Jamie Bell and Liev Schreiber scream in DEFIANCE along with Daniel Craig!!!

Published at:  Aug 09, 2007 4:40:14 AM CDT

Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. Looks like we're in for a few big WW2 movies next year. We have VALKYRIE which Singer is doing with Tom Cruise and we also have this flick. Ed Zwick (GLORY, BLOOD DIAMOND) is knocking one out called DEFIANCE with Daniel Craig in the lead and the newly announced Liev Schreiber, Jamie Bell, Alexa Davalos and Tomas Arana will fill in the cast.

Craig, Schreiber and Bell will play three Jewish brothers living in Poland during the German occupation. They flee to the Belarussian Forest where they end up joining the Russian resistance. This group ends up building a village in this forest, saving over 1,000 Jews during the war. Tomas Arana (who you'll probably remember most from GLADIATOR) will play the leader of the resistance and Alexa Davalos will play a Polish refugee and love interest. Davalos was in CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK and you'll see her in a few months in Frank Darabont's adaptation of Stephen King's THE MIST.

As Phil Hartman once said, "I think World War 2 was my favorite war..." I'm a sucker for a good WW2 movie. You?

    What About The Great War

    by mad-maximus

I do like watching movies depicting WWII but what about the first World War? I bet there are a lot of untold stories during that time.

    First World War...

    by indyit

Is underrated. Not very often you see movies on it...ahh well, I just hope these next two movies bring enough 'new' to be interesting. It's slowly beginning to be like with the videogames WWII FPSes are being completly done to death and everyone's tired of em...I hope WWII movies do not face the same fate. I dont think they can, but yeah.

    Thought this was a remake

    by guy gaduois

of the Jan Michael Vincent (who?) movie, 'Defiance', about a merchant marine who beats the hell out of a gang leader in New York. That was a bad movie. This WWII theme seems a much better idea than a remake of the 'other' "Defiance". Color me relieved. Whew!

    by picardsucks

just ask 3-9 million murdered Chinese and the men at the bottom of Pearl Harbor. What too many Japanese investors to make a movie showing just how Nazi-like they were bayonetting babies in Nangking??

But the Germans weren't bad it was the "Nazis'

    by yeti

Much more politically correct to go after a cult/political party than an entire race...till you start getting into the murky business of who the whole world knew what was starting to go down and basically shrugged.
