidencial of the decay of that which medium is film in itself. i feel as though i have a right to educate all who are on this forum because i am he who has been an individual fortunate enough to be educated in film school. i've said it before and again in this time i will say it: i at least and acquainted wit hthe opinions of famouis film scholars whom all of you have had the advantage of reading, i am the only one who has. i know what makes film great and BATMAN contains nothing of this which is making film great. in fact there is very little of that in the society in which we find ourselves today. BATMAN was born in a kids medium: comic books, as an alternative making of film noir movies which were quite brilliant, but it is everso which it is unfortunate that none of you have probably ever heard the term FILM NOIR. mr. nolan simply is not knowing how to direct. his last film lacked qualities and this film i scertain to do so. what do your guys's think?
-
They were made with lead paint.

I'm sorry for the obcessive posting. Fuck, I register here to post this. But now, I have to come here more often. But as for the pics, I wanna see that scene with Batman beatting the shit out of Joker on the interrogation room.

filmgenius, I would like to hear your take
by where_are_quints_hobbit_set_reports
on the origins of the pictures above. Now, I know the pictures had big juicy asses, wore feather headresses, went topless, had a high rich/poor disparity-- with only 1 % of the pictures owning 99% of the wealth-- and were sniffing glue in a trash-strewn alley, but beyond that I've been unable to determine their origins. <p> Do you have any thoughts on the matter?

All kidding aside, Brazilian language & accent is
by where_are_quints_hobbit_set_reports
the most beautiful on earth. It's so funny, to compare the musical Brazilian portuguese to what they speak in Portugal, Europe... Euro portuguese is not ugly, but just sounds dry, like Castilian spanish or provincial French, whereas Brazilian Portueguese is like cool water running over you.

Thanks to this uber-god named Chris Nolan and his band of fucking badasses, The Dark Knight is going to show these other hollywood idiot fuckups how a real comic book movie should be made. Sadly, most will not take note and we'll conitnue to be subjected to piles of steaming sequel shit (X-Men 4.0?), useless "revamps" (Punisher "2": Frank's Back!), and pointless spinoffs (Who the FUCK cares about seeing Magneto's learning to mind-spoon in his pubescent years??). So bless you Nolan, Bale, Ledger, and the rest of the geniuses behind what will be next Summer's ultimate Batman movie! July is to damn far away, but it goes to show there is light at the end of the tunnel.....

DON'T EVEN KID ABOUT A DANCE SEQUENCE ON A BATMAN MOVIE!!! I'm still trying to forget Peter EMO dancing his ass off on Spider-Man 3. That was offensive. It was like Sam Raimi's hand came out of the screen and punch me in the eye. And as it come back, I could hear a little laughter. That bastard...

I actually had a sick feeling as I looked at those shots. As I was feared, in getting a clear shot of the Batman suit, I absolutely hate it. Where's the freakin' artists of costume design??? Sure, we geeks may imagine our comic books coming to life within the fantasy worlds they take place, ...in that the story becomes reality. But in my experience, that never comes at the sacrifice of incredible images. I don't know why this can't lean into the realm of being something visually exciting to LOOK at. At least Burton had THAT going for him. And I suppose if Tim Burton was teamed with Nolan here, ...in that Burton was leading the art direction, I suppose THEN we might all win. But personally, I do NOT like what I am "seeing" here. --And allow me to say that designing a better costume for ALL players would be simple. Hear that? Simple. Easy. No problem. Give me a half-day and I'd have the sketches and notes to prove my point. But yeah, whatever. Like is most often the case, we will settle for what Hollywood shovel us. At least I can count on "THE DARK KNIGHT" being better than "SPIDER-MAN 3".
-
So a skinny Christian Bale makes you shpoo goo all over your keyboard? In that case: Hi, my names RedJester and I'm 180 lbs 4% body fat baby!! Oh yeah!
-

decide to light everything so horribly. I can't believe you guys are really loving this, it looks like a throwback to the 60's show.
-
they shoould try good ol' organic cloth for the suit. The Bat looks like he's wearing a black body condom.
-
first off, these were more than likely brightened to show detail (it looks like the promotion pix for begins and Prestige). I wouldn't worry about the bright room being the new cave because it looks really industrial...kinda like...hmmm..Wayne Enterprises? If it was the cave why would the suit need to pop out of the floor, alas stay hidden the rest of the time. Not to Mention there is no way that Wayne manor could be rebuilt so fast. I think he has to use W.E. as a new headquarters. With Begins Nolan went for the whole Practical/realistic approach and in that respect I think everything looks AMAZING. The suit design looks as though it goes back to his ninja armor in the first film and I'm thinking something happens to the old suit because it is in a few pix so it looks like he gets a chance to design his armor like he gets to design a new cave. As for the Joker he just looks fucking amazing!! i wish there was a pic of him with the "tommy Gun" from the new trailer.
-
I mean, I can hardly edit myself without missing something. I'm a HUGE fan of the Batman character...and it's very hard to not get worked up after looking at those images. And some of us (like myself) will never be happy with anything less than the perfection of a Batman masterpiece.
-
These look AMAZING! I mean this movie has already kicked my ass!! and I don't think they are in the bat cave - i think they are in the hanger at Wayne Enterprises (from the first movie)
-
This is not finished, dude. They are probably not even production photos but someone taking photos close to the production. You think this shit is finished?

Taking it somewhere we haven't seen on the screen yet. I like that. And we have never seen the Joker look like this before either. That is a good sign (then again, everything from Spider-Man 3 looked good up until openning night...)
-
Looks vastly underwhelming, hopefully I will think differently by the time the film roles around. I guess Nolan is trying more for the gritty/realistic noir world, so if that is his interpretation, a highly stylized Joker prob would not fit visually. is just some lonely dude trying to push peoples buttons to get a rise out of someone. I went to film school too, and one of the first things you are taught is that Everything has artistic merit on some level. One of my professors, avante-garde filmmaker Ken Jacobs, would expose his classes to the value of a whole range of film styles. He would show Von Stroheim's "Greed" and "Wizard of Oz" in the same class. He once told us that he sat through "Chinese Odysses: Pandora's Box" twice in a row. And this is from a sophisticated filmmaker whos work is in the Whitney. So, ignore film genius. If he is serious it just means he is limited mentally an unable to see the depth in everything. its more of a comment on him then on the film.

Guys, The Batcave hasn't been built yet because of the mansion burning down. This movie takes place relatively soon after Batman Begins. Wayne is living in his penthouse apartment in Gotham City while the mansion (and the Batcave) are being constructed. The pic with the computers is a room in the apartment that Wayne is using as a makeshift Batcave.

As I posted in the other thread, Look at the costumes! That could kinda give it away. In the shots of several fake Bats sitting with Scarecrow, it is unclear but the costumes look home made.... is that a Baseball keepers chest guard one has on ? Are these a bunch of wannabe schmoes making Batman costumes themselves and running around Gotham ? AND MORE IMPORTANTLY where you can see the costumes on these OTHER Batmans, the costumes resemble his outfit from the first movie. PLOT POINT - Is the existence of these wannabe fakes in Gotham the reaon he unveils or switches to his new costume ? Also, all of the shots of people doing bat-cave like activities do not appear to be in the cave, but in the Applied Tech area at Wayne Enterprises. Oh yeah....and..... ....we know how Nolan likes his Miller (Frank, not the beer), and don't forget in Dark Knight Returns there was that guy who tried to be Batman, dressed in a home made costume, who gets shot trying to prevent a liquor store robbery. Plus all that "Sons of Batman" nonsense as well.
-

...the existence of the Joker was only revealed at the very end of Batman Begins. What is the betting this "Dent, I thought you were dead..." "Half!" sequence and line occurs right at the very, very end of the film ?
-
No problem. Actually, it was in commander jesus' post. Enjoy.
-
Batman Begins was great but there was one big problem - the score. Or rather lack of a Batman theme. These films really need a proper Batman theme. I'm not saying something like Danny Elfman's (which is great but suited to the more extravagant Burton movies) - something more like the Batman, Phantasiam cartoon. Or at least some tune that we can identify the new batman. Also, overall, I thought the score was poor for the actions sequences too. I know this is set in more of a real world setting than Burton's but we still need a heros tune. Check out Unbreakable when Bruce Willis rises outof the Pool - that was as realistic a world as you can get with the terrific "Unbreakable Man"'s Hero theme playing (although on the CD they call it the "Orange Man" - YUK"!). Know what I mean?

Thanks for the link Desolate One, That really answered my concerns! Feel better now. Even though its still Zimmer (who is a great composer) he seems to be acknowlegding the lack of Batamn theme tune - Cool. I wonder if he might give Batman a sort of Maximus Dextus merilious tune? Why not? Whatever, He'll deliver in his own way and I'm sure now we'll be happy.
-
brown films. Thank fuck for that, I like the guy, but his palette recently has been too dull for my taste (though I still enjoyed the films). Judging by the pictures it seems he's gone for a much crisper, cleaner look. The picture of The Joker kicking Batman reminded me of Kubrick.
-
I can't wait to see how the story plays out in this. Will the Joker end up getting physically scarred by taking a dip in something he shouldn't? 2 Face? What about that crazy Scarecrow fella?
-
Love the Joker's look. Love his face. Love his socks. Love his shirt.
-
i noticed that first pic just looks like regular makeup thats all smeared probably due to fighting or something. then some of the others further down show the whole "scarred" look. so i guess he wears the makeup before he truly becomes the joker. as far as all the complaints over batman's suit, it looks just like that picture that was released a few months ago so whats the big deal or surprise. and yes, the pics do seem way to bright but i doubt the final movie will look that way.
-
I like certain photo's I see of Ledger as the Joker, but then I dislike others. I like the shot of him kicking Batman - that looks bang on.<p> Plus, I'm still not completely sold on the white-skin-and-green-hair-as-make-up angle. I wish Nolan could have found a way of incorporating the fact that the skin/hair and lips are all 'real' and physically the result of an accident.<p> This is important for me because I feel that we need to have just the tiniest bit of sympathy for The Joker - ala 'The Killing Joke', and it shows that Batman and The Joker are different sides of the same coin - both the result of a traumatic experience.<p> But who knows? Maybe we'll see this anyway, but Nolan has chosen to approach it froma different angle.<p> As for people out there labelling other 'apologists' - at the moment there is nothing to apologise for; nor is there anything really worth writing the film off for. There seems to be a trend these days with people dismissing a film out of hand just by going on a few out-of-context images or rumours. Fuck me, the film hasn't even finished shooting yet and knobs are ranting about 'apologists' and not wanting to watch it because it'll be shit. Only Summer 2008 will bring us those answers...
-
those two shots of him coming down with the cape/glider open, you can see the cable holding him so these are probably all unfinished shots. i doubt they'd leave the cable visible since the last movie showed us he can sorta fly temporarily.
-
Yeah.. Mee too I'm a little thrown off by the Joker's look, I was hoping they would go a little bit better on his look. He just looks like a crazed lunatic that put some white on his face with red lipstick across his cheeks... It's kinda .. bleh... I still think they'll blow our minds away with this movie and we'll forget about it. Kuddos for the pics!
-
You're too thin, dear.
-
I hope that is the Batcave as it looks really interesting in a design sense. Remember Nolan is fixated on classic Bond (OHMSS for example and at one point when Bale re-enters the Wayne Foundation and chats up the secretary he becomes Bond pretty mauc) and this looks like Ken Adam designing the Batcave, very classy. It would also make complete psychological sense for the 'Cave' not to be gothic and all Burton-ised in this 'real' take on the legend. It would have to be a 'neutral', 'halfway' space between Bruce Wayne and Batman as well as functional workshop. Nolan is clever bastard he really is.
-
But oh well. After rewatching each of the Burton and Schumacher antichrist films I can only imagine what the world would be like today had Schumacher never taken over and Burton had a crack at the Riddler and a DECENT two-face, makes me want to puke watching TL Jones and Carey ass fuck those characters. Anyway, lets hope Ledger has a fatal fall and Weaving comes in and takes over. cheers
-

-
Too much articulation. Hooray for robo batman in 2008. And I know it's never going to happen, but would it kill Hans Zimmer to use some of the classic Elfman theme this time around?
-
Awesome! Haters, eat a bag of dicks.
-
These are NOT screencaps from the film. They would have been taken by the stills photographer on the set, while they were filming/setting up. The lighting will be far more 'dynamic' in-camera and after post. Now then. This film is going to rape the world with its awesomeness.
-
Did these pictures come all the way from Brazil?
-
If they were screencaps of a Nolan action scene, I'd have no idea whatsoever what was going on.
-
dude, don't be wishing death on actors because you have a different casting idea, that's a bit much. I for one appreciate Nolan's sometmes un-obvious, creative casting, and expect great things from Ledger's performance.
-
Yey, it has been discuss a couple of hours ago. It did
-
Crazy ass punk who paints his face will eventually make the look permanent. At least I hope so. I've never pictured Batman getting white greasepaint on his fists. And is anybody else getting the vibe that maybe TwoFace is the main villain with Joker getting less screen time and becoming the main baddie in the 3rd one? I really wouldn't mind. Shouldn't the best villain be last?
-
Joker kicks Batman in the Brazil nuts. Looks like Joker finally got himself some of those wonderful toys, too. Can't wait.

A Dark Knight Returns movie. Thats only in our dreams. The day somone pull that off, I'll gladly walk toward the horizon.

Holy Bat Booty
-
...Would be good enough! Cant believe no one is demanding a sequel...
-
I know it's not a screen cap or anything, but even the angle gives it that horrible 60's Batman look. And also- Batman isn't supposed to let people see him!!! He wouldn't show up at a crowded place like that in full lighting.

White Castle farts are the deadliest of all weapons.

If that happen, I'll be a happy man. And an Umbreakble sequel is needed. Bruce Willis as a superhero is just cool.

I've said it before, I'm even more sure now... Nolan's gone all Raimi on this one... and it will suck like you won't believe. I'm just sayin' is all...

Is he doomed to play parts as a mentor who dies either in the first half hour of a film or in the first film of a series for the rest of his life? I have been screaming for a sequel since I seen it. To me that is one of the best "comicbook" movies around.
-
...But the whole picture was in double overlap so I think this was meant for the Imax 3d
-
The role she was born to play.
-
...He wouldn't show up at a crowded place like that in full lighting."<p>You don't think? Gordon: "Batman, come quick, the Joker is robbing the bank!" Batman: "No way, dude! It's high noon on a Monday! Someone might see me! Those citizens will just have to deal."

I have to say, unfortunately this series is on a decline after the heights of Dark Knight 8. The screener hosts were great though - as we were all given a blowjob by some mighty fine asian and brazilian babes and also left with a goody bag containing...uh yuk - I thought was a goody bag - how the hell was I supposed to know they gave it to me to chuck in the bin - I mean it even had the Dark knight logo on it for petes sake..sheez

Well, I got faith in Nolan and the whole team - they all delivered a terrific rebirth of batman - its the same team - so I am sure they will deliver a great follow up and even better now that Hans Zimmer is writing a Batman theme for our Dark Knight. Fingers crossed.

Maybe that "Batman" tha is getting his ass kicked by the Joker at full noon is one of Fake Batman. It would explain why the fuck a ramdon thug is able to holding. Remember the first fight on Begins? A dude try to grab him in the prison and happen? He got some broken bones.

Please, don't do the Batdance. There's a episode from the 60' show that was redub in portuguese with some crazy shit. One of them: Joker: I don't care, I'm gonna fuck Batman's Aunt. Everytime I look a that pic for the THIS IS GOTHAM, I see that Ledger could say that. LOL

Hello, I have the entire television run of the brazilian 60' sshow in question, on 1/8 inch archival magnetic tape, which I run through a modified casette-head reader hooked up to a schoolroom overhead projector. It is a very expensive set up and generates a lot of heat, and I have no air conditioning, so I don't want to watch THE WHOLE THING. <p> So, does anyone know off-hand about where in the brazilian TV series... season, episode, time within episode... The Joker declares that He Doesn't Care, He Is Going To Fuck Batman's Aunt? I've looked all over the internet and cannot find this information anywhere. Is it even in there? <p> Thanks so much in advance...
-
Which, incidentally, marked the initial decline of his career.

Show me, show me. I see Gaius link to Batusi and I am stunned! I thought Travoltas dance in Pulp Fiction was unique and that everyone thereafter copied him. Anyone got a link to the difinitve Adam West batdance??

And does joker really say that about batmans's Aunt??
by theycallmemrglass
I'm..I'm confused - are we talking the Adam West series but dubbed in Brazillian with added swearing?

Thanks but thats only 300 million that proves you can fool a lot of people a lot of the time and they LOVE SHIT. Go ask McDonalds how great their cuisine is douchebag

not the Batdance from the '89 Batman. I'm looking for the Brazilian 60' show in which the Joker vows he doesn't care, and that he will have sexual congress with Batman's Aunt. Do you know what episode that is??? <p> Like I said, I have the whole run, all 8 seasons, every episode, but it's such a headache (literally, because of the apparatus giving off RF frequencies) to run the tapes, I'm hoping you can let me know roughly where the scene I mentioned occurs. <p> Thanks in advance...

You have no idea how hard it is to get a serious answer from some of the clowns on these Talkbacks!!!

Always here to help. The same guys on their website has a redub with the beggining of Star Wars: A New Hope that is really funny. Is basically Darth Vader storming Leia' ship to regain his stolen headphones from her.

The Bat dance (under Batusi on youtube) - http://tinyurl.com/yrt6cb Damn funny... Just wish it lasted a bit longer.

i've barely scoured the internet and i know what's up with that scene...and i read it like 3 weeks ago. from what i've heard, the joker crashes a wayne/dent party to out a rumor that wayne is the batman. but wayne is there AND batman shows up...what i don't know is who is pretending to be batman for him. rumors say THAT is who anthony micheal hall is- a gotham cop who assists batman with the 'multiple batmen' ruse, but he gets killed off (by either joker or the scarecrow- i don't know)...so how convenient for bruce, right?! here's my secret, um, you wanna pretend to be me?- holy shit you got killed, well, i guess my secret is safe." Not a great sounding premise, but it's what i've pieced together....but then i see the several other batmen, and now i'm really confused. this will be one busy movie. and i agree with someone WAY up there...i'd prefer to see christopher eccelston as the joker, but we'll see.
-
Now but I dont think we'll ever get the joke becasue its all in Brazillian (or Spanish rather).
-
That's exactly why alot of people don't like counting The Killing Joke as part of continuity, because The Joker is a character that you shouldn't have any sympathy for.

i want sympathy for the joker..i've had tons of bad days where i could've snapped. it makes him a true opposite to batman- bad shit happens to people, what do they do with it? well, if they are brought up well and rich, they try to turn it into a positive and help people.the 'i don't want anyone to go through what i went through' way of thinking. but if their life has sucked, and they are a broke sadsack who has lost everything, then it gets spun into 'i want everyone to hurt as much as i have' mentality.....basically similar events can effect people in totally different ways.
-
As much as I anticipate the release of Dark Knight, I am suddenly now in the mood to watch Dada-dada-dada-dada-dum-Batman - starting from episode 1.....
-
batman begins had music, not score, batman had themes, not a theme. elfman's theme was one motif repeated throughout the whole movie, begins had molossus(the most badass hero theme ever), vespertillio the inspirational one, myotis which had the falling theme, and the bat flappings. that's called genius scoring, because it's music, not prancy little jingles. this is the type of stuff you could listen to in your car just like a neurosis cd.

The Tumbler owns Fursts Batmobile. his is sleek and whatever but the Tumbler is a tough motherfucker, a total badass.

Whats going on in that picture where Batman is descending with his cape extended into wings? If thats a look-alike Batman, how does he have the special memory cloth cape,or the skills needed for such a stunt? If its the real Batman It looks like he's wearing greyish cloth pants without armor(exept for a codpiece). Seriously zoom in on his legs. Did I miss something?
-
And sort of agree - just I didnt differentiate between motif, score, theme and incidental music. Zimmer is a great composer but I felt he did not punctuate the action scenes enough and lacked a batman character "motif?" should I say? Thats all but the rest of scenes like Bruce Waynes and the bats in the cave were done well. I'm sure Zimmer will deliver a better complete "score?" this time round!
-
Peter Petrelli would be a good Nightwing. And Nolan just have the excuse for him on this movie. There is a lot of vigilantes around Gotham cause of Batdude. Nightwing could be one of them, but later Bruce realize his potential and give him some of his toys. Hey, if you have someone that could actually help you s9metimes on your little war on crime, why not use it? If he would be introduced as someone that helps Wayne, but has his own motives and a life, it could work really well.
-
Zimmer said in an interview that he had worked up a really triumphant hero theme, but he didn't feel that Batman had "earned" it yet. So in Batman Begins he only hinted at it.
-
I just checked randomly and the DARK KNIGHT PICS are still up over at http://www.comics2film.com as of 8:18 am Pacific time Friday 8/17/07.

She's definitely got that "whore" look as opposed to Johansson's sweet girl-next-door look.

If Johansson looks for like a girl-next-door, shit, I wanna live in that neighborhood.
-
Nolan has really got it wrong. The Joker's not just a psycho in makeup, he's a killer clown. He can't stop the crazy, demented, infuriating Joker persona, nor can he switch off his creepy appearance. Wipe off Ledger's makeup and you've just got a nut (the character that is). The Joker's more than that.
-
any of us old-school AICNers remember the original pics from Fellowship of the Ring? How horrible and 'Batman Forever-esque' they looked? Then, in the context of the movie, it looked great? I'm sure the same will hold true here. Calm down everyone, this will be great.

Please, for the love of whoever, don't suggest introducing Robin, Nightwing, or any other teenage ward/partner/sidekick. Batman is best on his own. Robin just makes the whole thing seem kinda...more gay than usual.

They are quite possibly the best things on the internet. Maybe it's just the beer on an empty stomach, but I think they're changing my whole life. This one, with the leaping arabesques... too much, way too much. <p> And the women in these old Batman shows are fucking gorgeous!!! And who the hell is that crazy fat, queeny King Tut?! Ha ha ha, Jesus Christ, what a great show this apparently is....
-
no Batgirl, no Nightwing, and no robin. In fact, no gay sidekicks costumed to hide in a bowl of jelly babies at all. And certainly, under any circumstances, no Chris "Empty from the neck up" O'Donnell. In any film, or on any TV show.

Starring Shia as Dick Gayson. Beaten unconscious after a donkey punch gone awry at the local public restroom, Shia seeks vengeance on the dark underworld of closeted Republican politicians.

i agree. how else would someone get a hold of these production stills. why else would they take them at such key moments. what we're seeing is promo stuff, maybe just out early before things could be tweaked/wire removed, etc. .............about the joker mouth- the differences are confusing me. sometimes it's paint, sometimes it's heavily scarred, sometimes it's lightly scarred.....i've heard that some of it may be CGI-- wider cuts at the corners of the lips that open a bit more.....anyone else read that somewhere?
-
I think Heath Ledger will be perfect but I still would of liked to see JT do it. There's more than one person suited to the role. Hugo Weaving also.
-
Sometimes I hate reading these threads, because of people bitching about small little details. Who gives a shit about batman's show size, and "Heath Ledger isn't the joker." Who the fuck are you? You OCD motherfuckers, wait for the movie to come out before you shred it. Again, criticizing an artist before he's finished his piece is just juvenile. Now am I bitching about small details? Damn you people! Seriously though, I love you nerdy bastards.

. . . it's easy to make that statement when you have 18 years of viewing Nicholson's Joker and only 4 or 5 still shots of Ledger's Joker to compare it to. I have 18 years of comparing Nicholson's Joker to the comic-book Joker and horrible memories of Burton's vision of Catwoman and the Penguin telling my gut to hold off judgement til AFTER I actually view The Dark Knight.
-
as of 12:30 eastern time today they are still there so hurry. notice cillian murphy in one of the last stills.

Okay, the batsuit looks too Japanese or whatever, fair enough. But based on a couple shots of the joker... look how greasy his hair is, he looks like he's been through hell! Who knows how he did or didn't look when he left Marc Levin's underground bunker in the morning, maybe these shots are from after a terrible ordeal. <p> I am not one of these people who go "DON'T JUDGE IT UNTIL YOU'VE PAID TEN DOLLARS TO SEE IT IN A THEATER," but I think it's a little early for complaining that the joker's make-up is messed-up. The batsuit changes and evolves, I guarantee you the Joker's look will change over the course of the movie too... esp. the sides of his mouth.
-
I was trying to see the pictures and missed them. Then I had to do a google search. I came across this website. All you get is a "Page Not Found" message. But when you highlight it you notice a bunch of HA ha Ha hA etc,. So I selected the whole thing, replaced all the A's and the H's and got this presumably from The Joker Himself " Pge not found. see YOu In DECeMbER" That's after I removed all the a's and h's and deleted all the leftover whitespace. Sorry if this has been posted before.
-
I just keep having flashbacks to the opening of The Killing Joke, with batman and the joker (who turned out to be fake) in the interrogation room!! good shit! and remember, you're NOT going to see batman's suit in broad daylight...everyone bitched about the first suit when they saw it with the white background..so fuckin relax already!
-
It's clear as day that Ledger's Joker is wearing a 3-piece suit. Not only that but did you see the pattern of his shirt?! Did you see those MAGNIFICENT SOCKS?! And you think this guy isn't a stylish motherfucker?! Get out.<P>Here is a little background that may help some of you understand the angle they're going for: Nolan and Ledger's Joker is supposed to be based on his earliest comic appearances. Maybe you guys should familiarize yourself with that particular canon before bitching about how his appearance doesn't match up with your Gen-X sensibilities.

I can't believe he's not here throwing a baby tantrum. Maybe he's at home... washing his tights!!!

I reckon everyone does but I thought I jog the memory ;) http://tinyurl.com/2uozhr I guess my all time favourite Joker is Mark hamill's take in the Animated series which this Deadend version comes close.
-
I could see how down the line, you could reintroduce Robin and it might work. Most people's problem is that they can't wipe away the memory of Schumacher's 2 shitfests. If you approached it as Batman starting to need some help and circumstances (parents' death) which remind him of his own situation prompts him to take this kid under his wing and train him, but he actually struggles with being a mentor and a surrogate parent and it's actually written as good drama - Wayne's first attempt to really reach out to another human being and start a family of sorts. It could work. And take out absolutely any camp or trace of homoeroticism, make it nothing like the old tv series or Schumacher's shit, and there you have it. Hell, even the Highlander series managed to get some aspects of that right. The Duncan/Richie relationship and the struggles between the two were actually the Batman/Robin story that should have been.
-
there was murmur for a while that the little kid that batman tossed the nightvision scope to in BEGINS, who was also with Rachel during the narrows fear-freakout- would maybe become some sort of pet project for Bruce without ever really being a robin...basically a kid he begins to look out for, and maybe the kid even be some 'eye on the streets'. In BEGINS there is mention that his parents are now missing. I don't think they got to convey the murder and mayhem of the fear gas scene like they should have. maybe they will mention how many people died in that attack in this one. But they should totally re-invent robin, his arrival and origins, just not for like 8 more movies down the road!
-
Last film had me slapping my head but this one takes the cake.
-
That's not the real Joker!!!! Why would the Joker have to put makeup on ? I know they are trying to keep it realistic, but the change in skin color can be easily explained and still feel true to the general tone of the movie. I want a real Joker!! I guess that may never happen at this point. Hopefully Heath Ledger will be good enough to make me forget about it and enjoy it.
-
What is all this talk about Nightwing and Batgirl? Seriously?! All of the pics are still up at http://www.ignoremagazine.com/qualitysmack/
-
as much as i'd love a scene ala' killing joke where there is a made-up dupe sitting in for the joker, i don't think the new batman franchise is going to pull a 'OMG it wasn't the real villain" TWICE in a row, i.e. ducard is the real ra's al ghgul, heathjoker is a pawn for some albino mastermind in a secret hideout. As much as a comic book like batman can be, they are trying to keep it plausible to real life...and i appreciate that....do you know of any accidents in this world that can bleach someone's skin AND dye hair green AND stretch thier mout out? nope. but he's given you three realistic answers to what has become myth. Heath has a cut smile, dyes his hair cause he's punk-ass, and paints his face for effect. i mean, they COULD have made him a natural albino- hell POWDER was believable looking...- and then the joker would have neat red eyes to boot!
-
Sorry, but the guy just looks crappy. So now the Joker just wears dime-store, badly-applied clown makeup and a cheap hair-dye???<p>Can someone PLEASE explain why they didn't just hire Adrian Brody for this role? A guy who not only LOOKS exactly like the Joker, but has a long history of playing unstable nut-jobs and has an Academy Award for Best Actor (The Pianist), to boot! >:(
-
shit guys- one last thing- look at the continuity here….batman with heath being interrogated- batman is in old suit….in the fight pic, he’s in the new suit. which means what- the joker is caught early in the film- escapes, and both joke and bats just up their game?
-
I love those and own them on DVD and go back and watch them all the time. Still this movie looks amazing! The fact it's a year a way seriously bother me. Oh and please don't come out and be like "yeah, call me a hater..." I know you think it's cool to try and bash on something other people like, but you're pathetic will some of you at least wait till the movie comes out before you give yourselves the titles of "haters"? Because if you actually sit back and enjoy something your life will be a lot better.
-
They've been up at Comics2Film.com now for 48 hours with nary a "cease and desist" order in sight from Warners. Why? Because C2F probably has paid for the rights to be the official "scooper" for X number of days until (shhh dont tell anyone) then they will be removed. Fucking idiot warners - just release em officially and stop treating us like we are stupid.
-
I mean, they could set it up perfectly. Wayne always had to import his costume pieces in bulk, except for the main Nomec bodysuit. The cowl and ears and what not were all imported. Scarecrow (familiar with the docks already) finds and hijacks a Wayne Enterprises ship, and starts masquerading his gang around Gotham as Batman. Hence the silly looking body armor on some of them, not having that Nomec suit.<br /><br />Or that's what The Joker does, and tries to out Wayne as Batman. Etc, etc. You never know. :)
-
First of all, I don't know where you're getting your demographic figures from but that's neither here nor there. Most filmgoers (usually the younger set) will go see a movie more than once if that movie delivers. And repeat business is often the lifeblood of genre and "experience" films. Fair enough.<P>However, what I was refering to with "Gen-X sensibilities" is the portrayal or representation of the Joker over the last 20 years. There is a preconceived notion of how the Joker is supposed to look and behave that doesn't always jibe with what's come before. Most people of a certain age group base their perception of the Joker on Burton's BATMAN and certain graphic novels (primarily THE KILLING JOKE). Yet the original Joker was a mass-murderer who just happened to have a clownish appearance. It wasn't until the Golden Age and the 70's that the depravity of his insanity was explored. This is a guy who is supposed to be completey amoral = everything is funny to him because nothing is of consequence. He kills for the joy of it. And when you have that sort of flick-o-the-switch hyper-insanity, it's truly terrifying. You can play it up for yucks (like Nicholson) or you can shoot for something a little darker and psychologically disturbing.<P>As for Ledger's Joker being nothing more than a common thief, I think you are underestimating the aesthetic. Cause I find it highly unlikely that Nolan & Co. (in the midst of Ledger's performance) would choose to ignore the twisted brilliance of the Joker's criminal mind. And let's not forget that we are probably witnessing the "birth" of the Joker in TDK much like we witnessed the emergence of Batman in BB. These characters will be evolving.
-
Besides the receding hairline I mean. :(
-
after a little further inspection of the pics at comics2film, there are TWO BATMEN in the room with the joker. behind him, the batman in the BEGINS suit, which makes me think it is early in the film----but then there's the pic of the joker on the floor, and the NEW suited batman in from of him. same table, now lamp is knocked off...hopefully, there is nothing so glaring in the edit of the movie- maybe a pic is from a dress rehearsal or something, on outtake...or maybe batman- and a buddy in a suit- play a little good-cop bad-cop with the joker to confuse the shit out of him even more? it needs to be explained!

with the commissioner handing Bats the Joker playing card. Obviously that was a teaser for a possible sequel, but...do you think they'll keep that as part of the story in Dark Knight? or just start fresh?
-
Batman's new armor looks FUUUUGLY! Then again, my favorite look was still from the first Burton movie, back when Michael Keaton couldn't move his neck. =) I liked that one was because it had a sculptural quality, as if a gargoyle came alive, and it played well into that whole theatrical thing, as well as being more practical than dodging bullets in your tights (which was the standard back then). The Begins suit was about on the same level as the Returns suit. Neither of them were as cool as the original, but I didn't hate them. They seemed practical enough without totally moving away from the idea of theatricality. This latest suit is just poorly designed. Yeah, I guess it's the most practical of the bunch- kinda looks like some military outfit/outdoor climbing gear kinda thing, but it's totally lost any sense of fun or elegance. It looks ridiculously blocky and rubbery. It kind of reminds me of a horrible variant action figures. I'm also a bit worried about the number of things going on in this movie... The Joker deserves his own movie, but we've also got Two Face and this whole multiple Batman thing going on. Hopefully Nolan can pull that off, as I trust his skills as a storyteller than as a visual stylist. But man, that suit's ugly.
-
And the pics are still up at Dark Horizons, or at least some of them.<br><br>I think this and Iron Man are going to make this years summer movies seem weaker than they already do.

You got it all wrong. Gaius got it all right. Gold Star for Gaius. I happen to think the joker looks terrific in the pics so far. Both when he is all tidy and when he is fucked up looking. He looks more menacing and creepier all fucked up. He's fuckin' crazy. It works. Works like the Killing Joke and Arkham Asylum (which shows the most fucked up looking Joker ever) had to do their best to shed a lot of the camp and silliness from the character, especially after the TV series influenced some of the story lines. I don't care if the Joker is just a pickpocket in this flick, as long as he is the murderous fucked up Joker acting with depravity and wonton abandon, then we have struck gold. He is the antithesis of Batman. One tries to restore order, the other creates anarky. He is not a "supervillian" and I don't think he has ever been referred to as a "supervillian". He is part of Batman's rogue's gallery of villians. I always loved the fact that a the best villian for Batman, who has no superpowers, was a villian that did not have them either in the form of the Joker. Demystifying Ras Al Ghul (shedding his great age and the Lazarus Pit) served the first film very well. Stripping the Joker down to his elements, that he is not a predictable villian because he is so demented makes him the perfect nemesis for Batman and even other villians. Would the Gotham parade scene from the first Burton film really work in this movie?
-
I'd trust Roman Polanski to direct a "Teen Titans" film before I trusted Nolan with the Batman franchise.
-
The pictures that once were here. After looking at them I am not sure about this film. The first one was okay to me. I liked some of the mood and characters. I still just am not totally into the BAT suit. I still think it should be a bit more streamlined and a touch closer to the comic. It always seems clumsy looking to me. I do think with Nolan trying to stick these BATMAN films into such a real type world it can cause more problems for the feel of the story. The Joker I am still not sure about either. I wish he had a cleaner look and with the look it doesn't have to be overexplained why he has a clown look 24/7. I do feel that if the fantasy elements have to be over explained in these films they seem to lose something. But I will check it out and then I can see if this all ties together well.

well, i won't get into jack nicholson's horrible make up job, the fact that you can see it all over his collar from scene to scene, etc. If nolan had gone for the 'bleached skin' look, i'm guessing it would still have to be done with makeup.. & all us sticklers would be bitching about how that looked too, how it just looked like makeup. I am the most 'old school' die hard joker fan i know, and i have come to terms with what they have done here. so until they can somehow bring the animated series look to life, or find a great albino actor, i look forward to this 'take' on things.....remember fans, it WILL NEVVER BE THE MOVIE IN YOUR HEAD.
-
With the BATMAN movie in the head comment. By the way like you I post at mojizu.com. Damn you do some mighty fine illustrations!
-
No one had a total shitfit over that in the first movie. As long as he physically resembles the Joker and, more importantly, acts like the fuckin' Joker, I don't fuckin' care if Halle Berry used her pussy lips to apply it to Ledger's face (I certainly would like it applied to my face that way, though). I am a purist, but I am reasonable. Just remember, Nicholson's smile, I thought, was also part of the repair job on his face from the plastic surgeon in the Burton film after he got shot in the face. That is not exactly the true story behind Joker's grin, yet through the whole fuckin' movie, a gas creates the same exact effect. Burton tried to explain the bleached skin and the green hair through chemicals and the smile through the shot in the face (more like a deflected bullet from Batman) and then resorted to the chemical causing it for all the laughing gas victims. They fucked that one up. I am assuming if Ledger gets shot in the face in the Dark Knight, it was by Jake Gyllenhall.
-

I wonder how the hell this fits into the story line.<br><br>
-
Some folks have had concerns that the new images are very spoilerish, and I guess they are a bit, but not terribly so. If this is WB's strategy to release these then it is yet more shrewd marketing on their part. This morsel is making everyone drool, but they're still with-holding the main course (as they should). I've been wondering how this movie will look, and these pics give me a lot of assurance.
-
might look ok when the product is finished, but than again maybe it won't. maybe these joker pics are fake to hide the real awesome joker. or maybe this movie has joker as the secondary charactor and in part 3 he becomes the white skinned joker for real. i think if they made him up to look like the ral joker, and cut the sloppy makeup job and curly unkempt hair he'd be really good as the charactor.
-
Is the new version of whistling past the graveyard.<p>Almost nothing I've seen of Heath Ledger's past performances or the actual pictures we've seen of him as The Joker give me any confidence that he should have even been considered to be cast in this iconic role.
-
like the kid from the cartoon. Knowing that Bruce Wayne would recklessly endanger children for his crusade tells me much about the character, but I don't want him running around with boys in their awkward teens. When Robin gets old enough, he should go away to school and never be heard from again...unless he is annoying, then he should die. And if he is a she, he should grow up to be catwoman on rollerskates.
-
Hey the Jokers around the net have said that because of the leak they won't be doing whatever in December they were planning. Whatever that means it seems kinda sucky to me

..."long URL / we'll insert space" dumbness: just add a few lines of script that will convert everything posted that starts with "http://" into something like "[link]" that will be the posted URL. [Link] is short and won't break talkbacks. Click [link] and see the original URL. But of course, someone would actually have to spend an hour modifying and configuring the talkback scripts to do that, so it will never happen. (Well, maybe if WS Anderson makes a Talkback remake...?)

is perhaps the best anti-drug therapy that anyone could possibly need because only drugs would make someone dance like that on TV. Who in their right mind would subject themselves to such humiliation? LOL!

keep them up? I have always wonder that. for example, that other site called firstshowing still has them, and many others... But AICN can't things up for so long... Why?

kiss my ass dickwad, enjoy stetching your weiner to another tedious overbloated hollywood retelling of a comic book with distracting 'stars' predictable plots and cliched music douchebag, how would YOU KNOW shit when your covered in it?

I'm not surprised you were accused of being condescending as your name alone is incredibly pompous and you write like a total dick. None of us have heard of FILM NOIR? Fuck you. Honestly. Also, BATMAN is no more childsplay than infamous, respected characters like Sherlock Holmes. The film (Batman Begins) is no less film-noir than Bladerunner or Chinatown (neither or those were completely purist either.) Commenting on The Dark Knight based on stills is silly, but not nearly as ridiculous as your statement: "i feel as though i have a right to educate all who are on this forum because i am he who has been an individual fortunate enough to be educated in film school" Who are you? James Lipton? You dumb douche. You're not the only person who knows how to read books and watch films, fuckwit. Furthermore, paying for a degree doesn't entitle you to the mantle of assholery you are claiming here. "Childrensplay"?!??! I'll beat you to death with a copy of The Dark Knight Returns. Why don't you go suck your professor's dick and go bitch to another crowd in a thinly-veiled attempt to exercise your angst at being a moron that probably couldn't make a film to save his life. Boo fucking hoo. You know nothing more than a whole lot of the guys on here who aren't nearly as pompous or as full of shit as you. Most likely because they did not waste 60,000 dollars on film school only to become a failure who talks big to fanboys.

I get the notion that filmgenius isn't exactly sincere in his opinions and views, but what do I know, I'm dum.

and Bats wears armour - well so long as it realistic. I'd hate for comic books to be anything but realistic

About Burton fucking it up...I was referring to the plastic surgery part. If he was going to commit to the chemicals causing the bleached skin and green hair and making him a little more nuts than he already was, why not have it create his distorted smile? Especially since a chemical is introduced later that caused a toxic effect in other people. I think one issue that brings a lot of debate is that we are talking about characters that are over sixty years old and have been revamped numerous times in the comic books alone, let alone by television, cartoons and films. My opinion is centered towards the setting you have established in the first film is why the Joker should be like this in this film. It works with that Nolan's concept of demystifying some of what goes on in Batman. It makes the story more acceptable to the mainstream, I feel, and probably is easier to translate something a little more grounded to the screen. I do respectfully disagree that the choice for Joker is for emo fanboys. I don't see this as motivation for a director like Nolan. Mind you, I am not saying that Ledger is effective as the Joker or the Joker's origin and behavior is exactly what Gaius and I say it is going to be. It would appear that way, but it could still fail miserably. I am a fan, but not a fanboy so I won't go saying this is the shit when it is a year from release. I hope it will be great and the pics have me excited, but you just don't know. Just remember, alot of people were upset with Nolan's desire to not do Miller's Year One and he pulled off an excellent film. Also remember what the comic book god Miller wanted to do with the Batman Begins when Arnofsky was going to direct it, Bruce Wayne was homeless, the Batmobile was a Lincoln Continental and Alfred was a large black mechanic. This is funny since Sin City and 300 were faithful adaptations of his works, he would be willing to shit on Batman. The guy created the beginning and end for Batman with Year One and The Dark Knight Returns. The Goblin costume from Spiderman, I agree with what has been said for years, it looked like Spidey was fighting the green power ranger. However, it fit into the film and the way the story was told for Osborne/Golbin's origins. This practical approach is what keeps these movies mainstream I think.

Why not go ahead and make those sketches and post 'em? As much as I hated the first four and as much as I liked Begins, they've still never gotten the character's visual presentation right. (It is a man in a bat costume, though, and it's gotta be tricky to do that without it looking silly.) Anyway, if you think you know how it should be done, I'd be curious to see it.

I a baldie Joker, Brother!!!!
-
Make of that what you will.

When you see the suit in the light of day, it just looks horrible, and so far this film looks very brightly-lit. When dealing with this stuff, the lighting should be obscuring what looks bad, and highlighting what looks good, and so far it looks like Nolan's lighting man favors the ambiance of a hospital waiting room's florescent flood lighting.
-
... before I posted. So these came from Brazil, eh? Good pussy down there. I really kinda dig the new Joker look. The thing you have to realize is that they have already done the Joker in all of his bleached-skin glory in a lot of different takes already. Hell, just look at what they did to him in "The Batman" to make him more Gen-X savvy. Monkey Fu Joker? Kiss my dick! <p> I think it would be interesting to have the Joker in face paint in this one and have him all bleach-skinned in the third one. Nolan seams to like doing that, so I wouldn't put it past him. But, other than that, I'm pretty okay with it so far. <p> May the spirit of TOTAL FUCKING DESTRUCTION be with you!

I've seen 'Batman Begins' twice, and though I'm not even really a fan of 'Batman' or indeed superhero movies as a genre, I have to say that 'Batman Begins' is a fucking tremendous movie, and that Christian Bale was a genius bit of casting. His scene where he goes to the party and plays up his 'playboy' persona, that scene alone proves what a talent he is, it's full of great little subtle touches. Bale will be making future classics in other genres after these, just wait and see.

And Subway's Jared get's Bruce Wayne to lose all his muscle tone eating turkey club sandwiches
-
First off - so many of these pictures are light of day, or in bright rooms. Where's the darkness that set such a great tone for the first movie? Also, not a big fan of the "made-up" Joker. The origin of Joker in every comic version is tied directly to the permanence of the chemically altered smile and skin. It's what pushes an already evil over the brink of insanity. It's a disappointing omission in my opinion. Still holding faith in Nolan - but won't be convinced until I see the movie on the screen.
-
Look what he did with the first film<P>If this film is shot with armoured batsuit under srip lighting then so be it. You know this will be the best comic book movie
-
And the whole film is shot in daylight and well lit interiors, yes, no?
-
what appears to be a radical departure in the origins of The Joker, ie no silly chemical incident, might improve on and be better than the "cannon" comic book story. i have no issues whatsoever with The Joker being just a regular psychopath who happens to paint and dress like The Joker. well done, Mr Nolan, you have not made a bad film yet and i would suggest with The Dark Knight you are not going to be making a bad film in any hurry.

starting tonight this could be the last post on this talkback.............Iam a man of my word!

Which is important with regards to the various complaints about the brightness and 'pop' quality of the images. Chris Nolan and his long serving cinematographer Wally Pfister have shot all their films together in the 1:2.35 aspect ratio and certainly since Batman Begins have shot with anamorphic lenses (as opposed to Super 35mm which can be framed for the same aspect ratio but which uses spherical lenses). There are several ways to distinguish whether an image has been captured spherically or anamorphically but one of the certain traits is in how out of focus highlights are rendered - typically in backgrounds. Case in point would be the mid shot of Batman above a Chicago skyline at night. Note that in the center of the image the street and car lights on the road below are distinctly circular. These out of focus highlights are called 'boke' (pronounced Bow-Kay). This is indisputable evidence that the shot was taken with a spherical lens and is NOT a screen cap' from production footage. If the image had been captured with an anamorphic lens the boke would be vertically orientated ellipses. The boke towards the bottom left edge of the frame appear to pertain towards the elliptical (though in the wrong orientation) though this is merely a function of light entering the iris ('pupil') of the lens at a more acute angle than at the center of the image - a common abberration associated with wider lenses. Another function of anamorphic lenses, as distinct from spherical lenses, is that they require considerably more light to perform properly. Typically they will shoot at f2.8/f4 whereas a spherical lens will happily provide an optimum image at f1.4/f2. Put simply one needs roughly double the amount of light to shoot with anamorphic lenses. This would account for why the majority of the stills appear to be very bright and high key and also why an entirely backlit, translucent drop ceiling would have been incorporated into the set design. It's lit for anamorphic shooting but seen in the production photos at a much higher light level than would have been recorded on film. The photos mimic screen cap's because the job of a set photographer is to shoot from as close as possible to the A camera position. They rarely, if at all, emulate the filtration or exposure levels of the film camera though because their purpose is for publicity use and studio publicity departments want bright, clear photos that can be manipulated at a later date for a variety of purposes.

because after Batman Begins, I have very high expectations. I will reserve judgment of the film until after I see it in the theaters. So far, I'm not necessarily impressed with what I've seen and heard. However time will tell.
-
Upon reviewing the original 1989 "Batman", I realized that I really don't like it that much. I mean, there are some good parts, but I don't really like it as a Batman film. Batman gets beatup a lot and is out in the open way too much. Actually I prefer the second one to the first one, mainly due to Michelle Pfieffer in skin-tight lycra. Man, what I'd let her due to me with that whip... <p> Or any girl in a catsuit, actually. How about some of that Brazillian pussy dressed as a pussy?
