Harry & Yoko in Baltimore celebrating the genius of John Waters with The Rolling Roadshow!

Published at:  Aug 09, 2007 12:44:09 PM CDT

Hey folks, Harry here in Washington, D.C. As those of you that frequent my Myspace page know, I'm in Washington, D.C. We've been hitting the Smithsonian, the AMC in Georgetown to watch THE SIMPSONS MOVIE (thought it fell a trifle flat) and BOURNE ULTIMATUM (which kicked unholy ass) - and no, there is no D.C. screening, but there is a Baltimore triple feature of John Waters films!

Here's All The Details about the guests, the location (which recently changed!) and more!

We're watching the original HAIRSPRAY - POLYESTER and DESPERATE LIVING - all right smack dab in the midst of Waters' own backlot!

So if Moriarty's posting of LARS AND THE REAL GIRL and that horrifying doc wasn't enough bizarre weirdness for ya - then hop in the car and join us for a night of really fucking weird fun! See ya there!

Just watched "This Filthy World", Waters' one man show/talk, and it made me really want to hit this show tomorrow. Alas, I got to take the wife/kids to the beach. Have fun, you weirdos.

    Welcome to Baltimore, Harry!

    by jonah echo

So are you going to get a chance to visit the Senator, the movie house you helped save earlier this year? Im hoping to get down there myself this weekend and finally see The Bourne Ultimatum. Goodluck with the Waters' fest. I'd love to come, but friday night is already booked.

    Nice Park

    by baltimoron

The park in south Baltimore where it is being held is in a nice quiet area right on the water (in sight of the historic Hanover Street bridge). You should have a great time! If I didn't have plans tomorrow, I would be there!

    by kikuchiyoboy

Hope you're enjoying my hometown! It's cool to think that your just down the street. Even cooler that it's for a Waters triple feature. Those are fine films. Although I haven't seen Desperate Living yet. John Waters kicks unholy ass.

Too bad the diner in "Diner" is gone. It would have been cool to have a dinner theater thingy while watching a truly fantastic Levinson film.

Anyway's enjoy your time here. Drink some "Resurrection" beer and munch on some crabby crabs.

    Take it easy you two.

Archives tour and cool theaters in the area

    by the_bat

    Hey Harry,

Do you want a tour of the National Archives in College Park, MD. I could show you the presevation labs? If you did the museum downtown, you should see the real one where the holdings are.

    Cool Theaters to check out:
The Uptown, Downtown DC (Red Line Cleveland Park, orginal cinerama screen)

Arlington Cinema Drafthouse, Arlington VA (Take Orange line to Rosslyn then cab to theater)

The AFI Silver Theater, Silverpring MD (Red line Silver Spring)
The Senator, Baltimore MD(Family owned and run, you indirectly helped save it this year!)

    by swiss trev

Why do you find it necessary to rip in to other people that are having a good time? - maybe because your life is so shallow and eventless maybe?...hope so because if it's not then it means you're just a screwed up individual with some serious issues and probably need counselling or medication ...that’s if they can drag you out the basement that is. Lighten up, be happy for Harry, have something pertinent to say or else don't post...tit!

    by blanket-man

Obviously you all have never been to a state not named NY, CA, or FL. MD's got a zillion things to do, and not just Bawlmer and OC. And even so, that's two more fun towns than most states can claim. Anyway, welcome to the place of me birth, and the only state I've ever lived in, Harr! Stop by Westminster while you're in town; the Ravens could use a new right tackle!

You should go up to the top of Federal Hill. It's where Rick 'Wild Thing' Vaughn drove his motorcycle to get a nice view of good ol... Cleveland, Ohio.

Or you could go and search for that crazy ass spirally highway from DH4.

    by charlie & tex

...as we've been fans of Waters for many years. A nice selection of movies - ones made before he slid down the crapper in the late 80's - mid 90's. Desperate Living still contains some dialogue and scenes that will shock a modern audience and you can't have too much of that these days!

Simpsons "flat" but Bourne "kicks unholy ass"?

    by mst3kpimp

How shallow are you Harry? The Bourne movies are quite trivial and once consumed are instantly forgetable. Alot of pseudo-intellectual dialog and over indulgent shaky cam action. Even the fucking dialog scenes were shaky. The Simpsons a'int perfect but it had far more character than all 3 Bourne films combined.

Really great to meet you tonight Harry ;-)

    by allpowerfulwizardofoz

Truly a nice guy and the real deal. I am very happy for both him and his beautiful wife. It was a wonderful night in Baltimore. A nice cool breeze while we all kicked back and watched Hairspray. I had to roll after Hairspray because of the Horror Con also taking place in Baltimore tonight but I am really glad I made it out and had a chance to meet Harry face to face and chat a little bit.

    You're a good guy man. :-)

    I'll second that, Wiz

    by kentucky colonel

Indeed a pleasure to have some face time with the happy couple. The cool Baltimore Breeze came as quite a shock...wasn't really prepared for that, but hung in till 1:45 am. Harry & Patricia, you both are an absoulte delight and it was indeed cool to hang for a while and larf at all the bad taste on display. Love my "Goldfinger" poster.

and anyone who wants to have a go at Yoko will have to go through me first. She's a real gem, and they're fortunate to have found each other. Cool wedding rings (custom made) to boot.

    see y'all down the way!

But the neighborhood surrounding the park, which did offer a magnificent view of downtown Baltimore across the water, well, it makes the 'hoods on "The Wire" look absolutley PG in comparison. A mild PG. I was solicited every kind of dope you could imagine from the street corners WHILE MY CAR WAS IN MOTION! All I wanted was a beer. Not only did I see classic John Waters...I saw real life corner kids! Jimminy Christmas!!!

    I'll thrid that, Wiz

    by baltimoron

I didn't go up and chat with Harry and Tricia until after Polyester (Scratch & Sniff cards...awesome!). They were very friendly and it was cool to finally say hello in person after 7+ years of reading the site. The movies were awesome, although I had to leave near the 2nd half of Desperate Living. Seeing the movie projected out of a truck onto a screen with the backdrop being Baltimore City and the Hanover St. Bridge was an experience in itself. I loved it. I wish they would have movies there all of the time. As for Baltimore, I didn't think the neighborhood was all that bad, although I did live 5 minutes from there for 5 years of my life. Yeah, you have your curious pack of kids on bikes wondering what is going on, but I never was hassled. It was great seeing families packing up quickly as the nudity was on screen in "The Yum Yum Girls" trailer in between movies. Heh. Altogether, a great time, and again, it was great to meet Harry, oh, and you too Colonel.
