Hell yeah! Michel Gondry's BE KIND REWIND looks great!!!
Ahoy, squirts! Quint here. I've been talking about how great this script is for a year now. Now we finally get the trailer and it looks just as great as the script was. I can't wait to see this one! December 21st (limited) can not get here soon enough.

HAd to get that in
-
This looks friggin' ridiculous!! But yet, I cannot look away.....
-
Also, does it feel AWESOME?
-
Gondry's racking up quite the filmography.
-
do it!
-
This has potential to be great.
-
As the trailer started playing...I was thinking...THIS LOOKS SO FRIGGIN RETARDED!
But then at the end of it when I saw Gondry's name as director...suddenly it seemed better!
I guess my past memory of his work changed my perspective.
That is strange no?
Actually I think I'd prefer if this were set in France with French actors or unknowns. Jack Black kinda threw me.
Anyway...we shall see. :-) -
SOooooooooOO stoked!
-
Eat your heart out Ray Parker Jr.
-
..but still funny! :D
-
Had to smile at the goofy Ghostbusters get-ups and robot karate.
-
Whimsy has its time and place, Gondry relies on it far too often. This is true of all directors who came to prominence with music videos. Not bad filmmaking by any means, but lacks substance and scope. Eternal Sunshine got its substance from the screenplay and from the actors. Science of Sleep lacked in both. Terrific visual artist, and lets leave it at that.
-
That line was hilarious. I'm not a fan of either of these actors but this movie may change my mind
-
what, is Mos going the way of Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson? or, i guess what would be a bit more fitting, is Chris "Ludacris" Bridges...although Mos is a much, much, much more talented actor and rapper than Luda, but still...oh, and if anyone is confused by this, not in the actual trailer but on the right hand side of the yahoo movie page where it lists cast, it says Dante "Mos Def" Smith...good stuff.
-
So why do all the early reviews say this sucks?
-
By that I mean buying the DVD cuz I don't think its the kinda thing I need to see on the bigscreen for 26 bucks. But for the same coin I will happily buy it and watch it
-
Woot!
-
I might see this.
-
this trailer just put a huge smile on my face.
love the 2001 remake! -
Very inventive.
-
...and then by the end I was laughing my ass off. It's a good reminder of why Jack Black is funny.
-
...wouldn't Jack Black's condition erase all the new tapes that they make?
-
I think it maybe has to do with that jacket he's wearing?? Not sure.
-
Good to see an original flick make it's way to the big screen these days...
-
Nuff said!!
-
i didn´t like Gondry´s last film, that this one looksgood.
-
He always plays the same character. Nevertheless, when used right, it works. I have confidence in Michel Gondry to do something special, creative and funny here. I will see this no doubt.
-
that's what I thought during all the development hype. I couldn't understand how it would work. But now I do, and I'm really Really looking forward to this.
-
The man is awesome.
-
I can't wait.
-
David Fincher relies far too much on on whimsy.
-
Dont you guys remember a review for the flick (an early test screening)? Jack Black urinates whatever was making him magnetized.
-
Haven't been to the video store in ages. I bet there are still old fogeys that rent 'em though.
-
Mike_D, the review you are mentioning is something i wrote. i'm apologizing because it was a terrible TERRIBLE review. completely unintelligible.
HOWEVER, what i said in the review was all correct. The movie really isn't good, and unless they have seriously changed things from when i saw it (which was quite a long time ago) it is one of the worst movies i've seen in a really long time.
the trailer does look good. i thought the idea was awesome, but the execution is very poor. the best parts of the movie are when they do their remakes, but those take a back seat to some amazingly stupid side plots. the movie is very amateur-ish, and i am not talking about the remakes. the portions that have nothing to do with the remakes are incredibly awkward. it was actually sort of unbearable to sit through.
the remakes are very inventive; just the way they do them are so creative and cool. they were impressive. but that's it. Ghostbusters is the one they show the most of, but its the first and the rest are pretty much shown in montages or just quickly here or there.
Gondry is usually style over substance, but this time he is little of either. -
Hope Gondry's paired himself to a good script this time, unlike with Science of Sleep...
-
I know you saw an unfinished cut, but did they throw the GB theme song in there for good measure? :)
-
my memories pretty weak, but i'm pretty positive the ghostbusters track is there. hopefully it stays. the Ghostbusters stuff was the best; easily the funniest moments from the film.
-
From the trailer it looks pretty promising, Mos Def has surprised me as a very likable actor and this time he's the straight man so its not too much on him, and im one of those that like Jack Black regardless how one note he can be sometimes. He's fun. But regardless the actors, Michel Gondry is great. There's no more to it than that and this looks just as good as anything else he's done..although its probably very hard to surpass ESOTSM. And i dont think this will, but they're incomparable anyway.

You just issued a clear invitation to the dance. If you don't like the site, shut up and get the fuck out.
-
and something of a departure to more mainstream fare for Gondry. Looking forward to it.
-
one of the principal joys of this site is being able to argue vehemently with people who do not share your taste. Relax. It is a pleasure to anonomously slate total strangers in regards to their parentage, sexual preferance, IQ, living arrangements, etc over something as inconsequential as A FUCKING MOVIE. Don't be so uptight. Or if you are going to be that uptight post somewhere else.
-
I can't remember if they shot it and couldn't use it or wanted to do it couldn't get permission and didn't get to shoot it after all, but I woulda loved to see it and personally would have preferred it to Ghostbusters. Ah well.
-
I'll have to try at home.Never understood why people complain about this site, yet still post here.
-
From what I'd heard before it was all predicated on the idea that their little old lady customer was half blind and couldn't really tell what was going on. It sounded like she was their only customer or something and the film was much smaller (not that this makes it look 'big'). Didn't see that in the trailer. What gives?
-
I'm sure the film will address the fact that there are plenty of ways for customers to see these movies if they wanted to (cable, Netflix, Internet, libraries, other stores, etc). It looks like the film takes place in a poor neighborhood, so Gondry may be going for some social commentary to back up the unique idea. Looking forward to this one.
-
It's because DVD is just an overhyped expensive fad that Sony is trying to push on us and makes the PS2 more expensive than it should have been when we already have more than enough space on CD-Roms. Developers will just stuff them with FMV to make it look like they're filling up a DVD which may work fine as a movie format but not for games. It is not needed for its generation.
-
the 2001 shot is a great and amazing shot, like some of Gondry's music videos, but the remakes can't save this poorly conceived film.
Dasher, no that is not expressed, but you really won't care once you see the movie anyway. It plays over the top with an attempt at whimsy.
And the message that many of you are commenting on is completely lost in the film. That is obviously what Gondry is trying to get at, but he loses it and fails miserably. BUT, I hope a good editor comes in and makes it all better because I would still like to see this concept work.
-
there was a skit on the old amanda bynes show on nicke-fucking-lodeon where they made fun of blockbuster called blockblister. "it's better. {in italian accent} MUCH BETTER!" where they showed amanda, drake bell and some retard "re-making" movies on video. god, how lame can you get? jack black is slowing turning into the next john belushi.
-
It's true. He's never had an original idea. That Daft Punk video with the dancing in the mouth gag? Bynes did that years ago. Eternal Sunshine? Bynes again. Go back and watch her Nickelodeon show. Probably the most groundbreaking program since Roots. Or the Suite Life of Zach and Cody.
-
Thanks. That made my day.
-
but as a writer/director Gondry is turning out to be more sentimental and sacharine than Spielberg at his lowest. I guess he's actually a pretty sensitive guy when he's not busy feeling chicks up and macking on everything with a heartbeat at after hours clubs.
-
i thought the entire premise of this was predicated on the funny business of the only customer being the little old lady. which is actually funny and a plot, not 'all our tapes demagnetized because jack black is magical.' plus, i might heart the D, but jack black in general release is just annoying at this point. it would have been funnier if mos def had been paired with some manic unknown actor given a chance to shine.
-
Jack Black's glasses. And his sweatshirt too.
-
who the hell even watches a show called "the amanda bynes show"?! probably only you two, because sure as shit I bet Jack Black and the others never even heard of it either.
-
I can't speak for the jig98, but I was being sarcastic. I don't really believe the tween star is the mastermind behind all of Gondry's best work. Really, I don't.
-
I've heard about this movie for awhile. That's cool you dug up this trailer. I'm excited to see the film.
-
I can't wait. Looks hysterical.
-
At the outset, I thought this would make an interesting project.
Having seen the trailer, it's now right up there with SUPERBAD on my 'must fucking see' list for the rest of the year. Hilarious trailer. -
My immortal soul left my body and started floating out of the theater in order to avoid watching another minute of it. I liked Sunshine tho.
-
And why does she get a black box? They're getting mighty loose with those things. As evidenced by the fact that MiraJeff has one.
-
The movie takes place in NYC.
-
That Blu-Ray and HD DVD are offically outselling VHS for the first time (!), so there are a lot of stone age style mother fuckers out there still buying up VHS tapes like hot cakes. I guess DVD players aren't cheap enough for them yet.

I was one of this film's biggest TB detractors, and...
by grantchastain
...even I must admit it looks better than the initial description. You've got to hand it to Gondry -- even when the premise is out-and-out ludicrious, he still manages to get something special once it hits the editing bay.
